Holiday Gift Guide for the Grands

One of my most requested gift guides of the season is here! It’s the question we’re all asking when the holidays roll around… What to give the grandparents?

You know, the people who have everything. The ones trying to downsize, not add to their clutter. The ones who prefer experiences over things.

Amy and I put our heads together and came up with a list of unique and thoughtful gift ideas for some of the most special people in your life.

one // two // three // four // five // six // seven // eight // nine // ten // eleven // twelve // // fourteen // fifteen // sixteen // seventeen // eighteen

My holiday gift guides are coming out three times a week — on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Be sure you’re subscribed to my daily email newsletters so you don’t miss any!

Holiday Gift Guide for the Grands

If you’ve been hanging around for a while, you might remember some of these gift ideas from years past, but we also came up with a bunch of new ones. The repeat ideas were the most popular sellers from previous years.

#1. WeatherTech CupFone or DeskFone // This mobile phone holder sits conveniently in any vehicle’s cup holder, and the fully adjustable tilt and rotation allows you to see your favorite navigation app when on the road. You can leave your phone plugged in while it’s in the cup holder, and remove it or replace it with one hand, without having to disconnect the charging cord. Plus, it’s designed and manufactured in America!

#2. Amazon Echo Show // This nifty device works like an Amazon Echo, but you can also make video calls and upload pictures for them. It’s a great way to stay in touch with the grandkids! It also enables them to watch TV shows or movies with Prime Video or Netflix and stream Amazon Music, Apple Music, or Spotify.

#3. Neveo // Family members can upload pictures from their phones, and this service that puts them together and mails a newsletter to the recipient each month. This is a perfect gift for the grandparents who don’t do tech.

#4. Faux Bamboo Plant // If your grandparents don’t have the greenest thumb, get them this beautiful and realistic plant.

#5. Personalized Cutting Board // I love this idea of getting a cutting board personalized with a grandchild’s drawing or all of their grandkids’ names.

#6. Our Place Skillet // They will appreciate how well this cooks, how easy it is to clean, and how stylish it looks.

#7. Back and Neck Massager // Give them something that will relax them and get rid of the tension all at once. I gave Paul one of these last year for Christmas, and we all fight over who gets to use it.

#8. Indoor/Outdoor Digital Thermometer // This nifty gadget not only tells them the temp indoors and out, but the humidity as well.

#9. Personalized Door Mat // A doormat that can be personalized however you like. Makes for a fun and unique gift, and it’s practical too!

#10. Memories for my Grandchild // This gift is more for the family, but having your grandparents write down their life story is something everyone will cherish.

#11. Digital Photo Frame // This is perfect for them to keep a rotating slideshow of all the grandkids. You can preload it so when they open the gift, they can start watching right away.

#12. Bliss Plus Throw // It wouldn’t be one of my gift guides without this cozy throw! Such a good price, and everyone loves it. It’s nice to have an extra one or two on hand for grandkid sleepovers and/or movie night.

#13. Windproof Travel Umbrella // This is a great gift because it’s something you don’t think about buying until you need it. This one is great for the grands because of the easy one-touch design, plus the double vented canopy is designed to withstand strong winds.

#14. Dyson V8 Vacuum // This ain’t your grandmother’s vacuum cleaner… well, now it is! They will appreciate this lightweight and powerful cordless stick vacuum that is super easy to use.

#15. Indoor Zen Garden // This kit provides several different options for a calming zen garden they can enjoy for years to come.

#16. Nordstrom Towel Set // Refresh their bathroom towels! Amy recently purchased some of these, and she was pleasantly surprised with the thickness, softness, and absorbency.

#17. Ultrasonic Cool Mist Aromatherapy Diffuser // This elegant diffuser will keep their house filled with the fragrances they love.

#18. Latitude and Longitude Pillow // Document a special location with this personalized pillow.

A Few More Gift Ideas, not pictured

Experiences // We are big on giving experiences as gifts. In years past, we’ve taken our parents to a local theater production at Christmastime, and sometimes we give them a handmade “dinner voucher” and take them out to dinner sometime after the holidays. Also consider memberships to local museums, botanical gardens, etc. These types of gifts are really a two-fer because they get the experience, but they also get to spend time with US! We think we’re a pretty fun gift, ha!

Donations in Their Name // My father always likes us to make a donation in his name to one of his favorite charities, and this is a gift I always feel really good about. I’m not adding more clutter to his life, and we can give a useful gift to someone truly in need.

In that same vein, you can give gifts from Compassion’s Gift Catalog in someone’s name.

Health + Ancestry Service // A fun gift for anyone who is interested in knowing more about their ancestry and genetic health. With a saliva sample, 23andMe provides insights on genetic health, traits, and ancestry through detailed reports and other tools.

Magazine Subscription // For those on a fixed budget who don’t want another monthly expense, a subscription to their favorite magazine may be appreciated. Also consider a gift subscription to Audible for the avid readers.

And that’s a wrap! Be sure to check out the rest of my 2021 Holiday Gift Guides, and if you have any amazing gift ideas for college students or young adults starting off on their own, feel free to drop them in the comments.

  1. A couple of Christmases ago our kids gave us a photo frame similar to the one you have on the list. It is hands down the best gift we’ve ever received! We all have apps on our phones so that photos can be sent directly to the frame via wi-fi, so it’s always being updated. The capacity is unlimited – we have almost 3,000 photos on ours so far! It runs in a random slideshow, automatically turns on and off with a light sensor – we absolutely love it! Ours is Aura brand, but I know there are others out there.

    1. We received the Aura frame for Christmas last year as well.
At the time we were housebound, unable to go out due to Covid 19. It was our biggest “boost” every day.
Seeing our kids and Grandkids amazing. We are not very tech savy…My daughter dropped it off (seriously, she left it on the back deck-we had no contact what-so-ever last year) and we turned it on and it worked.

Still look forward to new additions every day.

  2. These are great ideas! My in-laws would love the personalized doormat and my parents would enjoy tickets to the theatre or a similar event. Thanks!

  3. We purchased the Neveo photo magazine for my mother-in-law last year based on your gift guide. It was the best gift! She has 8 children and numerous grandchildren/great-grandchildren across the country so it’s a way for her to see the daily life and happenings of everyone. You are able to upload up to 50 photos and add captions. She keeps them all and has told us numerous times how much she loves it. We are purchasing it again this year!
