Jo-Lynne’s April Favorites

It’s another Saturday post! I’ve had this one in my queue for a while, and if I wait till next week, it won’t be April anymore.

Although, with the freezing cold spring we’re having, most of these will probably end up being May favorites as well. At any rate, I decided to post it today.

2022 April Favorites

This is basically a roundup of new finds and old favorites I’m particularly loving right now.

Clarins Self Tanning Instant Gel

one // This has long been my favorite self-tanning lotion, and I’ve started using it again because I’m shooting shorts and short-sleeved outfits so much right now.

This self tanning gel applies smoothly and easily and doesn’t settle into cracks and crevices. It’s buildable, so I usually apply every day for a few days to get the color I want, but I start seeing results within hours of the first application.

It used to be sold everywhere from Sephora and Ulta to Macy’s and Nordstrom, and even Amazon, but I’m having a hard time finding it this spring so I really hope it isn’t getting discontinued! At the moment, it’s available on the Clarins website, and shipping is free over $50.

[flex_row]Cable Knit Sweater with Shorts on the Beachsweater and shorts on the beach[/flex_row]

two (see more of this outfit) // If I could only have one pair of denim shorts in my closet, it would be these. They’re spendy, but they are so comfortable, and that is really hard to find in a denim short. I also feel like they’re more flattering than most.

I like how they fit in the leg — not too loose but not too tight either. The 4″ inseam is flattering but still youthful, and the rolled hem is sewn on the sides so it stays put. They have a faded wash with a bit of distressing, which keeps them casual without looking like Daisy Duke’s.

For a less expensive option, these Joe’s are nice, but the denim is a little stiffer.

Dopp Kit for Women

three // This Dopp Kit from Minted is so spacious and convenient and easy to use, and I love that it can be personalized. My exact design has been discontinued, but they have so many pretty patterns.

I was able to fit all my toiletries in this bag for my last trip with some room to spare, and that is a feat, trust me! I also like how easily it packed into my suitcase. It makes a nice graduation or Mother’s Day gift, or a treat for yourself!

Spanx Shorts

four (full outfit details here) // I’m loving this smocked muscle tank from LOFT right now. I have it in both black and white.

I wore both in Florida, but this black one got a lot of airtime. I wore it with these green shorts and flat sandals for a casual daytime look, and then I paired it with my ecru jeans and wedge sandals for dinner one night.

It’s 100% cotton and runs true to size with a generous fit. I washed it and hung it to dry so it wouldn’t shrink up too much.

Vince Camuto Molisana Wedge Sandals

five (also at Macy’s) // I’ve worn these sandals almost daily on both of my Florida trips this spring. They go with just about everything from shorts and skirts to jeans and jumpsuits, and they’re very comfortable.

Word of warning, they’re definitely better for narrow feet, and you’ll probably want to size up half. They’re priced right under $100 and are available at Evereve (with a $5.95 shipping fee) and Macy’s (free shipping over $25).

[flex_row] Ecru Denim Trend Spring 2022[/flex_row]

six (see more of this outfit) // This sweater is such a nice one for springtime. The square neckline and subtle puffed sleeve keep it modern, but it has a classic style that makes it somewhat timeless as well.

I also love this shade of blue; it pairs perfectly with white or ecru jeans and the cognac wedge sandals.

seven (see more of this outfit) // I’ve been wearing these earrings a ton this spring, and I always get compliments when I do. They’re lightweight, but large enough to pack a punch.

Supergoop Mineral Sheerscreen

eight // I put this sunscreen on my face, neck, and chest every morning before I go outside to walk or run. The sheer formula soaks in easier than most mineral sunscreens, and it doesn’t irritate sensitive skin. It’s made in the USA and is paraben-free, sulfate-free, phthalate-free, and fragrance-free.

This 1.5 fl. oz. size is small enough to fit easily into my purse so I always have it available if I find myself out and about and in need of sunscreen. In fact, I tucked it into my crossbody and used it on my arms and legs when we were outside all day at the theme parks in Florida.

