Summer Fashion Try-On Haul

Good morning, happy Friday! I’ve got a new try-on haul for you today, with summer styles from LOFT, Evereve, and Quince. Today, I’m trying barrel leg jeans, pleated linen shorts, a couple of summer dresses, and a few classic tops.

As usual, I will provide measurements and fabric content on each item when I can find it, and I’ll share whether I plan to keep it or not. Just remember, even when I decide not to keep something, it doesn’t mean it isn’t worth checking out. I just may not need it, or it may not work for my body type or lifestyle.

SIZING NOTES: I’m 5’5″ and I usually wear a small or medium in tops and dresses, a 29 in jeans and pants, and a size 8 shoe. Gifted items are indicated by c/o; everything else I purchased myself.

Summer Styles from Evereve

Evereve is pretty much my favorite store to shop right now. They curate modern styles for women of all ages that are good quality and on trend but not huge fads. I’m super excited that they just opened a store that is local to me! I haven’t gotten over there yet, but I’ll be sure to share when I do. Meanwhile…

Ever Vintage Barrel Leg Jeans

at Evereve (29) // LOFT cardigan (M) // Quince sweater (S) // Sam Edelman slides (8)

DETAILS:

  • Measurements: 12″ Front Rise, 26 3/4″ Inseam, 14″ Leg Opening
  • Material: 66% Cotton, 18% Lyocell, 10% Polyester, 5% Rayon, 1% Spandex Denim

Let’s kick it off with the trendiest piece I’m trying today — barrel leg jeans. I wasn’t sure about this look when I first started seeing them because some styles are very dramatic. But then I saw a few women my age wearing them in a classy way that was also modern and fun, and I was intrigued.

This pair from Evereve’s label caught my eye on the Evereve website, and I mainly ordered them because I liked how they looked with this vest, which I also ordered. (Somehow, I forgot to try them on together, but anyway!)

All that to say, I actually like these jeans a lot.

They aren’t as dramatic as some barrel leg styles, and I think they’re really fun for summer. The length is perfect for pairing with sandals and fashion sneakers, and the distressing gives them that casual, slightly edgy vibe that I love.

My main critique is that the quality of the denim/distressing isn’t up to my usual standards. For the price, I think they should look more like premium denim, and they don’t. But I can probably overlook it because everything else is on point, and I’ll mostly style them with casual looks.

VERDICT: Keeping these for now, but I’m looking for a few other styles to try before I rip the tags off and wear them.

Evereve Loulou Long Short

at Evereve (29) // FRAME Le Mid Rise V-Neck Tee (M) // Sam Edelman slides (8)

DETAILS:

  • Measurements: 11 1/2″ Front Rise, 5″ Inseam, 25″ Leg Opening
  • Material: 53% Linen, 44% Lyocell, 3% Spandex Weave

Tailored shorts like this are very much on trend right now, and I like these more than I thought I would! They’re another piece from Evereve’s own label, which I find to be hit or miss, but I like the quality and styling on these a lot.

They’re snug in the waist, but they have some good stretch to them, and I don’t know that I’d want to size up. This ecru color is both classic and current, and the 5″ inseam is right in my sweet spot range.

VERDICT: I’m going to try these with a few more tops, and then decide whether to keep or return. I think they’d be a good addition to my wardrobe.

Evereve Presley Stripe Tank

at Evereve (S) // Evereve Loulou Long Short (29) // Sam Edelman slides (8)

DETAILS:

  • Length from Shoulder to Hem: 21 34″
  • Material: 44% Viscose, 30% Nylon, 26% Cotton Knit

This stripe tank is yet another item from Evereve’s label, and it’s a nice quality, but I feel like the price is a bit high for what it is.

That said, I like it a lot, and I think I’d like it even better paired with black bottoms. I’m just not sure I like that super high neck. It kind of looks like it’s choking me, and it doesn’t do much for the chest area.

VERDICT: I’m not sure about this one; I’ll try it with black pants or shorts and then make a decision. I have these shorts on the way, and I also have these linen pants in my room, that might look nice with it.

Sierra Denim Vest

at Evereve (M) // Evereve Loulou Long Short (29) // Sam Edelman slides (8)

Sierra Denim Vest size M

DETAILS:

  • Length from Shoulder to Hem: 22″
  • Material: 93% Cotton, 6% Elasterell-P, 1% Spandex Denim

I shared this vest in last week’s Try-On Haul in the size small, and I liked it a lot, but I thought I needed the medium. Well, the medium is a little too big, and also rather low-cut.

The small was also low-cut, but it fit snugly enough that it worked. This one gapes when I lean forward, so yeah. Not sure where to go from here.

Sierra Denim Vest size S // MOTHER Weekender (29) // Paul Green Hadley (8)

Here’s the medium styled with similar jeans to the ones above, and this time I tried to dress them up a bit with a low heeled sandal.

