Fall Color Crush: Martini Olive

With every new season comes a new set of trending colors, and this fall we are seeing a mix of bold and bright hues along with some familiar neutrals and muted tones as well. I thought it would be fun to focus in on a few of my favorite trending colors for fall and do some product roundups for you.

I was happy to see olive green, one of my favorite colors to wear this time of year (and all times of year, really) listed in the Pantone Fashion Color Trend Report for Autumn/Winter 2022/2023.

one // two // three // four // five // six // seven // eight // nine // ten // eleven // twelve // thirteen // fourteen // fifteen

They’re calling this Martini Olive, to be exact, and here’s how they describe it:

Martini Olive, a fruit inspired green tone with a touch of brine.

Olive pretty much acts as a neutral, so it looks good with just about any other color, but I love pairing it with shades of black and grey as well as every shade of denim. It also contrasts nicely with all shades of pink and orange, including coral and rust.

It’s also a really nice complement to lavender and deep plum, and also burgundy. Okay, so there is hardly anything you cannot pair with olive! I just usually stay away from blues and greens. (With the obvious denim exception.)

I usually go for taupe or cognac colored shoes when I’m wearing olive, depending on if the other colors in my outfit are warm or cool, or black shoes always work.

All that to say, if you also like wearing olive, this season will provide plenty of opportunities for you to add a piece or two to your wardrobe. I rounded up some of my favorites below.

  1. I love this color for fall and have many pieces in this color! I actually just bought a short moto style jacket ( thicker knit material) to wear with jeans and a tee! I think that’s 3 in this color for jackets now 🙈!

  2. I just love this olive color! Hope the routine works out for you, sounds like a winner! Looking forward to the post on a capsule wardrobe. Ever since you mentioned switching out your summer clothes and liking the somewhat empty closet look, it got me to thinking about a capsule wardrobe. Of course I’d like 4 seasonal ones! Realistically, with my stage of life and lifestyle, I need so little clothes, yet I have a closet full! Or 3 closets full…..
I’ve been pretty good at purging so far this year, but REALLY need some inspiration to continue, maybe the capsule wardrobe will get me going again!!

    1. I’ve been devouring the Everyday Style School podcasts (google it, if you’re interested. they’re great!) and one thing Jen said recently that really hit home for me was, there is a difference between your closet and your wardrobe. You may have TONS of clothes in your closet, but your wardrobe is the clothes you actually wear. She is more articulate than that, but it made me think of all of my readers who say they have so many clothes and don’t wear half of them. I always try to keep only the clothes that fit and I’m actually wearing that season in my closet, and I think that helps so much with putting outfits together and getting dressed without overwhelm. I wish more people would try it! 🙂 🙂

  3. I have found that once you get used to exercising earlier, you do adjust and then love that time. It feels good to have it done, and it gives you energy for the day. And then you have the rest of the day to accomplish things!

I love olive green, but not near my face, unless it’s got more blue undertones than yellow. I love my Paige Mayslies, and I have a couple other pants, plus a Bomber jacket.

  4. I am loving this color for fall! I have to second you on the working out in the morning. It’s the first thing I do when I wake up and get out of bed. If I do that it doesn’t give me anytime to talk myself out of it or get distracted with all the other things I have to do for the day! I am way more productive during the day and the healthy endorphins really help set the mood for the day! However, 4:30 am is awfully dark this time of year!! 🙁

  5. Good luck with your new morning routine! I’ve learned that I suffer certain consequences if I don’t stick with my morning routine. Okay, now that you’ve opened the can of worms with what I call olive green, I’d really appreciate you sharing pictures of various colored tops with Martini Olive pants. I am one of those that need to keep this color below my waist or in my handbag or shoes. I have pants, shoes, and a handbag in this color. HELP!

  6. This is one of my favorite colors. I pair it with all of the colors mentioned above except I have tried it with lavender. I do love to pair olive green with navy. There are so many combinations.

  7. Thanks for this post as I love olive green and bought some pieces last fall! Living the Madden bag and trying to convince myself that I love it as much as the suede olive Khaite I’ve been eyeing! I agree on exercise before coffee – the routine is a winner!

  8. You said you stay away from blues with olive. I like to wear navy with olive. I think it looks really good. This particular olive…. Martini olive I won’t be able to wear. Don’t care for it either. Great idea getting up and doing your excercise first. I’m the same way….. if I wait it’s harder to do later. I too need to get moving more. When the weather turns bad it’s harder to get outside. Have a good day.

    1. Yeah, I was thinking more like turquoise and aqua and brighter blues. I do like navy with olive.

And we finally got a treadmill last spring so I can no longer use the weather as an excuse. I’m especially glad we have it now that I’m planning to exercise earlier.

  9. I have been working out first thing in the morning, usually by 6am, for EVER and find that on the days I don’t get a workout in I feel sluggish all day, even after my caffeine of choice for the day. It won’t take long before you get used to it. And loving the olive green trend 🙂

  10. I love this color, and always have! I have a super casual hoodie that I just added this year for fall and last year I bought a wool pea coat in this color. But my absolute favorite add is this bomber jacket! It’s the same one Jo-Lynne featured in the pink color a while back, but I’ve been stalking it in the olive color for a few weeks. It has been $100 and *just* went to $59.99 this week. It arrived today and is gorgeous! (Size up—I’m a small and the medium fits perfectly)

  11. I just returned from Italy, and olive is definitely THE color on trend (of course black is the iconic European color). Lots of wide legged trousers as well.