Jo-Lynne Shane wearing LOFT Swing Trench

nine (see more of this outfit) // The perfect spring trench has finally been born! I love everything about the cut and style of this one, and it has enough stretch to be comfortable and not feel restricting.

I’ve been wearing it quite a bit with my church outfits this spring, but I also like how it elevates a casual look like this one. It runs true to size (wearing a small) and it’s currently 40% off with code FRIENDS.

white t-shirt and jeans for 2022

ten (also at Nordstrom; outfit details HERE) // You know all about these jeans already. I found them when shopping in my local Nordstrom store last spring, fell in love with the fit and comfort level, but wasn’t sure I was up for the chewed crop step hem and ripped up knees.

I brought them home “to think about” and the rest, as they say, is history! These have easily been my most worn jeans over the past year, and they’re still going strong. I especially love them for spring and summer. They run true to size, or size down if in between.

eleven (budget option; see more of this outfit) // These are a crazy splurge, but I wear them so much, I thought they deserved a mention. I lost my favorite sunglasses that I wore almost daily for three years. I think I left them at a restaurant. #ooof

I called around and couldn’t find them, so when I went to buy them again, I found this YSL pair. I tried both and compared, and I finally decided if I was going to purchase a new pair, I might as well get something different.

A similar for less version that I like a lot is this DIFF pair.

twelve (see more of this outfit) // So happy to see the Coach brand making a comeback. This is another item I’ve talked a lot about already, and it’s become my go-to white bag for dressier looks this spring. I love the size and the design, and it even has a longer crossbody strap, should you want that.

The pebbled leather is gorgeous, and I particularly like the nubuck lining. It looks and feels very luxe; in fact, I would say the quality is on par with some of my luxury designer bags.

thirteen // I’m calling this my newest favorite Victoria Emerson bracelet, but that changes weekly, ha! I have loved the full size Alicante Cuff for along time, but sometimes it’s a bit much. This mini style is perfect for everyday, and it’s $25 off today.

In fact, Victoria Emerson is running a promotion with $25 off any full-price item on the site!

fourteen (see more of this outfit) // This jacket is so good, I have it in 4 colors, but this green is my favorite for spring. It pairs beautifully with blue or white denim and neutral shoes.

This jacket is cropped with a fitted silhouette, and it does have a good amount of stretch, but the arms are cut on the slimmer side, so you may want to size up if in between. It sold out on Zappos, but I found it fully stocked on the KUT from the Kloth website!

So, that’s it for this month! And it really IS it for this month, because tomorrow is May 1st. I can hardly believe April is almost in the rear window. I’m hoping we finally start getting some spring weather here in Philly.

Meanwhile, I’ve got tons of content lined up for May that I’m excited about, and of course I’m very curious to see how my surgery goes next week. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

  1. You do a great job displaying shopping finds. I liked number 2, the shorts the best. I followed the link to find them. When I saw the price, $168, something inside of me said “no”. I will keep my eye open for another less expensive option you may post. By the way, it appears you have the most lovely skin! Best to you!

  2. You have some great April favorites! I can see them remaining as your favorites for the month of May. I hope that you have a great weekend.

  3. I think the Clarins self tanner is being discontinued. They’ve replaced it with tanning drops that you mix into your favorite lotion or moisturizer. I just bought the drops to try.

      1. I haven’t tried them yet. I’ll let you know. It was 80 degrees on Saturday through Wednesday last week and I wanted a little color, but never had time to “tan” (such a process right?) But now we’re back in the high 60s/low 70s so my arms and legs are covered cuz 72 is chilly for me! 🤣

Good luck with your surgery next week; I’m sure it’ll go great and you’ll be so happy with your new slightly smaller curves. ❤️

  4. Good luck with your surgery next week & I love your posts! I’m in the UK & have found the way you put your outfits & accessories together so helpful. Thankyou X
