ISO The Best White T-Shirt {2020 White T-Shirt Review}

Greetings and salutations! I am super excited to reveal my 2020 White T-Shirt Review!

I went in search of the perfect white tee, and I tried 20 white t-shirts ranging in price from $9 to $90. Yes, you read that right. TWENTY!

White T-Shirt Review - I tried 20 T-Shirts for 2020 and I'm sharing the best white t-shirts for women!

Spoiler alert: There really is no perfect white tee.

But I did find some good ones, and a few that I’m keeping.

For comparison purposes, and in the interest of keeping this review somewhat objective, these are all short-sleeved v-neck t-shirts. Many also come in crew neck or scoop neck options, if you prefer.

With all of these white tees, I’m wearing my Veja Esplar sneakers and the Rag & Bone Shredded-Hem Ankle Skinny Jeans in Flint. They run TTS, and they’re currently 25% off at Bloomingdale’s.

2020 White T-Shirt Review

Sizing Note: I’m 5’5″ and a 32G, and I typically wear a small in tops and sweaters.

I’ll do my best to give guidance on sizing, but it’s hard with t-shirts because whether or not to size up depends largely on chest size. If in doubt, I recommend ordering two sizes and returning the one that doesn’t fit.

White T-Shirt Review - I tried 20 T-Shirts for 2020 and I'm sharing the best white t-shirts for women!

When it came to structuring this white t-shirt review, I struggled whether to organize by price point or in order of my favorites. I asked my Facebook Group for their preference, and most everyone wanted me to rank these white t-shirts by which I liked best, but that turned out to be easier said than done because there are so many variables.

I ended up doing a Save/Spend/Splurge post, and within each segment, I ordered the t-shirts from my least to most favorite.

Okay, let’s get this party started! Links and descriptions are beneath each set of pictures.

White T-Shirt Reviews: Save (Under $25)

Amazon Essentials Classic-Fit Short-Sleeve V-Neck T-Shirt

Amazon Essentials Classic-Fit Short-Sleeve V-Neck T-Shirt (2 for $19.50) // This tee is very soft and stretchy, and slightly thicker than some of the others I tried. It’s also longer than most. The v-neck is a little higher than I like, but that may be preferable to some. It comes in a set of two, but you can choose from several color combinations. (Here’s the crewneck version, if you’re interested.)

Fabric: 56% Cotton, 38% Modal, 6% Spandex

Pros: The fabric is on the thicker side, and this tee has a lot of stretch to it. It has a more feminine trim around the v-neck, which is a nice touch if you prefer a more refined tee.

Cons: Just like the Gap tee, this tee is very boxy and doesn’t have much drape. It pulls over my chest and bunches through the mid-section. The sleeves are wider and not very flattering either.

Sizing: I’m wearing the small, and I’d say it runs true to size. I need more room in the chest area, but the rest of it fits about right.

Gap Vintage Wash V-Neck T-Shirt

Gap Vintage Wash V-Neck T-Shirt $19.95 (on sale for $12) // While this white tee meets some of my criteria — straight hemline, no boob pocket, modest but flattering V-neckline; it doesn’t fit or flatter very well. That said, the quality is decent, and it seems like a good value for the price. It’s a little on the longer side, for those who like that. (Here’s the crewneck version.)

Fabric: 100% cotton

Pros: The v-neck is a nice shape and not too low-cut, the sleeve length and shape are typical for a traditional white tee — not too short or too long, not too tight or too wide. It’s 100% cotton, and it’s a medium weight and not see-through.

Cons: This tee has a very boxy cut, so it’s tight over the chest and bunches through the midsection. There’s nothing special about it, no details to set it apart, and the fabric is very plain.

Sizing: I’m wearing the small, and I’d say it runs true to size. This tee also comes in tall and petite sizes.

Madewell Whisper Cotton V Neck Pocket Tee

Madewell Whisper Cotton V Neck Pocket Tee ($19.50) // I have one of these tees from last year, but I ordered a new one for the purpose of this review. It’s on the thinner side and has a split hem, but it’s cut the same length all the way around. (Here’s a link to the crewneck version.)

Fabric: 100% cotton

Pros: This tee has a little more style than the Gap and Amazon tees reviewed above, with the split hem and flattering V. I also like the 25.5″ length, and it has a nice slub texture and a decent drape. There is a good range of sizes for this tee, including plus sizes.

Cons: My biggest complaint is the boob pocket. I do not need attention drawn to this area, thankyouverymuch. It also fits on the boxier side, and it may be too thin for some.

Sizing: I’m wearing the small, and I’d say it runs true to size. I need more room in the chest area, but the rest of it fits about right.

Universal Thread Relaxed Fit Short Sleeve V-Neck T-Shirt

Universal Thread Relaxed Fit Short Sleeve V-Neck T-Shirt ($8) // This tee is thicker than some, but it’s stiff and boxy. The arms are cut a little wide, but the v-neck is a nice shape. (Here’s the crewneck version.)

Fabric: 100% cotton

Pros: This tee is a little thicker than some, and it’s a great price. The v-neck is a nice shape, and the trim makes it a little more refined.

Cons: The material is rather stiff, and the cut is very straight. There’s no drape, and it bunches through the middle.

Sizing: I’m wearing the small, and I’d say it runs true to size.

LOFT Everyday V-Neck Tee

LOFT Everyday V-Neck Tee ($24.50; currently 29% off + 10% off) // I wanted to like this tee. It’s a decent thickness, has an okay drape, and the v-neckline is flattering. But the boob pocket. Oy!

Fabric: 100% cotton

Pros: This tee is a nice thickness, it has a straight hemline, and it’s a good average length. The v-neck is flattering and not too low-cut. Also, there are some plus sizes available.

Cons: The price is a bit high for what it is, but LOFT runs sales often, so I would try to get it for 40% off. The boob pocket is a deal breaker for me; otherwise, this is a pretty solid choice for a white v-neck tee.

Sizing: I’m wearing the small, and I’d say it runs true to size.

The Best White T-Shirts Under $25:

I picked two in this category — one with more feminine, refined styling and one with a more boyish, casual vibe.

Everlane The Cotton V-Neck ($18) // I’m a huge fan of Everlane for their sustainable clothing and transparent pricing, but this tee reminds me of my dad’s undershirts… which may be what you’re looking for. Some people like this. If you’re going for boyish/casual over feminine/refined in the under-$25 category, this is a good pick. (Here’s the crewneck version.)

Fabric: 100% Supima cotton (made in USA; sustainable pick)

Pros: The styling is straight-forward and classic. It has a straight hemline, no boob pocket, and a modest but flattering v-neck. It’s also a sustainable and ethically manufactured product in the USA, and it’s priced well under $25. While the cut is very straight, it’s very soft with a nice drape.

Cons: It’s thin and has no notable details — very basic.

Sizing: I’m wearing the medium, and I still need more room in the chest area. Definitely size up.

Old Navy Luxe V-Neck Tee ($16.99; currently $15 + 20% off) // This one is a little different than the rest. They call it their luxe tee, and it’s made of 95% rayon and 5% spandex. It’s super soft and has a great drape, but it does have a longer curved hem. This could be tailored to a straight hem if you like the rest of this tee.

Fabric: 95% rayon; 5% spandex

Pros: More refined styling, dressier fabric, and it has a great drape. This tee also comes in tall and petite sizes.

Cons: The dressier fabric can also be a con — it depends on what you’re looking for. I don’t care for the longer curved hem, but again, that’s a matter of preference and could be altered.

Sizing: I’m wearing the small, and I’d say it runs true to size. It lays nicer over the chest than the ones above because of the rayon.

White T-Shirt Reviews: Spend (Under $50)

This is the section of my white t-shirt review I think you should consider most carefully. I didn’t love any of the Save options, but there are a few good options in this Spend section, and some are priced well under $50 — especially when on sale.

White T-Shirt Review: Banana Republic Supima Cotton V-Neck T-Shirt

White T-Shirt Review: Banana Republic Supima Cotton V-Neck T-Shirt

Banana Republic Supima Cotton V-Neck T-Shirt $29.50 (currently 40% off) // This tee is very much like the Gap one above, but it’s slightly thicker. Otherwise, it looks almost identical. I found it rather stiff and boxy, but if you like a thicker tee with traditional styling, this isn’t a bad choice.

Fabric: 100% SUPIMA® cotton

Pros: This tee is thicker than some and not see-through at all. It should wash and wear well due it being a little sturdier than most. With the sale price, it’s a good value and could actually fit into the Save category above. (I still wouldn’t put it in the top two.)

Cons: This tee is thicker, but still 100% cotton so it doesn’t really drape, but it’s also not as bunchy as some of the cheaper tees above.

Sizing: I’m wearing the small, and I’d say it runs true to size.

White T-Shirt Review: Splendid Kate V Tee

White T-Shirt Review: Splendid Kate V Tee

Splendid Kate V Tee $48 // I had high hopes for this t-shirt because I have a grey Splendid Kate tee that I love and wear often during the spring and summer, but this white one fits and feels very different from my grey one. It’s thin and soft and drapey, but it’s cut kind of weird in the arm area.

Fabric: 50% cotton/50% modal

Pros: Super soft and has a nice drape due to the cotton/modal blend.

Cons: It’s pricey, and it seems to be cut oddly through the arms, but I need to try the small before I can tell for sure. Also, the v-neck is kind of short.

Sizing: I ordered the medium because that’s what I needed in the grey, but I think it’s too big for me. That said, the small may be too thin and see-through and tight in the chest. I wish I had ordered both to try. For now, I’m going to say it’s TTS.

White T-Shirt Review: J.Crew Vintage cotton V-neck T-shirt

White T-Shirt Review: J.Crew Vintage cotton V-neck T-shirt

J.Crew Vintage cotton V-neck T-shirt ($29.50; currently 29% off with FEB29) // I actually have this tee and wore it a lot last summer, but I ordered a new one for the purpose of this post. It’s very thin, and the v-neck is wide and deep. It’s a nice length (25″) but definitely runs small. (I’m wearing a medium.)

