What to Wear to a Fall Bridal Shower

I’ve mentioned a few times that this is the year for weddings in our house. The girls and I were invited to a bridal shower for one of them last Sunday, so of course we were discussing what to wear on the way home from vacation.

Thanks to the Lord + Taylor First Look at Fall event, I had several new dresses waiting for me when we got home that were perfect for the event. I styled two for today’s post.

As I said last week, I’m at the point in the season where I want to buy things I can start wearing now and into fall, and both of these dresses are perfect for that. I ended up wearing this floral maxi dress to the shower on Sunday, and it worked out perfectly.

Florals grounded on a dark background are perfect for transitioning into fall.

For size reference, this dress is a small, but it’s pretty snug. I probably could use a medium, but I wanted to wear it on Sunday, so I made do. All that to say, I would recommend sizing up if you tend to run in between sizes.

I really like the shirred waist, and I think the floral pattern is so pretty. It also comes in yellow, but the black one is on sale for $89.25 and then it’s an extra 20% off that! (Use code SAVEBIG.)

The color of these Steve Madden ankle strap sandals is perfect with the florals in the dress. They’re called blush, but they’re more of a taupe.

They have a padded footbed and are quite comfortable to walk in, but they do have a 4″ heel, so bear that in mind. These are similar but with a 3″ heel, and they’re on sale for $41.30.

It was hot on Sunday, so I wore this dress on its own, but it would also be cute layered under a denim jacket or blazer when it cools off.

Another good option is this cap sleeve ruffle-trim dress. I was torn between the two for the bridal shower on Sunday, but I decided the floral was better for July. I love this eggplant color for late summer/early fall.

The ruffle detail on the skirt is so pretty and different from anything else I have, and it’s the perfect length for me at 5’5″. It’s true to size; I’m wearing the 8.

These Naturalizer ankle strap sandals have a 3’5″ heel, and I thought the rose-colored satin was such a pretty complement to the eggplant crepe dress.

This outfit could also be appropriate for a wedding or other semi-formal occasion, but I’d probably amp up the accessories for that type of event.

Lord + Taylor has a lot of pretty dresses on sale right now if you need something for an occasion later this summer or in the fall.

Shipping is free on orders over $99, and if you have Shoprunner, you can get free returns as well. Lord + Taylor also offers Buy Online, Pick Up In Store — a great option if you have a store that’s local to you.

5 Must Have Shoes for Fall #NSale

Last week when I was driving home from Maine, I put out a call on Instagram for questions. One of them was: What are you most looking forward to in the fall?

Immediately, without a moment’s hesitation, I responded: Boots and sweaters!

I’m a summer girl through and through, but I do love fall fashion, and the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is the perfect time to get ahead of the game and start stocking your closet for the best fashion season of the year.

Today I’m sharing my 5 must-have shoes for fall, and all of these are currently on sale. Yes, some are starting to sell out, but I’ve included other options for each category that are well stocked.

The #NSale is happening now through Aug 4th, so make sure to check it out before prices go back up. If you want to be one of the first to shop this sale next year, you can sign up for the Nordstrom credit card to receive perks like Early Access to the Anniversary Sale and more.

5 Must Have Shoes for Fall #NSale

#1. Ankle Boots // Ankle boots are hotter than ever, and there are so many options available from heels to flats, wedges to block heels, western styles to sock booties, and even open-toe and perforated styles that you can start wearing right away.

Madewell Ryder cardigan // similar cami // AG Prima jeans // Lucky Brand ankle boots // TB watch

I was excited to find these Lucky Brand wedge booties in the sesame suede. It’s such a great neutral, and they’re extremely comfortable (they have a padded footbed) and also water-proof.

The notched topline and layered detailing is a nice touch, and they come in a bunch of other colors as well as leopard and snakeskin.

Shop More Ankle Boots:

#2. Tall Boots // Whether they’re OTK or knee-high, tall boots continue to be an important fall wardrobe essential. I love tall boots for their warmth, plus they have a way of elongating and slimming that’s extremely flattering.

sweater // jeans // similar boots

My Vince Camuto OTK Boots are from last year’s #NSale, but this year’s pair is very similar — just updated with a slightly more rounded toe and a little more going on with the whipstitching detail. They also come in extended calf for tall girls.

These are nice because they have a 2″ stacked heel, making them super walkable. Nordstrom has a lot of other tall boot options, from casual to dressy, depending on your wardrobe needs. I’ll share some of my favorites below.

Shop Tall Boots:

#3. Stylish Sneakers // These days sneakers aren’t just for the gym — they can also make a chic fashion statement.

These Nike trainers were calling my name when I saw them in my local store, and I couldn’t stop thinking about them, so I went back and got them before we left for Maine.

I love the rose gold color and the sock-like fit. They’re super lightweight and well-padded — perfect for training sessions at the gym, long days of sightseeing, or chasing your kids at the park.

Here’s how I’d style them with boyfriend jeans and a sporty tee for casual wear.

t-shirt (sold out) // AG ex-boyfriend jeans // Nike sneakers (sold out) // watch

Shop More Chic Sneaks:

#4.  Animal Print // The hottest trend going this fall is animal print, and shoes are no exception.

These Jeffrey Campbell snakeskin booties were one of the first items that caught my eye in the #NSale preview catalog, and they did not disappoint!

sweater // jeans // booties // bag

I love the pink hues in the snakeskin print, and the goring angles on the sides. They feel great on, and the price is pretty nice too — during the #NSale, they’re under $100.

