What I Wore On Vacation

Last week, we spent a week with extended family in a resort community in Fenwick Island, Delaware. We usually go to the Jersey Shore, but we decided to change it up this year, and it was really nice for a change.

The beach was a short drive, rather than a few blocks walk, but there were several swimming pools in the community within walking distance of our rental home, as well as lots of amenities like tennis and pickleball and the like. Of course, I took pictures of everything I wore!

There wasn’t a full length mirror in the house, but I had Paul take photos, so today I’m sharing what I wore on vacation last week! Spoiler alert: I did NOT need everything I packed. (I’m sure you’re shocked, haha!)

What I Wore On Summer Vacation

SIZING NOTES: I’m 5’5″ and I usually wear a small or medium in tops and dresses, a 29 or 30 in jeans and pants, and a size 8 shoe. Gifted items are indicated by c/o; everything else I purchased myself.

I wore this casual look to travel in, and I kept it on for the rest of the evening. For anyone wondering, it’s about a 3-hour car ride from where we live in the Philadelphia suburbs.

I totally forgot to bring a sweatshirt or wrap with me on this trip! I never travel without my Athleta Pranayama Wrap, so I was at a total loss as to what to wear when I was chilly inside the house in the mornings. I ended up putting on this navy stripe top, but it didn’t look great with the black Spanx AirEssentials crop pants that I brought for that purpose, so I put it on with my Frank & Eileen gaucho jeans. They’re super soft and stretchy, and almost as comfortable as the knit pants.

We went to the beach at Fenwick Island State Park the first day we were there, but this picture was taken in front of our rental property. My beach wrap is from Anthropologie two years ago, so I linked a similar option.

That night, we all went out to dinner. (It was Harpoon Hannah’s, for anyone who might be traveling or living in that area. It was very good! The coconut muffins are to.die.for.) I wore my white jeans and taupe sweater.

The next morning, Paul and I went for a brisk walk around the community, and I wore my favorite summer workout gear.

We spent the better part of that day at one of the community swimming pools. I forgot my sunhat, so I borrowed this one from my daughter, for the purposes of making a cute picture. And I wish this coverup were a bit longer, but what can you do?

After we cleaned up from the pool, a group of us went down to have a drink at the restaurant on the bay before dinner. The views are so pretty there late in the day.

It’s also very windy!

The next morning, I had Paul take this picture, this was my “office” most mornings.

We went to the pool again that day, and yes, I wore yet another swimsuit & coverup. Why not?

And that night, we drove over to Fager’s Island for dinner, where you can watch the sunset from the deck of the restaurant, and I wore my trusty Tommy Bahama linen sheath!

After dinner, we walked outside to get a better view of the sunset. It was stunning, far more lovely than an iPhone can capture, but of course we had to try.

On our last day there, I did actually re-wear one of my swimsuit/cover-up combos, so I didn’t take another picture. And I wore this causal outfit to hang out at the house for dinner that night, and again the next morning to drive home.

And that about covers it! I clearly did not need as many clothes as I brought, but I was glad I had all of the options, not knowing exactly what our plans were going to be. I actually was wishing I’d brought one more dressy-casual top to wear with my denim skirt, rather than the black sheath. Anyway! Clearly, it all worked out just fine.

I hope this post gives you some vacation packing inspo, if you have any trips coming up, or just some everyday outfit ideas for the rest of the season.

  1. We’ve been to Delaware to shop the outlets many years ago when the kids were little and to a beach just can’t remember which one! 🤷‍♀️! We would normally go to Ocean City Maryland with family who live in Maryland. Looks like your rental home was beautiful! It’s hard to believe that big suitcase didn’t have one sweatshirt or sun hat 😂 but as you said you made it all work!

  2. I’m a long time reader and my first time commenting. Your blog helps keep my classic modern style as I get older! Hope you had fun in my ‘hood! Fager’s Island is my favorite restaurant! You forgot to mention that they play the William Tell overture at sunset! Thanks for all you do!

  3. Would you share the name of the resort? It looks stunning. We vacation in the area and would like to check it out as an option. The bayside sunsets are always stunning in OC. So many great restaurants in the area too. We love Hooked and Liquid Assets.

  4. Looks like you had a lovely vacation. We used to live in Maryland and have been to Harpoon Hannah’s and Fagers Island. Thanks for sharing!

  5. Enjoy the day in Stone Harbor! Hope it’s not TOO crazy crowded with the holiday crowd! I understand your comments about “overpacking” because you’re not sure of your plans and what you may need! Especially when you are with a family group. We vacation with extended family (23 of us this year) in Myrtle Beach and I love having options when I’m not sure what we will be doing! I will probably wear more dresses this year than before, since I have many! Our condo always seems to be cold and I would be miserable without my cozy Barefoot Dreams cardigan! Thanks for sharing your outfits.

  6. Beautiful pictures! The coconut muffins at Harpoon Hannah’s are my favorite part of dinner! Haha. Love Fagers Island too! We have stayed in the Lighthouse at Fagers Island many times. Highly recommend it if you and Paul want a get away. Does not disappoint!

  7. Looks like you stayed at Bayside, which is very nice. My sister has a townhouse right across from there behind the royal farm store. I would have gone nuts if I just randomly saw you at Harpoon Hannah’s or Fagers. Two spots we hit all the time.