Fabric: Cotton (sustainable pick)

Pros: Soft with a bit of a slub texture, it’s a good length and has a nice drape. With the sale price, it’s a very good value and could fit into the Save category above. (I still wouldn’t put it in the top two.) Also, there is a good range of sizes and colors for this tee, including plus sizes.

Cons: The v-neckline is a little too low-cut for me, and the sleeves are a little wide. It’s also very thin, which I like, but some would probably feel like it’s too see-through.

Sizing: I’m wearing the medium, and I wouldn’t want to go any smaller, so I recommend sizing up — especially if you have a larger chest.

white t-shirt review: J.Crew linen tee

white t-shirt review: J.Crew linen tee

J.Crew Linen V-neck pocket T-shirt ($39.50; currently $29.50 + 29% off with FEB29) // This tee is very similar to the cotton J.Crew above, but it’s linen and has a boob pocket.

Fabric: Linen

Pros: Flattering v-neck, nice drape. Also, there is a good range of sizes for this tee, including plus sizes.

Cons: It’s verrrry thin, and because it’s linen, not very soft. It also has the dreaded boob pocket.

Sizing: I’m wearing the small, and it fits well, so I’d say it’s true to size.

white t-shirt review: Talbots cotton pima v-neck tee

white t-shirt review: Talbots cotton pima v-neck tee

Talbots Pima Cotton V-Neck Tee $29.50 // This tee is a little more refined than some of the others, and it’s very stretchy with a more body-con fit. This would be good tee for tucking into skirts and pants. I had a hard time with the pro/con list because the features that some like are the same features that others won’t like.

Fabric: 100% Pima Cotton

Pros: The v-neck is a nice shape, but cut higher than some, which is nice if you’re worried about modesty. It’s thick and soft and stretchy.

Cons: The higher v-neck and pima cotton knit can read a little matronly, but that’s really a matter of preference.

Sizing: I’m wearing the small, and I’d say it runs true to size, but you could size up if you want a more relaxed fit. It just might be a bit too big around the arms and shoulders if you do that. It’s meant to fit like this. It also comes in petite, plus, and plus petite.

white t-shirt review: T.La classic v-neck tee

white t-shirt review: T.La classic v-neck tee

T.La Classic V-Neck Tee ($48) // I found this tee at Anthropologie, and it would top my list except for one thing…. that boob pocket. WHY? Otherwise, it fits great, drapes beautifully, and it’s a gorgeous fabric. It also comes in petite and plus sizes.

Fabric: 50% cotton, 50% modal (made in the USA)

Pros: Super soft with the perfect slub texture, thicker than most but with a nice drape due to the cotton/modal blend. I love the 24.5″ length and the extra details like the cuffed sleeves and rolled edge at the v-neckline. It’s also the perfect V.

Cons: Boob pocket.

Sizing: I’m wearing the small, and it fits perfectly, so I’ll say it’s true to size.

The Best White T-Shirts Under $50:

I picked three in this category because I like them all, and they’re all a little bit different.

white t-shirt review: AllSaints Emelyn V-Neck T-Shirt

white t-shirt review: AllSaints Emelyn V-Neck T-Shirt

white t-shirt review: AllSaints Emelyn V-Neck T-Shirt

AllSaints Emelyn Tonic Tee ($40) // This tee has some nice details that set it apart from the more basic boyish tees, which make it worth the higher price tag, in my opinion. It’s also not quite as stark white as the rest, so if you have a warmer skintone, this softer white might appeal to you. It’s also nice for layering under cardigans with warmer colors.

Fabric: 100% cotton

Pros: Super soft cotton jersey fabric with a smooth texture and a nice drape. The raw-edge V-neck and hem are nice details. It’s a good mid-length at 25 1/2″ long.

Cons: Limited sizes, and it’s a little thin. It came with a few tiny holes in it near the waist — I don’t know if this means it was worn before, or what, but I’ll be returning and ordering a new one. (I do have this in the grey, and I haven’t had any issue with holes forming yet.)

Sizing: I’m wearing the small, and it fits well, so I’d say it’s true to size. It’s a good mid-length, at 25 1/2″ long.

White T-Shirt Review: Banana Republic Slub Cotton-Modal V-Neck T-Shirt

White T-Shirt Review: Banana Republic Slub Cotton-Modal V-Neck T-Shirt

Banana Republic Slub Cotton-Modal V-Neck T-Shirt ($24.50; currently 40% off) // I almost didn’t include this tee in the top 3 because of the short body length, but then I realized that some might like that. It’s 24″ so just a tad short for me. Otherwise, I like the fabric and the cut quite a lot, and at the sale price, it could actually go in the Save category above.

Fabric: 60% cotton, 40% Lenzing® modal (sustainable pick)

Pros: Nice slub texture, and a good drape due to the cotton/modal blend. The v-neck is a flattering shape and not too low or too high, with a nice trim that makes this a dressier option than some of the rest.

Cons: Runs small/short, but that may appeal to some. Limited sizes (no tall, petite, or plus sizes available.)

Sizing: It is short, and it seems to run a bit small. It looks fine in these pictures, but I had to stretch out the chest area some. I’ve ordered the medium to try and compare.

White T-Shirt Review: Boden The Cotton V-Neck Tee

White T-Shirt Review: Boden The Cotton V-Neck Tee

Boden The Cotton V-Neck Tee ($28) // This tee is a nice one, and it’s a good value for the price. It’s fairly plain, but it has a nice slub texture that’s not too thick or too thin, and it has a decent drape for the boxy cut. It has a nice shape to it, and it’s a good mid-length. This is definitely one of my favorites of the bunch, and at this price, you really can’t beat it.

Fabric: 100% cotton

Pros: Flattering cut to the v-neck, not too low or too high. Straight hem at a good mid-length, soft with a subtle slub texture, nice drape. Good value for the price.

Cons: Not much! Some may feel like it’s too thin, but I think it’s the perfect weight. The only con I can come up with is the limited sizes. There are no plus, petite, or tall options.

Sizing: I’m wearing the small, and it fits pretty well, so I’d say it’s true to size. I don’t like how it pulls across the chest, but I tried the medium, and it was too big everywhere else.

White T-Shirt Reviews: Splurge (Over $50)

To make this white t-shirt review thorough and complete, I wanted to try a few luxury brands for comparison’s sake. While there are some good ones in this category, none really blew me out of the water, but I enjoyed seeing what’s out there.

White T-Shirt Review: Vince Essential V Neck Tee

White T-Shirt Review: Vince Essential V Neck Tee

Vince Essential V Neck Tee ($75; more sizes at Shopbop) // I’m a huge fan of Vince sweaters and shoes, so I expected to be completely wowed by this tee… but I’m not. It’s verrry thin, and totally looks like one of my dad’s undershirts. I realize that’s what some people are going for, but I think you can find that at one of the lower price points.

Fabric: 100% pima cotton

Pros: Super soft, nice drape.

Cons: Verrry thin, and no special details. A very plain, boyish style and cut.

Sizing: This tee runs very small; definitely size up. (I’m wearing the small and need a medium.) Also of note, it’s a little shorter than some, at 23 1/2″ long.

White T-Shirt Review: Cotton Citizen Classic V Neck Tee

White T-Shirt Review: Cotton Citizen Classic V Neck Tee

Cotton Citizen Classic V Neck Tee $65 // I’ve never heard of this brand, but I ordered it to try because it looked good on the model. I thought I’d like the soft, relaxed styling, but it’s too relaxed for me.

Fabric: 50% pima cotton/50% micromodal

Pros: Super soft jersey fabric, very nice drape.

Cons: I don’t care for how relaxed and almost oversized it looks, and the sleeves are kind of long too. Again, this may appeal to some, but I wasn’t a fan.

Sizing: This tee runs big, although it’s supposed to have a relaxed fit. It’s also longer than most.

White T-Shirt Review: ATM Schoolboy V-Neck T-Shirt

ATM Anthony Thomas Melillo Schoolboy V-Neck T-Shirt $85 // This tee is *almost* there but the slub texture is a bit much for me. I think it’s helpful sometimes to read the description on the website, because it gives you an idea of what the designer was going for. In this case, it says: “A slightly boxy, shrunken fit perfects the tomboy appeal of a short-sleeve T-shirt in slubbed Peruvian cotton jersey.” Yep, pretty much! It’s a very good quality shirt, but I couldn’t love the fabric.

Fabric: 100% cotton

Pros: It’s a very nice thick and soft slub cotton, and the v-neckline is the perfect shape.

Cons: The slub texture is a little too much for me, and I don’t like how the sleeves bell out, but that could be because I need to size up. Otherwise, it’s a very nice t-shirt.

Sizing: I’m wearing a small, and I think I’d prefer a medium. It’s also on the shorter side, at 23 1/2″ long.

The Best of the Splurge-Worthy T-Shirts:

I have no problem paying $40 for a good quality tee that I’ll wear a ton and will last for hopefully a couple of seasons, but if I’m going to spend $80 or $90, it better be some kind of special unicorn. Does this one qualify? The jury’s still out . . . I’ll let you decide.

White T-Shirt Review: Rag & Bone Jean The Vee Tee

Rag & Bone Jean The Vee Tee $90 // Of course, I like the most expensive t-shirt best! 🤦🏻‍♀️ This tee pretty much checks off all the boxes for me, and the quality is fantastic. Because I do really like the Boden one in the Spend category, I probably don’t need this one as well, but it’s a good quality shirt that I wouldn’t mind adding to my closet.

Fabric: 100% cotton

Pros: Soft jersey cotton fabric with a subtle slub texture and a nice drape. Not too thick, not too thin. Nice shape to the v-neck with a little bit of trim that makes it more refined than your basic boyfriend tee, and the sleeves are a nice length and shape. It has a straight hem at a versatile 25 1/2″ length. Plus, it has a seam down the back, which is a nice a detail that sets it apart from the rest. And best of all, no boob pocket!