I styled them with skinny jeans and a neutral cowlneck pullover, but they will be an incredibly versatile piece in my wardrobe this fall. In fact, I can start wearing them now with shorts and skirts.

Unfortunately, they did sell out, but I’ll link up some more snakeskin bootie options as well as a few other animal print shoes from the #NSale below.

Shop More Animal Print Shoes:

#5. Statement Heels // I love a good pair of heels, and I’m excited about the variety of textures and prints available this fall.

These plaid pumps are a fun way to pop a neutral outfit, plus they’re very comfortable and walkable. They have a padded footbed and 3 1/4″ heel.

More One & Done Summer Dressing

Greetings, friends! Happy Monday! It’s good to be home after two weeks away, and today I’m teaming up with Walmart again to share some more “one & done” dressing — this time a more casual look.

I was so excited when this dress came in the mail and I slipped it on. It’s so cute and flattering, and the price is hard to believe!

I love the shape of the v-neck, the cap sleeves, and the side tie detail.

This v-neck tank dress is made of a cool rayon/spandex blend that skims the body, and the bold pink stripe is so fresh and summery. It also comes in black, and it runs true to size; I’m wearing the small.

Walmart really nailed it with this one. They’re out to be a destination for affordable, quality clothing, and they’ve definitely been upping their game.

I paired this dress with flat gladiator sandals and carried this straw pom pom tote.

This tote is so fun for summer, and it holds a ton. I love how the pom poms coordinate and contrast with the dress.

These sandals are cute and comfortable, and they come in wide sizes as well as regular.

This dress is so easy to slip on and go for so many summer occasions. I’d wear it to church, to meet a friend for lunch, to run out to the mall, or even to hang out at home… it’s so comfortable!

Outfit Details:

v-neck tank dress // gladiator sandals // pom pom straw tote // earrings // bracelets

Home Sweet Home 🏡 #CoffeeTalk

Coffee Talk + My Daily Looks

Greetings and good morning from the suburbs of Philly! It is sooooo good to be home!

We got up before dawn yesterday morning to drive home from Ipswich, Massachusetts — it’s a 6 hour drive with no traffic delays and no stops. We did well on time, the only delay being a busy rest stop on the Jersey Turnpike and my insistence on a Starbucks latte, and we arrived home right around lunchtime.

Savannah (our little rescue pup) was as happy to see us as we were to be home. We had a house/dog sitter staying here while we were gone, which worked out beautifully.

After we got reacquainted with our fur baby and unloaded the car, we all scattered to our various rooms to soak up the silence and solitude — we’re a family of introverts, for sure!

I think we were all a little bit done with the togetherness, although we did have a really nice time while we were away. To summarize for those not following along, we spent a little over a week with my parents in Maine at their home on Green Lake and then stopped in the Boston area for a few days on our way home.

In Maine, we did some hiking and sightseeing and spent a lot of time playing on the lake — sailing, paddle boarding, and towing each other on the Bandwagon.

lake fun in Maine on the Bandwagon

After that, we drove down to the North Shore of Massachusetts and stayed in an Airbnb for a few days.

The North Shore is a beautiful area, and it’s also where Paul and I met exactly 26 years ago. We took the girls over for a walk on Crane Beach the first night.

We spent one day in Boston, did a trolley tour, and walked a portion of the Freedom Trail.

The next day, we went over to Lexington to do some sightseeing and to have dinner with my aunt and her family who lives in the area. And then yesterday we drove home!

It was a long time to be away, and we’re all really happy to get back to some semblance of a normal routine… if there is such a thing in the summertime.

While we still have a whole month of summer left, the kids’ school activities are kicking off this week. R (my 8th grader) is super excited for middle school band camp, which starts tomorrow; and D (a sophomore in college) is going to working with the drum line at a local high school in the area. His first day is this week as well.

C (a junior in high school) doesn’t do any school-related extra curricular activities, and she is determined to eke out every last drop of summer vacation before her cyber charter school starts up at the end of August. She will resume piano and vocal lessons in September.

As for me, I’m happy to get back to regularly scheduled programming here on the blog. I need to get my head back in the game and start planning my August content. I have a few brand collaborations in the works, but not as many as I had in July.

From time to time, I see disparaging remarks about bloggers doing too much sponsored content (not from you guys — but around the ‘Web) and I do try to keep a healthy balance, but I also feel like those collaborations push me out of my comfort zone a bit and allow me to offer you guys some different shopping options from the ones I typically feature.

I’m actually trying to decide right now which retailers I want to continue working with. Some of them are a little off-brand for me personally, but I get a good response from a portion of you all when I feature them, and I’ve been debating about how to proceed going forward.

It’s a bit of a balancing act between being a personal style blogger and trying to stay true to myself, and wanting to be a helpful resource and provide a variety of options for you all as well.

I’m happy for constructive feedback — the brand collaborations you like, and the ones you don’t, and why.

At the end of the day, I know not everyone is going to like every post and I can’t be all things to all people, but it’s helpful to hear what resonates and what doesn’t.

I need to wrap things up here so we can shoot a look before church! Speaking of brand collaborations, Lord + Taylor asked me to do another post for their First Look at Fall before the end of the month, so I ordered a couple of dresses and had them shipped overnight so I could shoot today.

I haven’t even tried them on yet, but they look promising. Fingers crossed that they fit and I like them!

Meanwhile, if you’re interested in summer styles on sale, LOFT has 50% off their full price styles and Boden has 20% off their Heatwave Heros. I updated both pages in the Shop — see my Boden Favorites and my Loft Favorites. I ordered a few things from LOFT, so I’ll do some try-ons when those come in.

