Shop with Me: Nordstrom Anniversary Sale #FashionFriday

Happy Friday, friends! Who’s ready for the weekend?!? I’m teaming up with a group of bloggers to give away a $250 Nordstrom gift card, so stay tuned for that at the end of this post!

I hope you’re not sick of hearing about the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale yet because today I’m sharing some of the pictures I took during my marathon #NSale try-on sesh on Wednesday. I always think it’s helpful to see clothing on real people put together in real-life outfits rather than just in those little shopping widgets, and I can share a little more about fit and quality this way. Even if you’re not shopping the sale, maybe this will give you some outfit ideas for fall.

If you missed it yesterday, be sure to check out my complete Guide to the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale!

So here are the outfits I photographed in the dressing room on Wednesday. This isn’t nearly everything I tried on, but these are most of my favorites.

#1 Weekend Casual

Hinge tie front pullover // Sale: $45.90; After Sale: $69.00 // True to size, comfortable, but the tie is a bit of a pain. I didn’t it but now I’m second guessing that decision.

AG raw hem legging ankle jeans // Sale: $149.90; After Sale: $225.00 // The gold standard when it comes to denim, AG are hands down my favorite jeans, and the legging ankle is my favorite style. They have a 8″ front rise, 10″ leg opening, and a 28″ inseam. Fit like a dream, don’t stretch out, and mold to your body over time. These jeans are like good wine — they get better with age. Haha!

Jeffrey Campbell booties // Sale: $89.90; After Sale: $134.95 // LOVE these taupe almond toe suede booties with 2.5″ stacked heel. Perfect for pairing with ankle jeans this fall and winter. Comfortable, good quality, and a great price. These came home with me.

R Minkoff unlined convertible leather hobo // Sale: $216.90; After Sale: $325.00 // I’m a sucker for a hobo style bag, and I love R Minkoff’s chic edgy style, so this bag was one of the first ones I was drawn to. I love the moss color for fall and the gold studded shoulder strap. This bag came home with me.

#2 Coffee with Girlfriends

Halogen long open cardigan // Sale: $49.90; After Sale: $79.00 // This fine gauge sweater is slimming, casual, and very comfortable. It has just a hint of cashmere in it so it’s nice and soft. It comes in tons of colors, and I really like how it pairs with this graphic tee. For size reference, I’m wearing the small. Some sizes are already sold out, so grab this one while you can.

Pardon My French graphic tee // Sale: $25.90; After Sale: $39.50 // This tee is soft and comfortable and has a nice fit. Even though it has a crew neck, it’s a good length, and it pairs really well with jeans or shorts. Definitely size up with this one.

AG raw hem legging ankle jeans // Sale: $149.90; After Sale: $225.00 (see #1 for my thoughts)

Jeffrey Campbell booties // Sale: $89.90; After Sale: $134.95 (see #1 for my thoughts)

#3 Casual Friday at the Office

Hinge Tie Sleeve Top // Sale: $49.90; After Sale: $79.00 // This top has a flattering fit, nice shaping through the waist, and a modest v-neckline. The fabric is lightweight and comes in 4 different patterns. The tie sleeves are kind of dramatic, but I like them… or I did until Caryl mentioned the logistics of going the bathroom… now I’m worried I’ll end up with one in the toilet. Ha! Guess I’ll have to exercise extra caution. I bought the small; I hope it doesn’t shrink because it is rayon.

AG Farrah High Waist Skinny Jeans  // Sale: $125.90; After Sale: $188.00 // These high waist super skinny jeans have a 10″ rise and 30″ inseam, and I love this deep currant color. They have AG’s fabulous fit and their hefty price tag too. Still, 33% off for AG is pretty much as good as it gets.

An alternative (and the ones I actually purchased) are these 7 For All Mankind raw hem ankle skinny jeans in the merlot. I like the raw hem and the ankle length works better for me than the longer Farrah length, plus these are less than $100. My pale pink jeans are by this brand, and they do tend to stretch out with wear so I ordered the 28.