Cons: Price, limited sizes.

Sizing: I recommend sizing up. I’m wearing a small, but I think I’d prefer a medium — while it’s not pulling across the chest, you can see from the back that it’s pretty snug. It’s a nice mid-length at 25 1/2″ long.

White T-Shirt Reviews: In Conclusion

White T-Shirt Review 2020

While my favorite of the bunch is the most expensive, you don’t need to drop $90 to get a great white t-shirt.

The Boden The Cotton V-Neck Tee is a good quality, versatile t-shirt for $28; and if you don’t mind spending a little more, the AllSaints Emelyn Tonic Tee has a good fit and some nice details.

In the budget-friendly category, Everlane’s The Cotton V-Neck is a good basic tee; and the Old Navy Luxe V-Neck Tee has some nice details, if you don’t mind the curved hem.

I’m also a big fan of the Banana Republic Slub Cotton-Modal V-Neck T-Shirt for a more elevated tee, and right now it comes down to just $14.70 when you add it to your cart!

How To Choose A Floral Print That Isn’t Frumpy

Greetings and happy Friday! I’m sharing this long sleeve faux wrap dress and how to choose a floral print that isn’t frumpy.

I had teased my white t-shirt review for today, but I just couldn’t get it finished in time, so I’m planning to post that tomorrow.

This is an outfit I wore to meet a friend for lunch earlier this week.

I'm styling this long sleeve faux wrap dress and sharing how to choose a floral print that isn't frumpy.

I usually dress up my jeans for more of a smart-casual outfit for daytime events, but it was a mild day, and I had just finished shooting this look with my photographer. I went back inside to change for lunch, looked down at what I was wearing, and realized it was perfectly appropriate for a girls’ lunch out!

This outfit is also a contender for the bridal shower I’m attending next month in Boston, and it was nice to be able to give it a trial run.

For instance, I used fashion tape to keep the neckline in place, but I plan to take it to Nordstrom and get someone from the alterations department to sew in a small snap. It will be far more reliable than the tape, and will look nicer too.

Otherwise, I really like the design of this dress. Because it’s a faux wrap, it’s sewn in place at the waist, so there’s no risk of the skirt blowing open. It also takes all the frustration out of tying the dress. You just slip it over your head, and you’re good to go!

Side Note: Am I the only one who is confounded by a traditional wrap dress???

I'm styling this long sleeve faux wrap dress and sharing how to choose a floral print that isn't frumpy.

I tend to gravitate to solids, but florals are trending right now, and it’s fun to wear a printed dress for a change. That said, women of a certain age (ahem…) have to use care when choosing a floral print, lest it cross over into frump territory.

The floral print on this dress looks fresh and modern to my eye, and here’s why.

How to Choose A Floral Print That Isn’t Frumpy

When choosing a floral print that isn’t frumpy, you want to pay attention to three things: scale, contrast, and density. This will vary a bit based on personal style aesthetic, which we will discuss as well.

This floral print is what I would consider a medium scale print, which is pretty much universally flattering. (Generally speaking, if you are larger, you want to go for a larger scale print; and if you are smaller, you want to go for a smaller scale print. However, if you go too large or too small, it can look dated very quickly.)

This medium scale print with a loose pattern is fresh and modern.

Because the density is looser, leaving more of the background visible, it allows for more contrast between the flowers and the background color. It also gives the eye a place to rest.

I'm styling this French Connection long sleeve faux wrap dress and sharing how to choose a floral print that isn't frumpy for women over 40.

The lighter colors on a darker background provide a high level of contrast, which adds interest, and I also think some sophistication to this floral print.

You also want to take into account your personal style when choosing a floral print that isn’t frumpy.

Some florals are more stylized, therefore dramatic and sophisticated; while some are more natural looking, which tends to be more feminine and youthful.

I think a more stylized print, like this one, is more sophisticated and easier to pull off when you’re a more mature age. (I’m 47, for reference.)

That said, if your personal style is more feminine and flirty, you maybe able to get away with a more natural floral print.

How I Styled This Floral Wrap Dress

For last week’s try-on haul, I styled this dress with nude block heeled sandals, and I like the look very much.

Even with the long sleeves, I think it works, or you can push them up as I did when I styled the dress with boots.

But right now it’s very chilly here in Philadelphia, and it will likely be chilly next month in Boston when I attend my cousin’s bridal shower, so I wanted to see how this floral dress looks paired with boots.

I’m wearing the Sam Edelman Hiltin boots from the #NSale last summer, but the Sam Edelman Hai in golden caramel is almost identical.

These gorgeous boots are a very nice quality and extremely comfortable, and I like how the taupe color complements this dress. It coordinates with the peach and beige tones in the flowers, and also blends in with my skin tone, and allows the eye to focus on the dress.

Darker boots would work too, but they would look heavier and more wintry. The taupe color is perfect for this transition season.

I'm styling this long sleeve faux wrap dress and sharing how to choose a floral print that isn't frumpy.

For jewelry, I went with classic hoops and a pendant necklace.

These are both designer pieces that were gifts, and I wear them a lot, but you can certainly find similar styles for less. I’ll link a few options below.

floral dress

This is a great dress for work wear or church, or as you can see here, lunch with a friend and possibly a bridal shower!

Since it’s lightweight with long sleeves, you can wear it 3 seasons of the year, which maximizes the cost per wear.

It runs TTS, or size up if in between. The 8 fits me perfectly. It’s currently 25% off at Nordstrom; but for today only, it’s 40% off at Lord + Taylor, bringing it down to just $76.80! (This sale ends today, 2/28/20, at 11:59PM ET.)

5 Ways to Wear Black Cigarette Pants

Greetings, friends! Today I’m finally wrapping up 5 Ways to Wear Black Cigarette Pants with two spring work wear looks.

Both looks in this post feature these 1901 4-way stretch skinny ankle pants and a short-sleeved printed top.

spring work wear looks with black skinny ankle pants

These pants are from Nordstrom, and they’re a great closet basic if you’re looking for a pair of black or navy ankle skinny pants for your spring work wear looks.

They aren’t quite as slim-fitting as the Banana Republic Devon ankle pants that I wore in the other posts in this series, but both are great options.

Both run true to size, or size up if in between. For size reference, I have the 8.

black skinny ankle pants and pumps

These have a 26 1/2″ regular inseam, so they’re slightly shorter than the Banana Republic pair, and I really like the notched hem.

The fabric is 52% cotton, 42% rayon, and 6% spandex. That’s a nice combination of natural fibers for breathability and spandex for stretch and comfort.

For my first look, I wore this striped top from Ann Taylor and my Jeffery Campbell pointed toe pumps.

spring work wear looks with black skinny ankle pants

These pumps are so versatile, and they’re perfect for work wear looks because they have a dressy vibe, but the block heel keeps them practical and walkable.

They don’t take much breaking in, and they’re true to size. They’re currently 25% off at Bloomies if you shop with a Bloomingdale’s card (20% off with all other payment methods) and 20% off at Nordstrom.

Nordstrom also has the best selection of colors. I’m tempted by that tan suede — it’s the perfect nude for my light skintone.

the most comfortable block heel pumps

I also found this pair of block heel pumps with a more rounded toe at DSW for $39, if you want a more budget-friendly option.

This striped top is from Ann Taylor, and it’s basically a very thin sweater. It’s made of 97% rayon and 3% spandex, so it has a good amount of stretch, but it’s still machine washable.

I love the striped pattern, sleek mock neck, and chic elbow-length sleeves. These sleeves are a nice option for those who don’t like to bare their upper arms.

The overall body length is 24 1/2″, so you can leave it untucked or do a front-tuck if you want to bring the length up some.

Best of all, this striped top is marked down and then an additional 40% off, so it comes down to just $29 in cart!

It runs true to size, or a bit big. I’m wearing the small, and if it weren’t for the chest area, I think I could have sized down to the XS.

I kept my jewelry minimal with classic hoops, but I meant to add a bracelet. I even brought it with me to this photo shoot, but forgot to put it on. #ooops

This chic black and white spring look is perfect for the office, church on Sunday, or lunch with the girls. You can always throw a black blazer on top for the office, or dress it down with a denim jacket for the weekend.

This second of my spring work wear looks is very similar, which is why I put them together in one post.

I have this Halogen cap sleeve top from last fall in a stripe, and I liked it so much, I bought it for spring in this fun polka dot print.

This is such a nice work wear top, and it comes in a gajillion different colors and prints.

It stands alone nicely, and it also makes a great layering piece. I’ve worn the stripe version under a leather jacket and a denim jacket, and you could also do a cardigan or a blazer for a more conservative work wear look.

spring work wear looks with black skinny ankle pants

This top is super easy to slip on and go, due to the keyhole back and button closure. The jewel neck is flattering, and it’s 100% polyester, so you can machine wash and tumble dry.

It’s rather boxy, so I like to front tuck it to give it some shape through the waist.

This polka dot blouse runs true to size; I have the small, for reference.

polka dot work wear blouse for spring

This time, I swapped out the pumps for block heeled ankle strap sandals, and yes, I was fuh-reezing! But I really like the sandals with the short-sleeved blouse.

Of course, sandals aren’t appropriate for all office dress codes, so you can wear pumps if you prefer. You could even do ballet flats or loafers, if you wanted to dress this look down a bit.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: If I needed work wear, I’d buy this blouse in every color! It’s super cute and versatile, and there are so many fun prints to choose from.

A Casual Way to Wear a Tweed Jacket

Hi there, friends! I’m continuing with my style series on 3 Ways to Wear a Tweed Jacket this spring, and this time I’ve got a more casual way to wear a tweed jacket.

a casual way to wear a tweed jacket with jeans

On Monday, I styled this jacket with a little black dress for a conservative work wear look. Here’s a little flashback for you.

