My Favorite Spring Shoe Trend

Well, friends! It’s hard to believe that 26 Days of Spring Fashion is already over, but I have plenty of spring fashion left to share, and today I’m talking about my favorite spring shoe trend…

If you guessed white sneakers, you were right!

I’m totally loving the white sneaker trend this spring.

Whether you pair them with a flirty dress, a preppy sweater and dark wash jeans, or an edgy leather moto, white sneakers create the perfect juxtaposition to your daily streetwear looks, and they look so fresh and clean against the bold colors and delicate pastels that are popular right now.

These Tommy Hilfiger Two Sneakers from Macy’s are a great way to experiment with the trend because at $59, they’re not a huge investment. Even better, Macy’s Great Shoe Sale starts today!

SALE ALERT >> Now through April 14th, you can save 30% on one pair, or 40% on two or more pairs of shoes at Macy’s with promo code GREAT.

These sneakers retail for $59, but they’re currently 30–40% off, making them the perfect marriage of style and value.

They’re very comfortable right out of the box, and I didn’t even wear socks with them.

But what makes them really stand out is the logo-flag trim on the ankle. It’s a fun detail that helps break up the solid white and gives them extra personality.

These shoes run true to size for sneakers; for size reference, these are my usual 8.5.

To show you an easy way to wear them, I styled these white sneakers with dark wash jeans and preppy navy sweater.

The jeans are Lucky Brand Ava Jeggings, and they’re super flattering. The dark blue wash is slightly faded and whiskered for a comfy, broken-in look, and they fit great.

I also like the slightly shorter 27″ inseam for spring because it shows a little more ankle, which is generally flattering — especially with shoes that have a higher vamp such as these sneakers.

Right now these jeans are 50% off, bringing them down to $39.75! For size reference, I’m in the 29, so they’re TTS or size up if in between.

This sweater is also by Tommy Hilfiger, and I love the classic styling and all the extra little touches, like the logo-flag trim at sleeve cuffs and hem and button details at cuff.

It’s also a nice quality knit that fits great and feels good on. For size reference, I’m wearing a small.

This outfit is giving me all the Kate Middleton vibes, and I can’t say I’m mad about it!

I love the navy sweater with dark wash jeans for an easy monochromatic look, and the white sneakers create a pleasing contrast while maintaining the overall classic style.

Connect The Dots {Spring Jumpsuit Outfit}

Greetings, friends! I’m wrapping up 26 Days of Spring Fashion with a spring jumpsuit outfit, and this dotted flutter drawstring jumpsuit is 40% off this weekend!

If you saw my Try On Haul last weekend, then you’ve probably already seen me in this jumpsuit, but I liked it so much I wanted to do a proper photo shoot with it.

This jumpsuit is the perfect combination of feminine and flirty with classic lines. It’s not super tailored, but it’s not too froo-froo either — which is exactly what I was looking for.

The polkadots give it a playful touch, and while they may not be for everyone, I really like this print for spring. For size reference, I’m in my usual size small.

I wanted to carry a red bag with this, but my red bag has some edgy hardware that didn’t seem quite right with this jumpsuit, and I got rid of the other red bags I had over the years. This is one of those times I wish I hadn’t purged my closet so ruthlessly.

The black patent clutch is okay, but I would rather have a pop of color. I think a simple crossbody like this or this would be perfect with this outfit.

I went with silver jewelry, but gold would work just as well. And while I like the silver hoops, I definitely could have gone with bigger earrings.

It’s funny, looking back at pictures, I always see more possibilities than I do when I’m putting outfits together the morning of a photo shoot. I always think I’ll plan ahead better for the next one, but I usually end up scrambling the morning of. #procrastinator

While I can see more possibilities with accessories, I also like this simple look that allows the jumpsuit to be the focal point.

And because I’m nothing if not predictable, I threw a denim jacket on top to show a way to dress it down.

With the chilly temperatures we’re having this spring, a layer is often a necessity. The denim jacket takes the formality down a notch and provides some nice juxtaposition.

This more casual take on the look would look great with an espadrille wedge sandal like these or a flat slide like these.

I really like the idea of a jumpsuit as a modern alternative to a dress for spring and summer events, and this one checks all my boxes. Best of all, its 40% off today!

How would you style this jumpsuit?

Spring Weekend Style

Cheers to Friday, friends! 🥂 Who can believe we’re going to be wrapping up 26 Days of Spring Fashion tomorrow?!? I don’t know about you, but this style series flew by for me.

Today I’ve got a budget-friendly spring weekend look that’s perfect for wearing from the soccer field to the grocery store to an outdoor picnic with friends, and you aren’t going to believe where it’s from.

When Walmart reached out to me about taking part in their “We Dress America” campaign and sharing some Walmart fashion, I admit, I wasn’t so sure about it. I’ve never shopped for clothes at Walmart, and I wasn’t sure I could find anything that I feel good wearing and promoting.

But a lot of you have said you like it when I find budget-friendly options for the styles I normally wear, so I decided to accept the challenge and see what I could come up with.

I spent a lot of time combing through Walmart’s website, hunting down pieces to create an outfit that I would truly want to wear.

I was excited to find that in addition to Walmart’s own brands, they’ve recently began a partnership with Lord+Taylor and now carry those premium brands online.

That’s where I found this Karl Lagerfeld leather tote and my Lucky Brand bracelet and earrings.