I need to update my other Shop pages, but I won’t be able to get to that until tomorrow.

And with that, I’m off to get ready for the day. I hope you have a relaxing and blessed Sunday!

Victoria Emerson Christmas in July Sale

Happy Friday, friends! We are wrapping up our 2-week summer vacay today. Today we’re heading over to Lexington and Concord for some of the historical sites and to visit with family who lives in the area.

I wanted to let you know about the Victoria Emerson Christmas in July Sale that launched yesterday and runs through July 29th. You can save up to 50% off site-wide! Wrap bracelets are all $19.99 and boho cuffs are $24.99.

We took some pictures yesterday before heading down to Boston for the day.

white tee // jeans // sandals // watch // wrap bracelet

This simple white tee and jeans outfit is instantly elevated by the addition of my new silver and white wrap bracelet and white marble watch (also on sale!)

This watch has a gorgeous marble face in a generous 36mm stainless steel case with a genuine leather band in a versatile shade of grey.

It’s water resistant and has a replaceable battery that lasts up to 10 years.

I love how the bands are interchangeable so you can have several different looks with the same marble face.

This wrap bracelet is the perfect complement, with the blue howlite beads and silver accents on white leather.

The engraved silver clasp is nickel-free, for anyone who may be sensitive, and it has several placements so you can get the perfect fit.

I have small wrists, so when I found the setting I like, I cut off the extra leather cord.

They also sent me this cool Rennes cuff with a leather cord and crystal and stone charms.

grey tee // jeans // sandals // tote // Rennes cuff c/o // three wrap cord bracelet c/o

I love the edgy vibe of this one, and the charms move around so you can adjust them how you like them. It also comes in white and black.

It has the engraved stainless steel clasp like all of her boho bracelets.

I always get questions about this clasp. It’s very dependable and holds really well, but if you have any concerns, all Victoria Emerson jewelry comes with a 100% satisfaction guarantee.

The Rennes cuff coordinates beautifully with this three wrap Korean waxed cord bracelet with the olive sky blue crystal beads and metallic accents.

I love how Victoria Emerson bracelets have enough weight to stand on their own, and also layer easily for more interest.

All of these pieces are great neutrals that are super versatile. They add a unique touch to any outfit, no matter how simple, and best of all, they’re all on sale through Monday, 7/29!

Lord + Taylor Fall Preview

Greetings from Ipswich, Massachusetts! The Maine portion of our family summer vacation is behind us, but we’re stopping for a few days in the Boston area to do some sightseeing and take the kids to see my alma mater.

While we still have a lot of summer left, it’s never too early to start planning your fall wardrobe, especially when you can find quality wardrobe staples on sale.

Lord + Taylor just launched their First Look At Fall event, and you can save up to 40% off next season’s must-have styles through Monday, August 5th, 11:59 PM EST.

When I’m shopping at this time of year, I like to purchase pieces that can do double duty. Ideally, I’ll be able to start wearing them now, and still get a lot of mileage out of them once the cooler temperatures set in.

This BlankNYC moto is made of a lightweight rayon blend so you can definitely wear it now and later. I really love the relaxed styling — it has a nice drape while still being somewhat structured.

For this look, I wore it with a graphic tee and a pair of mid-wash skinnies.

These are the Joe’s Icon Ankle Skinny Jeans, and the price is fantastic for premium denim. They have a 28″ inseam and a comfortable 9″ rise, and the fit is on point.

I love to wear a graphic tee with a jacket like this — it’s more interesting than a plain tee or blouse, and it’s a fun way to express your personality.

This tee kind of cracks me up. I guess every mama is a proud mama, right!?! At any rate, it seemed fitting.

For size reference, I have a small in the tee, a medium in the jacket, and a 29 in the jeans.

I also picked up this Fossil leather satchel to add to my handbag collection.

It’s a great everyday size, and the leather is so soft and supple. The vintage details give it a bit of a worn-in look, perfect for my more casual outfits.

These suede peep-toe sandals are another great now-and-later style that I know I’ll get a lot of mileage out of by buying them early in the season.

They’re extremely comfortable and walkable, with the elastic slingback closure and 2.75″ stacked heel. They also come in brown and taupe, but I chose black because I like how they work with this jacket.

This outfit is perfect for transition season, and each piece can be mixed and matched with other wardrobe basics to maximize their cost per wear.

I love this look — polished but a little edgy, casual and comfortable, while the shoes and jacket level it up for a variety of occasions.

Outfit Details:

BlankNYC moto // Proud Mama tee // Joe’s Icon ankle skinnies // Vince Camuto peep-toe sandals // Fossil satchel // similar pearl earrings

What To Pack for a Maine Summer Vacation

Greetings and happy hump day! I’ve had a few requests, so today I’m sharing what to pack for a Maine summer vacation, along with what I brought on our trip.

I always feel like a fraud when I create packing posts because I am probably the world’s worst over-packer. But hey! I always have all the options I need. When I try to pack light, I always end up regretting it.

Actually, I think I did a pretty good job this time — mainly because I didn’t bring anything for blog pictures, so I just packed for our vacation. Plus we’ve done this trip so many times that I pretty much have it down by now.

My parents have a home on a lake in the Bangor/Ellsworth area, so we take a family vacation up here almost every summer, and I’ve had lots of practice packing for this trip.

You can see more of my Maine posts through the years, and these are my best Maine vacation packing tips.

What To Pack for a Maine Summer Vacation

What To Pack for a Maine Summer Vacation

#1. Start with the shoes.

When packing for any destination, I always start with shoes. (See more expert packing tips from Mary Fowler.)

