It’s another Wednesday, and that means it’s time for What I Wore Lately! This is when I round up my daily outfits from the past few weeks and share a little bit about where I wore them and how they came together.

SIZING NOTES: I’m 5’5″ and I usually wear a small or medium in tops and dresses, a 29 or 30 in jeans and pants, and a size 8 shoe. Gifted items are indicated by c/o; everything else I purchased myself.
What I Wore: 2 Weeks of Everyday Outfits
I spend most of my days working from home and running mundane errands or going to mundane appointments, and this was one such day. This stripe trim sweatshirt is the perfect medium weight, it’s nice and soft with an easy fit and a nice length for leaving untucked, and I love the stripe trim detail on the sides.
I’m also a huge fan of raglan sleeves because they tend to soften boxy shoulders, so it pretty much checks all my boxes. I put it together with these crop boot jeans and my VEJA sneakers for a casual, sporty fall look.

I had a photo shoot the next day, and this was is what I wore to run some errands on the way home.

We had a dinner to attend that night, and I wore this stripe dress with taupe slides. This has become my go-to dress and shoe pairing for when I want to wear something besides jeans but I don’t need to be as dressy as heels.

The next day was rather warm and humid, and I wore shorts and a t-shirt to do some grocery shopping and get some new fall plants.

We hosted friends for dinner that night, and I had just received this rust sweater in the mail. I tried it on with a couple different pairs of jeans, and I ended up wearing it with the Frank & Eileen Derry jeans and cognac slides. I felt like it looked slightly more elevated than the Birks and flares.

I wore this next look to church, and here’s how it came together. I knew I wanted to wear this green mock neck top, and instead of my usual blue or black jeans, I thought it might be fun to pair it with these ecru wide leg jeans. I’ve learned that I like wide leg jeans best with a heel, so I pulled out these brown Vionic sandals.

The high rise of the jeans works well with the shorter length of the top, but I felt like the outfit was rather plain,, so I tried a front tuck and added a brown belt in a shade that coordinates with the sandals.

To that, I added my Dragon Diffusion woven tote that I haven’t carried nearly enough this season. It was a splurge purchase last year, and it’s such gorgeous leather. I have the Tan color that’s sold out, but that Natural color looks really pretty too.

I came home from church and tried the look with my Veronica Beard suede slingbacks, to see if I could carry this look into the fall, as I don’t see myself wearing sandals for much longer. I think it works, but for some reason I like these pants better with sandals.

Okay, so the next day was Monday, and I didn’t feel like putting on makeup, but I did put on jeans and a fun sweatshirt. I don’t think I went anywhere, but for some reason, I feel like I’m more productive when I wear pants that button and zip. This sweatshirt sold out at Evereve, but it’s part of The Style Event at Shopbop, where you can save up to 25% off, depending on how much you spend.

Okay, here’s another outfit progression for you. I attend a weekly Bible study that just started back up again, and I try to level up a bit. Our weather had finally cooled down some, so I pulled out this smocked tee and my favorite full-length wide leg jeans. I already know this combination works because I wore it a few weeks ago to meet friends for drinks.

To that, I added these croc embossed mules because the jeans need a heel, and it seemed too soon for boots and too chilly for sandals. My only other transition shoes with a heel high enough to wear with these jeans are brown clogs (similar to these), and I think black looks better with this color palette.

I wanted to wear a lightweight jacket, and black seemed like the obvious choice with the burgundy top and the shoes I chose, so that led me to this Rails cotton blend jacket. My leather bombers seemed too edgy, and I love my Evereve Camp Jacket, but it’s a little lighter weight and more summery.

From there, I added gold hoops and a triple chain 3-tone necklace. I don’t usually wear necklaces with crewneck tops, but lately I’ve started adding a shorter one, and I kind of like it.
My final addition was a skinny black belt, which I think adds a nice finishing touch, although I might like a wider belt with this. I wish I’d tried it to see. And I carried a black tote.

I did some try-ons when I got home, and then I ended up throwing on this simple outfit to work from home for the rest of the day. I had a Zoom meeting, so I wanted my top half to look polished, and this top has a nice gold button detail on the shoulders.

I have no pictures of the next day, and I know I wore something cute because I had friends over. I guess I didn’t get pictures. Anyway! That brings us to last Thursday, and Paul and I made a spontaneous decision to leave a day early for Nashville to get ahead of the storm. I packed quickly and threw on this outfit.
Unfortunately, I can’t link my rain coat because it’s at least six years old, and I know that because I wore it in March of 2018 — the first time Paul and I went to Nashville together. I had been there multiple times for various reasons, and I knew he’d love it, so we planned a couples’ getaway. I never imagined we’d end up with a child at college there six years later.
ANYWHO! I still rely on this coat for rainy days when I want to look chic and put together. That’s a good investment!

When we arrived at our hotel later that night, I shed my raincoat and switched from sneakers into slides to go down to the bar for a drink and a bite to eat.

The next day was rainy and chilly, and I was glad I brought this long sleeve sweatshirt. We met our daughter for breakfast, and then she had classes, so we went down to Broadway for some live music. After that, we met up again for dinner, and I didn’t change.

It was a little bit warmer the next day, and not raining quite as hard, so I wore a short sleeve sweater with the same jeans and sneakers to go to the mall. I did bring my coat, but I left it in the car.

We went to church on Sunday morning, and I brought this AG stripe dress. The rain seemed to have stopped, so I brought this beige twill crop jacket instead of my rain coat.