You can read that post in its entirety HERE, if you missed it.

This time I wanted to go for an outfit more along the lines of what I typically wear, so I decided to take it the other direction and wear this jacket with jeans and a t-shirt.

There’s lots of juxtaposition going on here, which is what makes it fun. This is a great look for a lunch with friends or other occasions when you want to a smart-casual outfit.

Here’s a close-up view of the jacket, paired with a white tee. It’s such a flattering cut, and the black trim really pops.

This t-shirt is old and mostly sold out, but I’m currently working on a HUGE white t-shirt review & comparison post, so stay tuned for that!

a casual way to wear a tweed jacket

My casual way to wear a tweed jacket features a pair of AG Farrah high waist ankle skinny jeans in a nice mid-indigo wash with a lived-in look and feel.

These jeans have a 10 1/2″ front rise and a 28″ inseam, so on me that is right at ankle-length.

I think the chewed hem is a fun detail and adds interest, but if you want to keep the look clean and classic, you could go with jeans with a traditional sewn hem.

I felt like this outfit needed something fun and unexpected, so I threw on these bright pink flats, and I love how they complete the look.

The bright color is a nice change from the neutral shoes that have ruled the day for so long.

bright pink flats

Pointy toe flats are a hot shoe trend this spring, and these definitely fit that description! They’re quite comfortable too, and I love the notched topline.

Those little points of interest are what take a bland outfit and make it shine.

I can definitely see myself wearing this smart-casual look out and about when the weather warms up a bit. I suppose I could even wear it now and throw a coat on top.

In fact, I’m going to a musical this weekend at a local playhouse, and I might do exactly that!

February Favorites 2020

Greetings, friends! I’m back with my February Favorites.

I’m barely slipping this one in under the wire. I can’t believe February is coming to an end already.

Of course, that means we have to face March… possibly my least favorite month of the year. Hopefully this one will go by quickly, since I have some fun plans to look forward to.

one // two // three // four // five // six // seven // eight // nine // ten // eleven

February Favorites 2020

This is a roundup of new finds and old favorites that I’m particularly loving right now.

#1. Reformation Cashmere Blend Sweater // I’m loving the stripes and lighter color palette for this time of year, but it’s still cozy enough for these chilly winter days.

This sweater is slightly cropped, but the sleeves are nice and long. It runs small, so I recommend sizing up one from your normal; I have the medium.

#2. Fort Collins Boho Wrap // I love the colors in this wrap, and I can’t wait to wear it more once I’m not wearing long sleeves all the time!

#3. CND nail polish in midnight swim // This is such a pretty blue — almost black, with just a hint of sparkle. I usually go for matte shades, but I’ve been enjoying this one this month.

#4. rag & bone Shredded-Hem Ankle Skinny Jeans in Flint // I’ve been wearing these jeans a ton since I got them. I really like the lighter wash, and the 27″ inseam is just the right length for booties and sneakers.

These jeans run TTS; I have the 28. They’re also 25% off right now!

#5. Sweaty Betty Rhythm Merino Hoodie // This was an impulse purchase, more or less blog research after a friend and fellow blog-reader mentioned how much she loves her Sweaty Betty workout wear.

Well… I ended up keeping it, and I’ve been wearing it a ton, along with the Sweaty Betty Power 7/8 Technical Leggings. I have the small, for reference, and it’s on sale with free express shopping and free returns on the Sweaty Betty website!!!

In fact, they have a lot of their winter inventory on sale right now.

#6. Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 36 Running Shoes // I bought these along with the Sweaty Betty athletic wear, and I wear them just as much. I like that they’re supportive enough to do my walking and also look good enough to wear out and about.

Unfortunately, my black/gold/red/white went on sale and are almost sold out, but this style comes in tons of other color options.

#7. Adidas Originals adidas Trefoil Baseball Cap // How did I survive so long without a ball cap? I do have one, actually, but it’s hot pink so I mostly wear it in the summer.

I love this black Adidas cap — I throw it on when my hair is looking rough, and it makes me feel a little more put together.

#8. LOFT Striped Pocket Cowl Neck Sweater // This sweater is such a cute transition piece — nice and cozy for these cold winter days, but with a nautical vibe that gives a nod to spring. I love it paired with blue jeans and white denim.

Beat of all, it’s marked down to $19.88 and fully stocked!

#9. Everlane The Day Loafers // I just got these, and I’m super excited about them. I think I’ll be wearing them a lot once the weather warms up. They’re so, so comfortable, and I like the silhouette as well. They’re not as masculine as some loafers. Plus, I just like supporting Everlane.

#10. Nespresso VertuoLine // Since starting to drink my coffee black, I’ve appreciated my Nespresso coffee even more. It makes such a rich, frothy cup of coffee that I hardly miss my heavy cream…

Okay, I miss it. But good coffee makes drinking it black tolerable. I’m still waiting to actually like it this way. My favorite pods are the Stormio.

And that’s a wrap! I hope you found it fun or helpful in some way. As always, I’m happy to answer any questions in the comments.

3 Ways to Wear a Tweed Jacket

Happy Monday, friends! Today I’m starting a new 3 Ways series with 3 Ways to Wear a Tweed Jacket. (I’ll be wrapping up my 5 Ways to Wear Black Cigarette Pants on Thursday.)

For this series, I’m going to space each post a few days apart. I have a lot of regular features on my editorial calendar already, so I’ll just fit these in where I have open days.

Sharing 3 Ways to Wear a Tweed Jacket, featuring this Ann Taylor tweed sweater jacket and a cap sleeve bi-stretch sheath.

I’m going to be styling a work wear look, a date night look, and a casual everyday look — all with this same jacket. This is obviously the work wear look.

This tweed sweater jacket is from Ann Taylor, and it’s currently 40% off!

It’s a little outside of my typical style, but I loved the fit, and when I tried it a few different ways, I discovered that it’s far more versatile than you might think.

Sharing 3 Ways to Wear a Tweed Jacket, featuring this Ann Taylor tweed sweater jacket and a cap sleeve bi-stretch sheath.

I really like this jacket. It has the structure of a blazer with the comfort of a cardigan.

Okay, so it’s not quite as cozy as a cardigan, but it is stretchy and flexible. (I always feel so restricted in jackets.)

The fabric is 8% cotton, 19% polyester, and 3% “other fibers” (whatever that means.) But the nice thing is, it’s machine washable!

I appreciate the generous sleeve length, and the black trim is really sharp looking. With the black and white tweed, you can wear this jacket with neutrals or pretty much any color.

For size reference, this is the small, and it fits me perfectly.

For this work wear look, I paired this tweed jacket with a classic black scoop neck sheath, also from Ann Taylor.

This dress is really good quality, fully lined, and the fit is on point. It has nice attention to detail. The scoop neckline is flattering, and I like the cap sleeves as well.

I know some ladies don’t care for cap sleeves, but if you’re okay with baring your upper arms, they’re more flattering on those of us who are larger chested than a traditional short sleeve that cuts off right at the boob-line.

I also feel like a cap sleeve gives a little more coverage than a sleeveless style, so it’s the best of both worlds. This dress is a size 6, for reference.

Jo-Lynne Shane wearing Ann Taylor The Scoop Neck Dress In Bi-Stretch and Marc Fisher LTD. Zala Suede Pointed Toe Pumps

These pumps are flattering but still wearable for all day, and while I went with bare legs, you can always wear nude hose if you prefer.

I recommend very sheer, natural looking nude hose such as these Donna Karan control top pantyhose. If you want more coverage, these semi-sheer tights are a great choice.

For accessories, I added some classic hoops and a layered necklace.

Sharing 3 Ways to Wear a Tweed Jacket, featuring this Ann Taylor tweed sweater jacket and a cap sleeve bi-stretch sheath.

The layered look is trending, and I feel like this necklace is conservative enough to work with the outfit, but also helps keep the look current.

Unfortunately mine sold out, but you can find lots of options for layered necklaces at Nordstrom.

I carried a simple black tote — something that can hold an iPad or small laptop, but works as a purse as well.

This outfit is definitely on the more conservative side of the work wear spectrum, geared to those who work in an industry with a professional dress code, but you could also wear it to church or to other events that call for conservative business attire.

While this isn’t the type of outfit I wear very often, it’s nice to know I can put it together from items in my closet if I need to.

Be sure to tune in on Wednesday for the second of my 3 Ways to Wear a Tweed Jacket, when I’ll be styling this tweed sweater jacket with blue jeans for a smart-casual daytime look!

Coffee Talk + Kitchen Makeover Update

Well, it’s been quite a week here in the Shane household! I’ve been eagerly anticipating getting my kitchen remodel underway, and this week we finally got to see some progress.

On Tuesday, the desk area in our kitchen was replaced with a regular kitchen cabinet, including the new pull-out microwave and drink fridge. Here’s the “before” picture…

And here’s how it looked after the carpenter left. The plan is to make it into a drinks station.

For some reason, he didn’t put the proper supports in around the new drink fridge, and when the counter guy came back to take his final measurements, he noticed it immediately.

So that sent me scrambling to get my carpenter back over to put some support pieces back there.

Even then, he didn’t make them high enough, so when the counter guys arrived to do the install, they had to jerry-rig some extra pieces of trim around the top of that cabinet to level it all out so they could install the counters.

Anyway! It all worked out.

By noon on Thursday, my beautiful quartzite countertops and new induction cooktop were installed, and I finally got to see my counters in their full glory.

I wasn’t able to go to the template meeting, so I had only seen one of the three slabs before — standing on its side in the dark warehouse. It was super exciting to see them all placed properly in my kitchen!

It took five men to hoist this counter up onto the island. I had to turn away; I couldn’t watch. When they were done, I heard one exclaim, “I quit!”

I think it was jest…

Unfortunately, we were unable to hook up the cooktop that day because we didn’t have enough power to our electrical connection, so we ordered takeout for dinner and called a few electricians.

