2023 Spring/Summer Capsule Wardrobe

Greetings, friends! I’ve been talking about this 2023 Spring/Summer Capsule Wardrobe long enough, and I’m finally ready to share!

As you can see, I’m calling this my Spring/Summer capsule. Typically you would have a capsule for each season (Spring AND Summer), but this is coming out so late in the season, I tried to make it more of a transitional capsule wardrobe. At any rate, I hope it’s helpful!

What Is A Capsule Wardrobe?

If you aren’t familiar with a capsule wardrobe, it’s basically a small collection of clothes that can be put together in different ways, and it should include everything you normally need to wear. It does not typically include special occasion pieces or undergarments, and it may or may not include jewelry and workout attire.

Usually a capsule has a specific color palette, and while it doesn’t have to be a neutral palette, that’s usually what we see. I think that’s because neutrals are easy to mix and match, and they tend to be associated with the minimalist lifestyle that appeals to people who use capsule wardrobes, but you can do whatever you want.

For this 2023 Spring/Summer Capsule, I stuck with mostly neutrals and added bits of blue.

About the 2023 Spring/Summer Capsule

I included 31 wardrobe items in this capsule, and from that I created 36 outfits, but you could certainly come up with way more than that. I had to stop somewhere!

I created a capsule tailored to my day-to-day activities, which tend to be very casual, but you can certainly tweak this for your lifestyle and/or style preferences. It’s just meant to be a guide.

I did not include swimwear or athleisure in this capsule, and you will also notice that I didn’t include jewelry in my 31 capsule items, but I did include a few basic pieces in my outfits within the capsule. I’m assuming you would add other pieces of jewelry you already have to these outfits.

36 Summer Outfits for 2023

Below are pictures of the outfits I came up with, and you can find links to all these items and more in this 2023 Spring/Summer Capsule shopping widget. You can also download this printable PDF if you don’t want to have to keep referring back to this blog post. That said, I will link this post in my menu tab, so you can find it easily.

Please note, these wardrobe pieces are just suggestions. I included other options at various price points in the shopping widget, and you may already have a lot of these items in your closet that you can use.

Okay, here you go… 31 items, and 36 spring/summer outfits for your everyday style inspiration!

  1. I love this to help with summer vacation packing on trips. As a Van Halen lover (and Bon Jovi and other 1980s bands!), love the T-shirt!! It adds a nice rock & roll edge vibe.

  2. WOW! Your capsule wardrobe looks great Jo-Lynne. I can only imagine how many hours you spent in front of your computer putting the boards together for us. So, THANK YOU! I know that I can mix and match items in my closet to create different looks, but that creative side of my brain doesn’t always function like it should. Have a great day!

  3. I never comment….but I read your posts every day and follow the FB page. But I have to tell you that I just love this. Thanks so much for all the great ideas. This fits right into my wheelhouse of style for sure!

  4. Thank you for this capsule wardrobe guide! I have already been finding myself stuck in wondering what to wear and frustrated at the thought of buying clothing items and then not knowing what to style them with. Putting outfits together is not a strength for me. I am excited about this – it’s very doable!

  5. This is great. I appreciate all your hard work. I like the Van Halen t-shirt, it’s fun. I’ve found great graphic tees at really good prices at H&M. All the best – Katie

  6. Thank you for this! It’s very helpful for me to see all the ways to mix and match with pieces I already own, but I can also easily see pieces I need to add. I’m sure this was a lot of work, it is very appreciated!

      1. Hi,

  8. Wow! This is amazing! Thank you!

Did you decide to keep the Faherty Desmond shirt in blue or white or both? I ordered the white one from your link but haven’t worn it yet. After looking at this wardrobe capsule this shirt fits right in. It is a piece that can give an effortless put together look.

  9. This is very nice. I don’t personally need help putting together casual outfits, and I often find that dressy outfits aren’t vert difficult either, especially if I’m just reaching for a dress. It’s the in-between where I struggle, like what to wear to a nice (but not super fancy) restaurant, or to a graduation party, or to a winery, or a happy hour with work colleagues. Places and events where you don’t want to wear something too casual but don’t need to be dressed to the nines either. And then it’s difficult sometimes to know what shoes to wear with those in-the-middle outfits. I also like more pizzazz in my wardrobe, and I feel like capsule wardrobes are kind of neutral, which makes sense if you need to mix-and-match.
BTW, I love Van Halen! Huge fan of 80s rock bands over here!

  10. Great capsule! I’m sure a lot of work went into this. It will be very helpful to maximize pieces I purchase and gives me lots of ideas too.

  15. I love love LOVE this!!! I cannot even imagine how much time, work, and effort went into this, but I know it was a LOT. So thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!! You never cease to amaze me! (In the best ways!) I finally ordered the Amazon clutch on Sunday as part of my Mother’s Day gift. It has yet to ship, but looking at the order, it says the color is “Tan 18” and now I’m worried it’s not the “Tan 1” that I wanted and ordered. I guess I will have to wait and see. Thanks again for this wonderful post!
