Late Winter Try-On Haul: Evereve & Nordstrom

I’m itching for spring, but we’ve been having 25-degree mornings here in Philly, so today’s try-on haul is all over the map. It’s a little shorter than some because I haven’t been home much over the past week or so to take pictures, but I wanted to go ahead and post what I have because next week we’re diving into spring fashion!

SIZING NOTES: I’m 5’5″ and I usually wear a small in tops and dresses, a 29 in jeans, and a size 8 shoe. Gifted items are indicated by c/o; everything else I purchased myself.

Late Winter Try-On Haul: Evereve & Nordstrom

These are a few new arrivals I’ve tried lately from Evereve and Nordstrom. First up, this stripe thermal henley by Sundry from Evereve.

Sundry Stripe Thermal Henley

at Evereve (2) // Evereve denim (29) // Sorel sneakers (8.5)

Sundry is like French girl chic meets Southern California lifestyle; and they’re known for color, quality, and seriously soft fabrics.

This henley style top in the pink waffle knit with a striped placket pairs perfectly with blue, white, or black denim for so many casual outfit possibilities.

It’s 22 1/2″ long with a straight hemline and an easy fit, perfect for front-tucking into your favorite high-rise denim or leaving out for a more relaxed vibe.

I ordered the size 2, which equals a medium, but I think I could have probably gone with my usual size small (or the Sundry size 1.)

VERDICT: Deciding. I ordered the size 1 to compare, so I’ll keep you posted!

Ever Straight Cuffed

at Evereve (29) // Sundry top (2) // Sorel sneakers (8.5)

These jeans were love at first sight when I saw them on the Evereve website, and I was so sad to discover that they’re way too long for me. They should be more of a cropped fit, as shown on the model. Otherwise, they are super soft and comfortable, and they have a really nice wash.

I have to admit, I wasn’t very hopeful that the Evereve brand denim would measure up to my high standards, but I actually like them a lot. They have a nice fit and feel, and the straight leg silhouette with wide cuff is right on trend. Considering the reasonable price point, I would say they’re a very good value.

They definitely look better on me with clogs, as shown below, than they do with the sneakers, but that’s because I’m 5’5″. They will be perfect for the taller girls among us. The cuff is stitched, so you can’t really play around with it much, unless you want to cut them, which I’m not willing to do.

VERDICT:Since they’re very stretchy and I have a little bit of wiggle room in this size 29, so I ordered the 28 to compare. I doubt that will change the length enough to make them work for me, but it’s worth a try!

Treasure & Bond V-Neck Sweater

at Nordstrom (S) // rag & bone denim (29) // Kork Ease clogs (8)

This is a lightweight sweater with a flattering v-neckline and elbow-length sleeves. It could be a nice work wear piece, but I also love how it pairs with denim for an easy weekend look.

I also tried it front-tucked, but I don’t think this does much for it. It’s 23 1/2″ long, so it works fine left out.

There isn’t anything super special about this top, but it’s a nice basic, and I feel like the fit is flattering and versatile for layering. It also comes in a dark grey charcoal heather.

VERDICT: Keeping for now. I’ll leave the tags on, since I can’t wear it for a while, but I think it will be a nice piece to have in my spring/summer wardrobe.

rag & bone Peyton High Waist Ankle Bootcut Jeans (Sienna)

at Nordstrom (29) // at Bloomies (29) // at Saks (29) // Treasure & Bond sweater (S) // Kork Ease clogs (8)

As much as I love light wash denim, especially in spring and summer, these dark wash kick flares are a really nice alternative. They have a 26 1/2″ inseam; 16″ leg opening; 10 1/2″ front rise.

The fit is flattering, and they’re very comfortable. I just wish the rear pockets weren’t quite so large.

VERDICT: I’m thinking I’ll hold onto these for a while and try them with more outfits. The rear pockets may not need to be a deal breaker.

Michael Stars Maren Pullover

at Evereve (S) // KUT from the Kloth denim (8) // Sorel sneakers (8.5)

Now, this top, I love! It’s super soft inside and feels good against the skin, and that side stripe detail is subtle, but really fun.

I also love the 22″ length with the banded waistband and relaxed fit, and I especially appreciate the generous sleeve length and traditional shoulder seams.

It’s cute with the utility jeans, but I wanted to also try it with a wider leg, so I pulled out these old Citizens Isola kick flares. They have a 26.5″ inseam, 11.25″ rise, 16.5″ leg opening; and I’ve always liked the medium blue wash.

I don’t wear them a ton, but I keep them in my closet because every once in a while, they’re exactly what I need.

I also swapped the Sorel sneakers for my VEJA Esplar in Sable, because I like how the off-white suede logo relates to the top, and they also have a lower profile, which I prefer with the wider leg jeans.

I wasn’t sure I was totally feeling that look, though, so I decided to try the top with a full length flare.

These are the MOTHER Weekender, my favorites flares for casual looks, and they’re on sale! They have a 30 1/2″ inseam; 20″ leg opening; 9 1/2″ front rise. That’s according to the Nordstrom website, but I am sure the rise is higher than that.