It was nice to see some familiar brands that I already love and trust.

A cuff is my favorite style of bracelet because it’s one and done. You don’t have to mess with layering or matching up different pieces.

Another familiar brand I found at Walmart was Levi’s jeans. Levi’s has been having a moment lately, and I find they provide a really good marriage of style and value.

These are the Classic Mid Rise Skinny Jeans in Tinted Blue Sea. I sized up to a 10 to get a good fit in the waist, which I find I often need to do with Levi’s. They’re definitely not into the vanity sizing, but when you get the right size, they have a good fit and feel for the price point.

I ordered the medium length with the intent of cuffing them as I did here, and I love how that gives them the look of the cropped straight that is trending right now. I also think cuffing your jeans makes them look more casual and spring-like.

And this gently faded mid-indigo wash is also a nice one for spring and summer.

In fact, my photographer commented on exactly that when she saw this look. She was shocked to hear this outfit is from Walmart. She kept mentioning how good the jeans look and how nice and soft the top is.

Speaking of this top, I didn’t want to order only premium brands for this post. I wanted to be sure to try some of Walmart’s everyday brands and find some good bargains to recommend to you all, so I ordered a bunch of tops tees, sweaters, jeans, and shoes from their Time and Tru brand.

After vetting them all, this plaid button front top was my favorite of the lot. It’s surprisingly soft, and I like how it’s fully lined with a complementary color. For size reference, I’m wearing the medium.

The small fit, but barely, and I feel like this top is meant to fit more loosely, as shown here. I also anticipate that it might shrink some, so I wanted to be sure to have a little extra room.

It came already cuffed, and I love the contrasting solid peach fabric.

This top comes in a bunch of other solids and plaid color ways, and it retails for just $15.84!

I also really like these perforated slip-on sneakers for $14.88. They’re cushy and soft inside, and the styling is right on trend.

These shoes are perfect for wearing with casual jeans and shorts outfits, and at that price, you don’t have to be precious with them or worry about getting them dirty if you’re at an outdoor picnic or the soccer field this spring.

Overall, I have to say, Walmart is seriously upping their fashion game. I’m pleased with how this look turned out, and I don’t think anyone would ever guess the top, jeans, and shoes total just $70!

So what do you think? Would you like to see more Walmart fashion on my blog in the future?

3 Accessory Trends for Spring 2019

Greetings, and welcome back to 26 Days of Spring Fashion! I’m excited to team up with Nordstrom and talk about 3 accessory trends for spring 2019 that you may want to add to your closet this season.

3 Accessory Trends for Spring 2019 #ad #nordstrom

There’s no doubt about it, adding a few on-trend accessories to your closet each season is the easiest (and least expensive) way to update your wardrobe, but it’s easy to let accessories become an afterthought.

I know I’m guilty of that — mainly because I like to keep my accessories minimal, but also because I spend so much time finding clothing items that fit and flatter and putting looks together, that by the time I get to choosing accessories, I tend to grab whatever’s closest and go.

But the power of accessories is undeniable. Even the simplest outfit can be taken to the next level with the addition of a few well chosen accessories, so I’m trying to be more intentional about my accessories these days.

Nordstrom is one of my favorite places to shop for jewelry and accessories because they have such a wide variety of styles and price points. I always know I can find what I’m looking for there.

Whether it’s jewelry or watches, scarves or handbags, belts or hats, Nordstrom is guaranteed to have a great selection for all occasions.

3 Accessory Trends for Spring

#1. Snakeskin Print

Some say it gives them the heebie jeebies, but snakeskin print is one of the hottest accessory trends for spring 2019, and it’s a nice way to add pattern and texture to an outfit.

This leather snakeskin clutch is such a great little piece to add to your going-out looks. I love how it has shades of lavender in addition to the neutrals.

It also has a convenient drop-in chain so you can put it on your shoulder and be hands-free if you need to be.

See how it elevates this simple outfit?

If that’s not your thing, consider another animal print — leopard or cheetah are everywhere this spring too. In fact, this clutch also comes in leopard print!

You can find just about any accessory in snakeskin print — belts, bags, shoes, scarves… even sunglasses. And don’t forget about shoes!

I have a pair of snakeskin d’orsay flats that I’ve been enjoying with my spring outfits. In fact, I just wore them the other night with black jeans and a black blouse to meet some girlfriends for happy hour.

More Snakeskin Print Accessories:

#2. Bold Hoops

A tamer trend that shouldn’t give anyone the heebie jeebies is statement earrings — in particular, bold tubular hoops. These marbled hoop earrings are on the smaller side, but they still have that modern tubular style.

This pair is similar but larger — in fact, I ordered the black ones, but they didn’t show up at all in my hair, so I wore the white ones for this post.

I also have this pair of silver graduated hoop earrings that I’ve been wearing a lot.

also wearing: French Connection floral wrap midi dress

This is an easy trend to wear because hoop earrings are a classic, making them highly adaptable to your personal style.

Add a pair of bold, tubular hoops to one of your regular outfits, and you get an updated look without stepping too far outside of your comfort zone.

More Bold Hoops:

#3. Layered Necklaces

Probably my favorite accessory trend right now is layered necklaces, and I love it when I find a set already grouped together into one necklace.

This layered disc necklace is a great example of a piece that is understated but still on trend. It’s also highly versatile and will go with so many outfits.

