What I Wore Lately Vol. 87

Hi friends! It’s time for another edition of What I Wore Lately. This is where I round up my daily outfits from the past couple of weeks and share a little about where I wore them and how they came together.

What I Wore Lately: Two Weeks of Casual Outfits

SIZING NOTES: I’m 5’5″ and I usually wear a small in tops, a 28 or 29 in jeans, and a size 8 shoe. Gifted items are indicated by c/o; everything else I purchased myself.

First, an outfit I’ve worn several times over the past couple of weeks. This top is so versatile, and really nice for this summer to fall transition. I brought a cardigan with me because I was headed to the dentist, and it’s always cold in there.

The next day, I wore this casual look to work from home and meet a friend at the mall for a quick errand. I love the ultra casual-cool summery vibe of these light wash ankle flares with the raw hem; they pair perfectly with the graphic tank and basketweave slides.

I think I was home all day that Friday, as there’s nothing on my calendar. This is just a casual and comfy look for working from home.

The next day is when we flew to Nashville for a college visit with our youngest. I wore an outfit with pieces I could mix and match with the other items in my suitcase while we were there.

When we arrived, it was hot and humid and threatening rain, so I did a total outfit change before our college visit. This top and jeans are both lighter and softer than the ATM tee and Fidelity jeans, and I definitely didn’t want to be wearing espadrilles in the rain.

It was fortunate that I changed because we got caught in a massive downpour just as we were finishing up our tour.

We went out to dinner that night, and I changed back into the washed black jeans from earlier in the day, but I kept on the floral top. It has a black background, so I thought it worked out rather nicely. I also added the coated cotton jacket and switched to a blingier bracelet to give it more of an evening vibe.

It was still drizzling out, so I just kept on the slides. They’re more casual than I wanted for this look, but they work. I did pack wedge sandals, but they also had the espadrille sole. Not sure what I was thinking when I packed… I knew the weather forecast was ominous. I should have packed these or these.

We had planned to stay through Sunday and see some of the Nashville sites, but the weather wasn’t cooperating, and we were all tired from a stressful week and longing for our own beds. It wasn’t difficult or costly to change our flight home, so after a leisurely breakfast at our hotel, we headed back to the airport the next morning.

I could have worn the cheetah tee again, but I threw on this white v-neck instead. I figured, why not? Might as well wear it since I brought it.

That brings us to Labor Day Monday, and I spent a good part of the day by the pool. I had a feeling it might be my last pool day of the season.

Afterwards, I got showered and dressed to have some friends over that night. I took advantage of one last chance to wear my white cut-offs — not that I’m opposed to wearing white denim after Labor Day, but I will probably retire these white cut-offs and this tie-dye tee for the season. They just seem very summery to me.

With Labor Day behind us and everyone back at work and school, I felt like dressing a little more like fall. I pulled on this olive sweater vest with a pair of washed black straight ankle jeans, and then I added pointed toe mules. I love the black plaid with matte black hardware for fall.

I had a bunch of try-ons to do the next day, and afterwards, I pulled on this yellow linen tee and my trusty Mother Insiders. I usually put away my linen tops after Labor Day, so after I wore this one last time, I washed it and put it away for next spring.

I wore my oatmeal cable sweater vest with ankle flares to the nail salon last Thursday. I love this color palette; it’s so simple, but so pleasing to the eye.

Friday was my biweekly nail appointment. I went with more of a brown this time, but I can’t recall the name of it.

I went to the mall on Saturday with my daughter. I love this upscale casual outfit, but unfortunately the major components are no longer available. These earrings are really fun, though! Too bad you can’t see them better.

That night, we went over to a friend’s house to hang out. I would have just kept on the same outfit, but for some reason I was having major issues with static cling. I just washed that silk tee and steamed it, and for some reason, it would not stop sticking to me.

Does anyone have advice for that? It didn’t do that before I washed it. (And that may have been the first time it was washed.) It’s a quality top, so I don’t know what to do. I love it and plan to keep it a long time, but I have to figure out the static situation.

Anywho… I changed into this floral tee, which caused me to also change my shoes. Then I felt like it needed something, so I added a belt.

Sunday was church, and it was dreary and foggy outside. I wore my other pair of black straight ankle jeans, and I pulled out this short-sleeve wool blend sweater for the first time this season. It was a 2021 #NSale purchase, and I love the gorgeous teal color. These mules are from last year as well.

And this final outfit is from Monday. It was a rainy day, and kind of cool inside with the A/C on, so I felt like wearing long sleeves.

This thermal tee is from the #NSale, and it’s on sale again! As of right now, this black is fully stocked. I like the contrasting cuffs and hems and the traditional set-in shoulder seams. (I am so over the drop shoulder! It doesn’t flatter those of us with wider shoulders and/or larger chests.)

I paired it with comfy blue jeans and a pair of P448 sneakers. After posting about the retro runner trend that day, I had intended to wear mine, but I’m lazy and hate tying laces so I just pulled the P448s on instead.

Treasure & Bond thermal (M) // Mother Dazzler ankle straight (29; similar) // P448 John (39; similar styles) // similar pendant // Victoria Emerson x Jo-Lynne Shane earrings

That’s one reason I didn’t jump into that trend earlier; I hate tying sneakers. I’ll bother with it if I’m going somewhere and I really want the look, but when I’m home all day, I’m almost always going to reach for a slip-on shoe.

Okay, that’s all I’ve got! I had a rare late-in-the-day workout appointment yesterday, so I never bothered to put on real clothes, but otherwise, I’m doing pretty well with my New {School} Year’s resolution to get dressed in real clothes and put on makeup every day!

