Greetings, and happy Friday Eve! The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale opens to all cardholders at midnight tonight, Pacific time. (Yes, that is 3AM EST. Don’t shoot the messenger. I don’t set the times, I just report them!)
If you missed it, be sure to check out my #NSale Dressing Room Try-Ons, and you can find all my 2021 #NSale posts linked at the top of my blog. I’ve got a post on The Best Beauty Buys, The Best Basics, and I’m working on one for Men and Teens. As always, using my Nordstrom links to shop the sale is a way you can support my blog, and it is SO very much appreciated!
As I’ve had more time to try things on, and process the offerings of this sale, this is how I’d sum it up: There aren’t a lot of pieces that are new or different this year, but deals are good on most things, if they fill a hole in your wardrobe. If you’re pretty much set for fall, this is a great time to make an investment purchase.
There are a few standout items (handbags, mostly!) and some good deals on basics if you need them, but I could easily make a Top Ten list and be done — in fact, let’s do it. Here you go.
My Top 10: The Items I’m Definitely Keeping
As you can see, there are a lot of investment pieces in there. Since there isn’t a ton of new, fun stuff, I would recommend using this sale to purchase one or two really nice things for yourself that you might not otherwise buy.
I’ve always said you get the most bang for your buck during this sale on the higher ticket items, but that has never been more true than it is this year. That said, I have a ton, and I mean A TON of stuff to show you. I hope this helps you sort through the noise and find a few really great pieces that you will enjoy all winter long, and maybe even for years to come.
2021 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Try-On Haul
SIZING INFO: For size reference, I’m 5’5″ and around 137 pounds, and I usually take a 6/28 in pants/jeans, a small in tops, and size 8 shoe. I tried to remember to put my sizes beside the links under the pictures, but feel free to ask in the comments.
There aren’t as many great options in this category this year, but I found a few to love. I’m not keeping all of these, but they’re all ones I highly recommend, if they fit your lifestyle and budget.
AllSaints Lock Roll Neck Wool Blend Sweater
Sale:$149.90; Original Price: $245.00
I shared this sweater already, but I got home and styled it up with these AG Mari straight ankle jeans and my favorite boots from the sale this year, and I had to share again. It’s starting to sell out, and for good reason. It’s one of the best sweaters in the sale.
It doesn’t help that a lot of other “influencers” (I hate that term) are promoting it, but I assure you, there is nothing nefarious going on. We aren’t getting paid to promote certain items. This just happens to be one of the few really different and interesting pieces in the sale this year, and the quality is top notch. It’s TTS and comes in four really good colors. I’d be happy with any one of them, but I do love this ivory.
AllSaints Ridley Funnel Neck Wool & Cashmere Sweater
Sale: $169.90, Original Price: $259.00
I tried this top on at the mall, but for some reason, I didn’t get a picture. I think this or something like it has been around the block before, but I never had one, and I really like this one. It has deep batwing sleeves but the fitted cuffs and hem keep it from being too shapeless. The fabric is a soft, lightweight, ribbed lambswool/cashmere blend.
Vince Short Sleeve Wool-Blend Sweater
Sale:$119.90; Original Price: $195.00
This is different than what I expected. It doesn’t have actual sleeves, it’s more of a dolman. It’s extremely soft and lightweight, but not see-through thin, and has a great drape.
I love this peacock color, but it also comes in black. I wish the crewneck was a little wider, but it’s not a deal breaker. I’ve already taken the tags off this one. Love it.
Theory Cashmere Crewneck Sweater
Sale: $175.90; Original Price: $265.00
I was excited to see a few classic pieces from Theory in this year’s sale. I really like this sweater, but it’s on the thinner side. You can almost see through it.
It’s sublimely soft and gorgeous, though, and the classic fit is one that will serve you well for many years. Here’s how it layers under a moto jacket.
I love everything about this outfit. I’d wear it right now, if it weren’t 88 degrees and 95% humidity!
Nordstrom Signature Cashmere Hoodie
Sale: $148.90; Original Price: $249.00
If I could keep only one sweater in this category, it would be this one. The cashmere on this sweater is incredibly thick and plush. It is such a good value, this quality cashmere is hard to find, even at higher price points.
I also love the sporty hoodie design, and the shade of taupe is gorgeous. It also comes in light grey and a gorgeous pink. It runs a little big, so you may want to size down if in between. I stuck with my usual size small.
