What I Wore Lately Vol. 105

Greetings on this last day of May! It’s time for another What I Wore Lately. This is a bi-weekly feature where I share my daily outfits and a little about where I wore them and how they came together.

Because this is my real life, not everything I’m wearing is currently in stock, and I’m not thinking about variety of styles and price points. It’s just what I actually wear in my daily life, three-day hair and all. I still marvel that anyone cares, but these are consistently among my most popular posts, so here we go!

What I Wore Lately: Two Weeks of Everyday Outfits

SIZING NOTES: I’m 5’5″ and I usually wear a small in tops and dresses, a 29 in jeans, and a size 8 shoe. Gifted items are indicated by c/o; everything else I purchased myself.

This is an easy outfit that I’ve worn many times, and I wore it to a hair appointment on a mild spring day. I’m so excited to see these slides back this year and fully stocked! They have a molded footbed, so they’re very comfortable for slides. I have no issues keeping them on my low profile feet.

sweater: 525 // jeans: MOTHER (29) (more sizes) // sandals: Dolce Vita (8) // earrings: Lagos // diamond pendant

I wore this next look to fly to Nashville for a quick overnight getaway with my daughter. The goal was to wear something on the plane that would allow me to hit the ground running when we arrived, since our hotel room wouldn’t be ready yet. We checked our luggage with the bellhop, and walked over to Broadway for lunch and live music at some of the honky tonk bars.

This jacket is old, but it’s very lightweight, which was nice since it was a warm afternoon.

This is what I wore that night to our music event with Jessica Willis Fisher. It was at a coffee shop, so pretty quiet and casual, but I still wanted to dress up a bit.

I love how the colors in the medallion print blouse pick up the blue from the medium wash denim and the light golden yellow from the sandals. Unfortunately, it sold out, so I linked a similar option.

I ended up wearing the white denim jacket most of the night, and I think it makes a really cute outfit altogether. I should have taken a picture wearing it, but I forgot. This one with my daughter is the only one I have.

This is me the next morning, on my way down to get some coffee and work in the hotel lobby. I always bring comfy clothes when I travel for this purpose.

Evidently Zella just updated the Ava V-Neck Active T-Shirt, which I’ve been buying for years. It was looking like they were discontinuing it, so I was super excited to see this new version fully stocked in a bunch of colors, but then I started reading the reviews… Evidently, it’s not quite the same great tee. I will order one to compare and report back.

We had some rain the next morning, so we walked over to the Country Music Hall of Fame, which is connected to the Omni Nashville Hotel, where we stayed. Half of Nashville must have thought that was a good rainy day destination, as well, because it was mobbed! I’ve been several times, and I’ve never seen it that crowded.

We made our way through fairly quickly, and then we came back up to our room and packed up. We checked our bags with the bellhop once again so we could catch a Lyft over to 12 South for lunch and shopping before heading to the airport for our return flight home. Thankfully I thought to pack a rain jacket!

Also, I just noticed my favorite P448 sneakers have been restocked in a couple of popular sizes. They’re still on sale, too!

The next day, I wore this black and white look to church. I had already put this look together for the blog, so I had the outfit formula fresh in my mind, but I swapped out the ankle flares for full length trouser jeans and the black and white leopard print woven tank for a striped top. I also wore a strappier sandal this time; I like it better with the full-length pants.

Also, I just noticed my straw clutch is available in black; I love that option! It would look so good with this outfit… I might have to grab that.

Tommy Bahama linen jacket (S) // WHBM utility tee (S) // PAIGE Leenah wide leg trouser jeans (29) (similar for less) // PAIGE wedge sandals (8) // Lagos earrings // YSL belt (option) // straw clutch: Amazon

Here’s how the outfit looks without the jacket, although I never took it off. I love this utility tee; it’s so flattering, and the fabric is such a nice quality – definitely a step up from a basic tee.

We came straight home after church, so I changed into shorts and a tank for the afternoon. I think we had friends over later that day, but I can’t quite remember.

These slides have the look of Birkenstocks, but they’re softer and break in easier, while still offering a lot of support. And my white shorts are from last year, but I found a very similar style that are also more affordable. I really like that 5″ inseam for a change.

Choose Joy tee (more sizes) (S) // Fidelity shorts (similar option) // Kork-Ease slides (8) // Lagos earrings // Lagos station bracelet & chain bracelet

I wore this outfit the next day after a photo shoot. I had a nail appointment that afternoon and a school event that evening, so I wanted to look somewhat cute. I love this top, but definitely size up, if ordering.

