Fermented Cod Liver Oil for Acne
I read something recently that made a lot of sense — a natural treatment for acne that might actually work!
Fermented cod liver oil! (This is the one that I buy.)
I read it somewhere, and then I did a quick google search and found lots of people proclaiming the benefits of cod liver oil as an acne treatment.
Not just any cod liver oil, though — fermented cod liver oil.
It makes sense, if you think about it. Besides the fact that cod liver oil seems to be good for just about anything that ails us (from ADD to memory loss to joint aches and pains to weight gain), it is chock full of vitamin A. If vitamin A is what most quality skincare products are using these days to help fight acne from the outside, doesn’t it make sense that it would be beneficial to acne prone skin when taken internally as well??
From what I read, it seems that fermented cod liver oil is one of the best natural sources of vitamin A and D as well as Omega 3 fatty acids. It is the fermentation that is key, though. Otherwise it’s just another synthetic supplement that may or may not get assimilated into our bodies.
Most of us are deficient in vitamins A and D and Omega 3 these days. Taking a fermented cod liver oil supplement is probably the one best thing you can do for your overall health and wellness.
I’ve tried to get in the habit of taking it and giving it to my family, but we are often really lax about it. But with a son going into adolescence (and acne season), I have renewed my commitment to make sure we are all taking our cod liver oil. I’d love to see if this makes a difference and helps him avoid the acne that tends to plague so many adolescents these days.
Of course, cutting out processed foods and eating a wholesome diet is key here as well. I do the best I can to keep good quality foods in the house, but the older my kids get the less control I have when they’re not under my roof. But that’s a different issue altogether!
Tell me if you’ve heard this, tried this, what you think!
