Coffee Talk 09.13.20

Well, friends. It’s been a rather heavy week, hasn’t it? Between the anniversary of 9/11 and the fires out west, and of course Covid…  it’s a lot.

I feel almost guilty telling you that it has been a perfectly glorious weekend here in eastern Pennsylvania. Our weather turned to fall practically overnight, and fall is quite possibly the most perfect time of year to live in Pennsylvania.

I went out to dinner with girlfriends on Friday night, and we ate outside. It was still a little humid, but the temperature was mild. Then yesterday, I woke up and the humidity was gone. I went out running around 8AM, and it was in the upper 60s and partly sunny. Glorious!

It was partly sunny and breezy all day, and R and I went to Home Goods to get a few things for fall, but ohmyword… it was mobbed.

They were trying really hard to keep people following the directions on the floor, going one way, but it was futile. I couldn’t get out of there fast enough.

We ended up hanging out with friends outside again last night, and I was actually chilly by the time we got home.

This morning, it’s only in the upper 50s, and it looks like another pretty day.

I really do feel for those of you out west who are suffering with the smoke and poor air quality. It’s bad enough that Covid keeps us close to home, but to not even be able to go outside and get a breath of fresh air would really be the final straw. If that’s where you are, I hope you’re hanging in there okay.

In other news, I fell down the rabbit hole this morning and ended up watching a bunch of makeup tutorials on YouTube. I ordered some new products for the under eye area, so I’ll let you know how that goes.

I also got a big box from Colleen Rothschild Beauty this week, with some old favorites and new skincare products to test out, and I’ll be sharing those with you later this month.

It’s that time of year when I’m ready to change things up with my skincare and makeup. I’m still using my summer foundation because I’m still pretty tan, but I know that will start fading soon. I wanted to sit outside for a while yesterday to beef up my tan, but we ended up going to Home Goods instead. Maybe today…

Well, that’s about it for me. There’s not much else new going on here. Virtual learning seems to be going okay for everyone. R and D would rather be in school, but they’re making the best of it. And it’s old hat for C, of course.

I’ve been slowly increasing my run/walk intervals so that I’m doing more running than walking, but I’m trying to take it slowly. I can definitely feel some stiffness in my back, so I’m glad I’m still going to PT once a week. I did quite a bit of running yesterday, so this morning I’m just going to walk.

I’d like to get back to doing the Yoga by Adriene videos as well. I could definitely use the flexibility and balance training.

I hope you all enjoy the rest of your weekend, and if you’re going through trying times right now, be kind to yourself. This too shall pass.

  1. Hi Jolynne, I enjoy reading your blog!! Where can I find the rust colored top that is your profile pic for coffee talk? I love the color, it looks great on you! Thanks😊

    1. Hi Kim! I usually don’t answer questions meant for Jo-Lynne, but she has been asked this before!  Unfortunately this photo is old and so is the top!  There’s gotta be a similar one somewhere!! Ha!

  2. Yes, I look forward to your under eye area reviews – keep us posted 🙂
I fell down the you tube rabbit hole yesterday watching hair videos. I just can never recreate the beachy curls they do for me at the salon! I would be interested to know what tools you use or recommend/don’t recommend. After hours of “research” I curled my daughters long hair beautifully (with a curling iron) only to struggle with my own shorter shoulder length style (iron and curling wand). I appreciate your thoughts on fashion and beauty – need some hair help! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

  3. This too shall pass! Thank you, I needed to hear that. California had a rough week. Besides the smoke for days which is bad, on Wednesday the sky was yellow all day. No birds were out and at Noon, it was dark like twilight. Zombie Armageddon. Nearby in San Francisco, it was orange all day. The Air Quality Index is 200+ so we have to remain indoors. And we had a local earthquake last Saturday. I know it could be so much worse, but it feels like the plagues of old testament days. What’s next? Don’t tell me! Love your posts that feel so normal. I remember those days!!!! Glad you’re feeling well enough to walk run. Yay!

  4. Oh how I can’t wait for us to consistently have fall temps!  We know they will arrive eventually, but to say they are testing our patience is totally accurate.  Tropical storm Sally is about to dump way too much rain on areas that really can’t handle that much rain in LA and MS.  And as of today, it’s going to make a turn to the east, impacting a lot of southern states.  Have a blessed day!

  5. Yes my heart goes out to all those affected by the fires, and I am praying for better days ahead. Our weather here is cool in the mornings, warm to hot by afternoon, and cool again by night. September is a mix of summer and fall, and as much as I love summer, I do appreciate the nice breeze after so much humidity this summer. I too love that rust color top you are wearing in the above picture. I am tempted to try something in that shade but always second guess myself.

  6. Here in Northern CA the air is awful. This week our air quality was labeled hazardous…..it was in the 400s! I am homeschooling my 4 young kids under 10, so not only can we not go anywhere but we are stuck inside all day.

  7. Woke up to yet another smokey day in Oregon. The sunny days we thought we were having all weekend are now smoke as the sun can’t get through. At least that eerie orange glow is gone and I can sit inside and pretend it’s clouds outside, not smoke. :). God is in control and we have to trust Him in these days that feel so out of control. We don’t see the big picture and I pray that we all learn and become better from these trials. I’m reminded today of the verse in James 1:2-4. Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. The word perfect in the last part of verse 4 means: that which has achieved or reached a goal, purpose, fully grown, fully developed, lacking nothing, mature. Ladies let these trials this year develop us into the person Christ is preparing us to be. We will reach this goal the day Christ comes to take us home. Let’s show ourselves faithful until then. Happy Sunday. Again…. forgive me for my grumbling yesterday. I will make it through this smoke here.  I still have my home and many don’t in Oregon and Calif.

    1. Kathy, thank you for sharing such a timely and encouraging note. I’m in Delaware but my sons live in Salem and Portland with my daughters in law and grandbabies-its heartbreaking to get the news and updates firsthand and not be there to help. Praying is the best advice and Faith that it will be OK.
God is in control 💗 Bless you and yours, Kathy…Traci

      1. TRACI….. your welcome. Must be hard being so far from your loved ones. I will keep them in my prayers. Keep the Faith.

  8. I live in British Columbia, Canada. Smoke has showed up here, too. Looks like a foggy, Fall day, except that it definitely is not fog! Be safe everyone!

    1. I live on Vancouver Island, BC and the smoke has blocked the sun. It certainly cooled it down without the warm rays. Crossings our fingers the winds shift and our air clears. I still went for my 5k walk this morning but only saw one other person, the air quality is so poor. I believe rain is in the forecast for the Pacific Northwest so let’s hope that knocks down the fires along the US coast.
I went shopping yesterday. There is certainly a lot of the rust/burnt orange this year. I dipped my toe in that colour with a multi toned top. Baby steps, right?