Your activities tend to dictate your shoes, so think through the activities you’ll be doing and select your shoes first. This single tip has made me a MUCH better packer.

Our Maine vacations are always very casual, and they often require some walking and/or hiking, so I packed my running shoes as well as my new Nike trainers. I didn’t really need both, but I prefer wearing the Nikes for sightseeing because they’re cuter. I wore my running shoes for running (duh) and also for hiking.

(Since publishing this post, I have purchased black running shoes that I can also wear sightseeing or on the plain with joggers or yoga pants. That way one pair of sneakers works for everything.)

What I wore to hike Schoodic Mountain, Maine

(I would also recommend hiking in activewear, not denim shorts and a cotton tank. I was drenched in sweat, and I would have been more comfortable in my running clothes, which is what I typically wear to hike.)

But back to shoes…

I wore my Tory Burch Miller sandals traveling up in the car, and I’ve worn them literally every day I’ve been here at some point. I also packed my Minnie travel flats in case I wanted a closed shoe option that’s nicer than sneakers.

You might also want plastic flip flops and/or water shoes, depending on your activities. Here at the lake, water shoes are a must if you plan to get in the water because it’s very rocky.

Also, more of an athletic sandal can come in handy up here — it really depends on your activities.

All the shoes I brought are neutral colors so they go with anything.

Shoes I Brought to Maine:

#2. Stick with neutral bottoms; bring a mix of shorts and pants.

In addition to all neutral shoes, I packed all neutral bottoms. This made putting outfits together super easy. (It also allowed me to pack almost any top I wanted without having to overthink it my outfits. I knew they’d all go with something.)

The weather in Maine is very unpredictable, and you need an assortment of pants and shorts.

I wore these jeans in the car and brought a second pair in my suitcase. We have a washer/dryer at camp, but I always air dry my jeans, which takes time — especially in humid weather. I don’t want to be without a pair if I need them, so I always bring two, and I’ve worn both.

Beyond that, I brought 3 pairs of denim shorts (2 blue; 1 white) as well as a pair of joggers for hanging out around camp.

I could have gotten by with one pair of blue jean shorts, but I wore my ripped up pair around camp and the other pair when I wanted to look a little nicer. I also wore the white ones a couple of times, so I’m glad I packed them all.

Shorts & Pants I Packed:

#3. Pack an assortment of summer tops.

Because my shoes and jeans were all neutrals, I could basically pack any of my favorite tops and know I had something to wear them with. I threw in a variety of summer tees, tanks, and nicer tops.

I laid them all out on the bed and tried to think about our typical Maine activities, and made sure I had at least one that is appropriate for each occasion.

We do have a washer/dryer at the lake house so I knew I could wash and re-wear some things, but I still packed quite a few tops. I’ve worn all but the navy linen tee, and I plan to wear it during the next leg of our trip in Massachusetts.

My Summer Tops:

#4. Be prepared for chilly mornings and evenings.

It can get quite chilly here in the summertime, so I always pack a few cardigans and sweatshirts.

I usually bring at least one long-sleeve pullover sweatshirt or sweater to wear with shorts — or jeans, if we get a cold snap. It’s been known to happen, but this visit has been warm most of the time.

This year, I packed this star sweatshirt, and I wore it on a rainy day with my white shorts.

What to pack for a Maine summer vacation - long sleeves and shorts are great for in between weather.

I also packed a couple of cardigans and a thin zip-up hoodie. I don’t usually bring two cardigans in addition to a hoodie, but it worked out because one of my daughters ended up borrowing one a few times.

I like to throw a cardigan on over my pajamas when I get up in the morning, and I also wear them over tees and tanks on chillier days. Even if it’s warm, I always bring one along on day trips in case it’s cooler on the coast or in a restaurant, or wherever we’re going.

Sweaters & Sweatshirts I Brought:

#5. Bring a large tote as well as a smaller bag for sightseeing.

This year I carried a mid-size shoulder bag as my purse and brought my large Everlane tote for all the extras — including my laptop and Kindle, charging cords, etc.

Usually I put all my purse items in the tote with my laptop and bring a small crossbody for sightseeing. Either way, it’s nice to have two options.

When we take day trips, I bring my tote in the car with all the things because I never know what I might end up needing, and I throw a crossbody bag inside so when we get where we’re going, I can put the essentials in the crossbody and carry that around town.

What to pack for a Maine summer vacation: layers are your friend!

Another good bag to have along is a lightweight backpack, especially if you plan to do hiking/biking activities.

In our case, my husband always carries the backpack so I don’t need one.

#6. Don’t forget a raincoat.

I always bring a lightweight rain jacket with me to Maine because it usually rains for several days, and I hate being wet and cold. That’s also why I packed the Minnie flats — to have a closed shoe option that’s nicer than a sneaker.

We lucked out this trip and didn’t have a ton of rain. The two days that were rainy, we stayed inside, but I think this is my first summer Maine vacation that I haven’t used my rain jacket.

Miscellaneous Add-Ons:

Beyond all of that, I packed two pairs of pajamas — short ones and long ones. Again, when going to New England in the summertime, you have to be prepared to be cold or hot or anywhere in between. I’ve worn both.

I also packed a bathing suit and my running clothes.

A baseball hat is always good to have for hiking (and for throwing on when you don’t want to fix your hair. Ha!)

I try to keep my jewelry simple. On the trip up, I wore silver studs, my silver link bracelet, and a silver pendant, and I wore a combination of those just about every day. I also brought pearl earrings and silver hoops, as well as a few gold bangles and gold drop earrings, but I didn’t really need them.

