TOP TEN IN MARCH 🍀

Good morning, and happy Saturday! It’s time for my Top Ten in March 2020.

This is a regular feature on the blog, and I always find it interesting to see what resonated most with you all. I hope you find it interesting as well!

I also included a bunch of Weekend Sale Picks at the end of this post . . . so much sale goodness this weekend!

These were the most popular blog posts and retail products among JLS readers during the month of March.

TOP 10 POSTS IN MARCH 2020

You know the drill. Based on Google Analytics, these were my top 10 posts from last month. I’m listing these in typical Top Ten order, with the most popular post last.

#10. The Best Winter to Spring Transition Shoes // It’s really weird to look at some of these posts from earlier in the month, and think that we had no idea at the time what was coming for us.

The day I published this post is the same day that I went to a funeral visitation for a friend who had suddenly and unexpectedly lost her 14-year-old son. At that point, we knew about Coronavirus, and those of us who were paying attention knew it was going to be serious; but I don’t think any of us expected it to accelerate as quickly as it has, or to affect our lives so dramatically.

I remember being cautious about hugging people and shaking hands during the funeral visitation, and we all used hand sanitizer generously as soon as we exited the church.

A group of us went out afterwards for drinks, and we all had varying opinions on how Coronavirus was going to affect us in the coming weeks. I was probably the one most concerned at that point. Things changed very quickly that week, and by the weekend, my county and several around us were on lockdown.

I’ve decided to continue with my regular daily posting schedule. It seems like that’s what most of you want me to do, and frankly, I need the diversion too!

This post on transition shoes was created in response to several reader requests, but as it turns out, most of us are probably finding slippers to be the most practical transition shoe right now. Maybe I should do a post on transition slippers next week!

#9. Early Spring Try-On Haul // My try-on hauls are always popular, and three of the four from March made it into the Top Ten.

In this post, I tried on a bunch of white jeans, some denim shorts, a few spring dresses, and a few really good items from Everlane.

The Everlane pieces were by far the best finds in this haul, and they’re currently all 25% off!

#8. The Best Smoothing Undergarments // This was a collaboration with Soma, and it was very well received.

I was thrilled to discover a bra and panties that completely eliminate the lumps and bumps often created by other undergarments, including all visible panty lines. It sounds like many of you were pleased with your purchases as well.

If you missed it, or if you want to pick up a few more pieces, Soma is running a huge 40% off sale, today only!!! Use code: 95024

Daily Outfit Inspiration from a Stay At Home Mom

#7. My Daily Looks: What I Wore Lately // I post my daily looks every other week on Wednesdays, and this one covers what I wore for most of the first half of the month.

There are a lot of transition outfits in this post, as well as some cozy winter looks, as our weather has been quite fickle this spring.

#6. Coffee Corona Talk 03.15.20 // This was the first post where I talked about Coronavirus, and in which I relayed news of the lockdown in our area. It’s a bit of a departure from my usual light banter, but I think it’s important to document the heavy stuff as well as the fun stuff in these weekly Coffee Talks.

While this is primarily a fashion blog, it started out as an online journal, and I continue to use it as a place to share what’s going on in my life. I love that it has also turned into a way to connect with others going through this historical event, and I’m so grateful for this community!

Try-On Haul: Denim Shorts, Jeans, Sandals, and a Few Cute Tops

#5. Early Spring Try-On Haul // Yep, another try-on haul… I think there was only one that did not make this month’s Top Ten.

In this one, I found some really good denim shorts as well as the perfect white crop skinny jeans. FYI, the Gap jean shorts I shared in that post are currently 50% off!

5 Ways to Wear a White T-Shirt: There is no more essential wardrobe piece than a white t-shirt, so I rounded up 5 easy ways to wear a white t-shirt, with real-life examples! Click through to see them all, and tell me which is your favorite!

#4. 5 Ways to Wear a White T-Shirt // This was a followup post to my white t-shirt reviews, and I shared… you guessed it… 5 ways to wear a white t-shirt.

There’s a lot of good, classic outfit inspo in here.

2020 Spring Sandal Trends for Real Life

#3. 2020 Spring Sandal Trends // And this was a followup to my spring transition shoes post.

It may be a while before most of us are wearing sandals, but there are a lot of really good sales going on right now, so this post is worth checking out.

#2. // Early Spring Try-On Haul // This was the first try-on haul of the month, and it’s a doozie. It contains some really good spring finds from Shopbop, Nordstrom, J.Crew, Madewell, Talbots, and Banana Republic.

It’s still relevant, so if you’re looking for more spring shopping inspo, definitely check it out.