Through this whole process, with so many little glitches, I kept thinking about Frank on Trading Spaces. Remember him? He always said he didn’t like to make his designs too perfect, because nothing in life ever is.

Well, he got that right!

On Friday, we finally got the broken fan in my wall oven replaced, and we found an electrician to come out to hook up our new induction cooktop. It’s basically been Grand Central Station around here.

Yesterday, Paul and I removed the over-the-stove microwave, as it’s getting replaced with a vent hood, and the cabinet painters start on Tuesday.

The plan is to paint the cabinets a soft white and the island a charcoal grey, and the backsplash will be white subway tile in a herringbone pattern. I’ve also ordered new counter stools.

If all goes as planned, my kitchen remodel should be complete by Wednesday, March 4th! Of course, there are a lot of moving parts, and these things rarely go as planned, so we shall see.

Here’s what it looks like at the moment…

It’s clearly a work in progress, but I’m starting to get a vision for what it will look like when it’s all done, and I’m super excited!

How many times can I say “super excited” in one post???

In other news, this weekend has been pretty unusual for us, as all of our kids are away. D’s at college, C’s at a youth retreat, and R went on an overnight trip with a friend.

You’d think Paul and I would have made the most of it and done something fun yesterday, but by the time we got the microwave removed and took some pictures for an upcoming sponsored post, our day was mostly shot.

Oh, well. At least we got to cross a few things off our to-do list!

We decided to go out for drinks before meeting friends for dinner, and that was our day.

This morning, we’re picking up friends at the airport, and otherwise I’ll just be hanging out, waiting for my girls to come home. I can’t wait to hear all about their weekends.

I hope you all have a relaxing and blessed Sunday!

Live Well, Love Lots, Laugh More

Surprise, I’ve got a Saturday post this week!

I wasn’t planning to post today, but as I was looking at my editorial calendar for the next couple of weeks, I realized I have more content to share than days in which to post. So here we are!

I’m always afraid to push outfits out too far because things sell out, and we shot this look last week, so I wanted to get it out to you.

Yes, I realize it’s a small subset of the population who can wear this right now, but intel from the southern United States tells me it’s unseasonably warm down there, so hopefully this look will resonate with someone.

Meanwhile, it’s 25 degrees here in Philly this morning. #brrr

Fortunately, it was a mild 55 degrees the day we shot this look, although it was still chilly in the shade… as you can probably tell by how stiff my arms are, haha!

Anyway, I shared this graphic tee in a recent try-on haul, and it went right into my closet. I think it’s so cute, and I love the fit.

It comes in a bunch of other designs, but this navy one with the colorful sentiment spoke to me. They have more patterns at Boden, but you can also find some at Nordstrom with their free shipping. I have a small, and the fit is perfect.

I paired this whimsical tee with light wash jeans and fashion sneakers for an everyday outfit that’s perfect for everything from running errands and chauffeuring the kids, to working from home and hosting causal get togethers.

On cooler days, I’ll throw my white denim jacket on top.

This one is by Kut from the Kloth, and I really like the fit. It has a nice shape through the waist area, and it’s stretchy and lightweight and comfortable.

It comes in regular and petite sizes, and I have the medium, for reference.

These jeans are my Rag & Bone shredded hem skinnies, and I’ve been wearing them a lot recently.

They have a good amount of stretch to them, but they don’t bag out throughout the day. The shredded hem is a fun detail and is in keeping with the casual vibe of the light wash.

I generally like a lighter wash for spring, but especially with this look.

It provides a nice contrast against the navy of the t-shirt and the white of the jacket, and also ties into some of the colors in the graphic.

For jewelry, I just wore my D Yurman hoops. The buttons on the jean jacket are silver, so I usually try to coordinate my jewelry.

These earrings were a Christmas present from Paul, and I wear them a lot, so I tried to find some similar options for less that I can share when I wear them.

I recently found these fun silver hammered hoops at Chico’s, and this filigree pair from Kendra Scott are really pretty and feminine, but these rope hoops from Talbots look most like mine.

Finally, these sneakers were an Amazon fashion find. They’re a knock-off of the popular Golden Goose brand, but they’re not an exact dupe.

I think they’re fun for casual looks, and they’re fairly comfortable too. The quality is about what you’d expect for $28 sneakers. (Prices vary from $19.89 to $45.99 based on size and color.)

Mine are the Gold, and you definitely should size up a half size, as indicated on the website.

I’m not able to wear this outfit around here yet, but the weather can change on a dime, and when spring arrives, I’ll be ready!

If I were going somewhere warmer for Spring Break, I would definitely pack this outfit. It would be great for a trip to Disney World.

Try-On Haul: LOFT, Chico’s, Gap, Nordstrom, Madewell & J.Crew

Happy Friday, friends! Cheers to the weekend!🥂It’s time for another try-on haul!

This week I have some tops, pants, dresses, and a couple of pairs of shoes as well. I ordered from LOFT, Gap, Nordstrom, Madewell, J.Crew, and even Chico’s!

For anyone just tuning in, I’m 5’5″. I wear a 6 or 8 (28 or 29) in pants and jeans, a small in most tops, and an 8 in dresses.

Product links are underneath the pictures of each item. TTS = True To Size.

Try-Ons: LOFT

As usual, LOFT is running a sale this weekend… 40% off your purchase, plus 50% off full-price tops and sweaters! They have a lot of nice transition pieces for late winter/early spring.

I’m always looking for a good base layer for under jackets and cardigans, and this black mixed media shell is great for that! It’s not too low in the front or under the arms, and it’s regular bra-friendly.

It’s kind of long and swingy, so I gave it a front-tuck. You can wear it either way, depending on your preference.

LOFT V-Neck Mixed Media Shell (size S) // This is a versatile closet staple at a good price. It also comes in a solid blue, and it’s currently 50% off with code LOFTIMIST! This top runs TTS; I’m in the small.

also wearing: Madewell jeans (TTS) with Stuart Weitzman sandals (Black Dress Nappa on sale!)

This is the same top as above, but in a print. You can see here how nicely it fits around the arms…

If you’re a regular to these posts, you know that deep armholes are a pet peeve of mine.

I like a floral grounded on black, but I’m usually not a huge fan of the tight, small scale florals. This one is pretty cute, though.

You can always add a denim jacket or blazer on top to break up the print. Add a necklace and maybe a belt, and it’s an outfit!

LOFT Vine V-Neck Mixed Media Shell (size S) // This is a cute top for spring, and it could be paired with so many different colors. It has all the same qualities of the black one above, but in a fun print. It also comes in a solid blue, and it’s currently 50% off with code LOFTIMIST!

also wearing: Madewell jeans (TTS) with Stuart Weitzman sandals (Black Dress Nappa on sale!)

This top also has a modest v-neckline, but it’s more casual than the two above. It also has long sleeves, so it’s more of a transitional piece.

The material is soft and and drapes nicely, and it feels good against the skin. The fabric is 95% Rayon, 5% Spandex.

I like the seaming details on the sides, and I don’t even mind the drop shoulders because they fit pretty close to the arms and don’t add any visual bulk.

It’s longer in the back than the front, which is not my favorite look, but I know a lot of women like that. It definitely covers the bum, if you’re looking for that.

I like this top with the white jeans, but the sandals are a little dressy with it. I’ll probably wear sneakers or loafers, and it will also be cute with blue jeans.

LOFT V-Neck Dolman Tee (size S) // This is a nice casual top for transition season, and it’s a beautiful shade of pink. It also comes in a really pretty blue, and it’s currently marked down to $19.99 + 40% off with code LOFTIMIST! It runs TTS; I’m in the small.

also wearing: Madewell jeans (TTS) with Stuart Weitzman sandals (Black Dress Nappa on sale!)

I did switch to jeans and loafers for this top. I love this henley style tee! It’s flattering and comfortable.

This top is cut straight all the way around, and it hits mid-hip (25 1/2″ long.) The fabric is 66% Rayon, 31% Polyester, 3% Spandex.

It has traditional on-shoulder seams, and the arms are cut nicely — they’re not tight, but they have a slim fit for a flattering silhouette.

It fits close to the body without clinging, and you can wear it untucked or front-tucked, depending on your preference.

Here you can see it front-tucked with sneakers…

And I ordered the ivory too…

I like the coral best, but this is a nice neutral, and it would also layer nicely under cardigans.

LOFT Henley Tee (size S) // This casual top is a step up from a plain tee but just as versatile and easy to throw on with jeans this spring, or even shorts for a cool evening on the beach in the summer. It’s true to size, and currently 50% off with code LOFTIMIST!

also wearing: Rag & Bone jeans (TTS) with Everlane loafers // Veja sneakers // Treasure & Bond sandals

Yoiks! Who needs self tanner!?!

This tee is whimsical and fun. It’s cute enough to wear alone, and would also look great under a denim jacket with colored pants or jeans… I should have thrown my denim jacket on with this look, but I didn’t think about it at the time.

It’s 100% cotton, so all natural fibers, but it’s boxy and quite thin. I still like it, although I do wonder how well it will wash. Sometimes LOFT tops don’t wash well for me, but I’m going to keep it and hope for the best. I’ll wash it with delicate and hang to dry.

LOFT Beach Bird Tee (size S) // This is a fun little graphic tee for spring and summer that you can layer under a jacket or wear on its own. It would look great with jeans, jean shorts, or any color pants or shorts as well. It’s true to size; I’m in the small.

also wearing: LOFT skinny utility pants and Madewell sneakers

Here’s a close-up of the pants; they’re from LOFT as well. I love the utility style pockets, and the color is really pretty for spring.

The frayed hem looks kind of cheesy to me; I’d be tempted to cut them off and leave a raw hem, but that’s a personal preference.

I also think I’d like them better if they were a little shorter. They have a 27 1/2″ inseam, and I’d like to see them closer to 26″. (FYI, they also come in petite with a 25 1/2″ inseam.)

Here’s the rear view, and I think they look really good from behind. The pockets are sized nicely and well-placed.