ATM Anthony Thomas Melillo Women’s Crop Cardigan
Whelp! This one is completely sold out. I’m still sharing, in case of restocks. It was reeeeally pricey, and I didn’t expect to like it as much as I do, but I have to admit, it’s a good one. Even though it’s boxy and chunky, it still seems flattering somehow, and this style is very on trend right now. This sweater is true to size.
Vince Easy Fit Crewneck Wool & Cashmere Sweater
Sale: $179.90; Original Price: $295.00
Vince has a version of this sweater in the #NSale every year, and this one is a true classic. If you need a wardrobe staple like this, it’s a great time to grab one. This year’s version is 70% wool, 30% cashmere; and it’s 24″ long. It comes in Cream, Caribou (a really nice shade of taupe) and this Shell Pink.
Here it is in the taupe. I love this one too. So many decisions…
Nordstrom Signature V-Neck Cashmere Sweater
Wow, another complete sellout. I was on the fence about this one, anyway. I will return it ASAP so someone else can enjoy it. It’s a little low-cut for me, and while it’s a great fall color, I know I won’t wear it past November, so I don’t feel like I’d get a good cost per wear… even though it is one I could keep for years due to the classic styling.
The fabric is amazing, though, and the quality is definitely worth the price. If they restock, and this color/style works for you and your budget, I definitely recommend trying it.
Sweaters & Tops Under $50
There are some good pieces in this price point, and it’s a good way to pick up a few trendy styles or fall colors you may not wear all year ’round.
Treasure & Bond Women’s Turtleneck Sweater
Sale: $39.90, Original Price: $59.00
This is probably my favorite under-$50 sweater in the sale this year. I’m so bummed the chocolate brown seems to be sold out. It’s a great fall color, but it also comes in black, blush, and light grey.
It’s made of that soft, stretchy, spongy knit that feels really good on and doesn’t stretch out — 55% cotton, 26% polyester, 11% nylon, 5% wool, 3% spandex. I really like the relaxed turtleneck and relaxed fit. It’s 25 1/” long, so it looks best front-tucked, and it runs true to size.
Treasure & Bond V-Neck Sweater
Sale: $39.90, Original Price: $69
This is that same soft, stretchy, spongy material as the one above; but it’s a little bit shorter at 24″. It also has a really flattering v-neck and extra long ribbed cuffs for added interest. This orange-red is really fun for fall, and it also comes in black, beige, and grey.
Halogen Balloon Sleeve Sweater
Sale: $49.90, Original Price: $89.00
This sweater is also that soft, stretchy, spongy knit, but I don’t like the fit as well as the Treasure & Bond turtleneck above. The balloon sleeves add extra bulk where I don’t need it, and the ribbed knit is thicker than the two sweaters above.
UGG Cecilia V-Neck Sweater
Sale: $58.90, Original Price $88.00
This sweater is everything you would expect an UGG sweater to be. It’s thick and impossibly soft and cozy. Best of all, there’s no wool content, for those who can’t tolerate that. The fabric is 88% polyester, 22% nylon. It runs true to size.
Treasure & Bond Women’s Drape Turtleneck Sweater
Sale: $45.90; Original Price: $69.00
This is a popular #NSale sweater, back for the 3rd year in a row. It really is a good one. I have the ivory from 2019 and the pumpkin from last year. It’s soft, stretchy, easy to front tuck or leave out, and it runs true to size with a relaxed fit.
Caslon Open Front Cardigan
Sale: $45.90, Original Price: $69.00
There are several long cardigans in the sale this year, and this is the only one I tried. I really like the fabric and the rib trim and the seamless pockets. It’s not too long or too voluminous, and it’s cozy and comfortable. The fabric is 78% acrylic, 14% nylon, 5% wool, 3% spandex; and it runs true to size.
WAYF Ariana Turtleneck Vest
Sale: $49.90, Original Price: $78
Sweater vests are trending this fall, and this one is a nice blend of sweater vest and sleeveless turtleneck sweater. I love this style for mild fall days and it also layers nicely under jackets.
This sweater also comes in camel, but it appears to be sold out. Let’s hope for restocks!!!
Handbags: The Best Part of #NSale 2021
It is my opinion that the handbags are the best part of the sale this year. While I miss some of the staple brands… hello, Rebecca Minkoff!!! AllSaints and Clare V. really rose to the occasion. There are also some nice offerings from Tory Burch and Madewell.
AllSaints Edbury Leather Shoulder Bag
Sale: $196.90, Original Price: $329
This bag is another one of the reasons I’m saying AllSaints saved the sale this year. The pebbled leather is buttery and supple, but not too soft. It holds a fair amount and slides easily onto the shoulder for easy carrying. I love the buckle detail, and it has the perfect slouch.