#1. Are Skinny Jeans Out of Style? // This was by far and away my most popular post of the month, mainly because it really took off on Pinterest.

Spoiler Alert: No, they are not. But this post goes on to explain how to choose skinny jeans that don’t look dated, and how to style them in a modern way.

Okay, moving on to popular products…

TOP 10 PRODUCTS IN MARCH 2020

Based on my ShopStyle analytics, these were the 10 most popular products across my blog and social channels last month.

Amazon Brand - Daily Ritual Women's Supersoft Terry Hooded Open Sweatshirt

#10. Daily Ritual Women’s Supersoft Terry Hooded Open Sweatshirt // This casual cardigan is a great outfit maker, and it’s sooo soft and comfortable. It’s sort of a light sweatshirt material, so more casual than your typical sweater cardigan — perfect for these long days at home.

I love this blush, but it also comes in a bunch of other colors, and there’s a non-hooded version too, if you prefer. Plus it’s only $30 and ships free with Prime! (Some colors/sizes are even less.)

It runs TTS; I have the small.

#9. Old Navy Luxe V-Neck Tee for Women // This was the most popular tee in my White T-Shirt Review post from last month, and right now it’s 50% off the already low price of $16.99, bringing it down to $8.49 in cart!

It’s a rayon/spandex blend, so it feels great against the skin and has a nice drape. It runs TTS, or a little big. I’m wearing the small here.

#8. Everlane The Soft Cotton V-Neck // This sweater probably needs no introduction, but if you’re new here… This is one of my all-time favorite spring sweaters, and it’s 25% off for a limited time.

Everlane pretty much doesn’t do sales unless they’re discontinuing an item, so this really is a steal for a quality, classic sweater. I love the relaxed fit, the wide v-neck, and it’s the perfect length (for me!) I believe it’s around 24″ long.

I find it to run TTS; I have a small in both the grey and navy.

#7. J.Crew Garment-dyed V-neck hoodie in original cotton terry // This is the perfect pullover sweatshirt for throwing on with jeans and sneakers, and I’m sure it would be cute with joggers too.

I love the garment-dyed cotton terry fabric and how it’s distressed along the neckline for a lived-in look, and the drawstring tips wrapped with bright threads.

It’s marked 28% off and then you get an additional 40% off that with code SPRING, bringing it down to just $34.19 in cart!

I love my white one, and for that price, I’ve got half a mind to order the grey. Size up in this, I’m wearing the medium.

also wearing: AG Farrah skinnies with P448 John sneakers

#6. Barefoot Dreams CozyChic Lite Circle Cardigan // This cult-favorite cardigan sold like hotcakes during the Nordstrom 25% off sale a few weeks ago. It’s about the softest, coziest cardigan you can imagine. When you put it on, you don’t want to ever take it off.

It’s my go-to for throwing on over my pajamas on cold mornings, and lately I’ve started wearing it with leggings and a workout tank on some of these long days at home. I do yoga every morning now, and sometimes it seems pointless to bother getting dressed, so I just throw this cardigan on top and go about my day!

#5. Talbots Animal Print Sweater // This sweater was the most popular item from my collab with Talbots a few weeks ago, even though I wrote the post with the yellow cargo jacket as the hero piece.

It really is a good sweater — flattering and comfortable and classic with a modern twist.

Right now Talbots is running a Classic Awards Event: Save 30% off plus an extra 20% off, with free shipping! That brings this sweater down to $38.92 in cart.

also wearing: Talbots black jeggings (on sale for $49.50; size down) with Talbots chainlink loafers (TTS)

#4. Gibson x The MotherchicButton-Down Tank // This cute summer top is now 40% off! I really like it, but I would advise sizing down if you are smaller chested.

I’m wearing the small here, but it’s pretty roomy, so I ordered an XS to compare. Unfortunately that one was too tight in the chest, but if you’re smaller on top, you may want to size down.

also wearing: Madewell jeans and Sam Edelman wedge sandals with Vince Camuto denim jacket

#3. Tory Burch Howell Lace-Up Sneakers // This one was a surprise, I have to say! These were part of the Nordstrom sitewide 25% off sale, but I haven’t seen them on sale again since. They were even excluded in the Tory Burch Spring Event, so they must be a popular style.

I do really love these sneakers. They’re on trend without looking try-hard, and they’re incredibly comfortable too. I kept them on all day the first time I wore them, and my feet were very happy.

I really like the navy detail with the gold logo, but they also come with orange trim and solid white. They’re TTS, or size down if in between.