  1. I just had a question about your resolution for the year to be dressed in real clothes each day.
I work from home and have a fairly casual life.
I notice you seem to gravitate toward jeans and tops more than athleisure which is usually my go to, just wonder if there is a specific reason you choose one over the other?

    Thanks!

    1. I just don’t feel dressed in athleisure, and I don’t like how it looks on me. Jeans are much more flattering, and I’m less likely to snack mindlessly or overeat when I have on pants that button and zip.

I never really thought much about it, though… I just don’t reach for joggers when I’m getting dressed in the morning. They are the pants I reach for after church on Sunday when I’m just going to be reading on the couch and maybe taking a nap, or after a big meal when my pants are tight, lol.

  2. I always enjoy these posts! I am wondering how you handle Evereve returns. They have cute stuff but don’t have free returns which makes it hard to shop online. Thank you!

    1. I don’t have an Evereve store near me so I ante up and pay for the returns. It’s a small company, and I understand they can’t provide some of the same amenities the larger companies can.

  3. I have been trying to purchase those Fidelity jeans for awhile now, but they won’t come back in my size. I finally got the more faded black. I don’t know if I will like the color, but at least I will know how that brand fits me. I also got the black thermal top. It looks pretty cool. Thanks for the reminder on the Vince short sleeve sweater. I keep forgetting about it, but I love it.

    1. I also just got the Fidelity jeans in the more faded black! My first time trying Fidelity and I LOVE the fit and fabric of them so much. I like the raw hem, but I do wish the white fading wasn’t *quite* so faded. But they will make great jeans for casual days—a definite win for me!

  4. I zoomed in on your P448s to try to see what you do with the laces to make them slip-ons. Do you have a tutorial, or am I the only person who needs one?

  5. I love these post, as it gives us an idea of what you keep and actually wear. That is so helpful. I don’t like when bloggers post a bunch of options from Amazon, but you never know if they actually wear them and how they wash and hold up. I’m just not a fan of trying to order clothes from Amazon and wonder what the quality is going to be like. I forgot you had the Floral tee from Loft. I was looking at that just this week, thinking the color was so pretty and a great tee for this transition time. I read it had hidden peacocks on it. I don’t really care for anything bird on my clothes, but I don’t see the birds on yours??? I will wait for a better sale if I decide to order it. Loft hasn’t been doing their 40% off lately. I’m still loving my Navy Borne slides and I finally decided to retire them for the season. So glad you recommended them. Such an unexpected purchase and I will be happy to pull them out again next Spring, as I got these toward the end of Summer on sale. They go with so much. I just took out my Spring/Summer things in my closet, leaving only some things and turned it to Fall/Winter. I see I have more shopping to do. LOL I really see how I didn’t keep up with regular clothes shopping during Covid and now those before Covid items need to be purged for one reason or another. I wore lots of leisure wear during covid days when we couldn’t go anywhere for awhile. I’m still loving my vouri performance joggers. If anyone hasn’t tried them yet, you need to order them from one of Jo-Lynne’s links. So worth the price. Thanks Jo-Lynne for all your hard work each day to give us some fun and informative information each morning.

    1. “I don’t really care for anything bird on my clothes…” Haha! I feel the same way. I didn’t notice any birds, but I’m right there with you. I don’t know what it is but I don’t like birds in floral patterns either.

      1. Oh no……..hope I didn’t ruin the tee for you. LOL 🙂 If they are hidden, maybe you can forget the birds are there. LOL

  6. Static is a problem for me in the Winter. I found static guard spray at Target or Amazon that works well. I’ve also rubbed a dryer sheet on the inside of the fabric. It works in a pinch.

      1. When I had that problem years ago, I read to go barefoot in the outfit with static clean for awhile and it will relieve the static. Also wet your hands and lightly rub on the inside of the clothing. I’ve tried both and I have to say they both worked okay, just not perfect. The barefoot sounds strange and I’ve only tried it once. I’m not sure how the wetting hands would work on your silk though. Static is the worse and I had it happen just a few days ago too. Look it up on Pinterest I’m sure they have all kinds of hacks. 🙂

      2. Static is a regular problem where I live. Idk why, but it’s very humid here too so maybe that’s it? I use dryer sheets, but fyi they work best if they’ve been used and don’t have any of the “soap” on them. This prevents them from leaving residue. I keep a couple in a pocket inside my purse. Hope it helps!

  7. I have a pair of black silk joggers by Rag & Bone. The first time that I washed them (or had them dry cleaned, I don’t recall), and tried them on, they were super static-y. I was really disappointed. I tried them on several more times, and each time they were less clingy. When I finally decided to wear them, they were fine. I have no idea why, but they are fine now.

  8. Have you tried Staticguard? It smells awful but that doesn’t last (at least I hope!). I use it all winter long, even on my combs or brushes so my hair isn’t all staticy(?). Also, I love all these outfits! You do transition to fall perfectly!

  9. I really like the floral tee! Like you, I hate wearing lace up shoes at home, but it’s because we have very sandy soil, so I change into my outdoor shoes when I’m going to walk in the yard, at all. My agenda for the day dictates what I wear since I only wear certain items if I am going to get sweaty. We are having a few days with lower humidity and chilly mornings, but it’s about to come to an end, for now. 😢

  10. I like the new graphics!

Do many of you wear shoes around the house?? I’m surprised to read that. I wear socks or slippers.

  11. Do you have advice on where a straight crop jeans should hit on your leg? I am petite and I just bought a straight pair of jeans that is too long for me, but I am thinking of just cutting them instead of having them hemmed.

  12. If I have a problem with static I run a wire clothes hanger over the surface of the garment. A trick my Grandmother taught me. I am not sure the science behind it but it is simple and works every time.
