What I Wore Lately Vol. 64

Well, here we are with another edition of What I Wore Lately! This is when I round up my daily outfits and share a little about where I wore them and how they came together.

SIZING NOTES: I’m 5’5″ with an hourglass shape. I usually take a 6/28 in pants/jeans, a small in tops, and size 8 shoe.

What I Wore Lately

Time just keeps flying by. It seems like a month ago that I took these pictures, but it was only two weeks ago that I was out of town with my mom. I brought this matching sweatsuit and wore it almost every day at some point — either in the mornings before getting dressed for the day or in the evenings when I was winding down.

These are so soft and cozy, love them! Both pieces are the black in size small, and they’re currently 40% off + extra 15% off with code MAJOR. (Pardon the dirty mirror.)

And I wore this familiar outfit on our last day there. I’ve definitely gotten my money’s worth out of this tee! This is my second season with it, and I wear it at least once a week. It’s true to size and currently on sale at Zappos.

I wore the same outfit to travel home that I wore traveling out there. And I’m so excited to inform you that this coated denim jacket is now available! I got mine from Evereve, and it sold out right away, but this week someone in my Facebook Group found it on the KUT from the Kloth website.

It has a cropped fit, and it fits rather snug, so I recommend sizing up if in between (or if you’re tall or long-waisted) although I stuck with my regular size small. It may look stiff, but it’s actually soft and stretchy and quite comfortable.

I wore this casual outfit on a Saturday to hang out with family who was visiting from out of town, and to go to the farm stand to get fall flowers and pumpkins. My favorite Mother Insiders are currently 25% off at Bloomies!

The next day was Sunday, and when it came time to get dressed for church, I was floundering a bit. I wanted to wear fall clothes, but it was promising to be a warm afternoon, so I reached for the peacock blue Vince cashmere tee from the #NSale and paired it with my grey Mother Hustlers. First I tried them with these taupe braided braided mules.

Something about the taupe shoes with the dark top and grey jeans seemed off, so I swapped them for my black suede mules. I also gave my sweater a front tuck.

That was probably fine, but the shoes seemed kind of heavy or something. I’m not sure what it was, but I wasn’t feeling it, so I tried the same outfit with my black Mother Insiders. They’re a little dressier than the grey jeans, and also an inch or two shorter.

I remember thinking I didn’t like the contrast of the black shoes and black shoes and exposed skin, although looking at this picture, I think it’s fine — especially since the shirt is short-sleeved.

Anyway, I switched into the washed black Frame straight crop jeans, to see if I liked a softer black denim better. (FYI, these jeans are also 25% off at Bloomies right now.)

I decided it was something about the black suede Western mules that I didn’t like, so I tried my black suede R Minkoff loafer mules that are several years old. I always enjoy wearing them in the fall, but I didn’t like that look either, so I went back to the taupe mules.

Honestly, all of those outfits look fine to me in these pictures. I’m not sure what my hangup was, lol. Over-thinker much???

But I decided I wanted something lighter on top, so I ditched the peacock blue sweater and changed into this leopard tee and my Marrakech Morrison jacket. I’ve worn these together with black jeans many times, so I knew that would work, but for some reason, I wasn’t feeling the shoes. Or maybe I just wanted to wear flats… I can’t remember why, but I went back to the black suede loafer mules.

But the black suede looked too heavy for the warm September day, so I ditched those for these black leather loafer mules with the horse-bit hardware.

In retrospect, I think the taupe suede braided mules looked best of all three options. Or if I’d wanted flats, I could have worn my taupe suede ruched flats, but for better or for worse, this is the outfit I ended up wearing.

And yes, I am aware that I sound certifiable. I can’t believe I put all this crazy out there for public consumption… lol! Please tell me someone else does this when getting dressed in the morning.

The change of seasons is always the worst. Once I figure out the denim and shoe pairings that I like, I will repeat them over and over.

The next day, I had a dentist appointment. It was unseasonably warm outside, but I knew I’d be chilly in the office, so I wore this cozy wrap over a basic white tee and jeans. I threw on my favorite summer sandals, figuring it might be the last time I wear them this season.