Sanctuary twist front tee (M) // MOTHER Insiders (more sizes) (29) // Dolce Vita slides (8) // Kendra Scott earrings // Lagos station bracelet & chain bracelet

This is the next day; I wore this activewear outfit to an early morning workout.

Vuori hoodie c/o (S) // similar Vuori leggings (M) // similar Zella tee (S) // Brooks sneakers (9)

And I changed into jean shorts and a graphic tee for the rest of the day.

Sundry JeT’aime Vintage Tee // KUT from the Kloth denim shorts (6) // Veja Esplar (39) // Lagos earrings

This next look is from a day of errands and working from home. I pulled these jeans out of my “maybe bin” when I realized I was wearing the MOTHER Insiders so much. They’re the FRAME Le High Straight from last year’s #NSale, and you may remember that I wore them a ton last summer and fall, but I didn’t reach for them as much in the winter, so I put them away.

I hate to wear things I can’t link, so I almost donated them, but then I realized they are exactly what I need right now, so I pulled them out. I like them for summer because they’re almost a crop length, and they’re a smidge wider in the leg opening than the MOTHER Dazzler that I often wear in lieu of my MOTHER Insiders.

The Dazzler has a 27 1/2″ inseam and 13″ leg opening, and the FRAME Le High Straight that I’m wearing has a 26 1/2″ inseam and 14″ leg opening. This is why I pay attention to denim measurements. It helps me understand what I like about some jeans more than others in various situations, and then when I go to order new styles, I know what to look for.

Chaser Sunset Rays Tank (S) // denim: FRAME (raw hem style most similar to mine) (29) // Dolce Vita slides (8) // Lagos earrings

I wore the MOTHER Dazzler later in the week, but I’ll share this outfit next, so you can see the difference. It’s subtle, and I probably don’t need both pairs in my closet, but I do wear them both a lot; and sometimes I prefer one over the other, depending on what shoes I’m wearing.

Also, I’ve had this grey t-shirt for at least 5 years, and I still love it. It’s the ultimate in softness, and it’s just a nice basic to have in my closet year ’round. Definitely size up, if ordering.

Splendid tee (M) // MOTHER Dazzler (29) // Tory Burch flats (8) // Lagos earrings

This next look is from the day I went to the orthopedist about my shoulder, and he gave me a cortisone shot and prescribed an anti-inflammatory. So far, they seem to be working. I’m feeling better, but I’m afraid they’re just masking the real problem. We shall see….

Meanwhile, I love this outfit. I just wish I’d washed and fixed my hair. I hate how it looks pulled back in pictures.

Sundry Side-Tie tee (size 1) // MOTHER Insiders (more sizes) (29) // Vince Camuto slides (8) // Dragon Diffusion tote // Lagos earrings

I wore this outfit the next day to walk the dog and then to the chiropractor. I think I just kept it on all day.

Vuori Halo hoodie c/o (M) // similar Vuori leggings (M) // ON sneakers (8.5) // Lagos earrings

The next day was last Saturday, and I had a spray tan appointment that morning. I have to wear loose clothing afterwards, so I don’t mess up the tanning process, so I actually wore this schlumpy outfit to the outlet mall with my daughter that afternoon. Oh, well. At least my hair and makeup was done!

old Zella tee // Vuori Halo Straight Leg c/o (M) // Birks (39) // Dragon Diffusion tote // Lagos earrings

And that night, I went out to dinner with a friend. I knew I wanted to wear my new black Sleeveless Notch-Neck Sweater with blue jeans. I still hadn’t showered off the bronzer from my spray tan, so dark colors were a must.

(The bronzer won’t permanently stain clothes, but it would rub off on them and require a washing, so I didn’t really want to wear any of my white denim.)

I thought it would be fun to wear these wide leg MOTHER Roller, so I tried them on first. Since they are so long, I don’t have a lot of footwear options, so I first grabbed my go-to Kork-Ease heels.

WHBM sweater (S) // MOTHER Roller (28) (similar w/ more sizes avail) (similar for less) // Kork-Ease heels (8)

I like that look, but I feel like I wear those sandals all the time. Since the sweater has silver hardware on the neck ties, I tried my silver wedge sandals, and I went ahead and added jewelry at that point.

sweater: WHBM (S) // denim: MOTHER (28) (similar w/ more sizes avail) (similar for less) // sandals: c/o Talbots (8) // tote: NAGHEDI // Kendra Scott hoops // Madewell necklace // Victoria Emerson bracelet

Something about that outfit looked off to me, although I couldn’t put my finger on it at the time. I feel like I look top heavy with my dark hair, the black sweater, and black bag on top, and then light wash jeans and silver shoes on the bottom. Do you see it?