Tory Burch Claire Ballerina Flats // Sale: $164.90; After Sale: $258.00–$268.00 // I’ve been eyeing the black Tory Burch Minnie travel flats with the gold medallion so when I saw these at the #NSale, I knew they were coming home with me. I debated the gold but ended up with the black because that’s what I really wanted.

I will be totally honest and say I don’t know if these are the quality that her “normal” stuff is. I felt the same way about the ones of hers I bought at last year’s #NSale as well. I still love the styling, but if you’re looking for luxury and comfort, you may do better with Cole Haan. They have some good shoes in this sale, including these ballet flats.

Tory Burch Frida Leather Hobo // Sale: $317.90; After Sale: $478.00 // You know I’m a sucker for Tory Burch handbags, and this one is no different. I didn’t buy any of hers this year, but if you’re in the market for a sleek classic hobo, this one’s for you. It also comes in Light Oak, which is a pale pink.

#4 Shop Till You Drop

Hinge Tie Sleeve Top  // Sale: $49.90; After Sale: $79.00 // Same top as above, different print. I bought this one because I think it will be more versatile than the black and white. I can see wearing this outfit to hit up the mall with friends or to meet my husband for lunch.

AG Raw Hem Legging Ankle Jeans // Sale: $149.90; After Sale: $225.00 (see #1 for my thoughts)

Jeffrey Campbell booties // Sale: $89.90; After Sale: $134.95 (see #1 for my thoughts)

Tory Burch Frida Leather Satchel // Sale: $329.90; After Sale: $498.00 // Another great choice — this satchel is roomy, but there are no exterior pockets to slip your phone into, and it has to be unzipped — just something to consider. Otherwise a fabulous bag with gorgeous pebbled leather. Also comes in black and Light Oak.

#5 Lunch Date Chic

Lush Surplice cold shoulder blouse // Sale: $29.90; After Sale: $45.00 // Cute, but it’s juniors sizing, and the front is quite short. I’d need to wear it with higher waisted jeans. Definitely size up in this one.

AG Raw Hem Legging Ankle Jeans // Sale: $149.90; After Sale: $225.00 (see #1 for my thoughts)

Jeffrey Campbell booties // Sale: $89.90; After Sale: $134.95 (see #1 for my thoughts)

#6 Mom On the Go

Rails Evan Sweater // Sale: $117.90; After Sale: $176.00 // I almost brought this sweater home but at the last minute, I left it. I am so happy to see shorter sweaters out these days, but this one seems a little overpriced for the quality. I do like all the interesting detail in the knit, though, and the color is pretty.

#7 Dinner with Friends

Joie Asymmetrical Sweater Tunic // Sale: $218.90; After Sale: $328.00 // I love Joie quality, but this sweater didn’t really flatter me. I guess that’s a relief because it’s spendy! I do like the combination of ivory sweater, mid-wash jeans, and gold flats tho!

Hudson Colette Step Hem Skinny Jeans // Sale: $129.90; After Sale: $198.00 // No matter how hard I try, I cannot get behind the step hem trend. Otherwise, these jeans have a great fit and a comfortable 9″ front rise, although the pockets are rather large and I feel like they flatten out the rear view.

Tory Burch Claire Ballerina Flats // Sale: $164.90; After Sale: $258.00–$268.00 (See #3 — these are the same shoes but in gold.)

#8 Cozy Chic (I wish I’d had tall black boots in the dressing room to style with this outfit. I don’t care for it with the camel color with this sweater.)

Topshop stripe color block cardigan // Sale: $56.90; After Sale: $85.00 // The sweater is popular among the bloggers so it is selling fast. I love the color combo and the color blocking, but for some reason, it didn’t excite me enough to bring it home with me.

