Hey guys! I was so super excited to get my outfit pictures from Florida yesterday! I’ve been dying to see how they turned out.
Working with a new photographer is always interesting, but Martina immediately set me at ease and made me feel comfortable. We had a lot of fun, and she knows Vero Beach inside and out so she took me around to some of the most gorgeous locations. If you’re ever in the area and need a photographer (she mostly does families and events) be sure to look her up! (And big thanks to Susan for recommending her to me!)
We shot 5 outfits, so I’ll be rolling them out over the next couple of weeks, but the first is a fun casual look with a denim skirt and some colorful accessories.
You’ve seen these earrings once before, but I thought they were the perfect pop of color to liven up this neutral outfit. They look like they could be heavy, but they’re not. They’re actually extremely lightweight and comfortable to wear.
I came across this denim skirt on the Saks Off Fifth website, and I’m happy to report that it’s still available. I don’t wear a lot of skirts, but this one is really stretchy and comfortable, and it’s a nice alternative to the jean shorts I normally wear in warmer weather.
Even on a discount, this skirt on the spendy side, so I linked up a bunch of other options at the end of the post. This one has an 18″ length, and I feel like it’s about as short as I’d go. Of course, everyone has a different comfort level, but hopefully that gives you something of a guideline if you’re comparing denim skirts.
For size reference, I’m wearing a 30, which is one or two sizes larger than my normal jeans size, so if you order one, I definitely recommend sizing up.
Also, how fun are these slides?
They look great with denim and other neutrals, and while they may not look it, they’re actually quite comfortable. They stay on my feet when I walk, which is no small feat… haha, see what I did there? Sometimes slides can be hard to walk in when you have narrow feet, but these work.
Every blogger seems to have a version of this round straw bag, so I tried to order one that was a little different, but my order got canceled. These straw bags are so cute for summer, but they don’t hold a lot. That’s the only drawback. Mine sold out, but this one is similar.
Also, I meant to wear my Alex and Ani bangles on my right arm. Somehow in the rush to get down to meet Martina on time, I forgot.
This tee is from Madewell, and I wore it almost every day I was in Florida. It’s perfect for layering under a cardigan, and it also looks nice on its own with jeans or shorts (or a denim skirt, obviously!) I like that the armholes aren’t too deep so my bra doesn’t usually show.
It’s a good price at under $20, and it also comes in black and grey as well as a navy stripe. For size reference, I have the medium.
I wore this outfit out to dinner one night when we were down there, and I threw this cardigan on top because it was a rainy night and I was afraid I’d be cold in the restaurant. I wish I’d thought to shoot a few pictures wearing it with Martina, but I didn’t think about it a the time. It was 85 degrees and sunny when I put this outfit on, and a cardigan was the last thing on my mind! If you’re curious, you can see how that looks all put together in this post.
I love my shorts in the summertime, but sometimes you want to level up your look just a bit while still keeping it super casual. A denim skirt is a great option for that!

I love a denim skirt, and I’ve had a version of one for the past 10 years. I think they are a great skirt that you can even wear sneakers with and still look stylish!! Besides, they have spandex now—what could be better??
Your shoes are adorable. I do have trouble walking fast and far in these kinds of shoes, but for a night out, I could totally see me wearing them!!
XOXO

Yeah, they’re not all day walking shoes, but they’re fun for an event here and there. Converse would also be great with this – maybe even a colored pair.
Cute outfit! You look great!
Thank you! xo
You are a fabulous model! I love the pop of color in the earrings and the shoes. I can’t wait to see the other pictures from FL. Since I don’t wear shorts too often, I should look for a denim skirt. I had a denim skirt that I donated because I decided the built-in short isn’t that comfortable. Have an awesome day!
Yeah, that sounds like a lot of material – especially for Georgia summers!
I have a denim skirt I purchased from The Loft last summer. I haven’t worn it much because I’m not sure how to pair it with tops and shoes. Seeing your photos today helped. Would you include it in future photos wearing different tops and shoes, need more ideas, that’s why I follow your blog daily 🙂 Thanks for all the time and work you put into your outfits, it really helps those of us that are challenged, ha!
I’ll try. I usually resort to a t-shirt and sandals or Converse. It’s hard with shirts so long these days. I’m glad shorter tops are coming back in.
Adorable! Love the denim skirt. I haven’t worn one for a long time but may need to find one! The shoes are amazing. So cute as always!
Thank you! Yeah, sometimes I get tired of them and go a few years without one and then I find a new one I like. 🙂
Cute outfit Jo-Lynne! I need to get a denim skirt. Can’t wait to see the rest of your photos – looks so beautiful there!

