Budget-Friendly Transition Styles from Gap Factory

** This post is sponsored by Gap Factory and Collective Voice.

Summer always seems so short, doesn’t it??? I know it’s just the beginning of August, but back-to-school activities are starting up, and I’m getting excited for the fall season ahead! This is the time of year when I like to start adding some more transitional pieces to my wardrobe.

Now is the perfect time to shop Gap Factory for current styles that won’t break the budget, because you can get 50% off sitewide + an extra 10% off your purchase during their Friends & Family Sale (exclusions apply)!

Since summer weather will be with us for a while longer, I’m looking for warm-weather styles in colors that give a nod to fall, like this burgundy sweater tank.

Ribbed V-Neck Sweater Tank (M) // High Rise Wide-Leg Crop Jeans (29)

The sleeveless style and lightweight knit are comfortable even on the hottest days, but it comes in some really nice autumnal colors such as Mesculen Green, Sand Khaki, and this

I also like the subtle details in the knit, which add interest and flattering lines, and the shorter length is perfect for pairing with high rise pants. It’s 100% cotton, and it runs true to size or size up if in between. I’m wearing the medium.

These light wash high rise wide leg crop jeans are another nice transitional style from Gap Factory. They look great with sandals right now, but they’ll pair perfectly with clogs and sneakers this fall. They come in a wide range of sizes from 24 – 35; and in short, regular, and tall lengths.

For those who prefer mid-rise styles, you’re going to love these Mid Rise Baby Boot Jeans in a comfortable stretch denim! They’re cut slim through the hip and thigh, with a modest bootcut leg opening, and a modern light wash.

They also come in short, regular, and tall lengths; and the inseam on the regular is 31.5″, which works perfectly with heels on my 5’5″ frame. If I wanted to wear them with flats, I’d go with the short, or I could have these hemmed.

I topped them off with this pretty coral crewneck cardigan over a simple white tank. I’m starting to see more of this traditional cardigan style, and I like it!

You can wear it unbuttoned over a tank top with jeans or pants, as shown here, or even over a dress for extra warmth. The other option is to keep it buttoned up, almost like a pullover style.

I’m wearing the small here, but if I wanted to wear it buttoned, I’d need the medium. This sweater comes in a bunch of colors; I’m wearing the Tomato Red, but I also really like that Chic Purple Plum.

And this tank is a great basic to have in multiple colors. It’s smooth and soft and stretchy, and it tucks easily into pants or skirts. It has a body-con fit, so I sized up to a medium for a little extra wiggle room.

Here’s an example of a button-up cardigan worn as a pullover. I have the small in the coral cardigan above, but I went with the medium in this ribbed crewneck cardigan so it doesn’t gape over the chest.

Ribbed Crewneck Cardigan (M) // Mid Rise Kick Fit Jeans (29)

I really like this soft, ribbed knit with an easy fit through the body. It’s also slightly shorter than the more traditional style above, so it lends itself well to wearing it this way.

This cardigan comes in a really pretty Desert Sage Green, as well as a classic Black and Ivory and this chic Sand Khaki that I’m wearing here.

I love shades of tan with black in the fall, so I paired it with black kick fit jeans.

These Mid Rise Kick Fit Jeans in an inky black wash are a must-have in your fall/winter wardrobe. They can be dressed up or down and worn with flats or heels.

For a different look, I also styled them with an olive green shaker stitch sweater. This sweater is made of a soft cotton knit, and it has a relaxed fit with a rolled crewneck and a ribbed, banded hem.

The sleeves almost have a blouson shape to them, with a drop shoulder and extra long banded cuffs. It also comes in a Navy Marl and a Classic Burgundy, and it comes in sizes XS – XXL. I’m wearing a small, and it’s plenty roomy, so I’d say it’s true to size, or size down if in between.

I added brown clogs, for some color contrast, and to keep with the fall vibes.

This is the type of outfit I like to live in once the weather turns cold. It’s so easy and comfortable, but the current silhouette and pleasing combination of colors keep it looking fresh and modern.

If you’re looking to refresh your wardrobe with some transitional styles at great prices, be sure to check out the New Arrivals at Gap Factory! I also have my eye on this ribbed v-neck cardigan, this mixed stitch cardigan, and this classic single-breasted top coat.

And Gap Factory carries a wide range of sizes and styles for the whole family, so this is also a great time to get your kids (or grandkids) outfitted for school.

  1. Good Morning ! I love those wide leg cropped jeans – I just wish Gap could get with it and list the rise of the jean. For me, that is the first thing I want to know. If the rise is too high/low I am not even looking at any other measurements.

  2. Perfect timing with this post. I have a Junior in HS and she’s been wanting to refresh her look, Gap Factory is great for that. I am going to show her this post. Maybe since the clothing ideas are coming from a complete stranger she’ll be more conducive to them 😂 because we know if they come from me she’ll turn her nose up to them. Teenagers 🫤

  3. I like the outfits on you. I am so ready for fall and cooler temps. Yes, the after 50 thickening in the midsection is a real thing. The women that don’t have it are lucky. That is one of the main reasons I prefer higher cut jeans; the mid-rise draw attention to it, which is not what I want to do. Have a good day!