You can find layered necklaces in short and long versions, with as many as 4 or 5 necklaces in one, or just two as shown here. Some are even detachable so you can get several looks in one!

More Layered Necklaces:

If you haven’t updated your accessories in a while, hopefully this post will inspire you to add a few new pieces to your arsenal.

3 Accessory Trends for Spring 2019 #ad #nordstrom

I’m also wearing ankle straight leg jeans with a black slit sleeve sweater and nude mules, which ironically also come in a snake print.

These mules are currently 30% off, and the sweater and jeans are both under $50!

I recommend sizing down half in the mules, but the jeans and sweater are TTS.

Tiered Hem Linen Tee Redux

I love it when a company brings a great item of clothing back for a second season.

I had this tiered hem linen tee last year in the pink, and I wore it a ton. This year they’ve brought it back in a bunch of other gorgeous colors, including this dusty periwinkle blue.

I love the split neck, the gently ruffled sleeves, and of course the tiered hemline. It wears like a basic tee but it looks anything but.

I ordered this tee in the black and red in a size small, but I was afraid they would be too snug on me after they’re washed, so I exchanged them for this periwinkle blue in the medium.

I like the loser fit, and now I’m not so worried about shrinkage.

FYI, Nordstrom has almost sold out of this color, but Zappo’s carries it. Some colors are on sale, but this one is full price. Still, at $44, I think it’s a good value.

It also comes in a 3/4-sleeve version, if you’re interested. I have that one in the olive green from last year, and it’s really cute too.

I felt like this periwinklw color was begging to be paired with white jeans, and who am I to resist the call of white jeans in the springtime???

This top would also look nice with darker wash jeans, or white or navy pants. And I suppose you would wear it with a color, but I almost always pair light blue with white in the spring and summer. #plainjane

For accessories, I wore my these white hoop earrings and a gold beaded bracelet. Oh, and hey, this bracelet just went on sale 40% off!

I don’t think this outfit needs a necklace, but I’d like it better with something delicate to fill the neckline. I had my star necklace and small charm pendant with me the day of this shoot, but I forgot to put them on.

My natural inclination was to wear blush or nude shoes with this look, but I decided to take a step outside of my comfort zone (see what I did there?) and try these cheetah print flats.

Even though there’s black in the print, the white background keeps them light enough to work with the muted tones in this outfit.

I carried my taupe Everlane tote, which isn’t necessarily my first choice, but it’s what I had with me, and I actually like how it works with the rest of the outfit.

This is the kind of outfit I live in during the spring and summer. Between the details on the tee and the pattern in the shoes, this outfit looks far more special than a basic jeans-and-tee, but it’s just as easy to throw on and go.

Spring Color Crush: Navy

Greetings, and welcome back to 26 Days of Spring Fashion, a style challenge where I share a new spring outfit every day during the month of March!

Today I’m teaming up with JCPenney to style two dresses that are perfect for church services, a spring wedding, or other events you may have coming up this season. They both happen to be one of my favorite spring colors — navy blue — and best part is, they’re both under $50!

Spring Style with JCPenney: Jessica Howard Sleeveless Dots Fit & Flare Dress with Worthington Beckwith Heeled Sandals | Easter Dress | Spring Dress | Fashion for Women Over 40

I’m always a fan of navy, but I particularly love it in the springtime. It’s so classic and elegant, and every bit as versatile as black, but not as harsh. Some women have a hard time wearing black, but just about everyone looks good in navy.

I don’t think I’ve met a polkadot I don’t like, so as soon as I saw this sleeveless dots fit and flare dress, I knew it needed to come home with me. It’s so springy with the filmy chiffon and feminine fit-and-flare style.

Spring Style with JCPenney: Polkadot Chiffon Fit & Flare Dress with white ankle strap sandals | Easter Dress | Spring Dress | Fashion for Women Over 40

I love the pleated detail around the neckline and the way the sleeves are cut under the arms. A lot of sleeveless dresses are cut too deep and can expose your bra, but this one is perfect.

Spring Style with JCPenney: Polkadot Chiffon Fit & Flare Dress with white ankle strap sandals | Easter Dress | Spring Dress | Fashion for Women Over 40

I kept this look simple with white strappy sandals and a white clutch.

Spring Style with JCPenney: Polkadot Chiffon Fit & Flare Dress with white clutch

This dress is perfect for Easter Sunday or other spring events that may be coming up. Throw on a white cardigan, or even a denim jacket if you want to dress it down, and you’re good to go!

If you prefer sleeves, you’ll love this next look. This navy bell sleeve sheath is a little more tailored than the one above, and I can see it working well for the work place, church, or any dressy event that requires more conservative attire.

Spring Style with JCPenney: Liz Claiborne 3/4 Bell Sleeve Sheath Dress with lavender patent Worthington Bristol Pumps Strap Open Toe Stiletto Heels | Easter Dress | Spring Dress | Fashion for Women Over 40

I’m always a fan of a sheath, and this one is super flattering.

The bell sleeves are a nice detail too, and they’re the perfect length — not as likely as a longer sleeve to get dragged through my soup at lunch!

Navy 3/4 Bell Sleeve Sheath

I would typically wear white or nude shoes with navy, but I decided to go for something a little different this time.

These lavender patent sandals are a subtle color, but still more unexpected than the usual neutral suspects.

