New Years Day Coffee Talk + Sale Roundup

Happy New Year’s Day, and cheers to 2022! Did I say there would be no new post today? Well, I lied. I found some sales I wanted to tell you about, so I’ll combine them with my weekly Coffee Talk. And yes, I know it’s Saturday, not Sunday! Although I did have to look at the calendar to be sure… I seriously could not remember. But this post will replace tomorrow’s, since I expect some of these sale items to sell out by then.

I hope you all had a happy and safe New Year’s Eve. I was in bed by 8PM, no joke. Paul put together a plate of cheese and crackers, and I popped some frozen Beef Franks in a Blanket in the oven while C made chocolate fondue. I also made chicken noodle soup while all of this was going on. R’s still not feeling well, and I wanted to have some in the house for her, and in case anyone else follows suit. We popped open the Prosecco somewhere along the way, and that was our New Year’s Eve in a nutshell.

I had envisioned vegging on the couch with the book D gave me for Christmas, but by the time I was done with the soup, I realized I still ended up standing in the kitchen half the night, and I was feeling very done with 2021. Everyone was doing their own thing, so I went up to my room and watched Netflix on my laptop in bed until I fell asleep.

There are no kissy pictures or boomerangs of clinking glasses on Instagram to usher in the new year, and yet, here we are! It’s another dreary, rainy day here in PA, almost as if 2022 is trying to say, Don’t get your hopes up…

I do feel like we are sort of tiptoeing into this new year, don’t you? If you’re tempted to feel pessimistic, as I am, I think it’s important to remember that life is largely what we make of it. There will always be unexpected events and sicknesses and heartaches, but it’s how we handle those disappointments that really matters. I love how one of my friends put it on Facebook this morning… This year, may we all hold loosely to plans and tightly to Christ! That is what I’m going to strive to do.

I’m at a loss for a smooth segue, so let’s just dive right into the weekend sales. I usually do a weekend sales roundup in my Saturday newsletter, but today I thought I’d put together an easy shopping widget here on the blog with the items that caught my eye.

New Year’s Day Sales

I noticed a few new Nordstrom finds this morning — like the Vince Weekend V-Neck in camel on sale for $154, down from $295… so tempted. I have it in the grey, and I love it. It has such a nice drape, and it’s super soft and luxe. If I hadn’t just bought the Equipment Madalene in camel, I would jump on this. (By the way, I found the Equipment Madalene in rust and blue on sale at Nordstrom Rack.)

Also, this Vince cashmere v-neck is a gorgeous color and has such pretty details. I can’t find a length measurement on it, but it’s called a tunic on the Vince website, so I think it’s a little longer than the Weekend V-Neck.

There’s also some good Zella on sale at Nordstrom, Athleta still has a good sale going on, and LOFT has 40% off new arrivals. I just ordered a few of their sweaters that are featured below. There’s also this black puffer at Backcountry and this Tory Burch tote at Nordstrom. I’m sure there are more good sales out there right now, but these are the ones that caught my eye.

  1. Happy New Year! I agree that life is largely what we make of it. Here’s to a healthy year full of love for everyone. As always thank you for your blog, where we can all have a little happy place to talk fashion and reap the rewards of your hard work! Thank you for that. I snatched that TB tote immediately!!

  2. Happy New. Year! I agree – life is what we make of it (for the most part.) My word for this year (I have never chosen a word before, but a few. bloggers have mentioned it) is gratitude. Gratitude for all that I have, and peace to try to counter my life-long anxiety. A work in progress, but maybe this year…
i hope that this years brings everyone some peace, health, and some way to get back to some sense of normal.

  3. Good morning and Happy New Year! Sounds like your NYE followed suit with 2021. 🥴 We know a lot of people who also canceled plans and stayed in on their couch. We went to an early dinner at a new local Mexican restaurant- SO good! (I’m still thinking about my crab and shrimp enchiladas 🙌🏻). And then we went to see the movie “American Underdog.” Highly recommend! It’s the story of football player Kurt Warner and reinforces the idea of preserverance through life’s challenges and the importance of an unwavering faith in God. But bring your tissues! 😭❤️His story is amazing; he’s the real deal.
I’m ordering the Zella wide leg yoga pants right now (they’re long! 33” inseam -woohoo!) Thanks for the shopping widget.
Enjoy your New Year’s Day! I’m making chicken chili and cornbread and then while watching football later I’ll be doing a bit of work to get ready for Monday morning. I also need to take down our live Christmas tree. My family has begged me not to take it down until tomorrow because they’re all enjoying it (and when a bunch of boys/men actually say this out loud, well that means a lot! Didn’t think they noticed TBH 😄). After a week of cold rainy days, it is sunny and beautiful outside (still a cold 53 degrees but I love it!)
Cheers to 2022! I have a feeling that this year is going to be a good one. I’m thankful for you and your blog space and the wonderful community of women you have here.

  4. Happy New Year!

I grabbed the Vince weekend v-neck. I bought it in a light blue when it was in sale last year and love the fit and quality! Also debating the tote – would be a good spring and summer work bag . . .

  5. Happy New Year to you and your family! Feeling the same in don’t know if should feel pessimistic or optimistic. But we can hope and take 2022 on day by day. Positive thinking is better for the soul! On another note I will e the odd person who asks how you make your chicken noodle soup. I have sickies in my house and grandmother’s always made the soups. I have actually never made it. I think I could just google of course and it seems almost a no brainer. Google will not have the homemade steps that Moms and Grandma’s in our community use. So, if can share, please do.

    1. It’s so easy. I used to have the recipe on my blog but I can’t find it. It must have gotten deleted but I don’t know why. I just took a whole chicken, rinsed it inside and out with cold water in my sink, put it in a 5 qt stockpot, and covered with water. Added a quartered onion, head of garlic, and the tops off a bunch of celery. Boiled that till the chicken was cooked – 2 or 3 hours. Then remove the chicken and add sliced celery and carrots to the chicken broth in the pot. Boil 10-20 min, add egg noodles, boil another 10 min or whatever it needs to be cooked through. You can skim fat off the top if you want. Then add back in the chicken you removed from the bones. Done. Ideally, make more stock with leftover bones and carcass and freeze till you need it.

You can also buy chicken stock and chicken breasts, and follow the Ina Gatten recipe. It’s online.

  6. Happy New Year! I too was in bed early last night….I’m pretty sure I didn’t mention much! Lol. Here’s wishing you and yours the best in 2022! God Bless!

  7. Happy New Year! I went to bed at 12:05. I watched the ball drop on TV but it seemed so anti-climatic, maybe because I think that we will have more of the same in 2022 as we did in 2021. Having said that, 2021 did bring many blessings and I believe that 2022 will be just as generous.

  8. Happy New Year!🎊 I hope you take tomorrow off and rest up for a little bit longer. I so appreciate all your hard work thru out the year. I follow a few bloggers but you are one of my top favorites! 🥰

  9. We have a winter storm warning today so I’m going with ‘in like a lion, out like a lamb’. Hope that’s true and the end of 2022 is a return to normal. It’ll be a new normal for sure, just want some semblance of normal.

  10. Happy New Year! I sure hope that Becca feels better real soon and that no one else in the family end up sick. We are like so many others in the south dealing with usually warm temps and the threat of severe weather. January can be a very active tornado month in the south – Yuck! I really like what your friend wrote about the new year and how we face it! Stay safe!