Hudson Colette Step Hem Skinny Jeans // Sale: $129.90; After Sale: $198.00 (see #7 for my thoughts)

Sam Edelman Camellia tall boots // Sale: $149.90; After Sale: $224.95 // I was drawn to these immediately when I walked into the shoe department. I love the stacked cylindrical heel and the sleek silhouette. This caramel color pairs beautifully with white jeans and lighter denim washes, but they also come in grey and black. They’re a decent price for tall suede boots of this quality, and I brought them home with me.

#9 Classy Meets Edgy

Halogen textured leather jacket // Sale: $199.90; After Sale: $299.00 // I love a good moto jacket, and this textured leather is a nice touch. This jacket has a nice shape and isn’t too bulky. For size reference, I’m wearing the medium, but looking at this picture, I wonder if I should try the small. I did purchase this, but I’m keeping the tags on and waiting till this one comes in the mail. I’ll compare and then decide, but I’m thinking I want to go with the cognac if I like the fit because I do have a black moto jacket in a coated cotton that reads like leather.

Caslon rounded v-neck tee // Sale: $17.90; After Sale: $25.00 // This is one of my favorite basic white tees. It’s thin, but not so thin that you need an under layer, and it has a nice shape to it. I size down in this one.

Hudson Colette Step Hem Skinny Jeans // Sale: $129.90; After Sale: $198.00 (see #7 for my thoughts)

#10 Mad About Plaid (I would wear black boots or Converse sneakers with this — not the black ballet flats.)

Rails plaid flannel shirt // Sale: $99.90; After Sale: $148.00 // I’m a huge fan of Rails plaid flannels… it’s actually the only plaid flannel I own! These are so soft and thin and comfy, but yes, $$$ – this is definitely the best time to snap one up! You’ll want to size up. I’m wearing the medium, and it just fits.

Paige Hoxton high waist ankle skinnies // Sale: $99.90; After Sale: $189.00 // Paige makes a great pair of jeans, and these are a nice classic dark wash with a comfortable high rise that holds everything in check. Also, they are 50% off!!!!! Currently full stocked, but I don’t think they’ll last till the end of the sale.

Tory Burch Claire Ballerina Flats // Sale: $164.90; After Sale: $258.00–$268.00

#11 Cozy Dinner Party with Friends

Topshop lattice back sweater // Sale: $42.90; After Sale: $65.00 // I LOVED this sweater, but the back showed my bra strap – if that’s not a deal breaker for you, it is super cute on and a great price. You can probably size down. Also comes in mustard.

Paige Hoxton high waist ankle skinnies // Sale: $99.90; After Sale: $189.00 (see #10 for my thoughts)

Sam Edelman Camellia tall boots // Sale: $149.90; After Sale: $224.95 (see #8 for my thoughts)

There is SO much more in the Anniversary Sale, and even more that I bought and didn’t get to feature here, but be sure to poke around because this year really hits the basics — sweaters, booties, handbags, and accessories that you can buy now at a deep discount and wear all season long! (All of my picks are in THIS POST, which I am still updating as I have more sizing notes and things to add.)

#NSale Beauty Buys

Okay, I am totally tacking this on here, but I never got around to looking at the beauty products available on the sale till this morning, and I wanted to let you know that the T3 hairdryer that I have is part of the sale!!! If you’re in the market for a high quality hair dryer, this is amazing. I actually bring it with me when I travel, so I just ordered a travel sized one before the #NSale started.

This day to night lip set is pricey, but I hear great things, and I love the color options. It would also make a lovely gift for someone if you need something like that.

I’m also tempted by this MAC Nice ‘n Spicy lip kit.

Oh, and this is the makeup brush cleaning mat I have, and for the #NSale, it comes with a Kabuki brush. Or there is this Sigma brush set too. I love my Sigma brushes. I only have two, but they’re fantastic.

There are a few Clarisonic products in the sale as well and a ton of other great products that you can peruse, but these are the ones that stuck out to me.

