Winter Fashion Try-On Haul

Hi, friends! I’ve got another Try-On Haul for you today! Believe it or not, I have even more packages arriving that I want to share with you, but I figured I should go ahead and get these up while so many are on sale.

Speaking of sales, I was planning to add a bunch of the items I’ve worn lately that are on sale to the end of this post, but it was getting too long, so I’ll put a separate post up later today.

Winter Fashion Try-On Haul: Evereve, Bloomingdale’s, Nordstrom & More

SIZING NOTES: I’m 5’5″ and I usually wear a small in tops and dresses, a 29 in jeans, and a size 8 shoe. Gifted items are indicated by c/o; everything else I purchased myself.

Most of these items are from Evereve, Bloomingdale’s, and Nordstrom.

Bloomingdale’s is still running this promo: Take $25 Off Every $100 You Spend on items labeled TAKE 25% OFF + Take Additional 15% off with code EXTRA15. And then on almost everything else, Loyallists get a $25 Reward for every $100 you spend. These add up fast, and you get them within a couple days!

Nordstrom has a bunch of really good Black Friday Deals + New Markdowns, and Evereve isn’t running a sale yet, but I’m sure they will next weekend.

Splendid Kendall Stripe Cardigan

at Nordstrom (S) // at Splendid.com – 40% off // Gap Factory tank (M) // similar PAIGE denim (29) // Dolce Vita Dee Bootie – on sale (8.5)

Stripes and v-neck cardigans are both trending this fall and winter, and I’m loving both, especially when combined into one garment like this one. Splendid products are all made in the USA, and they have some of the softest, loveliest fabrics.

This sweater is super soft and comfortable, and it’s cozy but not super warm. It would be nice for those who live in warmer climates. I like how the black stripes are outlined with camel and grounded on a cool shade of beige – I’d call it oatmeal. Bloomingdale’s has a green version on sale.

I tried it both buttoned and unbuttoned, and I like it both ways. This length is highly versatile, and should work well with a lot of different denim silhouettes.

VERDICT: I also ordered the green on sale from Bloomies, and I plan to try both on with various jeans and see which I want to keep. I will only keep one, as I don’t like to have duplicates in my closet.

Design History Fair Isle Sweater

at Evereve (S) // on sale at Saks (S) // white tank – on sale (M) // similar PAIGE denim (29) // Steve Madden Chelsea Boots – on sale (8)

I absolutely love this sweater; it takes me right back to college in New England in the early 90s, when we all wore those super thick fair isle cardigans with the wooden buttons!

The color palette on this is really nice too, but I’m struggling with how to style it.

I like how the model on the website is wearing it, with the lower few buttons undone. I tried that, and I think it’s okay, but maybe I need to try it over a white tee where the neckline shows a bit. I like that added interest.

Instead, I put it over a white tank – and this is a really nice one, by the way. It’s Splendid, the same brand as the sweater above, and it looks and feels very high quality.

Here’s how the sweater looks unbuttoned, and also with just the top button fastened. I feel like the one button look sort of works.

I’m just not sure I love it with the wide leg jeans, although it sort of works. There’s a nice effortless appeal about this overall look, even if it isn’t as slimming as some of my other outfits.

To give it a totally different vibe, I also tried the black PAIGE Leenah Trouser and a pointed toe bootie, but this feels a little mumsy to me. I definitely prefer this cardigan in the more casual look.

VERDICT: I think I’m keeping this sweater, but I need to try it with some other denim silhouettes.

Halogen Gold Button Ribbed Sweater

at Nordstrom – 33% off (S) // Vince Camuto pants – on sale (S) // Marc Fisher pumps (8)

This is just a nice, versatile sweater for work or date nights. It’s a thick nylon/rayon ribbed knit, and it’s clingy, but not in an unflattering way.

I love the gold button detail on the shoulder; the way they’re designed in a diagonal pattern is very flattering. It’s 24″ long, so you can wear it tucked or untucked, depending on your body type and the proportions of the outfit.

VERDICT: Keeping! This is a nice option to have for church and dinners out, and it’s now on sale!