I was standing very gingerly in these shoes to get these pictures, but don’t worry! I did not walk around in them with this injured ankle.

Sierra Denim Vest size M // MOTHER Hustler (29) // Sam Edelman heels (8)

VERDICT: I’m afraid I’ll probably just return both. I don’t want to wear a tank underneath; it ruins the look I’m going for here. I’ll keep trying others to see if I find something that works better for me.

Summer Styles from LOFT

SALE ALERT: LOFT has 40% off full price styles + extra 55% off sale styles this weekend.

Ribbed Linen V-Neck Cardigan

at LOFT (S) (similar) // Ever barrell jeans (29) // Sam Edelman slides (8)

DETAILS:

  • 20″ long
  • 100% linen
  • machine washable

I love the look of a v-neck cardigan worn as a pullover, and this one works really well with these jeans. I like the color combination of the ivory with light wash denim, and the shorter sweater is perfect for the 12″ rise on these barrel leg jeans.

BUT! I just realized this sweater is no longer available, so womp… womp… Sorry for the bait and switch. If you like this look, this one is similar, and I have this one in my room waiting for me to try on.

VERDICT: Not sure if I’ll keep this or not; at this point in the season, I don’t think I’d wear it much, and I hate keeping things I can’t link to. #occupationalhazards

Chevron Open Stitch Sweater Tank Dress

at LOFT (S) // Dolce Vita slides (7.5)

DETAILS:

  • Length: 48 1/2″ from top back neck to hem, measured from a size 8/M
  • Fabric: 65% Viscose, 35% Nylon

I really love this modern take on the chevron pattern, and this stretchy dress is fairly forgiving, considering the body-con styling. It’s really cute and easy to dress up or down.

VERDICT: Keeping!

Chambray Linen Pocket Shift Dress

at LOFT (8) // Sam Edelman slides (8)

DETAILS:

  • Length: 33 3/4″ from top back neck to hem, measured from a size 8/M
  • Fabric: 100% Linen
  • Machine washable

I love a sheath, and this one is a really pretty chambray-looking linen. It’s a little stiff, but I hope it will soften up with wear. I like it a lot, but the 8 is too big, so I ordered the 6 to compare.

Spring/Summer Styles from Quince

ABOUT THE BRAND: For those who are unfamiliar, Quince is a company that makes ethically-sourced wardrobe essentials at an accessible price point by using a factory-direct model. I’ve had a few of their pieces before, and I’ve always been pleased with the quality. They offer free standard shipping; and you have 365 days to make a free, easy exchange or return.

Lightweight Cotton Cashmere Link-Stitch Dolman Sweater

at Quince (S) // Quince ponte pants (M) // Paul Green sneakers (8)

DETAILS:

  • Fabric: 65% organic cotton, 32% ecovero viscose, 3% cashmere
  • Ribbed neck, cuffs and hem
  • Dolman sleeve

This sweater is a really nice, classic piece, but it’s a little more interesting than a typical pullover sweater due to the dolman sleeves. I really like the sleeve length, as well as the link-stitch pattern and relaxed fit.

Quince doesn’t provide length measurements, but I’m going to gander that it’s around 23″-24″ long. I feel like due to the relaxed fit and banded waist, it needs a front tuck. I photographed it both ways.

VERDICT: I really like this one, but the color is more yellowy than I had expected, so I might return and re-order in another color. I’m also wondering if I should have sized up for a little more drape. I often take a Medium in Quince sweaters and tops, so I think it’s worth trying one before making a final decision.

Cotton Modal Scoop Neck Tee

at Quince (S) // Quince ponte pants (M) // Sam Edelman slides (8)

DETAILS:

  • Fabric: 50% cotton/50% modal
  • Scoop neckline

I love this for a basic t-shirt. The scoop neck is flattering, and the fabric feels elevated yet wearable. It comes in lots of colors. Highly recommend!

VERDICT: Unfortunately, it’s too small. I will need to re-order in a medium.

Ultra-Stretch Ponte Straight Leg Pant in Black

at Quince (M) // Quince tee (S) // Paul Green sneakers (8)

DETAILS:

  • 28″ Inseam
  • Fabric: 67% rayon, 28% nylon, 5% spandex
  • 4-way stretch, wrinkle-resistant
  • Faux front and back pockets
  • Pull-on style with flat elasticized waistband and belt loops

I’m really impressed with these pants! They are a great classic style, with a nice fit and feel. You can select your inseam length from 26″, 28″, 30″, or 32″… love that!

These are intended to be full-length pants, but I went with the 28″, which is typically the perfect ankle-length on me. I do like how they pair with these white leather sneakers, as well as with the raffia slide sandals shown with the untucked tee above. I assume they’d also work with pumps or a heeled sandal.

VERDICT: Keeping for now, but I’m curious to try the 30″ inseam, to see if I prefer the full length look. I’ve included that pair in my follow-up order.