Spring Style with JCPenney: Liz Claiborne 3/4 Bell Sleeve Sheath Dress with lavender patent Worthington Bristol Pumps Strap Open Toe Stiletto Heels | Easter Dress | Spring Dress | Fashion for Women Over 40

You could add a necklace to glam it up, but I decided to keep the look simple and understated with gold drop earrings.

For size reference, I have an 8 in both dresses.

Spring Stripes

Hey everyone, I have the best striped sweater to share with you today! I’ve already worn it several times and shared it on Instagram, but I also wanted to do a dedicated blog post about it because I think it’s one a lot of you will like. Happily, it’s still fully stocked!

Striped Sweater Outfit for Spring: Caslon Side Slit Sweater with Good American Good Legs High Waist Skinny Jeans and Stuart Weitzman Marabella Wedge Mules

It comes in a few solids, but I really love this striped print. The colors are so pretty for spring, and the material is thick enough to start wearing now, even if it’s still chilly in your neck of the woods.

That said, if you’re not a fan of stripes, the solid ivory and Navy Peacoat are great basics to have in your spring wardrobe, and that Blue Maui is absolutely gorgeous.

Striped Sweater Outfit for Spring featuring Caslon Side Slit Sweater

I’ve worn this sweater with white jeans and light wash denim, but for this look, I tried pairing it with dark wash skinnies. These are my Good American high waist skinnies, and I love them, but Wit & Wisdom has a similar pair for less if you’re looking for something more budget-friendly.

I like how the dark wash in the jeans draws out the navy stripes in the top, but it also creates quite a contrast against the white background of the sweater, and I feel like that highlights the fact that the sweater is a little too long on me. Otherwise I like the pairing a lot.

Striped Sweater Outfit for Spring: Caslon Side Slit Sweater with Good American Good Legs High Waist Skinny Jeans and Stuart Weitzman Marabella Wedge Mules

I’m wearing the small, and it seems to run slightly big, but I expect the sweater to take up some when I wash it and I hope that will help it fit better. It also comes in petite sizes for those of you who are 5’4″ or under. (I’m 5’5″, for reference.)

I wore two delicate necklaces to fill the v-neckline, and I added my double circle earrings. Unfortunately they just sold out in the gold, but they’re still available in silver.

Striped Sweater Outfit for Spring featuring Caslon Side Slit Sweater

I’m wearing blush wedge espadrille slides and carrying a blush colored bag because I like how they echo the pink in the sweater. My bag is old, but this one in the Pink Rosecloud is similar. Pink Dust is pretty too.

I picked up these wedges during the Shopbop sale. I had my eye on them for a while, and when I saw a chance to get them for 25% off, I took it. This brand just fits me so well, and the quality is outstanding. They’re currently 25% off at StuartWeitzman.com but they don’t have this Dolce color. The Adobe Beige is a great neutral, and the Dovetail Blue Grey is gorgeous. They also come in black.

Since they’re a splurge, I looked around and found a very similar pair by Caslon for under $100. You can see more of them in my Try On Haul yesterday. They’re comfortable, but they don’t fit as snug to the foot as the Stuarts, so my feet slide too far forward in them. There’s nothing worse than a woman wearing sandals where her toes are hanging off the end! Haha! That said, if you have thicker/wider feet, they will likely work for you.

I love this look for running around doing errands, working from home, or meeting a friend for lunch. It’s also nice for casual dinners out with the family, and that sort of thing. Or you could swap the jeans for pants and wear it to church or to work!

Coffee Talk + Try On Haul

Greetings, friends! I hope y’all are having a good weekend. Ours has been really nice. Paul got home on Friday after being gone on business all week, just in time to make our daughter’s jazz band performance. After that, we grabbed a bite to eat and caught up on the week’s events.

Yesterday was a pretty lazy day, and then I went out with a couple of girlfriends for happy hour and got caught up with them. Today is the usual Sunday stuff — church and lunch, and my son actually came home again for the weekend, so we have to get him back to college.

I have to laugh when I think back about sending him off to college. I remember saying we’d never see him except on holidays, but I think he’s been home more weekends than not. I went to college 800 miles away, so weekend visits were never an option for me. Even though our son chose a school close to home, I figured he’d be too busy to come home much, but I guess I was wrong! I don’t like being wrong, but I don’t mind being wrong about that.

Any-WHO. I’ve got some try-ons to share with you today. I didn’t want to wait till the 26 Days of Spring Fashion series is over — you know how fast things sell out — so I thought I’d go ahead and share them in today’s Coffee Talk. All details are below the pictures.

March Try On Haul: Everlane, Banana, Amazon, Nordstrom & Loft

Everlane just brought in a bunch of spring sweaters, so I placed an order. They were hit and miss, but I did find one clear winner!