Vince Camuto Faux Suede Pants

at Bloomingdale’s ($25 off every $100 + 15% off with EXTRA15) (S) // LNA Emelie Rib Top (M) // Marc Fisher pumps (8)

These pants are a really nice work wear option to have. They’re a soft, stretchy faux suede.

The pull-on style makes them very comfortable and easy to wear. The seaming up the front and back is elongating and adds a nice element of interest, and they’re fully lined.

I like how they don’t create any bulk through the waist, so you can wear them with form-fitting tops untucked, as I’m doing here. They’re on sale at Bloomingdale’s right now, and they run true to size.

This LNA Emelie Top is 22″ long (as opposed to the 24″ Halogen sweater above) so I like it better left untucked with pants like these.

VERDICT: I’m holding onto these. I think they will be nice to have. They have a similar silhouette, but are not quite as form-fitting as my Vince Crop Leggings.

Rails Indi Animal Spot Blouse

at Evereve (S) // at Nordstrom (S) // Vince Camuto pants – on sale (S) // Marc Fisher pumps (8)

This is a gorgeous blouse; I love the abstract animal spot print. It’s a fresh take on leopard, which got rather tired for me when it was trending so hard a few seasons ago.

It’s lined in the bodice, but the arms are sheer, and it has a front button placket you can unbutton to your comfort level.

The swingy silhouette has a 23 1/2″ straight hem, so you can leave it untucked if you like, but I prefer a front tuck to accentuate the waist.

I also tried it with my PAIGE Laurel Canyon High Waist Flares and Vince boots, and both are part of the $25 off every $100 + 15% off with EXTRA15 promo at Bloomingdale’s.

I absolutely love this combination. It’s a little more urban/modern/edgy than with the suede pants, yet still classy and on brand for me.

VERDICT: Keeping! I can’t wait to wear this to dinner sometime soon.

Wit & Wisdom ‘Ab’Solution Skyrise Wide Leg Pants

at Nordstrom (8) // black top (S) // Vince booties – on sale (8)

I ordered these, to try another work wear option for those who need it. I wanted to try a wide leg style, and I like the subtle brown print.

These don’t look like much on the rack (or, out of the box, rather), but when I tried them on, I was pleasantly surprised. I think they’d be a nice option for those who need a variety of pants for work or just prefer pants to jeans.

VERDICT: I sent them back because I just don’t wear non-denim pants very often, but as I look at these pictures, I’m wondering if I should have kept them for church. They’re a decent price for pants, but not on sale at the moment.

Aqua Cashmere V-Neck

at Bloomingdale’s – on sale (M) // AG Mari – on sale (29) // Vince booties – on sale (8)

I used to wear a lot of cashmere from Bloomingdale’s in-house brand, Aqua. They’re on a really good sale right now, so I wanted to revisit them, and this gorgeous seagreen v-neck caught my eye.

FYI, I reviewed the turtleneck version in my last Try-On Haul, if you want to check that out.

It’s a nice quality fabric, and I like the cut of the v-neckline, but evidently, they haven’t shortened them to keep up with the times.

I gave it a front tuck to bring the proportions of the outfit into better balance, which works just fine.

Fit Tip: These sweaters run small; I’m in the medium here, and as you can see, it’s none too big.

VERDICT: I might return this, I don’t know that I love it enough to keep it, but if you need a classic cashmere v-neck, it comes in TONS of colors, and it’s a very good value for $106. (The extra 15% off does not apply to these.)

Also, those AG Mari jeans are part of the $25 off every $100 + 15% off with EXTRA15 at Bloomingdale’s.

KUT from the Kloth Alena Zip Faux Suede Jacket

at Nordstrom (S) // Aqua cashmere sweater – on sale (M) // AG Mari – on sale (29) // Vince booties – on sale (8)

I don’t know why this jacket looks lavender; it is grey. And I like the clean, minimalist stying a lot, but the faux suede material kind of icks me out; I can’t really explain why. Maybe I’d like it better in the black. It also runs small; it felt tight across my shoulders and back, at least worn over this sweater.

VERDICT: I returned it; I might try the black in a medium.

Velvet Stripe Pullover

at Bloomingdale’s ($25 off every $100 + 15% off with EXTRA15) (S) // MOTHER Dazzler (29) // J.Crew sneakers (25% off) (8h)

I’ve already worn this, so you may have seen it, but I wanted to throw it in here since it’s on sale. I love the polo collar, the ivory and navy stripes, and the short-but-not-quite-cropped length.