Of course, toiletries and sunscreen are a given. Oh, and bug spray! FYI, my T3 travel dryer is on sale at Hautelook!

I think that about covers it.

What to Pack for a Maine Summer Vacation

The main thing to remember when packing for a Maine summer vacation is that you will have a variety of weather conditions, and you want to be prepared for all of it — heat, cold, rain, wind, etc. Since you need a lot of options, keep it simple and make sure everything goes together so you can mix and match.

If you have any questions, I’m happy to answer in the comments!

18 Ways to Wear White Jeans for Spring and Summer

White jeans are one of my go-to spring and summer wardrobe staples, but I’m always amazed by how many women don’t wear them. When I inquire, they usually say it’s because they’re are afraid of getting them dirty.

Friends, white jeans wash!!!

Please, don’t fear the white jeans. They make such a crisp statement this time of year, and you can wear them with pretty much everything.

To illustrate my point, I’ve rounded up 18 ways to wear white jeans for spring and summer.

My all-time favorite white jeans are my Paige Verdugo ankle skinny jeans but unfortunately they’ve been discontinued. The Paige Hoxton is similar but with a higher rise. I also really like the Madewell 9″ high rise skinnies — they’re even thicker than the Paige, and the price point is better. For a more budget-friendly alternative, Old Navy does a good job with their mid-rise Rockstar super skinny jeans.

If you don’t wear skinny jeans, you can substitute straight leg or bootcut white jeans for any of these looks, and white pants will usually work as well.

18 Ways to Wear White Jeans for Spring and Summer

In the interest of space and time, I’m not going to link everything I’m wearing in these pictures, but I will provide links to the original posts where you can see all the outfit details. Some are older so not everything is in stock, but the idea here is to recreate these looks by shopping your closet.

#1. Black & White Print Blouse with Turquoise Pumps // A simple date night outfit, or this could even be work wear for some situations. Any colored shoe will do — and even white or nude would work, but I love the unexpected pop of color.

#2. White on White with a Pastel Layer on Top // For some reason, I often forget about white on white, but it’s such a chic combination. I especially like it with a pastel layer on top — like this kimono, or a solid cardigan would also work.

Here’s an example with a blue cardigan:

#3. Blue & White Stripes // A blue-and-white striped top will always look fresh and classic when paired with white jeans. I like how the navy blue shoes bookend the outfit, but you could also wear nude or white.

#4. Black & White with Pink Sandals // Again, black and white with a pop of color always works. This time I echoed the pink from the shoes in a pair of bold pink earrings.

#5. Hot Pink + White // Nothing is as summery as hot pink paired with white, and I love how these neutral sandals ground the look. This peplum top is still available, and it also comes in navy.

Here’s another cute look with a pink top and white jeans.

#6. Blush Tee with Floral Neck Scarf // This outfit is super simple, but the silk scarf elevates the look. I like the pastel color palette, but you can certainly do this with brights or jewel tones as well.

#7. Olive Utility Jacket with Grey Tee // You can never go wrong with an olive utility jacket over a grey tee — I often wear this combo with blue jeans, but I love how it works with the white. I wore booties because it was early spring, but sneakers or sandals would also work with this look.

#8. Varsity Tee & Converse // This sporty look is great for sporting events, your kid’s soccer game, or just running errands on a Saturday.

#9. Coral & White // This classic combo is super summery; in this case I made the look a little more modern by wearing white kick flares instead of my usual skinnies.

#10. Grey & White with White Loafers // Love ’em or hate ’em, white loafers are the easiest way to update your wardrobe this spring! If you hate ’em, feel free to wear ballet flats, sandals, or even Converse with this look. The twist front top is a nice alternative to a plain t-shirt.

#11. Blue & White Polka Dots // Another classic blue-and-white combination, this time I wore nude sandals for a dressier look.

#12. Olive & White with Leopard // I usually pair olive with black, but I love how it looks with white this time of year. The leopard shoes are a fun touch, and if you don’t have leopard loafers, ballet flats, pumps, or sandals would work just as well.

#13. Floral Blouse & Wedge Sandals // This blouse is sold out, unfortunately, but the idea here is to find a floral print to pair with your white jeans. Florals are trending this season, but choose wisely; they can be aging if they’re too reminiscent of the 1980s.

Here’s another similar look I’ve worn this summer with a yellow floral blouse from Old Navy.

#14. White with Chambray // Always a classic combo; I love the gold sandals and accessories with this look.

#15. Grey & White with Espadrille Wedge Sandals // Another grey-and-white combo, I love the monochromatic look. A ruffle sleeve tee is a fun variation on a basic t-shirt, and the espadrille wedge sandals keep it modern.

#16. Yellow + White with a Denim Jacket // Yellow is trending this season, and I love it paired with white and denim for a fresh, summery vibe.

#17. White on White with a Denim Jacket // One of the easiest ways to do white jeans with items I’m sure you already have in your closet — white tee with white jeans, and top it off with a denim jacket. Add a pair of whimsical shoes for fun!

#18. White and Teal // I think this post illustrates that any color top paired with white jeans works — the key is proper fit, and then choosing accessories and shoes that level up the look and keep it modern.

Also, look for tops with little added details such as the lace insets on this one.

Boden Linen Voop Tee in Ultramarine with Madewell 9" Mid-Rise Skinny Jeans in Pure White and Sam Edelman Regis Platform Wedge Sandals

Whew! I hope that gives you some summer style inspiration for ways to wear white jeans. Believe it or not, I have even more white jeans outfits in my blog archives, but these are my favorites and the ones most easily recreated by shopping your closet.