The following day, I met up with some of the ladies at church to put together care packages for the college students in our congregation. It was overcast and threatening to rain, but still sort of warm. I first put on this outfit, and I like it.

Z Supply thermal top (S) // Good American jeans (28) // UGG clogs (9) // earrings // bracelet // cat print tote

But once I had it on and took this picture, I realized it was probably a little much for the casual gathering, so I quickly changed into this a t-shirt and sneakers. I like how the statement earrings level up this casual look, but it was still practical for the activity and the weather.

I had an early morning workout appointment the next day, and this is what I wore for most of the day. Of course, I took off the pullover while I was working out.

Sweaty Betty pullover (S; more sizes & colors at Nordstrom) // Athleta tank (S) // Vuori leggings (M) // On Cloud sneakers (8) // Lagos earrings

And I must have gone somewhere later on that required real clothes, because I changed into this casual outfit somewhere along the way.

I had a photo shoot last Friday, and I wore this athleisure look for the rest of the day. Yes, it was hot enough for sandals!

I wore this outfit to run errands on Saturday, and I was planning to keep it on and wear it to the marching band cavalcade that night, where I worked at concessions.

Chaser camo top (S) // AGOLDE straight ankle jeans (28; more sizes at Evereve & Shopbop) // P448 sneakers (39) // Lagos earrings // Lagos bracelets

But my 15-y/o daughter informed me that I must wear red to support the school, or I would look like I didn’t belong. She had a point, I suppose. The only red top I own is what I affectionally call my “band mom tee” so even though there was going to be no football team on the band field that night, I put it on and wore it anyway.

I also purchased a school sweatshirt when I got to the event, but it was so warm, I didn’t need it until after my shift was over. I was really glad I had it when the sun went down, though, as I sat on those cold metal bleachers watching the 2nd half of the show.

graphic tee (old) // AGOLDE straight ankle jeans (28; more sizes at Evereve & Shopbop) // P448 sneakers (39) // Lagos earrings // Lagos bracelets // similar HOBO bags

And that brings us to last Sunday! I threw on this orange sweater with my grey Mother Hustlers and the taupe braided mules and went to church before I could overthink it, lol!

Treasure & Bond sweater (S) // Mother Hustlers (28) // Dolce Vita mules (7.5) // Amazon earrings

I changed after lunch to hang out at home and visit with a friend.

Free People tee (S) // Mother Insiders (28) // Marc Fisher slides (8) // Amazon earrings

And this is what I wore on Monday to work from home most of the day.

Treasure & Bond tee (S) // Evereve utility pants (28) // Marc Fisher slides (8)

And that’s a wrap! Yesterday was cool and rainy, and I never changed out of my workout clothes. I didn’t think to snap a picture, but I think it’s all sold out anyway.

I’ll be back tomorrow with this year’s My Favorite Things post! I usually post that closer to the holidays, but we decided to use it this year to launch my Holiday Gift Guides.

Amy and I’ve been hard at work behind the scenes, getting those prepped and ready to go. We’ll be rolling out about three a week until I get through all of the topics I’m planning. If you have any special requests, please let me know!

  1. I was laughing at your Sunday struggle because I did the same thing. I had a bed full of clothes that all had to be hung up when I got back. UGHH!

  2. I really enjoy your try-ons and thought processes. I often “don’t feel” an outfit I had planned on wearing, and my husband is honest when I ask him when I am unsure. For some reason, this usually happens on a Sunday with what outfit I had planned to wear to church. And I then often don’t have time to straighten my bedroom back up, so the clothes and shoes are waiting to be put away when I get home. So you are not alone. On another note, the Kut jacket is super cool, but I have way too many jackets and told myself not to buy anymore! Hopefully, others will grab this one.

  3. Hi Jo-Lynne, I just started following you – from Cyndi’s profile 🙂 I love your posts and they brighten my day. I have so much stuff and am thinking of investing in a closet cleanse. As I am researching, I am finding a lot of recommendations to do a color analysis to find out what colours best you. Have you done this and/or how do you figure out what colours work best on you? Thanks and God bless, Liz.

