What I Wore Lately Vol. 44

Greetings, and happy hump day! It’s been a couple weeks since my last edition of What I Wore Lately, so let’s dive right in.

We’ve had a lot of cold, snowy weather here in Philly over the past few weeks, and let’s just stay, the style inspiration in this post is a bit lackluster. I feel like I’m always apologizing for these posts, and I know I shouldn’t do that, but this time of year, it’s hard to get excited about fashion. I just want to be warm and comfortable. You’ve been warned.

All that to say, here’s what I wore over the past few weeks… at least, the days I thought to grab a picture.

What I Wore Lately

SIZING NOTES: I’m 5’5″ and 135 pounds-ish, with an hourglass shape. Unless I say otherwise, I’m wearing a 6/28 in pants/jeans, a small in tops, a 6 in dresses/jumpsuits, and size 8 shoe.

This first look is from exactly two weeks ago today. I had a photo shoot with Alison in the morning, and then I had to rush home for a vet appointment for Savannah. (I found someone who does house calls, and it has been such a game changer. I’ve wasted so much of my life waiting at the veterinarian’s office, and it only got worse with Covid.)

Anyway, back to the fashion. It was chilly and overcast, and I wore this cozy sweater and jeans with my favorite P448s for the rest of the day.

I don’t have any pictures from that Thursday. I had a workout that morning, and I’m guessing I just kept on my workout clothes all day.

On Friday, I wore this cozy hoodie over a t-shirt with my Vuori joggers to go to the nail salon and run a few errands..

And that brings us to Saturday. We actually had plans with friends that night for the first time in a long time. It was so nice to be with people! I wore this casual outfit comprised of old favorites.

The next day was Valentine’s Day, and we went to church that morning. I wore neutrals, but I pulled out a red bag and a red scarf. Oh, and I had my nails painted red too!

It was extremely cold, and I think we got more snow that afternoon. All I remember is wanting to be warm, so I changed into my Lou & Grey sweatpants and a cashmere turtleneck.

I’ve never been one to wear a sweater with sweatpants, but it’s kind of a thing right now, so I thought I’d try it. Turns out, it is verrrry warm and comfy, and I still felt somewhat put together… not that anyone in my household cares.

I also pulled on cashmere socks and my UGG slippers. I never wear both — always one or the other. But I was warm, and that made me happy. Then I took a picture because I looked so ridiculous. Hey, when it’s 20 degrees outside, you do whatcha gotta do.

Does anyone else find it humorous that the only outfit I can find anything much to say about is pairing cashmere with sweatpants and slippers? Don’t say I didn’t warn you that the style inspo is lacking in this post.

Okay, thank goodness I date these pictures, or I’d be totally lost by now. This was last Tuesday. (I didn’t take any pix that Monday, and I’m assuming it’s because I was a schlump all day.)

I guess I got showered and dressed, but I don’t have any notes on the picture or my calendar about where I went or what I did that day. I was probably just at home, doing try-ons.

The “elevated hoodie” is a big trend right now, which reminded me that I have this cashmere hoodie from the 2019 #NSale. It’s rather lightweight and boxy, so I usually wear it more in fall and spring when it’s not so cold… although it’s bee pretty cold here lately. We must have had the heat jacked up that day, judging by my outfit.

Anyway, I am happy to tell you that this sweater is still available and fully stocked at Nordstrom Rack!

I had a workout the next day, and I’m not sure why I put on a full face of makeup on, but you’re welcome.

I think I did some try-ons Thursday morning, and then I threw on this cozy sweater with my new washed black AGOLDE Tonis for the rest of the day.

On Friday, I pulled on the same jeans, this time with my new cashmere hoodie. (I swear, these are the same jeans as above. This picture was just really blown out. Also, this sweater is so plush and soft, and it’s on sale.

I don’t think I did much on Saturday… I can’t remember. I feel like I went somewhere because I remember wearing these shoes out and about.

Oh, yeah, I drove my daughter over to her friend’s house, and then worked for most of the day. I wore this hoodie and jeans with my Marc Fisher high tops. They’re perfect for cold or messy days when you don’t really want to wear boots but you want more coverage than a typical low top sneaker.

Then I got myself showered and dressed to go out to dinner that night. We tried a new restaurant — Bloom Southern Kitchen, for anyone local. It was nice! The ambiance and service was great, and the food was pretty good. I think we had set too-high expectations so we weren’t blown away, but it was good. We’d go back.

This sweater is old, and you’ve seen the jeans and boots plenty of times before, but I couldn’t decide how to wear my pendant. It’s adjustable, so at first I shortened it so it sits up higher on the chest, which is more on trend at the moment. I really like it longer, though, so that’s how I wore it. I took two pictures to compare.