#NSale Best of Beauty Exclusives

While the initial hype is dying down, Nordstrom Anniversary Sale continues through August 4th, and the one area I tend to neglect (but shouldn’t) is their Beauty Exclusives. These are some of the best values in the #NSale.

Today I’m rounding up my favorites and the ones I think are the best deals.

Best of #NSale Beauty Exclusives

#NSale Best of Beauty Exclusives

The beauty exclusive duos and jumbo sizes are arguably the best values of the #NSale. Many of these cult favorites that almost never go on sale are buy one, get one free, or available in a jumbo size at a deep discount. It’s a great time to stock up on products you are loyal to and know you will use up.

Kiehl's Since 1851 Jumbo Creme de Corps Bottle with Pump

Kiehl’s Jumbo Creme de Corps Bottle with Pump // Case in point, this Kiehl’s body lotion. If you’re looking for an amazing body lotion that has no scent and keeps your skin moisturized all day, you will love Kiehl’s Creme de Corps. This 33.8 fl. oz. size will last you a year, and the price can’t be beat.

I also love the Kiehl’s hand salve, which is discounted for the #NSale as well — I keep one of these in my purse at all times.

And if your man is a fan of their Body Scrub Soap, Facial Fuel (also in a duo), or Body Fuel, those are included too.

ALTERNA Caviar Anti-Aging Set

ALTERNA Caviar Anti-Aging Set // I don’t use this, but I know some people love it. If you’re a fan, you’ll want to take advantage of this offer.

Sale: $72.00 ($114 Value)

La Mer The Soothing Collection

La Mer The Soothing Collection // If you’ve ever wanted to try La Mer, or if you want the perfect travel size set, this is an amazing deal. They also have a smaller Mini Miracles introductory kit that’s part of the #NSale, and if you’re a La Mer loyalist, the grande sized Crème de la Mer Moisturizing Cream is $367 off.

Sale: $360.00 ($475 Value)

neuLASH® Lash Enhancing Serum Duo

neuLASH Lash Enhancing Serum Duo // I’ve never used this, but I’ve heard great things, and during the #NSale it’s basically buy one, get one free. RevitaLash is also available in a duo.

Sale: $95.00 ($190 Value)

beautyblender All That Glitters Makeup Sponge Set

beautyblender All That Glitters Makeup Sponge Set // I ordered this mainly because I wanted the storage case, but my beautyblenders are all pretty beat and ready to be replaced. This also makes a nice gift or stocking stuffer. Teens love these.

Sale: $35.00 ($54 Value)

Lancome Lash Must-Haves Set

Lancome Lash Must-Haves Set // I’m a Lancome mascara loyalist, and this is a really good deal if you want to try several of their products. Also, their Bi-Facil eye makeup remover is wonderful, and this small size is perfect for travel.

Sale: $59.50 ($98 Value)

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Duo #NSale Beauty Exclusive

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Duo // I love my Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz, so I ordered this set with the clear brow gel to try that out as well.

Sale: $25.00 ($43 Value)

MAC Up Close and Personal Lip Kit #NSale Beauty Exclusive

MAC Up Close and Personal Lip Kit // The Charlotte Tilbury lip kit sold out, but MAC is my 2nd favorite — in fact, I use their LipGlass over top of my Charlotte Tilbury lipstick. This set comes in a nude and a pink.

Sale: $36.50 ($54 Value)

T3 Cura Hair Dryer

T3 Cura Hair Dryer // I have the old T3 hair dryer, but this new Cura is supposedly even better. It dries my hair so fast, but it’s also gentle on delicate hair.

Sale: $155 ($235 Value)

T3 Grey SinglePass 1 Inch Luxe Styling Iron

T3 Grey SinglePass 1 Inch Luxe Styling Iron // If you’re looking for a good quality flat iron that really works and is gentle on your hair, you will love this one. I have it, although my daughter uses it more than I do so I finally let her keep it in her bathroom.

Sale: $120.00 ($180 Value)

Antica Farmacista Prosecco Home Ambiance Perfume

Antica Farmacista Prosecco Home Ambiance Perfume // I’m not sure why this is included in their Beauty Exclusives — it seems more of a Home product to me, but I bought this last year during the #NSale, and I love it; I keep it in my powder room. It’s almost gone, so it basically lasted me a year. Needless to say, I just ordered another. (I have the 8.5 oz. size.)

Sale: $44.00
After Sale: $66.00

There are lots more, and many of them are only a value if you’re already a loyal consumer because the sizes are so large, so definitely peruse all the Beauty Exclusives to see if any of your favorite products are included.

Coffee Talk 07.21.19

Greetings from Maine! We’ve had a great first week. For the most part, the weather has been gorgeous, and we’ve had lots of time to relax, play games, eat lobster, and all the vacationy things.

I don’t have long to chat because we’re headed out early this morning, so I thought I’d share a few pictures.

We still need to get a decent family picture… I hope to do that before we leave.

Also, one more thing! Everlane is running a special sale on their day market tote — today only it is just $125! (It’s normally $175.)

The sale ends at midnight tonight EST. Tap the picture below to shop. I’m adding this info from my phone and can’t figure out how to make a text link  🤦🏻‍♀️

Sorry this is so short, but I don’t want to hold everyone up. We’re trying to get out for a hike before it gets too hot.

Have a good one!

Paul’s Picks: Best of Men’s #NSale 2019

I’ve been promising my Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Men’s Picks for DAYS and I’m finally getting around to posting it!

Paul has really good taste when it comes to men’s fashion, and contrary to popular belief, I do not dress him.