Anyway! I like these jeans best with a higher profile sneaker to keep them off the floor and also to balance the width of the leg opening. I usually wear them with my P449 Johns, as seen here, or my LØCI logo sneakers.

VERDICT: Definitely keeping this top! I’ve already worn the outfit above.

Varley Horton Side Zip Midlayer

at Evereve (S) // KUT from the Kloth denim (8) // Sorel sneakers (8.5)

This top may not look like much, but it’s super soft and cozy, and I love the relaxed fit and the side zipper detail. I also really like the ecru color, for a change. It looks really good with the Sorel sneakers.

VERDICT: It’s pricey and rather plain, so I’m not sure yet if I’ll keep it or not. I like the Michael Stars pullover better, and I don’t really need both.

Reformation Stripe Recycled Cashmere Blend Sweater

at Nordstrom (S) // PAIGE denim (29) // Vince Oasis (8) // VEJA Esplar (39)

Always a sucker for a stripe, I ordered this Reformation sweater, thinking it might be a nice way to transition to spring. It’s very lightweight, and it has more of a relaxed fit than I usually go for in a sweater, but I kind of like that about it.

(I’m wearing two different sneakers because I was trying to decide which pair I like better with the outfit.)

I feel like the volume in the sweater needs a front tuck, but I always feel like stripes look weird when a top is front tucked. Is it just me?

VERDICT: Deciding… it’s spendy, and I also have the next one to consider.

Rib Organic Cotton & Merino Wool Sweater (Ivory Black Stripe)

at Nordstrom (S) // PAIGE denim (29) // Vince Oasis (8) // VEJA Esplar (39)

I think I prefer the more traditional fit of this sweater, plus the cotton/wool blend might take me further into spring than the cashmere.

Once again, the stripes do weird things when front tucked, but I don’t think this sweater needs a front tuck in the way the other one does.

VERDICT: Keeping this one, for sure!

Sanctuary Reissue Cargo Pant

at Evereve (8) // Nordstrom crewneck (S) // Kork-Ease clogs (8)

I want to love these pants, but they’re a smidge too long. I could shorten them, I guess. I do like the slimmer wide leg fit, if that isn’t a total oxymoron.

Here’s how they look with the top front-tucked, so you can see the waistband. They have a comfortable 10 1/2″ front rise with a 32 1/2″ inseam and a 22″ leg opening.

I feel like they’re really flattering all the way around, and they’re comfortable too. I just need to decide if I should hem them for heels or flats. I mean, they almost don’t need to be shortened to wear with these clogs…

VERDICT: Deciding on these. I also have the KUT from the Kloth Meg Wide Leg in my room to try.

Good American Slit Front Denim Midi Skirt

at Evereve (8) // at Nordstrom (8) // Nordstrom crewneck (S) // Kork-Ease clogs (8)

I really like this denim skirt in theory. I feel like the long, slim silhouette is flattering and not as potentially frumpy as the A-line silhouettes, and the front slit is a nice idea to keep it a little bit sexy, but it’s just a little too high for my comfort level. Especially when sitting down… yeah. Not happening.

It’s too bad because otherwise, it has a really nice fit, and it’s comfortable too.

VERDICT: Sadly, this must go back.

And that’s a wrap for this week! I do have more things to try on, and more is coming in, so I’ll try to get another Try-On Haul up soon!

  1. You are good about giving detailed descriptions and opinions. Any chance you are planning non-denim posts any time soon? Would love to see new posts with non-denim outfits for church and social events, would also enjoy seeing dresses for all occasions. Thanks!

    1. I’ve been ordering some non-denim pants here and there, like this Sanctuary pair. I really don’t wear a lot of pants other than jeans, so it’s hard for me to get excited about ordering them. I did find a good pair of stretchy black trousers, they were in What I Wore Lately, but I should have also put them in here.

  2. I already ordered the reissue cargo pants in denim and love the fabric– a lightweight pair of jeans for summer! However, I accidentally ordered them in the wrong size– they came in S, M, and L, and I didn’t look at the chart. I wish they didn’t have flap pockets. I ended up giving my Kut utility jeans away and getting the Paige because of the flaps. After washing, the pockets sometimes needed to be ironed unless I was very careful how I laid them when drying. But I’m going to give these a try because I love the fabric.

  3. I like the tops except for the loose stripe sweater. I like the second stripe one better. It’s shorter and fits you better too. I love the olive cargos. I would have them shortened. I like wearing casual pants instead of jeans all the time. For me the cuff pants are a no. I think the style is ok for taller long legged women. The same for crop flares. I just look squatty wearing that style. Agree about the skirt. Keeping my eye on the utility jeans for a sale. I have similar ones from Sanctuary I bought 3 years ago. They are so comfortable and I wear them all the time.

  4. Love a try on haul! Thank you! Curious … would a gal need both the hustler you’ve been wearing lately and the Peyton you show here? Are they quite similar? Thank you!