It’s pricey, but the quality is nice, and I don’t have anything quite like it. I took pictures from all angles, trying to decide if I like this length or if it’s too short. I think it works, but these mid-rise jeans may not be the best pairing for it.

I also tried it with wide leg jeans and boots. I wore these jeans a lot in the spring and summer, but I’m trying to figure out how to incorporate them into my fall/winter wardrobe. I think this is the answer – they look great with shorter sweaters like this that aren’t fitted but not voluminous either.

These are the PAIGE Anessa Wide Leg Ankle Jeans in the size 29, and they’re part of the Bloomies Black Friday promo ($25 off every $100 + 15% off) and the weather proof Aquatalia Luissa booties that are on sale at Nordstrom Rack.

VERDICT: Keeping this sweater; I already wore it once!

VELVET Gigi Pullover

at Evereve (S) // MOTHER Dazzler (29) // J.Crew sneakers (25% off) (8h)

This is such an easy pullover to throw on with jeans; I love the soft and spongy ribbed knit, the raglan sleeves, and the rolled edges at the cuffs and hem. The color is super pretty, too.

I’m just not sure about the 21″ length; it’s just a smidge too short to work with these mid-rise jeans. Even one more inch would make a big difference.

VERDICT: Deciding. I need to try it with a few other denim options before I decide whether to keep or not, but I didn’t have time.

Also, I fully expect Evereve to run a Black Friday Sale when Thanksgiving gets closer, so if you have your eye on this, I’d wait.

O.P.T Tasia Pullover

at Evereve (S) // MOTHER Dazzler (29) // J.Crew sneakers (25% off) (8h)

Okay, last one! This easy pullover in a soft rib knit with a collared neckline and long sleeves is such a versatile piece. You could easily layer it under a boxy blazer, if you like that look, but it stands alone nicely, as well. You could dress it up with trousers for work, or dress it down on the weekends.

My only issue is, it is a bit clingy. I’m not sure I love how it hugs the muffin top, but a higher rise jean would probably solve that issue.  That’s really an issue with the pants more than the top.

It’s a very soft, high quality knit. I like it a lot.

VERDICT: Deciding. I have a lot of sweaters; and I need to try it with some other pants and see how I feel in it.

Okay, that’s a wrap for the try-ons. I decided to make a new post for the sales because it was getting so long.

  1. I really like the Bloomingdales Aqua brand. I don’t need bougie cashmere ….as long as it’s soft, warm, and cute I’m good. They last a long time for me since I live in an area that doesn’t get super cold (although I’m freezing when it’s 63 degrees out 😄)
I love your striped sweater with the Paige Anessa and boots- super cute!
This question is totally not fashion related but do you have a recommendation for a good runner rug for the kitchen?

    1. HeatherJ – Ruggables is what I use for my kitchen runner – love it. Washed in the washer and air dried a few times and has held up great!

  2. I think the link for Vince Camuto pants goes to the sweater instead. Looking for a wider leg pants alternative to my Vince cropped pants.

  3. Love the new and different tops. My favorite outfit was the fair isle cardigan (top 2 buttons buttoned up) with the black flair pants/jeans. Of course you called that ‘Mumsy”! HA!! If you mean “grandmotherly/frumpy” then I completely disagree (but I am 10 years older than you and a grandmother!) but if you meant British/Irish/Scottish, then mumsy it is! Love fair isle designs and Irish knits! So warm and inviting and wintery!! With that sweater I would wear my red corduroy flair jeans with black boots to a winter event! AND, my husband’s family is Swedish and my mother-in-law gifted me with several gorgeous hand-knit sweaters from their trips. I can’t wait till it gets cold enough to wear them here in New Jersey. I wear them as my outwear coat.

    1. I just meant that I felt like the sweater lent itself better to the more casual blue jeans outfits… for me. 🙂 I think it’s more about personal style than age. I might like them with more of a casual black jean.

  4. I’m looking at the straight leg suede pants and I’m trying to figure different ways to style (another style in the foot wear)……and suggestions??