When we got back to our hotel that afternoon, were locked out of our room because the battery was dead or something like that. After the security team figured it out and we got back to our room, I went straight to my side of the bed and took a nap. It was such a gloomy, rainy day, and it felt really good to rest.
Later on, after I got up, I changed into jeans and a t-shirt to go meet our daughter for ice cream.

I wore this outfit to fly home on Monday. And yes, as good as they are, I was really tired of these jeans. I will definitely be giving them a rest of a while!

Yesterday, I had Bible Study and I pulled together this outfit with my military green twill jacket and dark wash flare leg jeans. I love the combination of brown footwear with green and dark denim, so I looked in my closet and decided on these

I went to a high school hockey game last night, and I pulled out this cozy hoodie and paired it with crop bootcut jeans. I wanted to be cute and wear my red sneakers, but I just felt like my feet were going to be arriving before I did…

So, I ended up back in my VEJAs with black accents. This may be plain, but it felt far more authentic.

And that’s a wrap! I hope this post gives you some casual outfit inspiration for this transition season. I’m still figuring out with the current styles, but it’s fun to play around with new silhouettes and proportions.

“my feet were going to be arriving before I did…” LOL! Thanks for the early morning laugh! Fabulous outfits!
What is the length of the green Michael Stars tee?
Probably around 22″.
I just may need those Pistola jeans. I have never tried that brand before, but they are so cute on you !
I personally think the red sneakers look great with your outfit! I think they look very current!
Thanks, they are, but I just feel so conspicuous in them. Maybe with a different top. I was wishing I’d kept the gray hoodie too. I kept the black but i think the grey with the light wash jeans and red shoes might be really cute together, or something with navy on the top, not such a stark black.
I love the red sneakers, too. I think I would go with the grey hoodie. I just bought a pair of bright blue Golas and wore them last night to a grandkids’ baseball game with a grey hoodie and jeans.
Yeah, I don’t know why, but I think the more muted palette might be a little easier on the eyes. I’ll try it.
Did they come with red laces? I would try that. I always feel self-conscious in new shoes. After they are worn and have a little patina, whatever I throw on always feels more intentional and comfortable.
They did, I thought I preferred the white, but maybe I should try the red.
I’ve had my eye on the Rolyn bum bag for a while. I attend lots of casual events for/with grandchildren, and while I love my nylon Baggu sling bag, sometimes I want something one step up. Is it big enough for sunglasses and a cell phone? That, and lip balm is about all I ever need. Applepay and a car that starts with my phone instead of a key have set me free!
Yes, that’s about all that fits tho.
Your comment gave me a laugh…. I personally love the red tennis shoes – then again, I’m one of those people that my shoes are always a point of conversation.
They’re cute and I like them, just something felt off about this outfit.
I’m glad to see you too default to crop straight type jeans and sneakers. I feel I’ve been doing that most days. Good outfits.
PS I laughed out loud what you said about the red sneakers. lol
117 degrees here in Palm Springs yesterday!! I cant wait for the days when I can wear a pair of jeans and jacket, these outfit are all great, and like everyone I love the red shoes, but think you are right about a little colored top.
Happy hump day.
117 is insane! I cannot imagine.
I laughed out loud at your comment about feeling more productive in pants that button and zip! I never thought of it that way before, but now that you mention it, I do tend to be more lazy when I’m wearing sweatpants! Going to see if I can use that as a subconscious mental hack to push myself into productive mode! Thanks for the observation!
That black & white dress looks so great on you! And I also think the outfit with the red sneakers looks really fun but I totally get what you’re saying about your feet arriving first. I think that is the reason I put bright sneakers in my cart over and over only to cave and get another neutral. I feel like I’d end up with one outfit that is perfect with them and never wear them with anything else! Also, I think you have just about convinced me to get the rust sweatshirt from Evereve. It really does check all the boxes.
I like the red sneakers too ! Since you have been to Nashville so many times , where do you like to stay? We have never been but are considering for our next getaway. Any recommendations for fun? Thanks !
The Westin and JW Marriott are probably my 2 favorites, very nice hotels just south of Broadway, and close enough to walk, but not as loud as the hotels that are closer to the action. The Noelle is really cool, in a historic building just a block north of Broadway, very convenient, but it backs up to Printer’s Alley, and it can be loud at night. Most recently we stayed at the W and I loved it. Great vibe, nice bar area, and it’s in The Gulch, so really good restaurants and shopping nearby, but we did end up using Uber more than usual because it’s a longer walk to Broadway. If you want a little more budget-friendly, the Sheraton is north of Broadway is pretty nice too and not as pricey a the others I just mentioned. Also, the Omni is really nice, connected to the Country Music Hall of Fame, but I haven’t stayed there in years because it’s not part of Marriott and I try to keep to Marriott hotels to earn and use points. Oh, and the Moxy isn’t bad for a little lower price, but not as many amenities and tiny rooms. Cool vibe tho.
THANKS Jo-lynne,
I’ve been following you for years. I usually don’t join in the conversation, but feel the need to this time.
We live in Sarasota Florida and we just got done with Helene, NOW we are waiting for MILTON! No damage to our home during Helen, but several friends did have damage and have to remove everything from their home.
Anyone who could keep all of us in their prayers we sure would appreciate it!!! I also follow Cindy who I’m aware you know well.
Jo
Hi, Jo. I am keeping you all in my prayers. I can’t imagine how it must feel to be recovering from one natural disaster and anticipating another so soon.
Thanks Jo-Lynne for the prayers. We’re going to need it.
Those are some great jackets.