The color is super versatile, but it definitely has a warmer cast to it. I really like how it pairs with the Vince Camuto Welland booties in Tortilla Suede. FYI, the Amtinda Square Toe Bootie also comes in Tortilla Suede.
AllSaints Alpha Convertible Leather Backpack
Sale: $226.90, Original Price: $379
This convertible backpack is super cool. I love how you can carry it as a backpack or shoulder bag, although even when using the backpack straps, I would probably carry it over one shoulder.
It also comes in black… or it did. It isn’t showing up at the moment, but this Dusty Khaki Green is such a great fall color that reads as a neutral.
Sale: $332.90, Original Price: $555.00
I had no idea I would love this bag so much. I ordered it more out of curiosity than anything, but I can see using this A LOT this fall and winter. Or actually, starting right now. It’s such a good neutral. It seems to go with everything — warm tones, cool tones, pretty much any solid color and even some prints, for those of us who are a little more daring.
I was expecting it to be some sort of calf hair, but it’s actually made of a buttery soft suede. It doesn’t stand alone, but when you put it down, it has the most glorious slouch. And there is a good base to the bag, and it has feet on the bottom. I love how the inside is raw suede, but it does have a nice sized slip pocket to fit a large smartphone.
The only issue I have with the bag is the short handles. If you want to put it over your shoulder, you need to use the strap, but it carries nicely that way as well. The bold stripes give it a more modern, casual vibe, but you can easily tuck that shoulder strap inside (or remove it if you really don’t like it) when you want to keep to the more sophisticated neutral palette.
Tory Burch Carson Striped Crossbody Bag
Sale: $149.90, Original Price: $268
Yet another really fun bag from the #NSale this year! This one has a very summery vibe, but the brown leather trim will allow it to work for fall as well.
If you like the look but need something larger, the Carson convertible shoulder bag is a good option.
Sale: $274.90, Original Price: $498
sweater // jeans // loafers // bag
I was really excited to see Tory Burch change it up this year with her handbag selection. This mid-size leather hobo caught my eye when I was shopping in store on Monday, so I brought it home to try it out with some of my outfits. It’s a great shape, and the size is just right — not too big, not too small.
There are some really good buys in this category, and if you need something, this is a good time to grab a pair. They have a decent assortment of styles, and a good variety of price points. For this post, I’m focusing on premium denim, but I have a post in the works with KUT from the Kloth, if you’re looking for a lower price point. Wit & Wisdom has some good options as well.
AG Mari High Waist Slim Straight Leg Jeans
Sale: $149.90, Original Price: $225.00
I discovered these straight ankle jeans last winter, and I wore them quite a bit, but then I didn’t find myself reaching for them much this summer. Now that I’m styling fall outfits, I’m finding this style very useful for bridging the gap… or maybe I should say the great divide… between my beloved skinny jeans and the straighter, relaxed styles that are taking over the fashion scene.
Here they are with a heeled sandal.
They also pair well with the Vince Camuoto Welland booties…
And also with the Frame Chelsea boots…
I’m so happy to find a Chelsea bootie/straight leg denim combo that works!
AG Farrah Skinny Ankle Jeans
Sale: $149.90, Original Price: $225
This is one of my favorite styles of skinny jean. They have a 28″ inseam, 10″ leg opening, and 11″ front rise. They’re just a good classic skinny jean, and this versatile wash goes with just about everything.
7 For All Mankind Dojo Wide Leg Jeans
Sale: $99.90; Original Price: $198.00
Are these bringing back the early 2000 vibes, or what!?! These jeans are suuuuper long, with a 36″ inseam. Even with heels, I would need to have them hemmed.
I love the retro flares, and I really hope we start seeing more of them this year. These are also on an amazing discount, at 50% off.
NYDJ Marilyn Stretch Straight Leg Jeans
Sale: $78.90, Original Price: $119
These jeans are very stretchy and comfortable, and I’m liking the full-length straight leg for a change. I recommend sizing down a full size in these; I’m wearing the 4, and they feel like they might bag out as I wear them. I’m keeping tags on until I see how they do.
Mother The Looker High Waist Crop Skinny Jeans
Sale:$149.90; Original Price: $228.00
These are a great classic skinny jean in a medium indigo wash, and a trendy crop length that pairs well with anything from sneakers to booties. These run true to size, or size up if in between.