I was also feeling a little extra in those wide flares, so I tried my MOTHER Weekender bootcut jeans, and I switched to black wedge sandals.

denim: MOTHER (29) // sandals: Vince (8) // Kendra Scott hoops // Madewell necklace // Victoria Emerson bracelet

This is totally fine, but it felt a little safe to me compared to the previous outfits with the MOTHER Roller, so I went back to this look and tried a front tuck.

Since the jeans are so long, with the high waist, I felt like that threw off my vertical proportions, so I left it out.

I also ended up carrying my woven tote instead of the straw clutch. I like the more casual vibe with these jeans, for some reason.

sweater: WHBM (S) // denim: MOTHER (28) (similar w/ more sizes avail) (similar for less) // Kork-Ease heels (8) // Dragon Diffusion tote  // Kendra Scott hoops // Madewell necklace // Victoria Emerson bracelet

Okay, moving on!!! I wore this black dress to church on Sunday. I didn’t want to bother with washing and fixing my hair, so I just threw it in to a claw clip.

My daughter tells me I have the same smile in all my pictures, and I should learn to smile with my mouth closed. Well, this is why I don’t smile with my mouth closed… It always looks like I’m smirking.

Gap Factory dress (S) // similar Dolce Vita sandals (8) // YSL bag (similar for less) // Lagos earrings // Madewell necklace // Victoria Emerson bracelets c/o

I went out to dinner again that night, and I wore this navy sweater and white jeans with cognac wedge sandals.

LOFT sweater tee (S) // denim: MOTHER (29) // Vince Camuto wedges (8) //  Amazon clutch (Tan 1) // VE bracelet c/o // Lagos earrings

Monday was Memorial Day, but we stayed home all day. I had planned to wear this.

LOFT sweater (S) // KUT from the Kloth denim shorts (6) // Talbots sandals c/o (8) // Lagos earrings

But I ended up keeping this on all day after my morning walk. I only had earrings in b/c I slept in them, lol.

tank: Athleta (M) // shorts c/o Vuori (S) // sneakers: Brooks (9) // Lagos earrings

And I didn’t take any pictures yesterday, so that’s a wrap!

  1. I so enjoy these posts as I am now attempting to shop for my real life and only buy things to go with what I already own or at least have an idea of where I might wear it rather than buying because it’s cute or I loved it on an influencer or it’s a great deal. Your post about shopping mistakes really echoed that. Mindful purchases only!😊

    1. Amen Sharon…….after Jo-Lynne’s post yesterday, I went straight to my closet and purged a bag and a half of clothes I didn’t love or wear. I couldn’t have said your comment any better so just will leave it at that. Jo-Lynne, I love your What I Wore Post and your thought into each outfit. Thanks for all the hard work.

  2. I finally bought the Kut from the Kloth porkchop short that you have shown on here after looking at them for awhile and I absolutely love them! Definitely my new favorite summer short, just the perfect length and fit!

  3. This What I Wore Lately was fantastic. You covered everything that I love. We have the same tastes. I’m just 5″ shorter than you. Seriously, you wear the same style that I long to see. I love it. I’m still trying the flares. I live in North Carolina so I haven’t seen a lot of the flares on ladies here my age or a little younger. There are a lot of capris’which I don’t wear because I’m short anyway or Leggings. I was at the Dr’s office yesterday and just about every one that came in had on Leggings with shirts or sweaters above their butts. Just awful looking. Anyway, thank you for this post!!

  4. Great looks! Do you have any options for the white KUT from the Kloth denim jacket? I found the sleeves in it too tight and would like a slightly looser fit. Any ideas?

    1. Laura, Jo-Lynne may know better but I just bought and received the Denim Trucker jacket in light Mid Indigo Wash from LOFT and I love it. The fit is great. For size reference I’m 5’3″ 120lbs. and decided on the XS. I had ordered the Small too but the sleeves were too long and loose and the body bigger than I wanted. They also have it in white. I just looked it up and now its regular $98 and 30% off. I got my blue denim one for sale price of $50.40, so right now the white is a little more. Hope this helps. Jo-Lynne, you would love the mid indigo wash of this jacket I bought. I love it with a lot of colors.

  5. I really like these posts and while I am scrolling through and reading the descriptions and stories I say to myself “Oh, those shorts/shoes/top/jeans are sooooo cute, but I don’t need them” but I still click the link wanting to see the measurements or what it looks like on a 17 year old model (I am 52, way off base). That’s what happened when I saw the Kork Ease buckle sandal – my heart fluttered a bit and again I said “I have slides that same color, I don’t need another” but then I found the Kork Ease slides are sold out in that color and my size, then I REALLY wanted them. Uggg – the games my brain plays on me. I’ll sit back, have another cup of coffee and let the urge to hunt those sandals down pass. They are soooo cute though 🥰 😂 *deep breaths*

  6. Great outfits. Those flares with the black top appear to make you look top heavy because they appear to be too big for your frame. They are wearing you rather than you wearing them. I think you might have to let those go. Other flares look great on you.