I get a lot of questions for more about what to look for in rear pocket placement. I like my rear pockets to sit pretty much perfectly square on my “cheeks.” I don’t like it when they’re too big or too far apart or too low or too high…

It’s really very subjective. You just need to take pictures and compare them and see what looks best to your eye. Just whatever you do, don’t ignore the rear view. Pocket placement really can make or break a pair of pants.

LOFT Skinny Utility Pants (size 6) // This is a great pair of casual pants for spring! I like the styling and the color, and I think they’re flattering, but I would cut off that hem.

I’d say they run true to size; I’m usually a 6 in LOFT pants, but with my recent weight loss, I probably need to size down to the 4. These fit nicely, but they’re a bit roomy, and I can pretty much guarantee that they’ll stretch out as you wear them.

They also come in blue and tan, and they’re 40% off with code LOFTIMIST.

also wearing: Madewell Sidewalk Low-Top Sneakers

Madewell Sidewalk Low-Top Sneakers in Spotted Calf Hair and Suede (size 8h) // I’ll slip these Madewell sneakers in here since I’m wearing them with this look.

These are very comfortable, and I love the spotted calf hair and contrasting blush stripe. They’re really fun for something different, and I think they’ll look great with black jeans.

They run TTS or a bit small; I’m usually an 8 or 8 1/2 in sneakers. 8h = 8 1/2 in Madewell sizing.

They’re currently 15% off for Madewell Insiders (20% off for Stars and Icons.) It’s free to join Madewell Insiders, and in addition to perks like this, you get free shipping and returns on all orders.

I also ordered these white cropped jeans, and I like this chewed hem better than the frayed one on the utility pants. The workmanship still isn’t comparable to the premium brands, but for this price, they’re cute and fun.

The jeans themselves are fairly thick. I’m in the size 28, and I while they’re a little loose, I’d be nervous to size down because I don’t like my white jeans to be too snug since they’re not very forgiving.

The fabric is 98% Cotton, 2% Spandex, and they have a 10 1/4″ rise with 26 1/2″ inseam — a length I really like for spring and summer. (FYI, the petite has a 10″ rise with 24″ inseam.)

If you don’t already, I encourage you to learn and know your preferred inseam. It makes shopping for pants and jeans online SO much easier!

LOFT Chewed Hem Slim Pocket Skinny Jeans in White (size 28) // Overall, I really like the fit of these. They’re thick enough to be modest, although you can see the seams and pockets through them. I’d say they run TTS for LOFT; size down if in between, and they’re also 40% off with code LOFTIMIST.

also wearing: J.Crew Crewneck Pullover in Vintage Cotton Terry with Madewell Sidewalk Low-Top Sneakers

Try-Ons: Nordstrom

I have a bridal shower coming up in a few weeks, and a wedding later this spring, so I ordered a few dresses to try.

I actually had this dress in a different print last year, but I returned it because I didn’t know where I’d wear it.

I think I liked that one better. I’m not crazy about the flower placement on this one.

The one thing to be aware of is this dress has several high slits. It might be worth having them sewn together, if you’re concerned about modesty.

It’s a faux wrap, and you can just pull it on over your head. I also appreciate that it is sewn together so it doesn’t gape in front.

French Connection Floral V-Neck Maxi Dress (size 8) // This is a pretty dress if you have an occasion for it. Maybe a different dress would have different flower placement… It runs TTS, and it’s currently 40% off!

also wearing: Stuart Weitzman sandals (Bambina Dress Nappa on sale!)

This dress is the same brand, but I’m much more comfortable in this silhouette.

It’s also a faux wrap, but it isn’t sewn together like the one above I’d like to have a snap put on it, but it still stays put pretty well.

I like this floral pattern a lot — the large scale seems more modern than smaller scale florals

This dress skims the body without clinging, but true confessions, I’m also wearing my new SKIMS sculpting shorts. I like them a lot under dresses.

It works with these shoes, but they will probably be too cold for March in Massachusetts.

I need to try it on with my taupe suede knee-high boots. Since it has long sleeves, I think that combo could work.

French Connection Raquel Floral Long Sleeve Faux Wrap Dress (size 8) // This is a great dress for work wear or church, and since it has long sleeves, you can wear it 3 seasons of the year. It’s flattering, and the quality seems decent. It runs TTS, or size up if in between. The 8 fits me perfectly. It’s also 35% off!

also wearing: Stuart Weitzman sandals (Bambina Dress Nappa on sale!)

How fun are these snake print espadrilles!?! Unfortunately, they’re already low inventory. They do come in solid beige, black, and yellow though.

I had a similar pair (in cognac) by the same brand last year, and I think every fashion blogger in the blogosphere had them too. I actually like the design of these a little better.

They’re very walkable and have a padded footbed, but they’re not made with the softest leather.

I’ll need to wear them longer to tell if they will give me blisters or not, but I did keep them.

Treasure & Bond Penelope Espadrille Sandals (size 7.5; more colors here) // These sandals are very much on trend for spring and summer. They’re fairly comfortable, but may need some breaking in.

Fit-wise, the ones I had last year were a little big on me in my usual size 8, so this year I ordered 7.5. These fit perfectly, and sometimes I do have to size down in sandals, so I’d still say they’re TTS.

also wearing: Rag & Bone Shredded-Hem Ankle Skinny Jeans (TTS and 25% off!)

This sweater caught my eye because of the cheerful color palette. It’s cozy enough for this chilly transition season but the colors make me happy.

Incidentally, I think it would look great layered over the ivory LOFT henley tee above.

Caslon Open Front Pocket Cardigan (size S) // This is a great sweater for transition season, and it also comes in solid black. It’s soft and stretchy and comfortable, but it runs VERY large, even for Caslon. I’d like to try it in the XS, so definitely size down if ordering.

also wearing: BR tee (runs small) with Agolde jeans (TTS) and Everlane loafers (size up half)

Try-Ons: Gap, Chico’s, J.Crew & Sperry

Here are a few more random pieces that came in this week.

This Gap hoodie is super soft and comfortable, but it’s very thin. The kangaroo pocket is visible, and it also sticks out kind of funny.

GapFit Breathe Pullover Hoodie (size S) // I wanted to like this, but it’s too thin and clingy for my comfort level, so I sent it back.

also wearing: Madewell jeans (TTS) with Veja sneakers

I’ve never shopped much at Chico’s, but for some reason I landed on their site and noticed this top. (I also ordered a necklace and earrings, which I like a lot.)

This sweater is fresh and fun for spring, but it runs verrrry big. I’m in the 0, which is a small in Chico’s sizing, and it’s still pretty big on me.

I like the double-V neckline a lot, and even though it has dropped sleeves, they don’t seem to add a lot of visual weight.

The cuffs are long and slimming, which is nice.

This sweater is a little longer than I prefer, at 27 1/2″, but because of the banded waist, you can place it where you want it.

It’s not particularly soft, but it seems to be well made. The fabric is cotton, polyester and linen.

Chico’s Spacedye Double V-Neck Pullover Sweater (size 0) // This is a great little casual top for spring! The shade of blue is trending, but it also comes in a pretty sand color if you prefer a neutral. Make sure to size down.

also wearing: Madewell jeans with Tory Burch Minnie flats

This stripe tee is from J.Crew, and it’s a great little spring closet basic. It has 3/4-length sleeves and a boat neck.

It has a split hem, and it’s cut straight all the way around.

The length is 24″, which is right in my favorite range. It’s short enough to leave untucked, but it can be front-tucked for a more modern look.

J.Crew Striped Boatneck T-shirt (size S) // This tee is a great closet basic, and the fit and quality is on point. It’s 100% cotton and made with some sustainable materials, and it runs true to size. Unfortunately, it’s not part of their current promo, so you may want to wait for a sale.

also wearing: AG Farrah skinnies with Everlane loafers

This pullover is also from J.Crew. At first glance, it looks pretty basic, but the subtle variations in texture give it a comforting worn-in look, and it’s garment-dyed for a nice depth of color.

Like the tee above, it’s part of their Re-Imagined line, which means it contains a sustainable material, like organic cotton, recycled polyester, or with certifications like Fair Trade.

It’s a great weight — not to thick, not too thin — and it’s comfortable but not especially soft.

I like this olive color a lot, but it also comes in a bunch of other colors, and some are on sale.

My only complaint is the length — at 22″, it’s more of a cropped look on me. I’d like it better if it were 23″ or 24″ long.

J.Crew Crewneck Pullover in Vintage Cotton Terry (size S) // If you like the cropped styling, this is a nice casual pullover for spring. (I’d even throw it on with shorts on a mild summer night.)

also wearing: LOFT Chewed Hem Slim Pocket Skinny Jeans in White with Madewell Sidewalk Low-Top Sneakers

Finally, a pair of rain boots! I have a pair of tall Hunters, but I thought it might be nice to have a lower shaft rain boot, and these are the duck boot style that’s a classic but also kind of trendy at the moment.

I was drawn to these lighter colors, which are fun for a change, and look more spring-like. These are the Ivory, although they look to be more of a blush in the online pictures.

These are very comfortable and soft inside, and they have some nice support in the footbed. They’re waterproof with a micro-fleece lining and cushioned insole for warmth and comfort.

They actually feel more like snow boots to me, but if you live in an area with wet, chilly spring weather, they’re perfect. Rubber rain boots can feel so cold inside, and I don’t always wear socks.

Sperry Saltwater Rain Boots (size 8.5) // If you live in a climate with cool, rainy springs, these are a nice addition to a casual wardrobe. I like the style better than traditional short rain boots, and they can double as snow boots if you need a pair of those too.

also wearing: J.Crew Striped Boatneck T-shirt with AG Farrah skinnies

And that’s a wrap! I hope you found some fun pieces to add to your spring wardrobe, or if you’re not shopping right now, maybe some inspiration to shop your closet.

