Happy Tuesday, friends! It’s time to continue our discussion of the 2025 Fall Fashion Trends, and today we’re talking shoes! The footwear trends this season are leaning into classic styles and more minimal silhouettes, with plenty of fresh updates to keep things interesting. Most are wearable, versatile options you can easily work into your everyday outfits without feeling over the top.

The Shoes & Boots We’ll Be Seeing Everywhere This Fall
With new arrivals hitting the shelves, these are the seven shoe trends that stand out to me, and the styles I’m most excited to incorporate into my fall wardrobe. I’d love to know which ones you’re excited to try, and which ones you’ll be skipping this season.
Luxe Suede

Suede is one of those textures that instantly says “fall”, and this season, it’s showing up in rich autumnal shades like cognac, chestnut, and deep olive, as well as softer neutrals. Whether it’s a sleek knee-high boot, a refined loafer, or a retro sneaker, suede adds warmth and depth to any outfit while feeling timeless and sophisticated.
Animal Instincts

Leopard, snake, zebra, and yes, even cow prints are showing up all over fall footwear! I love how this adds a fun pop to otherwise classic looks. You can go bold with a statement boot or keep it subtle with a printed loafer or flat, whichever suits your style.
Sheer Moments

Mesh panels, cutouts, and translucent details are giving classic shoe styles a fresh update this fall. This is an easy way to try the see-through trend without going all in, and it’s a subtle way to add texture and interest to a simple look.
Mules, Loafers & Boat Shoes

This season’s slip-on styles are looking more polished and streamlined. Mules feel modern with slimmer soles and pointed or almond toes, while loafers are showing up in luxe leathers and rich colors. Boat shoes are sticking around, too. All three offer an easy, walkable option that works just as well with jeans as with trousers or casual dresses.
Mary Janes & Sleek Ballet Flats

The iconic Mary Jane strap is everywhere this season, from pointed-toe flats to more classic rounded shapes. Ballet flats are also getting a refresh. Sleeker, more structured styles are replacing the overly dainty versions of the past few seasons, and we’re seeing embellishments like studs and grommets, as well as woven textures gaining popularity. Both pair perfectly with jeans, trousers, or dresses and add a polished, feminine touch without sacrificing comfort.
Slim Retro Sneakers

Slim runners have been trending for a while now, but this fall they’re getting even sleeker and more minimal. Suede and leather styles in warm shades of brown are especially popular, often with pared-back detailing and tonal laces. They’re a versatile, polished alternative to sportier sneakers and work just as well with jeans and trousers as they do with casual dresses.
Sleek, Slim Boots

Boots are getting a more streamlined look this fall, as well, with slimmer shafts and minimal detailing. Think pull-on riding boots, sock boots, and close-fitting knee-highs that slip easily under straight and wide-leg pants. They offer a polished, elongated silhouette and work just as well with dresses and skirts as they do with denim.
So there you have it, the seven shoe trends I’m most excited about this fall. Whether you try one or two or embrace them all, these fall shoe trends are an easy way to give your outfits a fresh update this season.

Great options this fall! I’m excited to wear my suede flats, my leopard flats and loafers, and my pointy toe maryjanes. 🙂
I’m going to be the downer here, but I dislike almost all of these options. I look at a few other fashion sites, and I know that you’re spot on, but for me, most of these choices are just yuck. Good thing I live in a backwater village where only about 10% of the residents are fashionable, lol. I do love anything suede, and loafers/boat shoes, and the low profile sneaks (I adore my Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66s), but none of the others appeal to me in the least. It’s gonna be a long winter…
Your comment made me laugh. I live in a large town close to a city. Yet very few are fashionable. I’m always well dressed and modern compared to most. Lol.
I haven’t tried a MaryJane yet and want to but this year struggling what color. Since going grey I just don’t wear the browns, cognac colors etc. as I’m not wearing these tones in clothing. It’s all I see this year. When greys were “in” my hair was still brown with blonde highlights and greys felt off. lol I need to decide a neutral that works. I’ve decided this year I need to get to wearing my Fall transition shoes sooner as it’s such a short time I can before the rains come and mules and less stocky shoes work. Boot season comes fast. Are mules still in to wear? The leopard surprises me. It feels tired and dated to me. I don’t think I’ll purchase leopard this year.
Leopard went out for a few years and then suddenly came back with a vengeance. I agree, it feels a bit too soon, but I’ve always loved a leopard shoe, so I’m going with it!
Mules are back again, although they just started feeling tired to me a year or two ago. This is how fashion is going, it is cycling around so fast due to social media and how small the world has become. I’ve heard it said that at some point, there is not really going to be an “in” or “out” anymore, it’s really more about personal style and making fashion your own. Which is kind of freeing, and nice to see variety out there, but I feel like there will always be the desire to make things feel fresh and new, so not sure how that all jibes. I guess we shall see… I’m just along for the ride, lol!
I’m looking forward to wearing my low profile burgundy suede sneaks again this fall/winter. I got tons of compliments last year. I also bought 2 pairs of Sam E. suede knee boots (camel and deep burgundy) from the Nordstrom sale that you featured. Thanks for taking the guess work out for us. Your information is wonderful to be at our fingertips.
That is so nice to hear, thank you!
I’m old enough to have seen variations of many of these styles that are coming back for fall. Suede has always been a problem for me in shoes because the toes can get shiny with wear. I live in the Pacific Northwest, so they aren’t very practical in the rain either. But I guess it’s suede’s turn to come back.
I hear you. I lived in Oregon for 32 years, and went through countless cans of leather and suede protection.
I’ve seen cow prints pop up and I’m a fan! I’m drawn to loafers and sneakers. But I still like leopard!
I’m actually pretty excited for fall shoes this year! I’ve had trouble finding a pair of booties that I like enough to keep but I’ve got my eye on multiple loafers, low-profile sneakers, and mary janes. When it comes to toe shape is it sort of anything goes right now? I still feel most drawn to the square toe options and they still feel fresh to me. But I’m seeing practically all shapes and wondered if square toe shoes are on the way out already and I should focus on another shape. Oh the conundrum! lol
I feel like square toes are still relevant. It’s all out there, to some extent!
Only print i won’t wear is cow print. I hope the tall boots would actually get slimmer. I have skinny calves and can’t find tall boots. I hope they make the ankle part slimmer too. I have cankles with most tall boots.
I am actively trying to add a pair of leopard print flats to my wardrobe, but it’s not an easy task since I have to have narrow width and arch support. I e always enjoyed wearing mules, so I’d like to find a pair that isn’t chunky. The mesh shoes would be perfect for now, thanks to our highs in the 90’s with feels like 100+.
I’m liking the Sam Edelman suede boots and mules. Not much into the Mary Jane trend. Always inspired by your very informative fashion advice and casual style. Enjoy NYC!
The chunky Dolce Vita loafers caught my eye. I don’t normally wear any style of flats– unless you call sneakers flats, lol. I have never liked them on my feet– maybe because of my size? I wear a 10.5- 11, and often, proportions in flats don’t seem right in larger sizes. I also rarely find flats supportive enough. I do love the look of the brown suede, chunky loafers, though. I just need to decide if I would wear them often enough to justify adding them to my fall/winter lineup. I feel like there are more “in” styles in general right now. I wonder if that has something to do with the variety of jean styles available.