Coming Soon… Stay Tuned!

I thought it might be fun to give you a sneak peek into my next Try-On Haul. These are the items I’ve ordered that I didn’t get around to trying yet. I’ll try to get pictures this weekend and post them to my Instagram Story, for anyone who doesn’t want to wait till next Friday.

  1. The barrel leg jeans aren’t terrible like some I have seen. Some make women look bow legged. I wish you would pose in them standing straight to really see how they look. Since they’re loose probably cooler in the summer then tighter jeans. The vest is so cute. I remember wearing them in the 70s. I’m seeing the trend of colored pants in pink, green etc. I’m tempted but don’t wanna hear they’re dated next year.

    1. Terri, check out the second pic in the post. Jo-Lynne is pretty much standing straight on to the mirror…wearing the barrel leg jeans.

  2. Evereve is one of my favorite shops right now too! I have one about 10 minutes away and it is dangerous to just pop over and see what is new and now. 🙂 Enjoy your new shop!

  3. Evereve has become my go to for all things as well . I really don’t need more brand but those barrel jeans are cute ! Do you think they will be around for awhile or are they a one season and done fad ?

  4. I’m so happy you tried the barrel leg. I’ve been searching for a not-too-dramatic pair myself–perhaps I’ll try the Evereve ones. And the vest trend–I’ve always loved vests.

In other questions, would you consider a Frank and Eileen try on? I’m so intrigued but the price point stops me each time. But I recently bought the Spanx AirEssentials outfit and am loving that SO much that I’m interested in other similar loungewear. Just curious and I trust you. 😀

  5. I commented on your IG stories and I’ll say it again here I ADORE barell leg jeans. Some people aren’t keen on them, and that’s understandable. I like that we all have different likes and dislikes and I think you do a great job of exploring the options. Today I am wearing a pair of Ruti Wide-ish pants in black, with a black vest I picked up at Target and a cashmere sweater on top (it’s still a bit chilly here in the PNW). I appreciate you showing us what you’re trying on next, that’s a great idea. Thanks for all your hard work.

  6. Hi JoLynne,

I like Quince a lot and have ordered a few items over the past couple of years. I have found their items run a bit small and usually size up one to be safe. I’ve had a few returns, but I’ve never had to pay return shipping. Do you know if this is a new policy?

    1. Ooops. I need to double check! I was going from memory. Okay, I stand corrected. I will fix my post. Thanks for letting me know!!

Here is their official policy: Not loving it? No worries. You have 365 days to make a free, easy exchange or return.

  7. I’m glad you shared a little information on Quince since I’ve been getting emails from them. You shared some nice things.

  8. Funny you styled the LOFT blue linen dress. I just tried mine on that came in the mail. I ordered size down from my normal size due to reviews saying its too big and it looks like you think the same thing. But, the size 2 just fits, but does fit me like a size 4 my normal. Does linen shrink at all when washed on cold and laid flat to dry which is what I’ll do? I’m tempted to order the size 4 just to see how much bigger it is, but I’m afraid it will be too big under the arms and chest area. What would your wear for a topper with it. My jean jacket isn’t the right blue and looks bad. I have a navy short cardigan and white one but it feels kind of dated the look. Would you think white denim jacket? I wanted something more modern looking. When you compare the size 6 you ordered, could you give some topper ideas? Thanks. It really is a nice style.

    1. I ordered those short cardigans to possibly pair with it, but I didn’t try them together. I am struggling with toppers these days, as well. A white denim jacket was my go-to in years past, but that look is feeling tired to me.

  9. I love the Quince t-shirts! I just wish they had more colors. They are my go-to for cashmere, also. Very affordable and extremely comfortable.

  10. I really like the barrel leg jeans on you. I bought a pair from the Gap a year ago or so. I didn’t want to invest a lot, but I really like them. Like the ones you tried on, they aren’t as extreme as others I’ve seen. I also really like the ecru shorts with the white vest. Such a clean classy look.

    1. I do occasionally, but their styles tend to be a little more boho than what appeals to me. They have good denim, and I like their jewelry. I often source from there when I’m doing roundups, especially accessories.

  11. I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the barrel leg jeans – it’s a shape I’ve always steered away from – think I will give them another look now! Great post thankyou x

  12. Hi Jo-Lynne,
I’m going to a celebration of life. I thought it would be more of a funeral and so I ordered a navy fit and flare dress. How can I accessorize it to make it more celebratory? My shoe choices are black leather flats or tan platform sandals.
    Thank you!

    1. First, I’d go with the tan platform sandals. It’s more modern and summery. As far as jewelry, I’d just layer on some bracelets, maybe larger or more fun earrings than maybe what you would do for a funeral, but I wouldn’t worry about it being navy. That’s such a versatile summer color. You could try some rattan accessories or modern pearl jewelry, if you have anything like that.