  5. OMG, Jo-Lynne, the rag & bone Peyton jeans make your butt look fab! Maybe your eye needs time to adjust, as you say. I may try them myself because my butt needs all the help it can get!

I like the 2nd stripey sweater; it has better shape, if that makes sense. And I love the Sanctuary Reissue cargos. If you wear them with the clogs, they may not need shortening, plus they may shrink a bit in the wash even if air-dried. They are extremely flattering on you!

Finally, Jo-Lynne, you probably have heard that Evereve is going to carry Mother jeans. I’m intrigued because then I can go to the store and try them on.

    1. I just reread my above comment and I don’t want it to be misunderstood! I said “fab” as in fabulous; it wasn’t a typo where I meant to say “fat.” I hope no one thought that! Jo-Lynne, those jeans are FABULOUS on you!

      1. LOL, I knew what you meant. 🙂 And thank you. I do like the shape and all, but those pockets are HUGE. But I still think they’re flattering so maybe I look better in huge pockets, haha!

  6. I love the green cargo pants on you, I have had zero luck with the wide leg cargo. Every time I try a pair I think I look like I’m trying to be back in high school😬. They look so cute on some people though, oh well I guess I don’t need to try every trend! I do think I may order the striped sweater from Nordstrom:)
Thanks again for another great post!!

    1. I think the trick is to find a wide leg that is cut narrower in the thigh, more of a relaxed flare. I’ve also seen them called slim wide leg, which sounds like an oxymoron, but that’s the idea.

  7. Great post! I am going to pull the trigger on the cotton/merino strip sweater. Looks great! I am dying to hear your thoughts on the Kut from the Kloth Meg wide leg – I have been eyeing them!

  8. I was just thinking I wonder how you decide which sneakers to wear ? Then you post wearing 2 different ones trying to decide LOL. I covet your Vince sneakers – those are on my list.

  9. I love your try-on hauls!! As for the denim skirt, I loved the one you previously wore (Rails, I think) that had a slit up the back instead of the front. I also agree that the cuffed jeans need to be more cropped, to show ankle and more! I have a pair from a few years by Joe’s Jeans, and I love them in the summer with sandals. Be sure not to walk out of the house with two different shoes on, that would be SO easy to do! HAHA!!

  10. I had to snap up the Weekender jeans on sale. The light wash is divine and exactly what I was looking for. Now I am eyeing the Peyton! I’ve been grooving on dark wash lately, and I kind of wish they didn’t have a cut hem to be more versatile, but honestly, I love cut hems. Especially with a dark wash, it kind of makes them more fun. I love the green cargos but at 5’3″ I won’t be able to wear them and I don’t have a tailor. Nor am I very close to a Nordstrom.
I have the Kut Meg wide leg with patch pockets in the front. The wash is on the darker side and I just haven’t figured out how I want to wear them yet. Maybe I’ll like them better in warmer weather. I feel like I don’t want to wear them unless it’s with some kind of heel or platform.

    1. I just saw that Loft now has wide leg cargo pants in olive just like the Sanctuary ones. They come in petite. I’m thinking of ordering them. That’s one reason I like Loft because they carry petite sizes.

  11. Your try in hauls and “What I Wore Lately” are my favorite posts. I truly learn so much.

I have a question for you all. I put on a pair of jean shorts today, a pair I actually found through you Jolynne, and my husband commented for my age, I shouldn’t be wearing jean shorts. I’m 63, and I do think I dress younger for my age. Nothing by any means “way out there”. I’m a very conservative dresser but I do avoid certain things because they are aging and frumpy. What do you all think? Thank you for the advice!

    1. My mom is 69 and lives in FL and wears shorts most days. I would vote that you wear what your are most comfortable in 🙂

  12. I like the cuff jeans with the clogs, but not the sneakers. Too long for the sneakers. I think if they were shorter with the clogs, they may cut off the line of the leg. I think you should keep them for clogs and higher platform sandals. Show us them again with high sandals. I’m trying to decide about the Wit and Wisdom ones with the light wash material that is attached at the bottom like a cuff but no cuff. They are just little too long also, unless wearing higher heel. Plus wondering if they’d feel like they are too noticeable every time I wear them. They looked so cute on Cyndi, I ordered them to try. I don’t like the first striped sweater, but like the 2nd. The first one is too big and I don’t like where the stripes end at the top. I like this type post. Thanks. I know they take a lot of work.

  13. These are great transition options ! I’m really over the winter stuff right now but our winter continues and will for at least another 6 weeks which I know will be longer! We just had a three day storm last weekend and got 85 cm of snow!!! It’s been starting to melt as the last few days have been milder but still a long ways to go!
I love the sanctuary olive pants on you! I would definitely keep and just shorten !

  14. I have been eyeing the Kut from the Cloth Meg wide leg pants. Have you tried them on yet? Which color did you order? Was wondering how they fit, tts? If you could post pics in those soon, that would be great☺️.
    Thank you