Caslon Split Neck Organic Cotton Blend Thermal Knit Top // Sale: $19.90, Original Price: $35.00 // This waffle knit top is perfect for transition season. I love the split neck, and it’s really comfortable and breathable. It comes in a lot of great colors, and for $20, you’ll definitely want to grab one or two! It’s true to size.
Mother The Insider High Waist Crop Step Fray Hem Jeans
Sale: $159.90; Original Price: $238.00
By far and away, my favorite jeans in this sale. I love the wash, the fit on these, and the comfort factor. I mentioned them in Monday’s Dressing Room Try-On Sesh, but I styled them a few different ways for this post as well. FYI, size up these run really small.
Also, a quick note about the tee. I had high hopes for this Splendid V-Neck T-Shirt (Sale: $29.90, Original Price: $48.00) because I love my Splendid Kate V-Neck, but this one is too thin and too tight for my liking, even in the size medium. I suppose I could try a large, but that would probably be too low-cut, so I sent it back.
Boots & Shoes
There are a LOT of boots in this sale, but I didn’t fall in love with many. By far and away, my favorites are the Vince Camuto Welland booties, even though the style may seem rather tired at this point. I was hoping to fall in love with more Chelsea boots and lug soles, but so far the only ones I really like are the ones with more of a heel. Case in point…
Louise Et Cie Varsan Platform Chelsea Boot
Sale: $99.90; Original Price: $179.95
For the price point, these are fabulous boots. They have the Chelsea boot styling that is very on trend, but rather than the rugged lug sole, they have a sawtooth platform and chunky block heel. They’re very comfortable, and fairly versatile when pairing with different pant leg styles.
Here’s how they look with a longer, straight leg jean.
And with crop flares…
And with skinnies…
I also ordered the Tory Burch Chelsea Lug Bootie, after hemming and hawing for a few days. I saw them in-store, and they are GORGEOUS, but I didn’t try them at the time. I like the price and the color of the Louise et Cie, but the Tory is a little more streamlined and has a dressier vibe, so we’ll see.
I have a few more pairs I need to photograph, so I’ll add on to this section when I get a chance. Also, I’m still waiting on a few pairs by Franco Sarto that looked promising, but here are my top boot picks so far:
P448 John Low Top Sneaker
Sale: $199.90, Original Price: $298.00
These P448s are so comfortable, with lots of cushion, and plenty of room in the toe bed (unlike Golden Goose, which always seem to pinch my toes, so I’ve never kept a pair.) I took a close-up so you can see the details, and I’ve since fixed the laces. You can check out my Instagram Story for how I like to tie them, if you need a quick tutorial.
Check out the other P448 styles in the sale, there are a lot of good ones!
Leather Biker Jackets
My top two picks in this category are ones I already own. Y’all know how I love a good leather jacket, and these are both well worth the investment, if they fit your budget.
AllSaints Dalby Leather Biker Jacket
Sale: $299.90, Original Price: $459
I have this jacket from last year, and I absolutely love it. I was so excited to see it back again. The leather is GORGEOUS, and it fits so well. I recommend sizing up in this jacket, I’m wearing the 8.
I don’t, however, love the proportions of that outfit. I’m struggling to style those jeans for winter. I don’t care for them with these boots, and the sweater I’m wearing is too long for them. It cuts me in half. Take a look at this next outfit. Much better!
Caslon Leather Moto Jacket with Removable Hood
Sale: $199.90, Original Price: $299.00
I got this jacket during last year’s #NSale, and I was so glad to see they brought it back. It’s really soft and supple, impressively good quality for this brand, and I love the sporty hood. You can remove it, if you want a dressier look, but I’ve never bothered. This jacket runs true to size; I have the small.
Dresses & Jumpsuits
I tried on a few dresses and jumpsuits at the store on Monday, but I didn’t bring any of those home. Check out my Dressing Room Try-Ons for those. I only have one here at home, and it’s currently sold out in the black, but the grey is cute too.
Halogen Sleeveless Cutout Ponte Dress
Sale: $49.90; Original Price: $75.00
This dress is really fun, and the cutout detail is very on trend this season. The fabric is nice and thick and not too clingy, and I really like the length, just below the knee but before the widest part of my calf. Unfortunately, it is too revealing for me. If you’re smaller on top, it’s probably fine. It’s TTS; I’m in the small.
Well, as always, there are more things I wish I could show you, and pictures I’m thinking I should have taken. I wasn’t focusing in on individual items so much, as I was trying to make complete outfits. I’m curious to know what you guys are loving, so let me know!