    1. Hi Liz, I did one of those when it first became a thing in the 80s. 🙂 I’m a winter, easy! They didn’t even need to drape me, but they did it to show me the difference. Nowadays, I think it’s more common to think in terms of warm and cool tones, at least that is how it is taught in the Adore Your Wardrobe course, which I took a few years back and found very helpful. You might want to look into it: https://bit.ly/AYW2020

  4. I’m so happy you shared your Sunday-getting-dressed-for-church “crazy”. I don’t think it’s crazy at all. In fact, it’s totally normal at my house, especially in the spring and fall when it’s so hard to dress between seasons!!

  5. I had to laugh on the 2nd Sunday how you said you went to church before you could change your mind. I soooooo get the 1st Sunday dilemma. This transition season has been hard around where I live too because I want to dress Fall but we are having a warm, sunny Fall……well except for coming up. Now we are going to be cooler and rainy. I think Sunday, getting ready for church is the hardest too. I feel under dressed for some reason lately, but over dressed in a dress lately. Anyway, I LOVE how you keep it real and that you tell us you wear things over and over, even in the same week etc. I’m really going to struggle trying to get the boots/shoes to go with the newer jeans, come cold weather. I still don’t have it down. Today I’m doing Wit & Wisdom crop straight jeans….light wash, black Nordstrom Halogen sweater and black Evereve mules from last year. I sure hope it doesn’t pour down rain or get to hot with the sun peaking out right now. UGH. LOL Have a great day and please update us on Caroline.

  6. PS LOVE the vouri jogger picture post. Looks so great. LOVE that color you bought. Are the vouri joggers shorter length than the Zella. I only have the Zella ones you posted last year. I love this new color in your post today. Do you have small on? I’m 5’3″ around 118lbs. Wonder size to order. Thanks.

  7. This post really made me smile. I relate to the struggle. And I appreciated the comment that once you figure out which shoes/pants combo works, you use it all season. That’s really true. It just takes some work on the front end.

  8. Thanks so much for these posts! If it weren’t for your openness I would still think that fashion bloggers get it right the first time lol. It makes you much more relatable, and that’s a big reason why I follow you. Blessings xo

  9. Hi Jo-Lynne, thanks for sharing all these. I have to say I’m having a tough time getting used to any looks with dark crop flares and dark loafers or mules (resulting in a gap). I guess years ago we called them “high waters.” The look I preferred was the crops with the nude sandals. Otherwise I think I would like sock booties with slim shaft & no gap.🤷‍♀️

    1. Yes, it is a stark contrast with the dark and dark and a gap. I think that is what was getting to me – especially when the shoes have a higher shaft. I like a black sandal with black pants, or a black pump. But the mules, I dunno…

  10. I had to laugh at your many changings for church. I do that too wherever I go, I can’t let it go. So I keep changing until I feel it right or run out of time. haha
You asked about questions for holidays. I have 2 grandkids, early teenage boy and girl , who have everything and they are impossible to buy for. I have no idea whatsoever, and their overindulgent parents are no help. I’m sure gift cards are the way to go, but just asking.

    1. Yes, usually it is only b/c I run out of time that I end up wearing what I end up wearing. And I’m laughing at the overindulgent parents are no help – probably what my mom says about us! It really is hard to shop for gifts at this age b/c kids these days have so much, and they want exactly what they want. Honestly, my daughter is asking for gift cards so she can go shopping.

  11. I love your try on hauls and the explanations of where you wore them and yes even the many changes you might have made along the way! Some mornings it’s almost impossible to figure out what to wear glad I’m not alone lol!

  12. I appreciate the tip on the Free People Clare camo tee at Zappos! Just purchased. It will be my third one: when you find a good thing, buy all the colors/patterns! They are weekly staples in my summer rotation as well — thank you!

  13. You know it’s going to be a great Sunday when you wear your Mother Hustlers to church, lol. I could not help but laugh, sorry!

  14. I always select what I’m wearing each day, no later than the night prior. When I/we have appointments during the upcoming week, I put my complete outfits together the weekend before. I will think I want to wear a certain outfit, but when I try it on something just doesn’t work for whatever reason, so I will make adjustments until I’m happy, even if it means changing the whole outfit. It’s also still warm enough here to wear sandals.
