Welcome to the LAST Daily Mom Style post of 2014! I’ve worn nothing but pajamas and yoga pants for the past few days, but I did manage to get some pictures before I came down with the plague.
For Christmas Eve, I wore this familiar outfit. I didn’t bother to try to photograph it again. Pardon my squint. The sun was really bright that day! I am so glad I took the plunge with both of those pieces — the embellished sweater (sadly, no longer available) and the coated denim jeans (40% off in remaining sizes!!) I wore both a lot this holiday season, and I’m sure I’ll continue to wear them for the next few months.
On Christmas Day, I decided to break out this Trina Turk blouse I received from Cakestyle, a personal shopping service which is no longer in business. At any rate, the blouse is one that I wear once a year at most, although every time I wear it, I feel great in it, so I should really start wearing it more often. I’m just not usually a blouse girl, but this one fits well. I love the split seams on the sides and the way it hangs longer in the back. I picked up the handbag on the R Minkoff sale (25% sale prices with code BYE2014 — there’s one day left!!!)
This is what I wore the day AFTER Christmas, hanging out at home and recuperating from all the festivities. The Winter Wonder Sweatshirt Jacket was a Christmas present from my husband. I wish I’d read the reviews before adding it to my wish list. It looks super cute on the model, but it’s pretty frumpy-dump on me.
I debated sending it back for a smaller size or a different style sweatshirt, but I decided to keep it for the comfort factor alone. It is soooo cozy, which is primarily why I was drawn to it. It’s my first Zella piece, and while I feel like this one is a bit over-priced, I’ll definitely try their apparel again sometime. Like, this Pretty Moon Dust Hooded Jacket is priced more affordably AND is 25% off right now!
I wore this outfit one evening to go out to eat. I wanted to wear the green cargo pants so I was looking for something grey or black to go with them. I came across this sweater that I’d sort of forgotten about. It was a mild day so the sleeve length wasn’t an issue. Then the next question was the shoes . . . I’m so tired of being so limited with my shoes. I decided to see if I could fit my brace into these moto boots . . . and lo and behold! They worked!
I often wear a scarf with this sweater because it provides a nice canvas, but I decided to opt for a necklace instead. A long pendant works well over a plain top like this because it breaks up the expanse of black, and I needed something silver because I wanted to wear my new bracelet (Christmas present from my husband.) So! This “vintage” Stella & Dot pendant won, lol. (Most of my longer necklaces are gold.)
The components of this outfit are old, but they aren’t unique. I find the dolman sleeve to be particularly flattering — and forgiving for those times when you may have eaten a little bit too much Christmas goose. Ahem. (I wish someone had told me to freshen up my lipstick before taking these pictures!!)
Finally, I wore this outfit to attend a play with my family on Saturday before the plague took hold. I joke, but I’m actually feeling MUCH better already. So much better, in fact, that I’m questioning the flu diagnosis altogether. I guess I’ll never know… This is that purple tunic sweater that shows up at least every other week. Rather than pairing it with leggings, I wore my ponte knit pants. And for something new, I tried it with this gray animal-print scarf. I really like the combination!

Loving all of these looks as usual but my favorites are your red and white top and the purple tunic with the animal print scarf! Have a Happy New Year!

Do you have a link for the black flats? I like them and they look comfy. I love the orange blouse with your hair color. I’m a redhead, so orange is not one of my best colors. And, finally, the link for the purse goes to the moto boots. Thanks for sharing with us. Glad you’re feeling better!
Thanks for the heads up! I’ll fix the link. The ballet flats are here: http://www.rackroomshoes.com/women-shoes/women-casual/100721377907/137790.prod?r=10&c=4&filter_brand=1244&orderby=ordate&dir=desc&st=PRODUCT&filter_cat=women-shoes/women-casual

Happy New Year, my friend! Hopefully before the end of 2015, I can at least meet you and WALK together in our Sauconys. 🙂
I love all of your looks, but I was most excited to read about you trying one of the Zella pieces. I’m about to start my GET IN SHAPE program for 2015, and I have several Zella items in my cart to get me started! Thanks for linking up! Sheaffer 🙂
I know I cannot BELIEVE I don’t have any yet! I like this one, but it really is frumpy on. Still… very cozy!
I have just signed up to receive your emails and enjoy your blog. I will be 60 this June, love to shop (to a fault at times) but I’m finding that I instead of spending more money (love TJMaxx and Marshalls), since following your blog, I have enjoyed organizing my own closet and putting together outfits with jewelry and accessories I already have. Kind of like shopping in my own closet! I totally agree with women dressing over 50 dressing with classic style and not trying to look like their 20 to 30 year old daughter! Thanks for sharing all these great put-to-gether ideas!
That is so nice to hear! And “shopping your closet” is definitely the best way to come up with new outfits! 🙂