Everlane The Texture Cotton V-Neck (size small; TTS) // I like the details in the knit and the pretty v-neckline, but I can’t get past the cut. It’s so short, and then with the side slits, yikes! I purposefully tried it on with high waist jeans because that’s really the only way to wear this sweater, and it’s still too short for my liking.

verdict: returning

also wearing: Citizens of Humanity Rocket Crop Jeans (size 30; size up!) and Sam Edelman Laurna Mules in Buff Nude Leather (size 7.5; size down half)

Everlane The Cotton-Linen V-Neck (size small; TTS) // Another cropped style, I love the linen/cotton blend for spring and this color is divine, but it’s a little shorter than my ideal, and I don’t care for the shallow v-neck. It looks masculine to me.

verdict: returning

AG The Farrah High Waist Raw Hem Ankle Skinny Jeans (size 29; TTS) // I’ve been wanting some white high rise jeans, and usually AG can do no wrong in my eyes, but these are too thin. I’m disappointed, as I really like the raw hem, and they’re super comfortable.

verdict: returning

Taryn Rose Faye Loafers in Clay (size 9; runs small) // I’ve shared these loafers before, but for anyone who missed them, they’re very comfortable. They have a padded footbed, and they’re flexible and lightweight. I wore them all over the mall one day last week, and my feet felt fine — didn’t get a blister or anything.

They do, however, run small. I originally sized up to an 8.5 to accommodate the pointy toe, but I had to send those back and go with the size 9.

Everlane The Soft Cotton V-Neck in Heather Grey (size small; TTS) // Cue angels singing!!! I’ll forgive them for the other two because Everlane nailed it with this sweater. Like, seriously, I’m considering getting the pink and blue… and I already ordered grey and navy. 🙈

I generally don’t buy duplicates, but this sweater is too good. I love, love, love the wide v-neck, and it’s the perfect length with the perfect amount of slouch. It’s also very soft and comfortable to throw on and go, and it retails for just $50.

For those unfamiliar with Everlane, they’re one of the most ethical, transparent companies out there, and I love supporting them and their mission.

verdict: keeping!

FRAME Le Color Crop Skinny Jeans (size 29; TTS) // Still searching for new white jeans that have a higher waist and aren’t see-through, and I came across these Frame skinnies. I don’t know how, but I got these for $82!!! They’re back to full price now, and I’m not sure how or why I got that deal, but I am so happy to report that I love these.

They’re definitely thicker than the AG pair, and the 9 1/2″ front rise is very comfortable. I also like the cropped length for spring and summer — although they don’t seem like 26″ on me, so I don’t know what to say about that.

I have another pair of Frame jeans in black that always slide down on me and drive me batty, so I’m hoping these white ones don’t do that, but I’m afraid they probably will. Still, they hold their shape and look great on, and as hard as it is to find white jeans that fit well and aren’t terribly see-through, plus with the amazing price I got on these, I think I can overlook a little slippage.

verdict: keeping!

Tory Burch Minnie Travel Flats in Goan Sand (size 8; TTS) // These shoes are also not new to most of you, but since I’m wearing them here, I’ll speak to their amazing comfort and versatility. Even though I’m finding myself gravitating towards pointy toe flats and loafers this spring, I love having one go-to pair of neutral ballet flats that I can throw on for

Everlane The Soft Cotton V-Neck in Navy (size small) // As I said, I ordered this sweater in navy as well as the grey, and I figured I should photograph both. The navy one seems to be slightly smaller and a tighter knit, even though I ordered the same size in both. All I can figure is the dye used for each color alters the knit a little bit? No matter, I love them both.

verdict: undecided…

I love it, but I might exchange it for the blue or pink. I definitely don’t need more than two of the same sweater, no matter how good it is.

Rag & Bone Raw Hem Ankle Skinny Jeans (size 28; size down if in between) // I’ve shared these before, but I want to review them again in case you missed them, plus they’re on sale now. I absolutely love these jeans. The fit is so flattering, the wash is amazingly good, and they’re thick and soft. It took me a while to warm up to them, though.

I first bought the size 29, but when I wore them for a photo shoot, I realized they were sliding down and looked long in the crotch. Alison agreed I should size down. Fortunately I hadn’t taken the tags off, so I sent them back and ordered the 28. They fit very snug at first, but I wore them all day Friday, and now they feel broken in and comfortable.

also wearing: Sam Edelman Laurna Mules in Buff Nude Leather (size 7.5; runs big)

I also placed a pretty big order with Banana Republic recently. Again, it was hit or miss, and I didn’t even take pictures of some of it, but here are a few pieces I really like.

BR Aire Boat-Neck Sweater (size small; TTS) // This sweater was a pleasant surprise. It’s very soft and stretchy and cozy, but the bright pink marl knit is so springy. It’s perfect for these cold spring days we’re having right now, and I wasted no time putting it to good use. I wore it all day Friday.

For size reference, you could size up for a more relaxed fit, but I have my usual size small.

verdict: keeping!

also wearing: Rag & Bone Raw Hem Ankle Skinny Jeans, Taryn Rose Faye Loafers in Clay (size up), and Madewell Holding Pattern Necklace

BR Floral Ruffle-Wrap Maxi Dress (size 8; TTS or size up if in between) // I want to love this dress. I have a couple of weddings coming up, and I think this would be perfect. I’m just not sure it’s the most flattering. It is from certain angles but not from others. I don’t know quite what it is, but I usually feel like that in dresses that have the fit and flare style.

Plus the ruffles are a little froo-froo for my personal style aesthetic, so I’m going to keep looking and maybe try a few sheath styles, which is more in my comfort zone. That said, I think it’s a great option for a lot of spring events.

Also, I appreciate that it has a little snap closure to help keep the wrap top modest.

verdict: undecided

BR Stripe Knit Dress (size small; TTS) // I think this could be really cute for casual days this summer. The column cut, high crewneck, and midi length creates such a long, lean look. And you just KNOW I’m going to throw a denim jacket on top!

