What I Wore Lately Vol. 71

Happy hump day on this first full week of the New Year! It’s Wednesday, so that means time for What I Wore Lately. This is a roundup of my daily outfits from the past few weeks and a little about where I wore them and how they came together.

SIZING NOTES: I’m 5’5″ and I usually take a 6/28 in pants/jeans, a small in tops, and size 8 shoe. Gifted items are indicated by c/o; everything else I purchased myself.

These looks span the past two weeks, with a lot of holiday festivities, and then I was a bit of a sloth during the week between Christmas and New Year’s, so it’s quite a menagerie of outfits. As I like to say, this is real life I’m living here. So anyway, here it is. The good, the bad, and the ugly…

What I Wore Lately

This is what I wore the Thursday before Christmas, when I took the girls to The Nutcracker in Philly. It was an afternoon performance, so I didn’t get quite as dressed up as I might have for the evening.

I also wore my faux fur jacket on top, which helped amp up the look. I really wish I had a picture of that! We were in a rush to get out of the house on time, and I didn’t even get one of all three of us, unfortunately.

The next day was Christmas Eve, of course, and we went out to dinner for C’s birthday. I wore this sweater dress outfit that you’ve seen before.

LOFT sweater dress (S) // Sam Edelman boots (8.5) // Wolford tights (MD) // Yurman hoops and multi-chain bracelet

Here’s a picture from when I wore it to the Christmas Tea at church. I think I like it better with the opaque tights, how about you?

Christmas was a lazy day at home, and I wore this Merry Christmas tee from last year with my Barefoot Dreams cardigan, black jeans, and slippers. I ended up taking the sweater off because I was working in the kitchen for so many hours. Plus, we were having rather mild weather.

I hosted family the day after Christmas, so I got myself more dressed up. I even put on heels because, why not? I hardly ever have a chance to wear them, and they look more festive. The necklace and earrings were my Christmas gifts from Paul, so you will be seeing a lot of them!

The next day was lazy, here at home with some of Paul’s family who stayed with us for a few days.

I took R to the mall last Tuesday, and I wore this monochromatic outfit. I couldn’t decide which boots to wear, so I tried both the Blondo Daggers and Vince Henderson boots.

Blondo Dagger (8.5) // Vince Henderson (8)

They both look fine from the side, but front-on, I think I prefer the wider shaft of the Blondos with the skinny jeans.

Here’s what I ended up wearing. I added the vest for warmth and style. It wasn’t super cold outside, so I was warm enough walking from the car to the mall without a coat.

That brings us to last Wednesday, which I spent mostly at home. I just threw on this cozy sweatshirt and jeans with sneakers after my morning walk/run. I’ve been trying to get outside for 40-45 minutes every day.

And Thursday was yet another day at home.

We stayed home for New Year’s Eve, and I wore this comfy sweatsuit.

Lou & Grey softblend sweatshirt & sweatpants (S) // Veja Esplar (39) // Yurman earrings

I did get outside for a walk/run earlier in the day, and I took a picture of that look. This is one of my go-to winter running outfits. It wasn’t super cold, so I didn’t wear gloves or a headband, but I do when it dips below 40 degrees.

My exact jacket is discontinued, but this year’s version is similar — unfortunately, not as neutral. I got mine last year at my trainer’s recommendation, and she promises it should last me 10 years. It has a lot of features that make it functional for cold weather running and biking. If you’re just walking, I love my Vuori sherpa jacket. I also have and love this Athleta jacket, but I can’t wear it when it’s super cold out.

And New Year’s Day was yet. another. day. at home. I couldn’t remember the last time I’d washed my hair, so instead of just showering off after my morning walk/run, I did the whole get ready routine even though I had nowhere to go. I actually had some try-ons I wanted to do, though, so that worked out.

These Mother Dazzlers came in a while back, and I finally got around to trying them. After wearing them around the house for a few hours, I’m still undecided.

I spent a large part of Sunday taking pictures of outfits with the camel turtleneck for yesterday’s post, and I ended up wearing this for the remainder of the day.

Treasure & Bond hoodie (S) // AGOLDE Toni in Precipice (28) // P448 sneakers (39) // Yurman earrings

And Tuesday was… say it with me now… another. day. at home. In an attempt to wear something other than P448 sneakers, I wore my Vejas. Haha! I was never much into sneakers, but lately, it’s all I want to wear.

I noticed this pairing with the pine green sweater hoodie when I was going through last year’s outfits, and it reminded me how much I like this outfit. It really is handy to have all my outfits saved for posterity!