I’ve been trying to be better about putting full outfits together when I do these try-on hauls, so you can get some outfit inspiration along with my fun fashion finds.

5 Ways to Wear Black Cigarette Pants: Girls’ Lunch Out

Happy Thursday, friends! This is the 4th look in my series on 5 Ways to Wear Black Cigarette Pants, and this time I have a look I might wear to meet a friend to lunch.

The denim jacket takes it down a level from my typical “date night” look, but the boots and silky tank are dressier than what I usually wear to run errands around town.

I actually think I’d like this look better with a more casual shoe — maybe a pointy toe ballet flat or my loafer mules.

But anyway! Since I am wearing these boots, I will sing their praises once again.

These boots are sooo comfortable.

They have a padded footbed, and the neoprene is soft and stretchy against the top of the foot, so you get the flattering shape of the pointy toe without any discomfort. Plus, the 3 1/2″ heel is stable and very walkable.

It thought the red tank was a nice pop of color with the black and denim — a nice change from the neutrals I usually gravitate towards.

Unfortunately this tank has sold out in the exact color I have, but it comes in other colors, some are on sale! It’s a really good layering piece if you’re looking for something that is bra-friendly, and I love the raw edge details.

I added a chunky mixed metal necklace and hoop earrings — both by Lucky Brand. They have a casual vibe that plays well off the denim jacket.

I’ve had so much fun styling these pants different ways. It’s a nice break from denim!

Of course, I did manage to slip some denim into this series with this jacket. It’s been my go-to denim jacket for several years. It has such a good versatile wash, and I love how stretchy and comfortable it is.

Here’s another way I’ve styled these pants with this denim jacket, and all four of my outfits from this series.

I’ll be back next week with my final post in the series, and it includes two spring work wear looks with the 1901 ankle skinny pants.

Outfit Details:

My Daily Looks: What I Wore Lately Vol. 6

Happy hump day, friends! It’s time for an another edition of What I Wore Lately.

Every other week on Wednesdays, I post my daily looks. This post is the answer to a question I often get: But what do you really wear?

I like to invest in quality pieces that feel good on, so these price points can be a bit higher than in my regular posts. I don’t ever add up the cost of an outfit. Instead, I make purchasing decisions based on the cost per wear of each item.

Because I usually buy my higher end pieces on sale when they’re being discontinued, the exact items I’m wearing aren’t always available. In that case, I try to link something similar.

Over the years, I’ve realized that I’d rather have fewer nice quality pieces that I love and wear over and over, than a closet full of things I got just because it seemed like a good deal in the moment. That’s a good way to end up with a closet full of clothes and nothing to wear.

Not to say every piece in my closet is an investment piece, but I try to consider my needs and how often I’ll wear an item when purchasing.

If you have a bunch of things in your closet with the tags still on, shoved to the back and forgotten, I highly recommend reading this post: How to Purge Your Closet and Love Your Wardrobe Again.

Then take an inventory of what’s left, and check out my Spring Wardrobe Essentials post and make a list of things you need to add to your closet to make it functional for your current size and lifestyle.

Okay, that was a bit of a detour. Let’s get started!

My Daily Looks: What I Wore Lately

As a reminder, I’m 5’5″ and usually wear a 28 or 29 in jeans and a small in tops. I’ll try to remember to give sizing notes where appropriate. (TTS = True To Size)

This first look is one that I wore to my weekly Bible Study, and then later that afternoon to an eye doctor appointment with my daughter. It was a rainy day, and I was really glad to have my waterproof Aquatalia sock booties.

I picked these up on a deep discount, but they’ve since sold out. This pair is similar, but full price. FYI, Blondo also makes a lot of waterproof booties, and many are on sale right now.

My sweater is was another clearance purchase that I got for a deep discount. It feels soooo nice on; I highly recommend 360Cashmere for quality sweaters. Here’s another option that’s on sale at Verishop.

similar 360Cashmere sweater // Agolde jeans (budget option) // boots (sold out; similar) // satchel // belt (budget option)

The next day was Friday, and I wore this to my workout… and then I kept it on all day. I know, that sounds gross, but I don’t sweat much. It’s so cold in the gym, and with my hip injury, we don’t do much cardio. We tend to lift heavy and take longer recovery breaks.

Anyway, Sweaty Betty is my new activewear discovery. I’ve actually worn this outfit all day a few times in the past several weeks.

I’ve never been one to wear activewear around all day, but now that I have some pieces that are more stylish, I don’t mind the look so much, and this way I’m ready to go out for a walk at any time. I’ve been trying to take a break mid-day for a long walk, rather than going out in the morning when it’s so cold.

Sweaty Betty hoodie // tank // leggings // sneakers // glasses

We went car shopping on Saturday, and I wore a white sweater and jeans with my snake print booties.

These jeans are currently 25% off, and they run TTS. They have a bit more stretch to them than the jeans I normally wear, so they have a very legging-like fit. I find them very comfortable, but you have to like that body-con style.

They have a comfortable 9″ rise, and they’re an inch shorter (27″ inseam) than the skinny jeans I normally wear. I’m liking this length a lot right now. They don’t fall into the back of my booties or require a cuff.

similar white sweater // Rag & Bone jeans (TTS and 25% off; similar for 40% off here and here; budget option) // booties

On Sunday, I wanted to wear my bright pick cowl neck sweater to church. I’ve shown it with blue jeans, but this time I paired it with my grey jeans.

I first tried it on with my black suede OTK boots…

I like it, but it seemed more Girls’ Night Out than Church on Sunday, so I switched to snake print mules. It was a chilly day for mules, but I get tired of wearing boots all the time.

This sweater is on trend and cozy and comes in a bunch of colors. It’s also under $100.

cowl neck sweater // grey jeans (TTS; budget option) // mules // hoops (budget option)

I came home from church and changed into some comfies to nap on the couch and watch the Super Bowl.

These jeans are getting big, but they’re so comfortable, I kept them to wear on days like this. (They run true to size; I just lost some weight, which is why they’re getting big.)

Goodthreads hoodie // Mother jeans (25% off; more sizes here) // slippers

I wore this the day we went to get C’s car. I didn’t feel like fixing my hair so I did a quick pony. It was cold and rainy, a perfect day for Sorels.

This sweater is from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, and if you’re a regular to these posts, you’ve seen it a bazillion times. It’s on sale at Nordstrom Rack but sizes are picked over.

For some reason, it’s fully stocked at full price on the Nordstrom website. I don’t recommend paying full price, but if you like it, you may want to reach out and see if they’ll price match.

Vince sweater (50% off; more sizes at full price) // AG jeans (TTS; less $$ option or budget option) // boots

I’m losing track of days and my schedule, but I’m assuming this was another day working from home and running my mom taxi service… although now that C has her own set of wheels, I don’t have to do quite as much of that these days.

I exchanged this sweater for a medium (I originally had the large), and I’m much happier with the fit. I love the colors for this time of year, and these loafers are my new favorite shoes. They are so comfortable!

Reformation stripe sweater // AG jeans (TTS; less $$ option or budget option) // loafers (LOVE!)

This is what I wore to the nail salon to get a fresh mani/pedi. I wanted to wear jeans I could easily roll up.

Of course, I wasn’t able to wear these shoes back home, but I had a couple errands to run first.

Halogen cashmere sweater // similar vest // Agolde jeans (budget option) // leopard flats (budget option) // necklace

This is what I wore last week to Bible Study. I thought the combination of oatmeal and grey was kind of fun.

I got this sweater when it went 50% off after the holidays, but I see it’s back to full price now. It is pure luxury — such great quality. But knowing it was already on sale, I would advise waiting for the next one.

Naadam cashmere sweater // grey jeans (TTS; budget option) // mules // necklace

I wore this comfy old sweater and jeans to the mall with R on Saturday.

My TB suede Minnie flats are pretty much sold out, but if you’re looking for them on Poshmark or eBay, they’re the Black Cherry color. I love them with winter neutrals!

similar v-neck sweater // AG jeans (TTS; less $$ option or budget option) // flats // necklace

And this is what I wore to church on Sunday. Everything is old except the coat.

I’ve been wanting to add a black wool coat to my wardrobe for years, but for some reason I could never seem to bite the bullet.

I finally grabbed this one when it went on sale, and I’m so glad I did. It’s a nice value for the price point, and it’s a classic cut that will never go out of style. If you’re looking for a coat like this, I highly recommend it.

I’m wearing the 4, for reference, so definitely size down. The best price is at Lord + Taylor, but sizes are pretty depleted. It’s 30% off at Zappo’s and 25% off at Nordstrom.

similar sweater // black jeans (TTS; budget option) // pumps (budget option) // coat (size down; I have a 4)

I had a photo shoot on Monday, and afterwards I wore this outfit again to run errands and work from home.

This time I went for my taupe Dolce Vita booties. These are very comfortable, with a padded insole, and the lower heel is nice for a change. I tend to have flats or 3+ inch heels in my closet, and I really like this 2-inch height for everyday.

similar sweater // Rag & Bone jeans (TTS and 25% off; similar for 40% off here and here; budget option) // booties (major sale)

Yesterday, I decided I was sick of all the usual suspects, so I pulled out my white jeans and this cozy striped sweater from LOFT.

I can’t believe this sweater is still fully stocked. It’s so cute and such a good price — just $29.

5 Favorites: Denim Edition

Happy Monday, my friends! It’s been a while since I’ve done a 5 Favorites post, and I’ve had some requests for my favorite jeans, so I thought I’d update this post with my 5 favorite pairs of jeans.

I love a good pair of jeans and I always have. I remember in high school splurging on a pair of Guess jeans, and I thought I had arrived. Haha!

I’ve always been willing to spend a little more on good quality denim because the fit is generally far superior to cheaper brands, they’re so much more comfortable, and I wear jeans so often, the cost per wear averages out. However, I realize that not everyone shares my priorities or budget, so I’m always on the lookout for more budget-friendly brands to recommend.