I can see this dress with sneakers or wedge sandals, and it also looks good with these slides.

verdict: keeping!

Sam Edelman Bay Slide Sandals (size 8; TTS) // I’m really liking these leather sandals. They’re comfortable and cute, the footbed is padded, and the leather straps don’t cut into the foot anywhere. This color is called “light gold” but they read silver to me. I think I’ll be able to wear accessories in either tone, which is nice.

verdict: keeping

Stripe Ribbed T-Shirt Dress (size small; TTS) // I also like this t-shirt dress, but not as much as the sleeveless midi dress for some reason. I wish it had a different neckline. It’s cute, though, and the fabric isn’t see-through at all.

verdict: undecided

Sam Edelman Andy Slide Sandals (size 8; TTS) // These slides are really comfy and cute and fun for summer. They’ve got a cushioned footbed, and the leather on top isn’t rough at all. They’re easy to walk in, as well.

verdict: keeping!

Stripe Ribbed T-Shirt Dress (size small) // I also ordered this one in the navy to see which I like best. This time I paired it with a cognac wedge sandal for a slightly dressier vibe.

verdict: undecided

also wearing: Sam Edelman Andy Slide Sandals (size 8; TTS)

The next two pieces are from Amazon. Pardon my 3-day ponytail hair. Yoiks! It was a rainy day and I didn’t feel like doing my hair.

Bishuige Swimsuit Coverup (size small; runs small – I need a medium) // This is a swimsuit coverup, not a dress, but it’s really cute for either, except I wouldn’t wear a dress this short. It even has pockets. I think it’s really cute and easy and for $12, why not, right???

That said, I don’t think you can tell in these pictures, but it’s way too small. I definitely need a medium.

verdict: exchanging for medium

also wearing: Sam Edelman Andy Slide Sandals (size 8; TTS)

Alternative Women’s The Keepsake V-Neck (size medium; runs small) // Pardon the black bra, but at least you can see how see-through the shirt is this way, haha! It’s definitely more see-through than I prefer, but I find that thicker tees usually look frumpy, so I dunno… it’s a matter of preference, I suppose.

I heard good things about these tees, and I do like the cut and the fit, as well as the shape of the v-neckline. The material is soft and stretchy, but they run SUPER small. I’m in the medium, and I’d need to size up to a large if I hope to wash and dry it someday.

I do like fitted style for wearing under cardigans, though. I think that’s more flattering than the boxier styles that are so popular right now.

verdict: exchanging for a large

Finally, a few items from LOFT!

LOFT Dotted Flutter Drawstring Jumpsuit (size small; TTS) // I haven’t had a lot of luck with jumpsuits, but this one is actually sort of cute. It fits my 5’5″ short-waisted figure about as good as anything I’ve tried so far, and the polkadots are fun. I just don’t know where I’d wear it.

verdict: undecided

LOFT Fern Wrap Maxi Dress (size medium; runs small) // I had high hopes for this dress, but it’s cut way low under the arms, and the wrap top doesn’t quite close over the, ahem, bosoms. It really needs a snap or something there, but even so, I don’t think it would quite close properly on me. I ordered the small and the medium, and I believe I’m wearing the medium here. I definitely couldn’t wear a small.

Also, this dress is 40% off today!

verdict: returning

LOFT Striped Relaxed V-Neck Sweater (size small; TTS) // I thought this was such a fun spring sweater — it’s that perfect mid-weight, the scalloped v-neckline is pretty, and who doesn’t love black and white stripes!? It is not a soft sweater, though. It’s not itchy like some wool sweaters, but it is what I might describe as a bit rough. I can overlook it, but if you’re sensitive to fabrics, this might bother you.

Also, this sweater is 40% off today!

verdict: keeping

And here’s how it looks with white jeans… I’m a plain Jane, and would probably always pair it with black or white pants, but you could certainly wear it with colored pants or blue jeans.

Speaking of colored pants… this lavender pair is really fun!

LOFT Modern Let Down Hem Skinny Crop Jeans in Lilac (size 29; runs small for Loft) // I think these pants are super cute and flattering too. I love the released hem. After reading the reviews, I ordered the 29, and I’m glad I did because they are snug through the midsection. They look good in the legs, though, so I don’t think it will be a problem.

For reference, I typically wear a 28 in LOFT, and sometimes those even fit too big. So definitely size up one from your normal Loft size in these, if you order.

They are not currently on sale, but I’m sure they will be soon enough! I almsot never pay full price at Loft. I had to add “almost” because I did pay full price for that leopard vest, but I shouldn’t have. It didn’t sell out as anticipated, and it eventually went on sale.

All that to say, never pay full price at Loft. LOL!

Caslon Sally Wedge Sandal (size 7.5) // I ordered these suede wedge espadrilles so I could review them for you, and they’re really good — especially if you have thicker/wider feet than I do. My feet do slip forward a little too much, but that’s typical for me with this style of shoe. That’s why I splurged on the Stuart Weitzmans version, as they fit me much better (and the quality is nicer) but these are still great sandals for the price.