I’ve had those jeans since last spring, and I don’t wear them as much as I thought I would when I bought them. They’re kind of tough looking, with the faded black wash and ragged hemline, and I just don’t find myself reaching for them very often. They’re very comfortable, though, and I love the dimensions. I’m going to try to incorporate them into my outfit rotation more often this winter.

And this was yesterday. I had a workout in the morning, and I just didn’t get around to changing. I did throw some makeup on, at least.

Athleta tee (S) // Athleta wrap (S) // Vuori leggings (M) // On Cloud sneakers (8.5)

Okay, that should do it for this week! I don’t have a lot of reason to leave the house right now, but I’m still trying to get dressed and fix my face every day. It’s amazing what that does for one’s mental health, and my family is around, so they probably appreciate it.

  1. There are temporary fixes OTC ( if you still have the crown). I’ve used Dentek before and my temporary crown stayed on for days. I found it at Walgreens. Good luck!

  2. Your daily outfits look like mine, comfy and casual. As for the red dress outfit, I like the opaque tights better! Last night we went out to dinner and I wore my black knee high boots for the first time in 2 years! So happy to get them out and wear, really dressed up an outfit and kept my legs warm!! Good luck with your dental issue. It’s the worse but needs taken care of!

  3. Your dentist should have openings for emergency’s saved for each day but usually you have to call early to get one left. I hope they get you in. Dental sensitivity/pain is not fun. Sorry. Your casual outfits are me for awhile now. I hope to be able to get out more coming up, as I really want to wear other clothes. I have a hard time wanting to put jeans on if I’m just going to be home all day. As for the Red sweater dress, I like the opaque tights better too.

  4. Me again with a similar dental issue. They haven’t told me my filling is temporary but did say this fix won’t last forever. Anyways….I am not a good dental patient. Have you tried laughing gas when you get work done? It’s a must for me and puts me in a nice floaty space so it’s tolerable. Good luck

  5. I love that sweater dress and I am so disappointed that the Loft is out in that color Looks nice both ways. I am a big fan of Wolford, but I like opaque tights with sweater dresses. Hope that you had a great Christmas!

        1. They don’t bother me, and I think they’re really pretty. I wore this blouse to dinner and it was fine, even when reaching across the table for shared platters. I will say this, though. You will sometimes need another person to retie or tighten them. My daughters had to tighten them for me once when we were out together because they got loose after I put my coat on and off a few times. Not a deal breaker, though.

  6. I’ve resorted to the fact at age 53 soon to be 54 I want comfort! Whether jeans or leggings, sneakers or boots! I’ll dress to the occasion( making it cute) but I’m not willing to sacrifice comfort ! I’m loving the fact that sneakers ( the more lifestyle ones) are still in style! Makes running errands much more fun!

  7. Your in-depth analysis of the Blondo Dagger vs. the Vince Henderson boots had me laughing, until I realized that I do the exact same thing. All the time!

  8. Yuck for dental issues! I had a few traumatic experiences at the dentist as a child, and it’s still with me to this day at almost 40. 😕 Thankfully my dentist is an Angel and has no problem prescribing me a pre-med. I do hope you are able to get in quickly and get it taken care of! I have that Barefoot Dreams cardigan in a lovely silver/gray/pewter color and I love it! Your days sound much like mine, staying at home. Honestly, I really like those days. But now that my children are back in school, I guess that will mean getting out more. There’s always soccer, gymnastics, and band. Happy New Year and thank you for all you do! 😊

  9. I agree that the opaque tights flatter the dress the most. Where you find yourself gravitating towards wearing sneakers, 6 out of 7 days I’m wearing a pair of my Birkenstock’s. I am very impressed with you trying to get outside and move every day! Good luck with your tooth and the upcoming root canal. 🙏🙏

  10. I babysit for our new grandson 4 days a week, so I live in leggings, workout outfit! I at least take him for a walk every day, I also get yoga in during one of his naps. I haven’t worn much else in awhile!

    1. Thank you. That works with a temp crown but this was a temp filling. It was a weird shape, and I couldn’t get it back in right. 😳 I get the temp crown tomorrow… hoping it stays put. 🤞🏻

  11. I just bought 2 pairs of the mother dazzlers in different washes. In case anyone else is thinking of ordering these, I found the sizing to be very inconsistent. The Now or Never wash in my regular size fitted like a glove. The On the Edge wash I had to size down 2 sizes to get a good fit.
Thank you for all you do, your blog is fantastic!
