Coffee Talk 02.28.21

Greetings on this last day of February! I know I say this every month, but this month really flew for me. I think it’s because I enjoyed all of our snow, and I wrote some pretty in-depth blog posts which took a lot of time. And then at the end of this month, my blog design project has been all-consuming.

March always seems to drag, so we’ll see how that goes. I am definitely looking forward to our Florida vacation at the end of the month.

Speaking of my blog design, it seems as if my ad network made some changes and added some features right at the same time as my new blog design went live.

Those changes, in addition to the wider width of my new layout, have created some frustrating user experiences. I am so sorry about that! Timing is everything, I guess.

There was, in fact, a full-page ad that appeared at times on mobile devices, when a user loaded a new page on my website. (I had no idea!) And also there were some changes made to that footer ad.

Even though I had already declined the option to disable the ability of users to close out that ad, the new setup had that as the default. I now have the ability to go in to my dashboard and opt out of that myself, which I did.

It says it can take up to 24 hours to take effect, so if you are still having trouble closing that footer ad, that should be resolved by tomorrow. It seems to be fixed on my end, so crossing my fingers it’s working for everyone.

And my project manager at Smash Creative is telling me my comment section will get fixed early this week, so I’m hoping that happens sooner rather than later. Most of the other glitches should be fixed. I’m still waiting for a search bar at the top of the blog on desktop, but the one on mobile is working now.

I appreciate your patience, and everyone who has provided feedback has been very gracious, so thank you!

It’s been a long time since I’ve had a whole new blog design implemented, and I forgot what a headache it can be!

I also didn’t think to request all of these little details — dates and links to comments at top and bottom of my posts and on all the category and search pages, a search bar at the top, comments loading on each post without a click… and on and on. I had them before and assumed they would be part of the new design. I didn’t even look for them when I approved the test site.

When you aren’t actually using the site, you just don’t notice those things. Fortunately, there is no limit to design changes with Smash. They’re happy to make all of these adjustments, it just takes time because they’re juggling other projects at the same time, and mine is taking longer than they planned due to all of these tweaks.

Okay, so that’s enough about that! You are probably as sick of hearing about this redesign as I am about dealing with it.

I’ve had some requests to write an update to my intermittent fasting journey. I actually started that post this morning, and I realized that I feel like I’ve said about everything there is to say.

If you are one who has requested that, I’d like to know exactly what you are interested in knowing. I think I’ll write it in more of a Q&A fashion than my typical rambly way. You can comment on this post or email me at [email protected] with “IF Questions” in the subject line.

And if you’re wondering what I’m talking about or just want to re-read those posts, you can find all my posts about intermittent fasting here.

Meanwhile, 23 Days of Spring Fashion starts tomorrow! I’m teaming up once again with Cyndi Spivey for a spring style challenge, where we each style a new spring outfit every weekday during the month of March.

I’ll admit, I wasn’t quite up for it at first. It still seems so early for spring fashion, and I was dreading shooting spring looks in cold weather. Plus, I was getting overwhelmed with all of the clothes I’ve ordered, trying to make outfits and figure out a posting order that provides a good variety of styles and price points.

But now that I’ve shot the first 7 looks (yes, SEVEN!!!), I am ready to get this party started!!!

I always enjoy writing the outfit posts. They’re easier and far less time consuming than the more educational ones. Plus, I already have the imagery I need so I don’t have to spend time searching the internet or my archives for pictures or product picks for my shopping widgets. All that to say, I’m really excited about this spring style series.

We also lucked out with almost perfect weather when we were shooting on Friday. It was a bit chilly, but there was no wind, and the sun was shining, and it was nice to catch up with Alison. I hadn’t seen her in a few weeks.

By the way, if you’re local, she does family shoots as well. I highly recommend her.

Okay, that’s about it for me! We have church this morning, and we may be visiting Paul’s mom after that. Tomorrow Alison and I are shooting a couple of beauty campaigns, and I’ve got another Victoria Emerson collab coming up this month, so I’ll need to get ready for that. It will be a full day.

And before you ask about the Oui tee in my Coffee Talk image (above), it is old. I purchased it a year ago, thinking we were going to Paris last spring… we all know how that turned out! #covidcancellations

So I went scouring the internet for something similar, and I found this adorable sweatshirt at Anthro.

I think I must have it! Besides the fact that Sundry makes the softest, most comfy lightweight sweatshirts, it’s just so cute.

(Our Paris trip has been rescheduled yet again, for May 2022. Here’s hoping!)

I hope you have a relaxing and very blessed Sunday!

  5. Hello Jo-Lynne, no problems with pesky ads on my laptop today. Your new design looks awesome. I’m so glad that you have rescheduled your Paris trip for 2022. You will so love Paris! Since my husband and I believe that we probably won’t travel again until 2022 or possibly 2023, we decided to get a puppy. We lost both of our pets in 2020 which was so difficult, especially because of the pandemic. We are on a waiting list and won’t get our fur baby until the fall but it is something to look forward to. Looking forward to seeing your spring fashions, Jo-Lynne.

  6. I’m excited for your Spring collab with Cyndi! I hope you’ll both show us how to style the new jeans trends and what shoes look best with them for Spring. At least here in Central Virginia it looks like the cold, Winter weather is behind us and I’m seeing signs of Spring in my front yard.
I’m so happy you were able to reschedule your Paris trip! We have been 4 times and it’s definitely our favorite city overseas to visit!

  7. I am thrilled that you were able to reschedule and still apply the 80%. That’s fantastic.

Other than finding the previous comments to read, things are looking really good on my iPhone.

    Have a great Sunday.

  8. The intrusive ads are gone! Yippy! Much better reader experience today. Thanks for thinking of the reader over the ad income. Much appreciated!

  9. Thank you so much for having the footer ad removed! It’s so distracting and if I x out of it, it just pops back up again within a few seconds. I wonder why more bloggers don’t do this?

  10. Ads don’t seem distracting now, it’s back to how it was before the design change and I can x out of the footer ad as well. Yay! Thanks, Jo-Lynne! Look forward to the spring fashion series.

  11. Ad at bottom of page fixed on my IPad!
They took a survey(?) and asked people what they missed most about COVID and it was traveling. Looks like you’re set for next year!

  12. Can you share what collagen you are taking and how you are using it? I’ve been looking at different brands. However, I don’t drink coffee, so I don’t know how I’ll use it.