I did order a half size down from my normal size, which I often do in slide sandals because of my flat feet. If you have a more average shape foot or higher arches, you could probably go with your normal size.

also wearing: Everlane The Soft Cotton V-Neck in Heather Grey (size small; TTS)

And for comparison’s sake, here are the Stuart Weitzmans…

Stuart Weitzman Marabella Wedge Mules in Dolce (size 7.5) // I got these during the Shopbop sale, so I did manage to snag them at 25% off, which is always my goal when buying higher end designer pieces. They’re definitely an investment shoe, but I figure this classic style will be good for quite a few years, and they’re so versatile — a little more casual than most of my espadrille wedge sandals but you can still dress them up if you want to. Plus they just fit my feet better than anything else I’ve tried in this style, and I love the blush color.

verdict: keeping!

Okay, we’re in the home stretch!!!!

Finally, I ordered two pairs of shorts I ordered from Nordstrom…

Kut from the Kloth Gidget Cut Off Denim Shorts (size 6) // I’ve tried these before, but I wanted to show something similar to my pricey Citizens cut off shorts that I got on sale a few years back.

I know not everyone likes the cut-off look, and it is rather juvenile, I suppose, but I like how streamlined they are as compared to cuffed denim shorts. This wash is great for casual, but they also come in a darker wash if you prefer that. I’m wearing the 6, and they’re snug, but I predict they’ll stretch out some with wear.

verdict: returning, but only because I don’t need them

J.Crew Vintage Cotton V-Neck T-Shirt (size medium) // I’ve talked about this tee before, but I want to update my review now that I’ve washed and dried it. It shrinks up considerably, and it really needs an iron around the neckline if you’re going to wear it out of the house.

I have this tee in white and grey, and in the future, I think I’m going to lay them flat to dry and try to smooth out the neckline with my hands when it’s wet, and see if I can avoid using an iron. I’ll keep you posted.

verdict: keeping

also wearing: Sam Edelman Bay Slide Sandals in Light Gold (size 8; TTS)

JEN7 by 7 For All Mankind Roll Cuff Denim Shorts (size 8; TTS) // Bummer, but these have sold out. I like them, they fit well, aren’t too tight or too loose in the thigh, which is hard to find in shorts. and they’re comfortable.

The 4 1/2″ inseam is my favorite length, but I know not all women like their shorts this short. That’s a matter of personal preference, but I’ll definitely keep my eye on this brand in the future.

verdict: keeping!

also wearing: Everlane The Soft Cotton V-Neck (size small; TTS) and Sam Edelman Andy Slide Sandals (size 8; TTS)

And that’s a wrap for this week!

I always look forward to hearing your feedback on these try-on posts. I hope it was helpful!

The Perfect $30 Spring Cardigan

Happy Saturday, friends! If you’re a regular reader, this cardigan probably isn’t new to you, but I did want to feature it in a dedicated blog post because it’s so good! I wore it at Disney World, and I’ve already worn it a few more times since I’ve been home.

This is the perfect casual cardi for layering over a t-shirt or tank and wearing with jeans or jean shorts.

It’s made of a super soft jersey material, so it’s more sweatshirt than sweater, but it doesn’t look extremely casual either. It has a hood and pockets — both nice details. It really does look and feel more expensive than it is.

I have the rose, but it also comes in several other solids as well as a few marled and striped color ways. It also comes in a non-hooded version, if you prefer.

For size reference, I have the small. It definitely runs big, but I washed and dried it before I took these pictures, and it fits perfectly now, so I’m glad I didn’t size down to an XS.

I’ve worn this cardigan several different ways, but for today’s look I paired it with a white tee and wore cropped skinnies and white loafer mules.

I got my cropped skinnies last year during the Shopbop sale. They’re spendy, but I love the fit and feel, and I get a lot of wear out of them in spring and summer.

Because they’re not super skinny, I feel like these jeans give me the look of the cropped straight jeans that are trending, but they’re more flattering to my figure.

If you’re looking for cropped skinnies for less, this pair looks similar, and I also have and like this cropped straight pair at Loft.

I’m kind of obsessed with these white textured loafer mules, and they’re 20% off right now at Lord & Taylor. They’re a little stiff at first, but as I walked in them, they did start to loosen up. I think they will just take a little time to break in.

Loafer mules are one of the best transition shoes for spring. The open back is a little more up-to-date and feminine than the traditional loafer, but they are harder to walk in, so it’s a trade-off. If you’re not sure you want to commit to this shoe trend, Target has some nice looking loafer mules for less.

This crossbody is also a newer purchase. I’ve been wanting to add a white bag to my spring/summer wardrobe, and this one is perfect because it’s dressy enough to carry to church or out to dinner, but it’s not too much for an everyday look like this one.

The leather is buttery soft, and it has a nice microfiber lining. I got mine at Lord & Taylor, and it’s included in their buy more, save more sale — 20% off one item, 25% off two items, and 30% off three or more!

The day we shot this look, it was FUH-REEZING. Can you tell? My nose is even red, haha!

I can’t wait for the weather to warm up so I can start wearing this outfit for real. I have a feeling it’s going to be on constant repeat this spring.

Refresh Your Spring Makeup Routine with Kohl’s

Happy Friday, friends! Today I’m taking a detour from outfits to share some new beauty products I’ve been testing out from Kohl’s.

I’m calling it a detour because I still have some spring fashion, but the focus of the post is on the new beauty products I found that I want to share with you.

