Top 10 in October

I always like to take some time at the beginning of a new month and look back at the last month’s posts and see what products and posts were the most popular, so today I’m sharing my Top Ten in October!

TOP 10 POSTS IN OCTOBER 2020

Based on Google Analytics, these were the top 10 posts on my blog during the month of October — but not necessarily the posts I published last month. Sometimes older posts still get a lot of traffic from Pinterest or Google, so they continue to rank in the top 10, even through they were published a while ago.

These posts are listed in typical Top Ten order, with the most popular one last.

10. Fall Try-On Haul: Talbots, Amazon, LOFT, Everlane & Nordstrom

My try-on hauls are always popular, but this month, they barely made the Top Ten. Sometimes they get really loooooong. I probably should figure out a way to cut back on the commentary and amount of pictures, but I always feel like the different angles are helpful.

9. What I Wore Lately Vol. 29

And another popular feature, this is the only What I Wore Lately that made the Top Ten this month… there are some really cute outfits in here, if I do say so myself!

8. Try-On Haul: J.Crew, Abercrombie, Nordstrom, LOFT & More

Another try-on haul! That Ambercrombie sherpa looks so cozy… makes me want to go put it on right now.

7. How to Wear Ankle Boots

This post is an oldie but goodie that I’ve updated a few times in an effort to keep it current. I actually wrote this back when everyone was asking me how to wear ankle boots with their skinny jeans. Now we think that seems obvious, and we’re trying to figure out the straighter styles. Fashion is a funny thing.

6. Nail Color Trends for Fall

fall 2020 nail color trends

We stepped away from fashion for a minute to talk about fall nail polish trends… I was kind of surprised to see this post rank so high. I guess I need to remember that for next year.

5. Experimenting with Chelsea Boots and Straight Leg Jeans

Well, this post certainly incited a lot of varying opinions in the comments. I’m still struggling with this, truth be told. I’ve done more experimenting with different styles and lengths of jeans and both pairs of Chelsea boots, and they all look incredibly awkward to me.

4. Old Outfits Updated for 2020

I still can’t believe I am the same weight in both of those pictures. It’s amazing what good fit and wearing styles that flatter your body will do for you.

3. My New Under Eye Routine

My New Under Eye Routine

I’m not much of a skincare/makeup guru, but I’ve been trying some new products recently, and I’m really excited about my new under eye routine. It takes a little extra time, but it’s worth it.

2. How to Wear Cardigans Without Looking Frumpy

Fight the Frump: How to Wear Cardigans Without Looking Frumpy with real life examples and style tips geared for women over 40!

This is another old post that is always in the top three. I can’t believe how much traffic it gets from Pinterest. It’s probably time for an update with new pictures.

1. Are Skinny Jeans Out Of Style?

Once again, by far and away the most popular post on my blog this month… the skinny jean question. I just gave it a quick update it with a few new pictures, but the content is still the same.

I’m still seeing plenty of skinnies around, especially now that the weather is getting cold and we want to tuck them into our boots. They’re also perfect for the combat boot trend. This post shares some tips for styling them in a way that looks modern.

Okay, moving on to popular products…

TOP 10 PRODUCTS IN OCTOBER 2020

These were the 10 most popular products across my blog and social channels last month. They’re listed in typical Top Ten order, with the most popular one last.

10. Treasure & Bond Cozy V-Neck Hooded Sweatshirt

also wearing: Paige crop skinnies (size 28) with P448 sneaks

This is such a great color for fall, and this top is cute and a little different. It’s verrrry soft but thinner than a sweatshirt, more of a thick t-shirt material. I love the v-neckline, the dolman sleeves, and the banded waist. Plus, the hood is cute and sporty, and it’s not heavy or annoying at all.

9. Colorescience Total Eye 3-in-1 Renewal Therapy (more colors at Dermstore)

also wearing: Caslon stripe tee

This product is pricey, but I feel like it’s doing wonders for my under-eye area. Not only is it a treatment lotion, it has all-mineral SPF 35, and it’s tinted so it helps with color correcting. Use it sparingly, and for best results, let it set up 15-20 minutes before applying makeup.

FYI, the same goes for your facial sunscreen; for that, I’m using UV Elements Tinted Broad-Spectrum SPF 44. The all-mineral sunscreen doesn’t irritate my skin, and it’s also tinted. I just put both products on auto-order at Dermstore, so I save 15%.

8. Goodthreads Women’s Heritage Fleece Hooded Tunic Sweatshirt

This sweatshirt is suuuuuper soft inside, and it’s very thick and cozy. I like the longer cut with the side slits. Unfortunately, this color (russet brown) is out of stock, but it comes in a bunch of other colors. I’m wearing the small.

7. Banana Republic Cotton-Blend Bell-Sleeve Sweater

also wearing: AG Farrah skinnies (size 28), rag & bone sunnies

Unfortunately this sweater is also low inventory, especially in this color. I think it’s such a pretty camel — really more of an oatmeal/beige. It’s TTS; I have the small.

6. Caslon Utility Jacket

also wearing: grey tee (size M), white Madewell skinnies (size 28), rag & bone sunnies

And this jacket is sold out too… at least it usually is. Sometimes a random size will pop back in stock. I have the small, and it fits fine over a tank or tee, but it’s a tad snug in the shoulders, so I recommend sizing up if you tend to run between sizes.

5. Fuinloth Women’s Padded Vest

also wearing: thermal tee, AG Farrah skinnies, P448 sneaks

I wanted a new quilted vest to wear over sweaters and tees for casual outdoor events, and I found this one on Amazon. It’s really flattering, and a very good price. It comes in a variety of colors, and I have the size small.