#2. Madewell 10″ High-Rise Skinny Crop Jeans in Pure White: Button-Front Edition // These jeans are probably my best discovery so far this spring! I’ve tried on tons of white jeans, most retailing for twice the price of this pair, and none came anywhere close to hitting the target until I tried these.

They’re thick and soft and stretchy, but they don’t bag out, and they’re not at all see-through. The fit is on point, and even the rear pocket placement is perfect (on  me, anyway.) I realize jeans are very individual, but judging from these analytics, a lot of you are loving them too.

They also come in petite and tall sizes, and they run true to size; I have the 28. Best of all, they’re marked down to $75 today with code SWEETDEAL!

also wearing: Talbots Stripe Cutout Back Top with Talbots Chainlink Loafers

And in first place! Drum roll please . . .  🥁

#1. AG The Farrah High Waist Ankle Skinny Jeans // Wow, this is the month for jeans, isn’t it!?!

The AG Farrah is my favorite style of denim at the moment. They have that amazing AG fit and feel and a modern high rise — but not too high. They’re more of a mid-rise on me. This particular pair has a semi-dark wash and chewed hems.

They run TTS; I wear a 28 in these, and right now they’re 25% off!

In fact, this weekend Nordstrom is actually doing a 25% off denim sale across the store — including women’s, men’s, and kids’ styles.

also wearing: Tory Burch Minnie Travel Flats

And that’s a wrap! Which posts from March were your favorites, and did you score any of these Top 10 products?

I love getting feedback from you all when you purchase from my site. It’s good to know what resonates, and I always want to be sure my recommendations are spot-on. It makes me so happy to hear when you’re pleased with a purchase; and of course if you aren’t, that’s helpful to know too.

And before you go…

A Few Sale Alerts

My go-to denim jacket just went 40% off! I’ve never seen it priced this low, and it rarely goes on sale at all. It’s thick and stretchy and comfortable, and it has a really nice structure to it. It runs TTS, or size down if in between. I have the small.

Two of my favorite pairs of AG Farrah skinnies are 25% off right now. This pair (the #1 best seller in March!) has a slightly darker wash and a chewed hem. I like the detail in the hem a lot, but that does make them impossible to tailor without losing that feature. If you’re good with a 28″ inseam, they’re great jeans!

I had this pair last winter and wore them a ton before I lost weight. They have a slightly lighter wash and a plain raw hem. The nice thing about the raw hem is, you can cut it off if you want them shorter, and they’ll still have the same look. Both are TTS; I wear a 28.

In fact, all denim is 25% off at Nordstrom right now! They’re also including these Paige cargo joggers. These run big; I recommend sizing down one.

This sandwash cowl neck silk blouse from Banana is marked down to just $15!!! It also comes in ivory.

This is a nice one for teleconferencing, if you don’t find black or white too harsh for your skin tone. It also layers beautifully under a denim jacket, cardigan, or blazer. It’s TTS; I have the small.

And this popular leopard sweater from Talbots is 30% off, plus an extra 20% off with code CLASSIC. It’s TTS, or you may want to size down for a closer fit; I have the small.

Also, Everlane has extended their 25% off sale through Sunday 10am PDT! Prices are as marked. I rounded up the top sellers from my blog and social channels below, and you can see my full coverage in THIS POST.

And don’t miss the Athleta 30% off sale! I rounded up the top sellers from my blog and social channels below, and you can see my full coverage in THIS POST.

  1. Hi, Jo-Lynne!  Love you and your posts.  I’m insane home schooling on the fly and working a ton, but just FYI, the Wacoal Red Carpet strapless bra is on sale for $51 at Macy’s.com!  I ordered two.  I’m also noticing what, to me, looks like a deliberate tapering down of inventory on their site.  Crazy how things change even hourly with the Coronavirus situation.

    I’m sorry for your friend’s loss.  I can’t imagine.  14?  Ugh.

Keep safe and posting if you’re able, please.  It’s nice to have a little normalcy to tune out the news 24/7.

  2. I like the #4 post right now for our weather here in San Diego. It’s chilly and partly sunny. Rain is coming again starting Sunday and next week. I never wore my white jeans this early. But they look good on you with the whole outfit. I have every (similar) item in my closet. So I will be wearing that as soon as the rain clears out. We have to wear masks now when we go grocery shopping. But I am going to look as nice as possible going there. I am a positive an optimistic person and you are doing a great job! Keep up the spirit. I am trying to figure out how to watch The Chosen for Easter.

  3. Thank you for trying to keep things as normal as possible and increasing your posting to include Saturdays.  We all need the diversion to all the depressing news.