  7. I think we love these posts because it’s a true reflection of what you actually wear and what fits your lifestyle!
I love seeing what you chose to wear based on what you are doing!
Some outfits out there seem either too impractical or too red carpet!
Love these keep them coming please!

  8. Lol (BTW I love all your outfit combinations and your comments)….here’s my opinion why you felt top heavy with all black on top (hair, clothing etc). You’ve discussed in other post about how if you wear a dark shoe to “bookend” the look, it won’t lengthen the leg visual like going with same color as bottoms. I think a combination of the flare, higher waist and the lighter color shoe makes the legs appear longer. So with a darker shoe the visual looks different. A dark purse or clutch doesn’t effect the look except casual or dressy vibe in my opinion.

    1. I get that, but why do I like the beige shoes better than the silver? And I do think the black bag threw it all off. It looked out of place to me. That said, I agree with you re: the clutch vs brown woven bag. It’s a formality issue. Maybe I didn’t make it clear which woven tote I was referring to. 🙂 Interesting to hear everyone’s thoughts!

      1. Whoops…..I was just referencing what I thought you were inferring being out of balance with too much dark on the top half and being long on the bottom. Maybe I miss read or read into your comment and that’s why I mentioned dark shoes as a book end. I thought the beige and silver extended the silhouette on the bottom.

I like all your post, a lot of thought and honesty, time put into them. I’ve learned a lot from you….thanks.

  9. I am one of those that love this post because it’s you in ‘real life’ vs. wearing particular outfits specifically for the blog. I like your hair pulled back; it shows off your slender neck and face. I hope that you know how helpful it is, when you share the process of elimination you go through at times to achieve a particular look, so Thank You!

    1. I hope that you know how helpful it is, when you share the process of elimination you go through at times to achieve a particular look.

That is good to hear b/c I feel like sometimes it sounds so crazy! I mean, I know any of those outfits for the dinner out with the black sweater were fine, but I do enjoy perfecting the look.

That is good to hear, b/c I feel like it probably sounds

  10. I love this type of post. I like seeing what the real everyday Jolynne wears as opposed to the for the blog Jolynne. And i think your gorgeous and your smile is a big part of that😉

    1. I too can’t smile with my lips closed. It feels very unnatural and looks weird, lol. You have a beautiful smile. Anyway, I thought the brown shoes and handbag also looked better with the flares. I adore those silver wedges but I have a light gold pair and I know I really don’t need both. But, gosh, those are right up my alley for cuteness!

  11. I loved this post and you cracked me up when you said your daughter said you needed to smile differently in some pictures, I’m still laughing as I think most of us look better with our teeth showing so we don’t look like we’re smirking or trying to be sheepish. Moving on, love all the outfits and you and Caroline looked great, glad yall had a good time together in Nashville!

    1. Yeah, it’s kind of a fad, the closed mouth smile. I do see how it might be nice to change it up sometimes. I try to do that with how I stand, as well, but once you figure out what works best, it’s hard to stand any other way because those pictures don’t look as good.

      1. I think your posts/pictures always look natural and lovely, wouldn’t change a thing. Hats off to your photographer as well!

  12. Hi there – I have a question about the light colored YSL belt in the photos above – is it the dark beige or the cream ? It’s hard to tell due to the lighting. Thank you!

  13. This was such a fun and informative post! I loved the black sleeveless top with the flairs, didn’t see anything “top heavy” at all??? And your comment was so true that a closed mouthed smile is a fad right now. Some bloggers seem to always gently smile with closed lips and they always seem kind of sad and wistful! But I think a more open and cheerful smile like yours is so much more inviting and draws people in. Keep showing those pearly whites!

  14. Did you find that with the Loft medallion blouse the collar was very flimsy and didn’t stay open? I was able to buy the blouse (and still have the tags on) but for the few minutes I was wearing it I kept fixing it to keep it open. And unbuttoning it lower it was then too low cut. Maybe it’s just me as button down tops not usually what I buy.

  15. These posts and the try on hauls are my favorite !! I totally disagree with the comment regarding the Mother Roller jeans “wearing you” and you needing to “let them go”. I LOVE them on you (and maybe because i own them too lol). They fit you perfectly.
