What I Wore This Week + Mini Try On Sesh
This has been a slow week for try ons, but I did try to capture what I wore each day. They didn’t all make it to Instagram, for various reasons, but y’all seem to like it when I share them here.
Of course, the usual disclaimers still apply: My day to day is pretty repetitive and casual. Errands, working from home, running the kids around, church on Sunday, occasional date night. You know the drill.
Remember, it’s still Double Points time at Nordstrom — that’s up to 6 points per dollar. This is a great time to splurge on those pieces that don’t go on sale — like the iconic Tory Burch Miller sandals or a classic denim jacket. I also like to use these events to stock up on bras, underwear, and makeup.
Also, Bloomingdale’s has 25% off when you shop with a Bloomingdale’s Credit Card (or 20% off no matter how you pay) on items labeled “PROMOTION ELIGIBLE.” Plus Loyallists get a $25 Reward Card (that’s 5,000 Power Points!) for every $125 spent on items labeled “LOYALLIST POWER POINTS”. This includes a lot of their shoes and most of their denim. In fact a handful of their denim is marked a straight-up 30% off right now.
I recommend signing up for ShopRunner to get free shipping and free returns at Bloomies. You also get that with their Loyallist program, but ShopRunner’s shipping is faster.
And while we’re talking weekend sales, LOFT has 40% off storewide, Ann Taylor has 50% off this weekend, and Lord + Taylor has up to 40% off great gifts for mom with code MOM, plus buy more save more on women’s shoes — get 40% off when you buy 3+ pairs, 30% off 2 pairs, 25% off one pair. L+T is also ShopRunner eligible.
Okay, let’s get started!
This Week’s Outfits
SATURDAY // I wore this to run errands and such. This top is old, but the cargo pants are part of the Bloomies 20%/25% off sale (they also come in navy, olive, and stone.) I tried to find some similar for less options, but pickins are slim for black skinny cargo pants.
SUNDAY // Church and out to lunch. I’m not a fan of my hair pulled back, but some days I just don’t have the energy (or in this case, the time) to wash and style it. I usually regret it when I see pictures of myself. I don’t know when I’ll learn. It was a chilly, rainy day, and I had to be there early for Sunday School nursery, so I just went like this. I also carried my Brahmin, which looks great with these mules.
This cardigan is 40% off at LOFT with code YESMOM, this mixed jersey tank is 50% off at Ann Taylor with code MOTHERSDAY, and these crop skinnies are 20% off at Bloomingdale’s (25% off with Bloomies card.) Oh, and my shoes are 30% off at Nordstrom. I guess it’s all on sale!
This is the best layering tank I’ve found for wearing under cardigans. It has the dressy vibe of a silk cami, but with bra-friendly straps and a comfortable jersey knit back.
MONDAY // I have no recollection of what I wore or what I did. I just remember this was the day I was supposed to get my MRI results and they had to postpone my appointment because they didn’t have the report. I’m pretty sure I was a slacker and stayed in sweats all day.
TUESDAY // Errands, working from home, and my Facebook Live! I wasn’t sure I liked this top and pants together, but after receiving some feedback on Instagram, I think it works but would look better with a sportier shoe.
These pants are included in the Bloomingdale’s sale — save 20% ff (25% with a Bloomies card.) I love them more every time I wear them. They’ve gotten really soft (I washed and dried them) and they’re soooo comfortable.
WEDNESDAY // Errands, a doctor appointment, and working from home. It’s a fascinating life I lead, ha!
This cardigan is on super duper sale at Lord + Taylor. I styled it a while back in this post, and it’s finally been warm enough to wear it. It’s very lightweight and easy to throw on over a tank top with jeans or shorts. I love the dolman sleeves and relaxed styling. I’m wearing a small, for reference.
THURSDAY // A trip to the mall and then the nail salon… pretty much a perfect day! I even got a run in before all that.