  4. I always look forward to your posts Jo-Lynne, but even more so these days. I appreciate you keeping us updated on news in your area and also all the fashion. I also like to read all the comments and see whats going on all over the country. You’re doing a great job!!

  5. Hi Jo-Lynne!

Thanks for your posts. I look forward to reading them every day. You have great fashion sense and I like your style. I appreciate that you add a variety of price points, especially now during these strange times.

I need positivity in my world so keep on blogging!

Have a good weekend and be safe.

    Cara🙂

  6. Thanks for continuing to post. I like that you acknowledge all that is going on and still provide a much needed distraction. LOVE your fashion sense and guidance! Looking forward to the day we can wear spring clothes to gather with friends!

  7. What a pleasure to see your post in my inbox today. A little fashion takes our minds off the pandemic, if only for  a short while. I had a cruise in early February so I bought many new pieces then,  which will take me through spring/summer. I still like to see how you style things.

One of my favourite posts was on how to wear skinnies to look current. Skinnies will always stay in my wardrobe for boot weather but for Spring I’m wearing mostly straight leg jeans.

Stay safe, stay home, stay healthy!

  8. I always enjoy your blog and hearing what the favorites were. I haven’t been doing much shopping on line, but just decided to order a few things from Abercrombie during the 50% off and free shipping. I am happy to see that the Nordstrom.ca is finally up and running and we can now enjoy free shipping and returns, and duty free( this will make a big difference to us here in Canada), and now I am excited for when the big Nordstrom sales launch. I am still hesitant about ordering jeans as I am so fussy especially on the weight of the denim. I really love the soft light weight feel. Can you give me the best brand suggestions for these? Our province has just got 29 more cases today:( When will we be back to normal? Just placed my Easter grocery order on line for pick up next week. Sounds crazy but this is the first time I have every done food on line!! It will certainly be a different Easter but we still need to remember the joy that this holiday brings to us believers… Hope you have a nice weekend. Stay safe and healthy 🙂

    1. Hey Karen, so glad Nordstrom is getting up and running in Canada! My favorites for softness and comfort are the AG. https://shopstyle.it/l/bfys5

You also may want to try Wit & Wisdom, for a lower priced brand. They’re a Nordstrom brand, and I find them thinner and stretchy (size down). https://shopstyle.it/l/bfyqV

I just placed an order for a ham for Easter. I will pick it up mid-week and save it for Sunday. I’ll try to make it special even though we’ll be alone.

  9. Thanks for the Saturday post, Jo-Lynne. I bought the J Crew hoodie sweatshirt in pink, of all colors. As a redhead, I rarely ever wear pink, but it looked like a fun color to wear at home and I have worn it a ton already. It makes me smile when I see myself in it, even though I know it’s not one of my better colors.

  10. I really enjoy seeing what the analytics showed you.  I have added the denim jacket to my wish list.  I still need to try on the one that I have to see if I still love it.  I hope you have had a good day!

  11. Do you get credit for all the purchases I make at Everlane if I enter the website through your post, even if it’s not stuff you specifically linked to?

  12. How do you keep slipper sneakers like #1 clean? I have a pair but in tan and they seem so difficult to clean

  13. I just want to encourage you to please continue your blog on fashion and yes, tell us how you all are doing as a family. We need distractions in our lives now and this doesn’t mean that we are not taking all this seriously. It can’t get any more serious, can it? Doom and gloom seems to be the order of the day – but when I look at your smile and all those cute stylish ideas, I think – hey, maybe I can wear that sometime in the near future. Keep posting…please.

    1. Penny Jo nailed it: in this season of change, it is comforting to visit your blog and read it as well as the comments. It feels like a community. It gives us some reprieve and get away from reality – because it is so very, very real! We have gone from Daylight savings to the Twilight Zone. I am so sorry for your friend’s loss. Her 14 yrs old child dying is unfathomable and tragic. My condolences.

  14. Hi Jo-Lynne! I know it’s more difficult for you now, but I hope you can continue your blog. I look forward to it daily and it makes life seem more normal if only for a little bit. I like the idea of a spring/summer slipper post!

    1. Thanks, Dottie. I plan to continue until or unless someone in my house gets sick and needs me. Having the blog to work on definitely helps me feel more normal too. 🙂

  15. I love your try-on hauls the most.

I’ve followed you for quite some time, but I’d have to say your posts about how you’re feeling about Covid-19 make you seem more like a friend than a blogger. I understand the emotions you’re feeling and the concerns you have. I’ve felt that way for weeks. I think of it as I’m safe at home and praying for the wellbeing of our medical community and a successful vaccine.
Thank you for being real on your blog!