  1. So many great things! I loved so many pieces you featured…I ordered quite a few of them (pretty much all of outfit #2, the topshop cardi, free people top). I reeeally wanted several more but couldn’t pull the trigger. I actually ordered a ton, and as much as I hate to be one of those types, I plan to scale it down once it arrives. I learned pretty quickly last year not to hesitate (act now, mull over it later, haha). I’m just hoping my strategy doesn’t backfire and I love and want to keep everything!!

I heard about the 10x points last night and got super excited until I remembered how much I plan to return. Either way, very nice of them to offer this!

  2. You must be exhausted but thanks for covering this sale so well! I’m afraid that everyone will be dressed identically this Fall because all the bloggers have posted the EXACT same items!

  3. I love your “Shop with Me: Nordstrom” posts! The website is so large, I would never be able to find such cute and trendy things without your help!

Thanks for going to all the trouble for us!

  4. Amazing job!!! Thank you so very much for doung this type of post! Just love them! My fav outfits are #1 & #2, and that’s because I work from home. Just wish they made ankle booties in extra wide sizes but I guess you can’t have everything!!

    Job well done!!

  5. I love your picks Jo-Lynne and I especially love how you told us what you would wear each outfit combination for! That is so helpful!!! Thanks for your hard work! xo

  6. W-O-W! Just watching you on Instastories made this granny sweat! It IS hard work trying clothing on not to mention documenting it! Thank you for all the ideas! Although I’m not planning on making any purchases from the sale (I was putting clean clothes away yesterday & thought I’ve got waay too much) I like getting outfit ideas! Back in the day I worked in an office parttime & HAD to dress up. My lifestyle now just doesn’t require a lot of clothing, but I like to freshen things up a bit seasonally. I’ll be looking for a forest green hoodie & burgandy jeans for the fall. My big splurge would be a Tory Burch bag, so we’ll see! Enjoy your weekend reconnecting for your firstborn! And get some rest after all that work you did for the N sale! ????????????

  7. Thank you so much!! It is so great to see some items on you and I bought the olive hobo and so glad I did after seeing you with it!….swoon. The website was crazy but I got up early and got most of my shopping done before the issues began. However, I did place 3 more orders later that I had issues with but well worth if the extra points we will all be getting!!! How awesome is the blow dryer? Does is really save a lot of time and how long is the cord? Thanks again for all your hard work.:)

    1. It has a loooong cord. I love it. I’m not sure how much time it saves, I haven’t tried a drugstore quality dryer in years. (I had a good one I bought at my salon before this.) I also have super thin hair, but it definitely gets the job done quickly. I also felt like it was smoother and not as frizzy when I started using a quality dryer.

  8. Thanks for all your posts about this sale-it is very helpful when you are shopping from your sofa! I live in the Atlanta area and have three Nordstrom’s not that far away but thanks to your details I am just ordering from home. I was curious about the 10x reward points. Is that automatic? I did not use a triple points day so hoping that the 10x points comes through for my large order! Again, I appreciate all your hard work because shopping and trying on clothes is a chore!

  9. 10x points is amazing! Thanks for the heads up! Got my 4 kids outfitted with new sneakers/jeans/etc yesterday, and husband and I are going tonight to shop for ourselves! Those rewards make a big difference!

  10. I don’t often comment, even though I am one of your faithful followers and look forward to your daily posts, however, I have to say how much I enjoyed your great coverage of the Nordstrom sale. Your advice really helped me to focus on the best items to get for my lifestyle. It was my first time shopping this sale and it would have been so much more overwhelming without your input. I can finally see what all the hype is about. So I just wanted to thank you for all your hard work and tell you how very helpful it was to have you almost like my personal stylist at the sale. I am the Gina that contacted you a while back after retiring to Florida from Connecticut a couple of years ago. Your vacation report from Maine made me remember similar vacations we enjoyed in Maine. Your blog also reminds me of the great winter fashions I am missing living in Florida. (Almost bought those caramel Sam Edelman boots, then I had a reality check!! My cost per wear would be outrageous!! LOL!!)
    Thanks again.

