How to Style an All White Outfit for Spring

Good morning on this Memorial Day Monday! I noticed that the sales didn’t really change much today, and I didn’t find any new ones to highlight (I’m shocked Evereve isn’t doing one of their one-day sitewide sales!) so I decided to share this all white outfit that I wore last week.

Monochrome outfits are always chic, but they’re having a moment this spring, especially all white looks, so I wanted to try putting one together.

Frame tee (XS) // MOTHER Insiders (29) // P448 sneakers (39) // YSL bag // YSL belt  // Lagos earrings // Lagos station bracelet & chain bracelet // similar Madewell necklace // YSL sunnies // nails: OPI Cajun Shrimp

And yes, I realize this outfit is pretty spendy, so I put together a similar-for-less version at the end of this post.

When I go to my closet to get dressed for the day, I tend to make my outfits around a certain piece – like a fun top, a pair of shoes that makes sense for my daily activities, or a specific pair of jeans I want to wear.

I don’t usually think to start with a concept in mind, like an all white or all black outfit, but that’s another great way to extend your wardrobe and get more wear out of your favorite closet essentials.

Since I knew I wanted an all white outfit, I first took a look at my collection of white jeans. I have accumulated quite a few pairs over the past few seasons, so I had a few options, but not all of them work with every shoe. Some I can only wear with heels, and some I prefer to wear with flats, so then I looked at my shoes.

I already know I like how my white P448 sneakers look with these white crop step fray bootcut jeans, so I put those together.

I was hoping to post this outfit while these sneakers were fully stocked, but they went on sale last week, and the most popular sizes sold out quickly. I love the mix of textures and metallic tones, and how they look luxe and sporty at the same time.

If you like the P448 look, here are some other options. And, of course, you can wear any white sneaker with this outfit; it doesn’t have to be these.

Once I had the shoes and jeans picked out, the rest of the outfit came together easily. I wanted to keep it casual, so a white t-shirt was the obvious choice. I have a few white t-shirts to choose from, so I went with the one that is the most “special” in my opinion.

Because the outfit is so simple, and I wasn’t incorporating a “completer piece” (jacket or cardigan), I wanted something a little more elevated than a plain t-shirt, and I love the shape of the V-neck and the sleeve detail on this one. That said, if all you have is a plain t-shirt, no worries! Just jazz it up with accessories.

The tip for keeping a monochrome outfit interesting is to use a mix of tones and textures, and don’t neglect the accessories. I decided to wear a taupe belt to accentuate the waist and separate the white top from the white bottoms.

You could also do cognac or brown, but it would be a bit of a higher contrast look, and I prefer the low contrast since the idea is to keep the outfit all white.

Finally, I matched my handbag to the belt, and I wore mixed metal jewelry and finished the look with my favorite sunglasses. White sunglasses would be fun, for sure, but I don’t have a pair, and I don’t think I’d wear them very often, so I just went with the black. I think they work because my hair is so dark.

If you have lighter hair, I highly recommend having a pair of sunglasses in a similar color/tone, like a tortoiseshell, or what have you, because they will always look good, no matter what you’re wearing.

As I said above, I realize this outfit altogether is pretty spendy, so I put together a similar for less version. Take a look!

Frame tee (similar for less) // MOTHER Insiders (similar for less and HERE) // P448 sneakers (similar for less) // Tory Burch camera bag (similar for less) // rag & bone belt (similar for less) // Lagos earrings (option) // YSL sunnies (similar for less)

Of course, it’s even better when you can shop your closet, but no matter what your budget, you can rock an all-white outfit!

  1. You have mentioned your trip to Italy this summer. I’m hoping you will give wardrobe packing ideas and tips for this. Maybe when you come back mentioning what worked well and what did not.
    Thanks! I enjoy your site!

  2. Love this look. Thinking of ordering the budget friendly belt to do the look. The outfit does need the belt for sure.

  3. As a Viet Nam vet, Larry does not talk about his time serving our country except for when he was working at a highly classified technology facility up on a mountain in Germany. He has no desire to recall the death and dismemberment he witnessed. I really like the white outfit you created. Since belts and I don’t get along at all, I would wear some fun & colorful jewelry to draw your eyes upward and to add interest. Enjoy your Memorial Day!

    1. Yes, my grandfather was the same. He never talked about it until he was in his final years. But he always marched in the Memorial Day parade in his hometown and wore his army uniform jacket. 🙂

  4. Yesterday I put a few things in my Evereve cart in hopes there’d be a sale site wide today. Bummer!

      1. I ordered the light blue quilted jacket that was on sale at Evereve but shopped through your link so you got credit. 🙂 Hope it fits. 🙂

  5. Thank you! I’ve been wondering how to do an all white look and your suggestions are perfect! I wanted to mention that Jenni Kayne is also having a 20% off sale with code on the website. Yes, spendy, but I’ve been wanting a black cotton fisherman sweater so this was my best opportunity.

  6. As a nurse who used to wear white all the time, I would never wear an all white outfit! LOL! Now an all black, I can get into! Thanks for sharing!

  7. Outfit well though out and put together. The belt and cross bag pull it all to gather. I have question color and name brand of nail polish. The nail polish also helps with the put to gather outfit. Have great day.
