Back to School Essentials for Dorm Living

I can’t believe it’s already time to talk about sending my daughter back to college, but we can’t ignore the inevitable any longer. The good news is, she’s excited to go back and see her friends and all of her favorite haunts. Last year at this time, we weren’t sure how it was going to go, and I will take it this way, thankyouverymuch!

While she already has a lot of dorm living essentials waiting for her back in Massachusetts, we wanted to give her a little refresh. We found some really good deals at the Macy’s Back to School Event: Now through July 24th, you get an extra 20% off on Back to School Gear and More with code BTS!

Fresh pillows were the first thing we threw into the cart. You can’t beat the price of this 2-pack set. And how pretty is this Martha Stewart Microfiber 3 Pc. Sheet Set? It comes in the Twin XL, and Caroline chose the soothing palm print.

She also wanted new bedding for her sophomore year, and the price on this reversible 6-pc. Twin XL comforter set was too good to pass up. This chunky knit throw was also a must.

I suggested this laptop backpack for schlepping back and forth across the quad to classes.

Finally, we grabbed this Bath Accessory Caddy Set. It includes a wrap towel, spa headband, and coordinating carry tote — perfect for dorm living.

  1. Congratulations to your daughter (and her parents!) on this exciting time! I will save this post for next year when my oldest heads out to college.

  2. Hi, I always enjoyed new bedding when I was in college. Back in the early 90’s we studied on our beds, and friends sat on our beds, so the bedding did wear out from year to year. I’m glad your daughter is excited to return to college. What do your children’s majors? I know the youngest is still in high school, and enjoying marching band. Have a great day!

      1. I knew it! I love that dress. I am a seamstress also, and I haven’t been sewing recently, but it makes me want to get back to it.
I just received the Nordstrom Signature cable sweater and I love it! I also got one of the Vince cashmere sweaters from Saks off5th and the quality is amazing. Your recommendations are always spot on!

  3. What a great post! I am smiling just thinking about how much Caroline is enjoying her college experience. I know that her excitement makes it so much easier on your momma heart and on Paul’s protective dad heart. I really like all of the items she selected to refresh her dorm room. Safe travels home!

  4. I love that your daughter is always wearing her cute handmade dresses. She certainly embraces her own style; she’s darling. 💕

  5. Awww!!! She’s so cute. I can’t believe she’s heading back already. Summer goes too fast. I remember those days. I did 3 kids off to college. Now they are married and each with 1 child. I have grandkids age 1,2,3. It’s been fun to have them close in age. Holidays are fun. Won’t be long and you will be planning weddings and looking forward to grandkids. Lol. Safe trip home. We head home tomorrow. Heading into Idaho today for visit then 6 1/2 hour drive home tomorrow to Oregon. We saw grands on our trip too. My heart is full. :). Loved your post with Caroline. Tell her she looks cute in that dress and love her flats.

  6. PS. Just read Caroline made her dress!!!!! That is great. She’s so talented. Amazing she can sew that detailed.

  7. Lovely dress and great job! Caroline. It amazes me that you gave Caroline such a classic, classy name,it ended up being a perfect fit with her personal style. 😊👌🏻💕

  8. Caroline is all grown up! I remember her pictures from last year and I can see her showing a more mature, confident glow. Hope she has a great year and love the cute dress and shoes! Be blessed!