4. AGL Studded Pointy Toe Moc

These were one of those purchases I grabbed because the sale price was so good, but I had a feeling I would end up returning them. I couldn’t have been more wrong. I absolutely love them. Unfortunately, like so many of these popular items, they’re selling out, but you might have some luck with one of the other colors. Definitely size up half, if ordering.

3. Leith Dolman Sleeve V-Neck Sweater

also wearing: Good American Good Legs skinnies, size 28

I picked up this sweater on a whim, and I’ve already worn it several times. I love the length, the cut of the neckline, and the dolman sleeves. And this one, I’m happy to tell you, is pretty well stocked! I’m wearing the olive sarma, but the other colors are good too. My only caveat is that it’s fairly lightweight, so if you’re in an area that is already getting winter weather, you might want to put this one away for spring. (It’s TTS; I have a small.)

2. Good American Good Legs High Waist Crop Skinny Jeans (more sizes at Bloomies)

also wearing: J.Crew leopard flats; size 9

These jeans probably need no introduction, I wear them about every other day. They seem to go with everything, and the fit and feel is fantastic. They don’t bag out with wear, and they don’t slide down. They run true to size, but give them an hour or two to break in. Mine felt snug in the legs at first, but it didn’t take long until they felt like I’d had them for years.

1. J.Crew Vintage NYC T-Shirt

also wearing: Talbots flyaway cardigan, size S

And finally, this tee is from last year, but this year’s version was the top seller this month! It really is such a nice, elevated graphic tee for adding interest to casual looks. It looks great under cardigans, denim jackets, leather jackets, utility jackets… you name it! Unfortunately, it is low inventory, and a final sale item. If ordering, I recommend sizing up. I have the medium.

And that’s a wrap! I always like to ask, which posts from October were your favorites, and did you score any of these Top Ten products?

  1. I love your try-on hauls and don’t find them to be too long at all! I appreciate your commentary and the various angles of the photographs.  Hope the wait in line isn’t too long…

  2. Such a great post, JoLynne!  In there somewhere, you mentioned that perhaps you should limit your commentary to keep some posts from being so lengthy.  I love your commentary, and (in my opinion), the commentary is what sets you apart from the herd.  There are many bloggers out there who seem to acquire products and clothes, take pictures, and provide links to buy.  When I read your posts, I’m really learning to analyze what works, and what will work for me any WHY!  Thank you!

  3. Even though I read your post every day, apparently I occasionally miss one when I have a busy day. That’s why I love these posts! I missed the one on nail polish colors this month. Someone else mentioned your commentary. That’s why I love your posts, Jo-Lynne. I had to laugh yesterday. I was talking to my manicurist about jeans styles and referred to you as “my friend”. Lol.

  4. I agree with the others, your commentary is what sets you apart from other bloggers. I don’t want to just see an outfit and I love the way you talk about an outfit. I learn so much from your commentary. Thanks, Jo-Lynne!

  5. I liked #4 Old Outfits Updated. It was fun to look back and see how you styled something in the past to now. Hope the voting line isn’t too long for you guys. We voted early and then I went back with my 24 yr daughter so she could vote. Both times were quick and easy. Will your son vote?

    1. Absolutely! But he wasn’t willing to get up at 6:30 to do it. 🙂 He’ll take his chances later on. From the time we got in line, until we got back in our car, it was almost exactly an hour. Not bad! Unfortunately, it was verrrry windy and cold, and it was crowded inside with poor traffic patterns. I tried to get in and out as fast as I could.

  6. Please please do not limit your commentary or photos! Your writing and posting style is uniquely yours, and it is so much more helpful than just looking at and scrolling through photos. I often go back and reread your comments and suggestions when putting together my outfits. Your hard work is so appreciated!

  7. I agree with the others, keep the commentary coming! The way you analyze your clothing choices really does set you apart from other bloggers and keeps me looking forward to your blog posts every day!

  8. This is off topic but we just moved to a new home. I remember you linking the rugs you put in your entry and family room but can’t seem to locate those links. Do you mind giving me those links again? Thanks!!

  9. I love when you do all the commentary and angles. It really helps me, not only to imagine the item on me (I wear a size larger on top, but the same size on the bottom), but also how to look at what I have in my closet (and what I should purge.) It is past due for a purging.
Your commentary is what sets you apart from other bloggers. I need to know your thinking about an outfit or item 🙂 On this cold, windy day, I am looking at Goodthreads hooded sweatshirt, again. I usually don’t like hooded sweatshirts, but I think today would have been the perfect day for this one. I could put the hood up, with a jacket over it since it is so windy and cold. Just have to decide on which color.

  10. I agree with the other ladies: keep the commentary and analysis coming! It really helps me to understand what works and what doesn’t. That is exactly what sets your blog miles apart from the others. I also feel like you are a friend who won’t let me wear out of date looks! 😉
I also enjoy the monthly summaries in case I miss a post. Glad voting was relatively quick for you. Praying for peace and safety in the USA.

  11. Oops! Looks like the hooded sweatshirt from amazon is out of medium in every color. Oh, well! Maybe it will come back.

  12. Great post as usual.  I love these!   I ordered the Amazon chocolate brown quilted vest and I loved it so much, I found your link again and I ordered another color.  They fit so well!  And I agree with the others – your commentary is the best! I always look forward to all of your posts. I love to hear what you have to say about the outfits and if they work for you, and why or why not.

  13. I totally agree with the other comments. The information you provide in detail sets you apart from the other bloggers! Prayers for a positive outcome and safety during the upcoming days for the USA ! your friend across the border 🇨🇦
