Coffee Talk 05.22.22

Good morning! I hope you’re having a good weekend. It’s been a fun one around here. I met up with some friends for shopping on Friday night, and we went out for drinks afterwards. I don’t remember the last time I got home after 10PM. The husbands were all wondering what happened to us, haha! #dontgetoutmuch

Then yesterday we had some friends over for the first pool party of the season. Paul did pulled pork on the smoker, which was fantastic. Some of David’s friends joined us as well, and of course that means there were a few highly competitive games of cornhole before they all ended up in the pool playing basketball.

Earlier in the day, I had to drop off my younger daughter to meet some friends, so I took the opportunity to grab a little “me time” at the coffee shop that was their meeting point. I ordered a spiced latte and a chocolate biscotti and sat down for a moment of peace and quiet before I had to go home and start setting up. It was lovely. I really should just do that every once in a while on a weekday, maybe even bring my laptop and do some work, get a change of scenery.

So yeah, all in all, it’s been a really nice weekend over here, but I’ve probably overdone it a bit. I plan to relax and take it easy this afternoon.

I get asked from time about how my recovery is going. It’s been about three weeks, and I feel better every day. I’m still uncomfortable at times, but that’s to be expected, and there have been no complications so far. They can still happen, though, from what I read in the various forums I’m a part of. I’m trying to be careful and not overdo it, but that gets harder as I feel more like normal.

The one thing I’ll say is, I wasn’t aware of the long-term side effects of this type of surgery and anesthesia… the residual swelling and bloating and all of that. I still have no regrets, but I could have definitely planned to do this at a better time of year. It’s hard to hide under bulky clothes when it’s 90 degrees. But these are just minor inconveniences for the longterm benefits, and I’m grateful to be on the flip side. It’s all downhill from here… at least, I hope so!

Speaking of 90 degree weather, it’s hard to believe another school year is winding down. I mean, the college kids are already done, but it never seems like summer break really begins until there’s no one to put on the school bus in the mornings. Our summer is pretty much already spoken for, with two family vacations, and the various camps and activities the kids have planned. I know it’s going to fly.

It occurred to me that this is the last year I will have for a while with no one graduating. If all goes well, my son should graduate from college next year. Then my younger daughter will graduate from high school the following year, and my older daughter from college the year after that! It’s daunting to contemplate, but I’m not going to dwell on that right now.

That’s about all I’ve got today. I hope you all enjoy the rest of your weekend!

  1. You have had a busy but fun weekend! You were smart to be intentional and take some time for yourself. You sound like you are healing normally- swelling and tiredness are all part of the process, not fun, but part. You are so active, you will be just fine. Give yourself some grace, you’ve got this!

  2. Sounds like a fun weekend! My daughter and her family just had a pool installed, have waited two years for it to finished because of the pandemic! They will certainly enjoy it now!
As for your post, even though you said “good morning” it didn’t arrive into my inbox until 2:23pm. I didn’t think you were posting today. But it’s alway great to read your newsy updates. Rest up and enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

    1. Yeah, I wrote it this morning but didn’t get a chance to get my email out till late. 🙂 That is a long wait for a pool! I’m sure they will love having it. We sure do.

  3. Hello! It’s been a busy time for us here! My son graduated last week which was really wonderful and another chapter closed. I’ve been trying to keep up with everything but it sounds like you are recovering well from your surgery and this is great to hear! I’m still trying to weed out things from my closet and update and replace. It seems this is quite the ongoing process for me. We’ve a trip to Hawaii the end of June for 10 days so packing for this kind of trip is always challenging for me. I always bring too much!! I’m glad you and your family are well!!! So happy your recovery is going well too!! How wonderful!

  4. I was up your way for my niece graduation from University of Penn. it seems this was a much better weekend since you were able to open the pool. Glad to hear you are healing well. Swelling can persist for a while with cosmetic surgery. I remember the same in my case – it took about three months before I stabilized however everyone is different. Again I love your posts. I am not good at shopping and you have helped me so much.

  5. So glad to hear you’re feeling better and starting to get up and out again! Sounds like you’ve had a great weekend… This is our long weekend here in Canada, and my husband and I started it off with a trip over to Maine the first of the week. It’s the first time in almost three years we’ve been able to get over, I sure missed it! We got home to have the long weekend with family! It’s been gorgeous weather here! Let’s hope this officially starts our summer.

  6. Your weekend sounds fun. Try not to over due too much. So hard to do once you feel better each day but you don’t want to go backwards. But, you did good to take time Saturday and Sunday for yourself. I’m like you….the older I get, getting home at 10 pm is late. Lol.