The funny thing is, when we were newly married, he hated shopping. He was thrilled when I would come home with clothes for him because that meant he wouldn’t have to brave the mall.

Somewhere along the way, I guess my love for shopping rubbed off on him. These days, he is happy to accompany me to the mall, and he does all of his own shopping. He actually follows some men’s fashion forums to stay up to date on trends, even though like me, he’s a bit of a slow adopter.

He joined me at the pre-shop day of the #NSale and picked up a few things. Most of his pants are being hemmed so we didn’t photograph any of his looks yet, but we’re hoping to do that eventually.

Paul’s dress code at work is casual, and our church is very casual, so he pretty much lives in jeans or khakis and button-down shirts. In the winter, he usually adds a sweater.

Paul’s Picks: Best of Mens #NSale 2019

Below is a combination of what Paul bought, some of his favorites from Nordstrom’s men’s department, as well as a few things that caught my eye as I was perusing the site.

Scroll right to see more…

Men’s #NSale Shirts & Sweaters

Paul wears a lot of button-downs and sweaters, so that’s mostly what we’re including here, along with a few polos.

Men’s #NSale Pants

Bonobos are Paul’s all-time favorite chinos, but unfortunately they don’t have classic neutrals in the #NSale. He just bought two of the AG Everett SUD slim straight fit pants, and we’re waiting to get them back from tailoring. They’re a nice hybrid between pants and jeans.

Men’s #NSale Denim

I’m not going to write captions for all of these because so many are similar, just different washes. If you’re looking to update your husband’s denim wardrobe, styles are slimmer and shorter these days. Paul’s favorites are the AG Everett and the AG Graduate — both are a slim straight style.

Yes, he’s a fan of premium denim too! He used to always complain that jeans were uncomfortable, and I finally drug him into the Nordstrom men’s department and forced him to try a pair of 7 For All Mankind. He was sold hook, line, and sinker.

He could not get over the difference in comfort, plus he admits they look better too.  He has worn different brands over the years, but most recent favorites are AG.

Men’s Shoe Picks

This is a mix of casual and dressy options.

Misc Men’s Picks

I just threw the rest of my men’s picks in here. Also don’t forget to stock up on basics like socks and underwear.

Spend vs. Save: Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Edition

Happy Friday, friends! Public Access for the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale opens today at 12:30 PM EST both online and in stores, so I thought I’d do a Spend vs. Save post for you today. I’m going to do my best to feature items that are still stocked, but of course that can change very quickly.

By way of reminder, you can click here to see all of my #NSale coverage, and if you want to keep tabs on restocks and other #NSale news, join us in my #NSale Insiders facebook group!

Also, congrats to Kathy and Dina, the two winners from my Nordstrom Gift Card giveaway!!! Both have claimed their price and received their gift cards.

Before I dive into my Spend vs. Save roundup, here are my best tips for shopping the sale today.

My Best #NSale Public Access Shopping Tips

#1. Get online RIGHT AT 12:30 PM EST.

Every minute really does count if you’re hoping to snag something specific.

#2. Start making your Wish List NOW.

You can add the things you want to your Nordstrom Wish List now, and then when Public Access opens, log in to your Nordstrom account, find your Wish List, and add things to your cart.

Or, make a list of links in a Word doc or email, and at 12:30, start clicking and adding to cart.

#3. Check out early and often.

People in my #NSale Insiders Facebook Group who ordered one or two items at a time have had better luck receiving their orders without cancellations. It is the larger orders that are delayed the longest, and those are getting the most cancellation notices.

#4. Order multiple sizes.

If they’re available, and you’re at all in doubt, order 2 sizes in case one doesn’t fit. Or if one gets canceled, the other might work out.

#4. If you’re waiting for restocks, keep a list of links and check back regularly.

As I’ve said before, I predict a LOT of returns and restocks this year because people are wising up and ordering multiple sizes, and also ordering more than they really want to keep.

A lot of people haven’t even received their orders yet from last Friday, so more returns (and restocks) will be happening as the sale goes on.

Okay… now for the fun part! You guys always seem to like Spend vs Save posts, so I thought I’d do one for the #NSale this year.

Spend vs. Save: Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Edition

Spend vs Save Nordstrom Anniversary Sale #NSale 2019

Pullover Sweaters:

Spend // This Vince turtleneck is gorgeous, and I’ve been stalking the green in the size small all week, to no avail. I also love (and purchased) this dark blue Vince rolled hem hoodie (FULLY STOCKED!) The luxe meets sporty vibe is perfect for my casual lifestyle, and the quality is superb. Both are TTS for Vince; I wear the small.

Save // This Caslon turtleneck is super soft and cozy, and I love the exposed hem details. It comes in a bunch of colors, and stock is limited but fluctuating daily. It runs big, as Caslon typically does, but I have it in the small. I could possibly wear an XS, but I prefer the looser fit of the small.

Shoulder Bag:

Spend // This is more of a splurge, but I think it’s so gorgeous, and I just had to include it. If I needed another tote, I would definitely get this. It has a divided interior, for those who like to stay organized, and a nice big interior slip pocket for your smartphone. I also love how the logo part is just on the sides.

Save // This is a super save version, for just $33, but I wanted to give you all a non-leather option. This bag is such a classic. I love the minimalist styling, and both colors are really nice for fall.

For a more mid-price shoulder bag that’s still in stock, I love this slouchy Rebecca Minkoff hobo, and I think these two croc embossed leather totes are so elegant. Plus their prices are fantastic.