  4. Thanks I love your Gap Factory suggestions because I definitely forget to check them out. That sleeveless black dress you shared this summer came in so handy, thank you!

  5. I really like Gap Factory lately so I was pleased to see this post. I actually bought the sweater tank yesterday, guess I should have waited! I’ve bought clothes there for my teenage son who only wants to wear sweats and athletic clothes and they wash up well and seem to be quality for the money. Regarding the cardigans, I’m considering getting both, plus the ribbed v-neck cardigan on their site. How long are the sleeves? I like the styling with the sleeves scrunched up but I don’t get an idea of length.
By the way, I didn’t comment on your Italy posts, but I loved all of them and lived vicariously through you! I showed them to my husband too and he enjoyed reading them as well! It is a goal for us, one day…. In the meantime, I’ll just drink Prosecco. 🙂

    1. The sleeves are full length; I think the ribbed one might have slightly more generous sleeve length.

Hey, if you can’t get to Italy, Prosecco is a good substitute. 🙂

  6. Thanks for this post! The tank top is so pretty on you and looks to be of nice quality. I hope so because I just purchased three of them!

  7. I love the lighter wash jeans with the burgundy, always a favorite of mine. Good idea with the cardigans, always can get a lot of wear out of them. Love the hydrangeas in front of your house, I have a gigantic lavender/blue one at my deck.

  8. Enjoyed the Gap Factory post. Actually, we will be visiting the Tanger Outlet in Myrtle Beach tomorrow and will certainly stop in! I love this outlet because it’s the only one I know of that has Lululemon and Tommy Bahama Outlets! I love the looks of the thin cardigan sets, and I’m glad they are shorter now! I loved yesterday posts about the ever-changing women’s body! I am on the other side of Menopause (at 69) and have found out the Intermittent Fasting and portion control is my friend. Been doing that for almost 2 years and it has helped SO much. Cutting sugars, wine (except for special occasions) and carbs. Enjoy your favorite foods in moderation.

  9. I like summer except for the continuous 100 plus temperatures. I’m hoping by September it might be 90s. Really like the black jeans. All the outfits are cute.

  10. Thanks for another great post and all the info you provide! Maybe I missed it but, what size are you wearing in the green shaker stitch sweater? Wondering if it runs big or true to size? Thank you!

  11. Just bought the Baby Boot jeans, 2 cardigans and a tank! I’m trying your second cardigan in the Chic Purple Plum, and ordered the Ribbed V-neck that you linked. I’m so glad so see more of the traditional style cardigans! I’ve always liked Gap Factory! Thanks for all you do!

  12. I always laugh when I hear northerners say summer goes by so quick! Meanwhile in Mississippi, it at least six months and never ends! Lol. But I fully agree with the concept of embracing fall colors in items that fit the temp. My version is shifting to fall colors in my shorts and linen pants lol.
I agree with the others, I have truly enjoyed your gap factory posts. I haven’t ordered anything yet but the styles are very trendy and the prices are ridiculously good! Do you find the quality to be decent? I know probably not designer quality, but not cheap looking like the Amazon stuff so many are buying?

    1. Yeah, I feel like it’s a really good value.

And I’m sure if you live in the South, you feel like fall NEVER comes. I’m actually ready for fall in September. I just wish summer arrived here sooner. I feel like I’m always waiting for it to get warm well past when it should be.

      1. This year it showed up the last week of Feb!!! Thankfully with a brief reprieve in March. I would LOVE to see fall in Sept! On a positive note, my winter is only two months so I guess we have the opposite problem (I used to joke with a friend in Massachusetts that we should swap houses for a year!)

I’m glad you’ve found Gap Factory to be a good value, I’m definitely going to give it a try! Can we shop thru your links anytime or only when you’ve done a recent featured post?

  13. I LOVE all these things! I need to get shopping! 😂 I especially need to add some black jeans to my fall/winter wardrobe.

  14. Hi…I love your style! I have two questions I’d love your take on. Can you recommend what belts you recommend having in your wardrobe…widths, colors, styles, moderate price points and what pants rise look best with belts? I don’t wear them often but I want to clear out OLD belts I have and just keep some basics while learning how to wear them best. Also, can you advise on the best way to confirm what colors look best. I think I am a “spring” but still find I buy some things that don’t look good on me. Thank you for your expertise!

    1. I think it depends on the color of your shoes, but I like to have black, taupe, and cognac belt options. That seems to cover the bases. The width does tend to ebb and flow with the trends. I have some thinner and some medium width belts at the moment, and I vary them based on how dressy/casual I want to be.

As far as colors go, I know I’m a winter, but I’ve been wanting to do a more in-depth color analysis just to see what they say. That’s what I would recommend.

  15. I went to Gap Factory to try this a few days ago, after Cindy Spivey also showcased it, but unfortunately its a Mid-rise and with my thicker middle its a deal-breaker.
I would have been all over it if it were a high rise jean.

  16. I ordered three of these Gap sweaters, two cardigans and the marled sweater in navy. They came today, and I love them. I also wanted to let you know that the linen-blend Charli shirt from Nordstrom that you recommend is on sale at Nordstrom for just $109. It came today, too, and I’m in love. They have a blue and white striped one that’s only $97 now, and I’m considering getting it as well. Thanks for the great recommendations!