Thanks, Diana!
What a fun tropical background! And cute outfit. I have a denim skirt that I tend to forget about until I go on vacation. I really need to add it to my regular summer wardrobe! And thanks for the info on the ON white jeans. I may need to order some.
They are really good.
Ha ha – not sure why my name is “Last nda” on my first comment! Crazy autocorrect! I looked at the jeans online and they don’t have petite, but I may order anyway and if they fit, I’ll have them hemmed.
Love this on you, Jo-Lynne! You look fantastic and the photos are just beautiful.
Thanks, Holli! xo
That is such a cute outfit! I just located a Madewell store 10 minutes from my house here in San Diego. I am on my way to buy that Tank Top! I never realized how accessories could make the Jean skirt outfit look so put together. Thank you Jo Lynne. You are really a Professional and sort of like my “Personal Shopper”!
Awww, thanks! I hope so! 🙂
I do wonder about the length of skirts sometimes, i find my self wearing knee leggings under a lot of my skirts cause my God daughter age 9, is always telling me the skirt is too short. And to me the skirts are not to short there about the same length as the one you have on. So for a 59 year old that is fit, is this to short.
I would think so! 🙂
Stella I disagree! I think you can absolutely wear a skirt like this! It’s not like we’re talking about a mini skirt here, it’s practically knee length. I say go for it! (I might would avoid the minis tho). Also if it’s a tad bit shorter than you prefer, just wear it a little lower on your hips. After all, age is just a number so have fun!
Oh no. I meant I don’t think you’re too old. I didn’t realize how my response sounded till I saw Megan’s comment. I didn’t phrase it correctly. I totally think this length is fine if you’re comfortable with it. 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks for the replies i do like the length of the skirt and I am comfortable with it, I just guess my Goddaughter thinks I am old 🙂 after all age is just a number
How old is she?
My Goddaughter is 9 years old
Ah yes. That is probably it. When she gets to be 14 or 15, she’ll be a good source of advice. I trust my 15 y/o to give me advice, but my 12 y/o isn’t quite there yet. 🙂
You look beautiful!
Thank you! xo
Nice photo shoot😎… the outfit looks cool and comfy. I purchased two denim skirts Last year from Tommy Hilfiger a white denim and olive green. They are comfy and a nice change from shorts which are hard to get at a good length. Looking forward to your other a Florida pics.
Yes, they are. The olive green would be nice to have. I had an olive green cargo pencil skirt I wore for YEARS. It got so faded, I finally had to ditch it. LOL!
So how did the ON skinnies do? Where they a total bag fest?
They are awesome! I shared all about them in my email newsletter this morning. Do you subscribe? I often share extras that don’t make it to the blog: https://mailchi.mp/61ce59bd5150/what-i-wore-weekend-sale-update-2222365
Love your outfit! What is your take on skorts? I have seen several in catalogs, but nowhere else.
I don’t see them much either, but I think they can be a good option. Where have you seen them?
I have seen skorts in catalogs from North Style and Serengeti. These catalogs are generally a different style of clothing from what you wear, but I usually find something I like in them.
I have been following you for awhile now and I would like to see you add more options besides jeans (skirts) and tee’s. It is hard to look the part in our 40’s and some of these outfits look to “teen” for me. Thanks!
Love the look!
Bright and cheerful!
Got to find the colorful slides!
Your makeup is beautiful…
for hot Florida!!
This is a really nice casual look. In the past I’ve had a hard time with denim skirts. They tend to ride up on my waist and I feel like it’s digging into my ribs. I guess because I’m pretty long waisted??? Anyway, looks very nice on you.
So glad you hooked up with Martina. Looking forward to the rest of the photos! I want to see if I can identify the locations. 😊
I love a denim skirt. I have three of them for summer, one in white and two denim washes. Mine are NYDJ and are so comfortable. Such pretty pictures!
I own the Loft skirt with the split front, and I love it. It’s gently distressed. It’s not a tight pencil style; it has a little bit of an A line shape. I love a denim skirt for spring and summer. Yours is very cute!
Good to know!
I really like this outfit and am hoping Nordstrom restocks the Release Hem denim skirt. So cute! Also, the Urban bag is so fun!
LOVE those earrings and slides. So pretty!
Yeah, I just so happened to see them laying together on the bed as I was packing, and it clicked that I should wear them together!
HAPPY Friday!
Love this casual look with the light wash denim skirt, cute slides and pops of color with those darling earrings. i bought a denim skirt from Loft that took me about a year to discover, as i wanted a soft denim and one that buttons down the front. once you find one you love, its great to wear!

Thanks, Jess! Is that skirt from this year. They have one that buttons down the front. I might try it. I like that it’s darker and slightly longer.
Love the Denim! It suits your skin tone well…