Cardigan:

Spend // This extra long fine-gauge cardigan is elegant and luxe. Another cardigan option in the “spend” category that I really like is this Nordstrom Signature ribbed cashmere sweater.

Save // For a more casual vibe, this v-neck cardigan with the large contrasting buttons looks really fun. I also really like this similar one by J.Crew, and also this Treasure & Bond open cardigan.

Then this Leith long line cardigan is a little dressier and also really good. It has a slim fit and a ribbed texture and side slits — very flattering.

Denim:

Spend // I’ve been enjoying these AG Prima cigarette leg ankle jeans for a change from my usual skinnies. They have a wider leg opening than my skinny jeans, so they read more like a straight. I like them best cuffed for more of a cropped look. The wash is so good, and they’re super soft and comfortable. For size reference, I went with a 29.

Save // This Kut from the Kloth pair is very similar but more budget-friendly.

Wrist Watch:

Spend // This is definitely a splurge, but for anyone who has been wanting a Michele watch and has the budget, this is the time to snag it!

Save // This is the watch I purchased from the #NSale this year, and I’ve been enjoying it. It’s more delicate and a little dressier than the TB watch I got last year, so I will wear them for different purposes.

Ankle Boots:

Spend // Aquatalia does waterproof suede like no other, and these booties are gorgeous. If you’re in the market to splurge, I highly recommend them.

I really wanted to love these Vince booties, and they are amazing quality, but when I tried them on in store, I didn’t like how they fit my flat/narrow feet. They looked too big around the shaft opening. If you have a higher arch, or wider feet, you may really like them. They’re lined with the softest, most luxurious leather. So good!

Save // For a budget-friendly bootie, these are really good. I love the shape and the simplicity — they’re classic and versatile.

For a more in-between price point, these Blondo waterproof suede booties are gorgeous and super comfortable, and I have and love these Lucky Brand wedge booties (also waterproof suede.)

Crossbody:

Spend // I think this flap saddle bag is so cute, and the size is perfect for carrying just the essentials.

Save // This bag is leather but under $100, and it looks very practical and roomy for a smaller bag. You get a lot of bang for your buck with Nordstrom brand bags because you’re not paying any extra for a logo or brand name.

My favorite crossbody in the sale is this Rebecca Minkoff feed bag, and I cannot believe it is still in stock. The price point is fantastic for the quality, and it’s super practical with an outside slip pocket for your phone and a long, adjustable strap.

Winter Coat:

Spend // This hooded parka is another one of my personal #NSale purchases, and if you need a long puffer coat for cold winters, I highly recommend it. It is such good quality, very flattering (or as flattering as a puffer coat gets), and super warm.

Save // This packable parka is similar in style, but the price point is a little more palatable. I doubt it’s as warm as The North Face, but if you don’t have super cold winters, or you want something for in-between weather, this one is a good pick. I also like that it’s packable.

Tall Boots:

Spend // In my opinion, these Frye boots are one of the most underrated picks in this year’s sale. I am surprised more bloggers aren’t featuring them. If I needed them, I’d have snapped them up first day. Frye boots are amazing quality, the leather lining inside is so luxe, and this style is a classic. They will last you at least 10 years.

Save // There weren’t many boots in the “save” price range, but these Born boots are a good bang for your buck. Others in this price range include these Vince Camuto knee high boots, these Sam Edelman dress boots, and these Blondo suede knee high boots. Also these Vince Camuto OTK boots are really cute on and very comfortable.

In Conclusion

I hope this post is helpful as you continue to navigate this crazy sale. It truly does get more insane every year, although I think this year was better with the staggered opening.

That said, there have been a lot of cancellations, delays in shipping, and inventory shortages; but I truly believe Nordstrom is doing the best they can with the volume of sales they’ve had. My best advice is to be patient, keep a list of links to the items you’re looking for, and check back regularly.

If you claimed a Double Points Day last Friday, and your order was cancelled, you can have the Double Points Day returned to you. Just contact customer service. I find their Live Chat to be the easiest way to contact them.

I hope this helps! As always, I’m happy to answer any questions in the comments.

Also, I had some questions about how affiliate links work, so I thought I’d share a little more about that.

A Word About Affiliate Links

I’ve had a lot of questions about how to best support my business through this sale, and how affiliate links work.

I make a small commission when you click a link and make a purchase from my blog, emails, or Facebook.

You do not spend a penny more than you normally would, and it helps me provide all this information to you for free. Affiliate commissions, sponsored posts, and ads are how I support this blog and am able to do this as my full time job.

Here’s how affiliate linking works:

#1. The last link you click before you make your purchase at a given retailer trumps all other links.

If you follow other bloggers, you may be clicking on their links as well. The computer only counts the last click, so if you add 10 things to your cart from my site, go to another site, and add one thing from theirs, they get the commission for the entire sale.

This doesn’t mean I’m asking you to shop any differently than you normally would. The system is intended to work organically — meaning you should shop as usual and let the chips fall where they may.

That said, several people have told me they very much want to make sure I get credit for the items they found through me, and they were under the impression that I get credit for all the products they buy from my site. Unfortunately, that’s not how it works.

If you want each blogger to get credit for her recommendations, you would need to check out separately after shopping from each blog, but I am NOT asking you to do this. I just want to explain how it works for those who were wondering.

#2. When you shop through the Nordstrom App, we do NOT earn commissions.

If you want to support your favorite bloggers, shopping through the website (not the app) is best.

Again, I am NOT asking you to do this. Please shop the way it works best for you. I just wanted to give accurate information to those who are wondering how it all works.

I hope that cleared up any confusion or misconceptions about affiliate links.