  11. How could you decide? It all looks adorable on you!
Quick question, on the TOPSHOP cardigan (sold out at the moment) what size did you try on?
Thank you thank you thank you! Your posts set the bar so high… Have a great weekend! Love, Amy

  12. There was one tan cardigan sweater that was in your instastories that you didn’t share here and I just wanted to be sure of the sweater there are so many similar ones on sale…

  13. I love these type of posts where you try on the clothes and tell us a little about them & the way they fit. I think I’m the only person that doesn’t like Tory Burch shoes. I’ve bought three pairs over the past few sales and have returned two of them and should have returned the third. I find that they don’t fit my feet well and I find them very uncomfortable. Anyway, thank you for all your time in trying in the clothes and putting together these Nsale posts for us.

    1. Her Minnie flats are so much better. I really think they make shoes just for this sale and they’re not up to her typical quality. The two I got last year aren’t terribly comfortable. I gave one pair away and kept the suede b/c I love those and they’re not uncomfortable, but just not as good as they should be for the brand and the price.

  14. When I first scrolled down the screen and saw the Joie Asymmetrical Sweater, I immediately loved it and thought WOW she looks really pretty in that. I was shocked when you said it didn’t flatter you. Wha? I thought it was slimming and very feminine and quite pretty. In fact, it was 100% going in my cart until I saw the price. :0(

    1. I actually kind of like it in that picture, but in person, it sort of hung funny, it didn’t drape in a pretty way. Plus it’s thin and you can kind of see through it.

  15. I love these posts! I was excited to see the step hem jeans lol…but I didn’t order yet since I need to try on the eleventy billion jeans I did order from your first #nsale post lol! Thanks for the great giveaway!! I have my fingers crossed!

    1. I actually went a size up from what I normally wear in AG, but I’m not sure if it’s the jeans or my extra vacation pounds, lol. They seem to be a little smaller than usual. I got the 29 and I usually wear 28 in AG and 7 for All Mankind. I wear 29 in Paige and a 6 in LOFT jeans, if that helps.

  16. My purchases are starting to come in and I am really torn on a few items, I both the smaller green Rebecca Minkoff bag and I am second second guess that I should get the larger? Help? Can you style the larger bag soon? Maybe just on Instagram? I love the smaller bag but feel I won’t use it much if it doesn’t fit everything…and for the money if i buy a bag I wanna use it a lot!

    1. I agree – I love that smaller green bag but the reason I didn’t get it is b/c it doesn’t hold enough. The larger one is really pretty. The leather is like butter. 🙂 I will definitely style it soon!

      1. I have two Rebecca Minkoff bags currently, one light grey Fiona Bucket that I use everyday in the spring/summer months and a deep burgundy (again Fiona Bucket) that I use in the winter so I am familiar with the great quality of her bags, but I am in love with this green color! The thing I hesitate about now is that the smaller one is sold out…decisions, decisions!

  17. I am so glad that you included this post today, because I missed it when it on the first go around.  When wearing a long cardigan, how do you keep them from conforming to the shape of your backside, when you sit?  I do have a fuller bottom, and when I have worn a long cardigan, it wanted to cup under back there and just not hang right.  Maybe like the shorter length tops, the long sweaters are something I don’t need to have in my closet.  I am definitely interested in the makeup brush cleaning set, and plan on checking it out today.  And I need a blush brush so that I don’t have to keep using the same one for my coral and pink blush.

    1. Hey Ginger, so this is LAST year’s NSale post. 🙂 Just to let you know. As far as your cardigan question, I think they’re hard. I think it’s partly the material, but also, they just aren’t flattering on everyone (or really, on most people, lol.) My favorite cardigan length for me personally is the ones that are longer than hip but not below the bottom. Like this one — https://shopstyle.it/l/OyyV. That avoids the cupping the bottom issue. 🙂

      1. Thanks!  I think that sweaters that don’t completely cover our backside are more versatile and work with various shoe styles.