For this post, I’m going to do two sets of 5 Favorites so I can focus equally on premium denim and jeans under $100.

AG The Farrah High Waist Ankle Skinny Jeans

The main distinction between premium denim and everything else is price point. You’d think there would be some other qualifications like fabric content, quality of materials, where they are made, how they are made; but there are not any industry standards beyond price point.

Of course, price point is typically dictated by quality of fabric and workmanship.

If you read my post on What Makes A Garment Good Quality, you may remember that premium denim tends to be made with better quality materials and have greater attention to finishing details like the wash, whiskering, and distressing. Denim with more complex washes — over dye techniques, rips, tears, and custom finishes — will be more expensive, especially when done by hand.

The most important thing to consider when choosing jeans, however, is fit. You want to find a pair of jeans that fits and flatters you, and those can be found at any price point. Of course, I only know the jeans that fit and flatter me, so this is just a starting point if you’re looking for denim recommendations.

Where To Buy Jeans

AG Mari High Waist Slim Straight Leg Jeans

With big ticket items, I try to buy on sale when at all possible, and that is definitely the case with premium denim. Bloomingdale’s, Nordstrom, Shopbop, and Verishop are just a few retailers that regularly discount their designer denim brands, and I try to give y’all a heads-up whenever I see a good sale.

Also, if you know what to look for, you can score great finds at Saks Off Fifth and Nordstrom Rack.

Right now, Bloomingdale’s is having their Denim Days event, where you can save 25% off 2 or more pairs of jeans! (You get 15% off one pair.)

Also, Nordstrom is having their Winter Sale, and I expect Shopbop to run a big sale sometime this week. They usually do.

Verishop is a newer retailer to me, but they have free 1-day shipping and free returns, and they have a very highly curated selection of styles, which I love. Too many choices can be overwhelming!

Goodthreads Women’s Mid-Rise Crop Straight Jeans

If you’re looking for denim under $100, I’ve been pleased with some of the jeans I’ve tried from Everlane. J.Crew and Madewell are popular brands as well. Some like LOFT, Gap, and Old Navy; and I’ve even found a few good pairs at Amazon.

My 5 Favorite Jeans {Premium Denim}

#1. AG The Farrah High Waist Ankle Skinny Jeans

I consider AG pretty much the gold standard when it comes to jeans; it’s been my favorite denim brand for years. AG has the best washes, the best fit, and the best materials of all the jeans I’ve tried, and they only get better with age.

These Farrah skinnies have a 28″ inseam, 10″ leg opening, 10 1/2″ front rise; and the fabric is 98% cotton, 2% polyurethane.

Because of their fabric content, they don’t bag out on you as you wear them, but they do stretch a bit in the right places and mold to your body for that perfect lived-in fit.

I have since replaced them with this very similar pair from Nordstrom, with all the same measurements and fabric content. Both have that great mid-denim wash with shredded hem and great whiskering details.

I also have and love this pair from Bloomingdale’s, and these are currently 15%  or 20% off, depending on how many pairs you buy.

The wash is slightly lighter than the first pair, and they have plain raw hem (not shredded.)

I have the AG Farrah in black as well.

These have a 28″ inseam, 10 1/2″ leg opening, and 11″ front rise; and their fabric content is 55% viscose, 25% cotton, 18% polyester, 2% elastane.

This fabric gives them a bit of a trouser feel, although they definitely look like jeans. They hold their shape just as well as the 98% cotton jeans, and flatter the body in much the same way.

These jeans run TTS; I’ve had the 29 and recently was able to size down to 28 due to some weight loss.

BUY: AG The Farrah High Waist Skinny Jeans at Bloomingdales // Nordstrom // Shopbop // Verishop

#2. AGOLDE Toni Straight Leg Jeans

AGOLDE is a newer brand to me, and I’ve been really impressed with the fit and feel of these slim straight leg jeans.

It’s a very slim-fitting straight leg jean, so a nice option for those of us who are having a hard time moving away from our skinnies.

They’re extremely thick and soft, and the wash is a nice mid-wash that dresses up and down easily.

These jeans have a 26″ inseam, 12″ leg opening, and 10″ front rise; and the fabric is 66% lyocell, 32% organic cotton, 2% recycled elastane. They run TTS; I had the 29 and recently sized down to 28.

BUY: AGOLDE Toni Straight Leg Jeans at Nordstrom // Verishop // Shopbop // Net-a-porter

#3. Madewell 9″ Mid-Rise Skinny Jeans

These are my current go-to white jeans.

Madewell 9" Mid-Rise Skinny Jeans in Pure White

I looked far and wide to find white jeans that fit and flatter, and are not see-through. Yes, that unicorn DOES exist!!!

FYI, you can get these jeans for 20% off right now if you’re a Madewell Insider. It’s free to join Madewell Insiders, and in addition to qualifying for the occasional private sale, you get free shipping and free returns on all orders!

These jeans have a 9″ front rise, 28 1/2″ inseam (regular sizes), 9 3/4″ leg opening; and the fabric is 90% cotton, 8% polyester, 2% elastane.

They also come in petite, regular, tall, and taller sizes. No matter what your height challenge is, Madewell has a pair of white jeans for that! These jeans run TTS; I have the 29 from last summer.

BUY: Madewell 9″ Mid-Rise Skinny Jeans in Pure White at Madewell // Shopbop // Neimans

#4. Rag & Bone Shredded-Hem Ankle Skinny Jeans

I fell in love with Rag & Bone denim last spring when I discovered the Cate at Bloomingdale’s. The pair I have has since sold out, but I wore them a ton last spring and summer and into the fall.

Since losing some weight, they’re getting a little big for me, so I moved them to the back of my closet and added this pair in the Flint wash to my denim wardrobe.

Rag & Bone also does an amazing job with their wash and whiskering, and I love the shredded hem and the slightly shorter length on this pair. I didn’t love this particular wash at first, but it’s growing on me.

These jeans have a 9″ rise, 27″ inseam, and 10″ leg opening; and the fabric is 50% modal, 41.5% cotton, 6% polyester, 2.5% elastane.

They have a lot of stretch to them, so you have to be comfortable with a legging-like fit, but I really like them for my most casual looks, and they’ll be perfect for spring and summer.

Bonus, they’re currently 15% or 25% off at Bloomingdale’s, depending on how may pair of jeans you buy. They’re TTS; I’m in the 28.

BUY: Rag & Bone Shredded-Hem Ankle Skinny Jeans in Flint at Bloomingdale’s

#5. Frame Le High Ankle Skinny Jeans

Finally, these are my go-to grey skinnies at the moment.

Frame is not my favorite denim brand in general, as they sometimes slide down on me. I’m not sure why, they  just do. They don’t lose their shape, they just slide dowwwwwn.

These don’t do it as badly as some that I’ve had in the past, but now they’re getting big on me so I’m going to have to either buy the next size down or find a different pair of grey jeans.

This grey wash is very casual, but I love it. It’s a great shade of grey that seems to go with just about everything in my closet.

These jeans have very similar measurements to the AG Farrah — 28″ inseam, 10″ leg opening, 10″ front rise; and the fabric is 76% cotton, 15% modal, 6% polyester, 3% elastane. They run TTS; I’m in the 29, but I could use a 28 now.

BUY: Le High Ankle Skinny Jeans in Burton at Nordstrom // Shopbop // Frame

My 5 Favorite Pairs of Jeans Under $100

#1. Everlane The High-Rise Skinny Jeans

I recently discovered these white jeans (the black is good too!) and I really like the fit. They’re not as snug to the leg as the jeans I normally wear, but they’re nice for a change.

The denim is nice and sturdy, and they have just enough stretch to be comfortable.

These jeans have a 10.5” rise, 26.5″ inseam, and a 11″ leg opening; and the fabric is 98% cotton, 2% elastane. They run small; I’m in the 29, and the waist area is very snug.

#2. Gap High Rise Cigarette Jeans with Secret Smoothing Pockets

I’ve been wearing more cigarette jeans lately, although I just realized I didn’t put any in my Top 5 above. I tend to wear them more in the warmer months.

This Gap pair is a nice budget-friendly alternative to the AG Primas that I currently love.

I also tried on this pair in a lighter wash that I liked a lot.

These jeans have a 27″ inseam, and they also come in petite and tall sizes. They’re very high-waisted, but I couldn’t get an exact measurement for that. They run TTS or a bit small; I’m in the 28 here, but they’e verrry snug, even after my weight loss.

#3. Goodthreads Women’s Mid-Rise Crop Straight Jeans

These jeans are from Amazon, and they’re pretty good for a straight crop jean. I’m wearing the bleach wash here.

They also come in this deep blue.

These jeans have a 9 5/8” rise and a 26″ inseam; and the fabric is 93% Cotton, 5% Polyester, 2% Elastane. I wore them all afternoon, and they didn’t bag out, so I was duly impressed.

The wash and attention to detail is a bit lacking in sophistication, but at this price point, these are a solid choice. They run TTS or a bit small; I found the 28 to be snug and I kept the 29, but I’m afraid I’ll regret that if I continue to maintain this lower weight.

#4. J.Crew 10″ highest-rise raw hem skinny jean with button fly

I’m having a hard time finding a picture of these, but I know I liked them and was impressed with the quality at the price point. In the interest of time, I’m going to share the stock photo.

#5. Wit & Wisdom Ab-Solution Skinny Ankle Jeans

I’m also going to have to go with a stock photo of these. I wanted to include a pair of black jeans, and these are the ones I always link when I want a similar for less version to my AG Farrahs.

I have tried them, and the fit is really good. They do tend to bag out, so I recommend sizing down.

These jeans have a 27 1/2″ regular inseam, 10″ leg opening, and 10 1/2″ front rise; and they also come in petite sizes. The fabric is 65% cotton, 33% polyester, 2% spandex.

So there you have it! I doubt many of these are a surprise to you regulars, but hopefully it’s helpful if you’re making denim purchases this spring.