FRIDAY // Working from home all day after a workout appointment in the morning. I didn’t wear this very long, actually. I was so cold, I changed into one of the cashmere sweaters I had in a pile to go to the dry cleaners. Of course, then the sun came out, and it warmed up so I changed into a t-shirt. #weirdestweatherever
Most of this is old. I found the sweater at Nordstrom Rack (you get Double Points there too!) but only other colors are left.
These jeans are at Rack too, but again, only one size is left. And this pair is pretty much the same, a slightly different wash, but they aren’t included in the Bloomies sale. Oooh, I found another similar pair on mega sale at Saks — but only 2 sizes are left.
These shoes, though. These are only $69 PLUS at least 25% off. If you buy more than one pair of shoes, you’ll save more. They’re actually quite comfortable. They’re a little stiff — but they don’t rub anywhere, and they’re very easy to walk in for mules. I think the pink croco is so fun, but they also come in black suede.
I actually took a picture in the t-shirt, I don’t really know why. But here ya go! Oh, yeah. And I also changed into my TB Minnie flats. They’re pretty much what I always wear around the house. Those or my Miller sandals.
Try On Haul: J.Crew, Caslon & Gibson X The Motherchic
I just have a few try ons this week, but they’re good!!! Descriptions are below the pix.
This is the perfectly polished but casual top you can throw on with shorts or jeans, wear it alone or layer it under a denim jacket. It’s a great breathable linen with a flattering boat neck and short cuffed sleeves.
The cut is boxy but relaxed and drapey, and it’s the perfect length. No front tuck needed! This is one of those tops I will likely justify having in more than one color.
It reminds me of a navy linen top I got at LOFT 3 or 4 years ago, and I still wear is a couple times a week during spring and summer. It’s the top I throw on anytime I want to be casual and comfortable but put together. I’ve been wanting to find something similar for a long time because I can never link to it, and I have finally found one that is just as good or better. For size reference, I have this top in a medium.
It’s not included in the J.Crew sale, but Nordstrom is still having Double Points!
Gibson x The Motherchic Sarasota Layered Jersey Knit Dress // Another keeper! My friend Lindsey at The Motherchic just launched a Gibson line at Nordstrom (so excited for her!) and I ordered a few things to try. I am totally loving this dress. It’s such a soft material, it seriously feels like pajamas.
While it’s body-con, it’s very forgiving due to the stripes and the layers of fabric. I tried a small (top pic) and a medium (bottom pix), and I like the fit of the medium best. I’d love to wear this to the Mother’s Day brunch with my church today, but it’s a little chilly.
Gibson x The Motherchic Oaks Ruffle Trim Date Top // This top is super cute, but probably not the best cut for my body type. If you’re smaller on top, I think you will love this. It’s true to size; I’m wearing the small, for reference.
Caslon Off Duty Waffle Cardigan // If you’ve been following along for a few years, I’m sure you know about my beloved Splendid draped thermal cardigan. I have it in two colors, and I’ve worn them almost to death. I still have and love them both, but they’re a little pricey. When I saw this Caslon cardigan, I was so excited because it looks very similar for a much better price.
(Although the black Splendid cardigan is currently on sale at Bloomingdale’s… just sayin’.)
Anyway, this Caslon cardigan is really good. It’s not quite as soft as the Splendid one, however, if you don’t have the Splendid one, you wouldn’t think the Caslon one is scratchy or rough. They’re just different. It also comes in black and white.
I like it enough to consider keeping it… except I have so many cardigans right now, including a pink one.
The reviews are odd. I actually would say it runs small, and I would suggest sizing up one from your normal Caslon size. I am wearing the small here, but the arms are really tight below the elbow, to the point where they’re hard to push up. So if I keep it, I’ll exchange for the medium.
Okay, so that’s a wrap! I’m off to get my run in before heading out to a Mother’s Day brunch with ladies at church. Unfortunately both my girls had sleepovers last night and are with friends today, so I’ll be going solo. Happy Mother’s Day to all!