Kohl’s isn’t the first retailer to come to mind when I think of shopping for makeup and beauty products, so I was pleasantly surprised to discover that they actually have a strong beauty and fragrance department.

You’ll see familiar brands like Lorac, Pixi, Pur, Popsugar, and more. They also carry my beloved Simplehuman Sensor Makeup Mirror.

I actually got mine as a Christmas present from my mom, and I don’t know how I ever lived without it.

The magnification is perfect, and I rely on it now for precise makeup application. I also love how it simulates natural sunlight, so you can see what your makeup really looks like in the daylight.

One of the first products I put in my cart when I started shopping for this post was this Lorac Pro Palette With Mini Eye Primer. I was drawn to the mix of colors, and I’ve had fun experimenting with different combinations.

The colors are highly pigmented, and they go on smoothly. As an added bonus, it comes with an eye shadow primer.

I also ordered two lipsticks to try out — the Cargo Swimmables Matte Liquid Lipstick in Cape Town and the Lorac Alter Ego Lip Gloss in Godddess.

The Cargo matte lipstick was interesting — I put it on my arm to test the color, and I couldn’t get it to wipe off until I used an oily eye makeup remover. It definitely has staying power! That said, when I put it on my lips, I didn’t care for how dry it made my lips feel, so I ended up putting the Lorac lip gloss on top.

I typically prefer high gloss and moisturizing lipsticks, so the matte lipstick isn’t for me, but it did go on well and look nice. Personally, I preferred the Lorac. It’s very moisturizing, and the color I chose is pretty.

I put a call out on my Insta Story for some makeup recommendations at Kohl’s, and one of my friends said she swears by the Mally Beauty Perfect Prep Poreless Primer.

I also read good reviews on the Pur 4-in-1 Pressed Mineral Powder Foundation and Pur Airbrush Powder Foundation Makeup Brush, so I decided to try them all.

The primer is everything it claims to be and more. I love how easily it goes on and the way it instantly smoothes out my skin. It looks like it was airbrushed.

I was also pleased with the Pur mineral foundation, and I have to say, I’m quite impressed with myself for choosing a perfect match to my skin tone online.

I went with the color they call Light, and it was a really good match. I’m wearing it in all of these pictures. I like the brush a lot too. It made the application super easy, and it covers pretty good for a powder foundation.

It’s definitely something I’d use for more casual days and when I want lighter coverage, but it does a good job and looks very natural.

Lastly, the J by Jennifer Aniston Eau de Parfum is a really nice fragrance if you’re looking for something fresh and light. I’ve had it for several years, and it’s one of my favorites.

If you haven’t shopped Kohl’s for beauty and fragrance, it’s definitely worth a look! The convenience can’t be beat, and right now you can save 20% off beauty products at Kohl’s through March 31st, no code required. Plus get $10 off a $50 purchase across multiple women’s and junior’s categories using code STYLE10!

I’ve linked the outfit I’m wearing below, along with all the beauty products I shared in this post.

This stripe stitched hooded cardigan is a great little spring sweater. I love the details in the knit, and it’s comfortable and hits at a flattering length — just below the hips. I love this pink, but it also comes in cream, navy, and taupe. Also, these shoes are a great budget-friendly option for nude ballet flats.

Casual Spring Work Wear Look

I get a lot of requests for work wear looks, and while that’s not exactly in my wheelhouse, I try to stretch myself a few times each season and see what I can come up with.

I had fun putting this look together from Lord + Taylor. You’ll have to let me know how I did!

Spring Work Wear Look with Lord & Taylor

Lord + Taylor has a nice selection of wardrobe essentials and work wear basics, and right now you can save up to 30% off anything in-store or online through Monday, March 25th! It’s a great opportunity to stock up on basics or add a fun, trendy piece to your spring wardrobe.

This 3/4 sleeve knit sweater is a great spring basic, and it’s a L+T Fave — a collection of high quality customer favorites exclusive to Lord + Taylor.

It comes in a bunch of fresh colors for spring, and it has a classic fit with a slightly relaxed styling that makes it perfect for dressing up or down. It runs TTS (true to size); I’m wearing the small, for reference.

This Lucky Brand 3 chain necklace is a beautiful compliment to the crew neckline.

Spring Work Wear Look with Lord & Taylor

On the bottom, I’m wearing another L+T Fave — these high rise plaid ankle pants.

Plaid pants are trending this spring, and I like this subtle grey-on-blush print. They make a nice work wear piece, but they’re also practical enough for daily wear if you want an alternative to denim.

For size reference, I’m wearing the 8, but I think the 6 would look better.

Spring Work Wear Look with Lord & Taylor

These patent peep-toe wedges are great for ladies who can’t wear heels but want a little extra height, and the light natural color is super versatile. I like how it complements the pink and grey without being too matchy.

For a more casual weekend look, my white woven mules would be a nice alternative.

A denim jacket may not be appropriate for every workplace, but I think it makes a nice contrast against the light neutrals in this outfit.

This one is a cropped style, and it has a nice mid-indigo wash that goes with just about anything. I have the medium, for reference.

Spring Work Wear Look with Lord & Taylor

I’m thinking this look would be nice for teachers or those who work in more casual office environments, or even for church or conference type of venues. Let me know what you think!

And if you’re in the market for some spring wardrobe essentials, be sure to take a look through all of the L+T Faves while they’re up to 30% off!