And then because we had a few extra minutes before it was time to leave, I had Paul take a picture for Instagram. That’s when I realized I look like I’m wearing a neck brace. Maybe it was my posture, but this picture makes me laugh.

I was in a rush on Sunday morning because I ended up writing about my blog redesign process for Coffee Talk, and it took a lot longer than I intended. I rushed upstairs at 10:02, slapped on some makeup, put my hair in a pony, and threw on this sweater with my black Good American Good Legs and Vince Henderson boots. I was back downstairs and in the car, pulling out of the driveway at 10:15.

My daughter was amazed. It usually takes me 45 minutes to get ready, and that’s if I don’t dilly-dally. Of course, that also includes washing my hair, but anyway… my point is, I didn’t have time for a picture, and when I got home, I totally forgot about it until I had changed into sweatpants and slippers. So this is what you get.

Vince Weekend sweater // Lou & Grey sweatpants // UGG slippers // Lagos earrings

Also, that Vince Weekend V-neck is on sale in the black plum (I’d call it maroon or burgundy) and this pretty blue. Use code FEB25 for an additional 25% off. It’s true to size with a slouchy, oversized fit.

Finally, this is a bonus picture. I think I wore this for about 10 minutes one day, and then I ended up doing try-ons and changing into something else. That happens a lot. Anyway, I’m including it because I like it, this sweater is affordable and very pretty, and I didn’t take any pictures of my outfits the last two days because I’ve been a total schlump.

It’s supposed to hit 50 degrees here today, which is going to feel like a beach day to us after the weather of the past few weeks. I cannot wait. I’m planning to get myself outside for a nice long walk/run. I need it right now more than words can say.

Enjoy the rest of your day!

  1. Can you share a few recommendations for a nice, good-quality gray tee shirt that would be a bit dressier for the office? Something you could dress up with a jacket and accessories or be more nice but casual for going out. All I can seem to find are boxy gray tee shirts only fit for lounging around the house or working out. Thanks!

  2. We are eagerly awaiting spring here too although it often doesn’t arrive until April. Your 50s temps sounds really nice. We are still bundling up here. Thanks for keeping it real…. most of us are in comfy clothes most of the time. I dress up to go to the grocery store or run errands just for my own sanity and feel good and to make sure my jeans still fit! Good luck working the kinks out of the new re-design. When I read your posts on my iPad, the sign up for your newsletters blocks the content. When I open it on my laptop, it is fine.

  3. I hear you. I think we all need Spring, sunny weather to get outside more again. I think we all are over Winter and cozy. Thanks for being real on the blog today with your outfits. You still look great in the looks for sure.

  4. Hi Jo-Lynne, I would just like to say ” thanks” for keeping it real with your ” What I Wore” outfits for the past two weeks. I am in Ontario, Canada ( so not too far from you) and experiencing the same winter weather. It’s like I go into survival mode, where fashionable and cute go out the door, and I just need to get warm! I was feeling a little guilty about feeling “shlumpy” and wearing sherpa a little too much, but felt better about it when I read your post. We will dress cute again… It’s coming!

  5. I love all your sneakers you’ve been accumulating. I, too, have started quite the collection. 🙂
I saw your post about the new TB Miller comfort sandals and laughed because of all the mixed opinions in your FB group. I’m sure there will be many ladies who will love them, but I just cannot get on board with the new comfort sandal trend. But I’m not a Birkenstock girl either. I have tried them on and they just don’t look good on me. I think with my tall height and having thin, bony feet, the Birks add a “Big Bird” kinda feeling.

    1. Haha, Big Bird! I really didn’t think I was going to like them, but I think they’re going to be a really nice option to have. I like my Birks but sometimes they’re too casual, and the Millers are great, but I do need more support if I’m going to wear them all day.

    1. They are a little finicky with sizing. I have two pairs, and I needed the 38 in one and the 39 in the other. I’m usually a 39 in European sizes. So you may need to order two sizes to try.

  6. Hi! I’ve just found thiS page and love the Advice your sharing for us over 40s! I just goT those AG Mari jeAns you have on, but i have a queStion. Should they be wrinkling at the knee? They fit well Everywhere else and i really wanted a straight leg to look more modern. The way they sIt though is throwing me off (Have been rocking skinnies ForEver.). Any suggeStions? Advice? Return Them? I’m lost!

  7. I finally just finished reading this post from yesterday. We all have days that we just don’t want to put any effort into our appearance, and that’s okay. All of us need to give ourselves some grace every now and then. I don’t guess you want to hear that in my part of GA we are having highs in the mid to upper 70’s this week, and that on Sunday we may be in the low 80’s before dropping back into the 60’s next week.
