Top Ten in September 2021

Wow, where did September go? It’s been a whirlwind between Paul’s surgery, R’s band schedule, and helping C adjust to her freshman year of college… But it’s finally starting to feel like fall.

I can’t wait for the holidays this year, and I’m going to start rolling out my gift guides soon, but first I’m rounding up the products and posts were the most popular last month!

Top 10 Posts in September 2021

Based on Google Analytics, these were the 10 most popular blog posts that I published last month. These posts are listed in typical Top Ten order, with the most popular one last.

#10. What I Wore Lately Vol. 62 // These posts are all about real life, so they can get a little bit redundant. I’m the kind of person who is happy to wear the same few outfits over and over, and when I look at these posts, I often wonder how on earth I ended up in this industry! But if you’re looking for real life casual outfits, this post is for you.

#9. Fall Shoes Try-On Haul: Loafers, Mules & Clogs // I often neglect shoes in my try-on hauls, but I ordered a bunch lately, and I was trying to decide which ones to keep and which ones to send back, so I did a post about them!

#8. Fall Fashion Trend to Try: Polo Sweater // This is exactly the type of thing I like to wear this time of year. Simple, comfortable, but polished and put-together.

#7. Fall Color Trend to Try: Army Green // Cyndi and I teamed up to style color trends for fall, and this post was all about army green. The jacket I’m wearing here is more of a sage green, but all shades of green are trending this fall. I also have pictures in this post with other army green items — a leather backpack, for one! If you missed it, be sure to click through and check it out.

#6. A Case for the Outfit Making Jacket // Now, this jacket is more of an army green. I styled it two ways in this post, but unfortunately was low inventory by the time I got around to publishing. Right now it has been restocked in a few sizes, so check it out if you’ve been wanting it. It’s true to size, or size up if in between.

#5. Early Fall Try-On Haul // Another try-on haul. This one was a mix of early fall styles — jeans, boots, sweaters… and even a couple of dresses.

#4. Fall Try-on Haul Part 2: Denim & Pants // This try-on haul was all about fall jeans and pants. I tried to include a variety of price points.

#3. Fall Color Trend to Try: Rust // Another one of the color trends I styled with Cyndi… this rust top sold out, but it’s not hard to find this color right now.

#2. The Best Labor Day Weekend Sales // There were so many good LDW sales this year!

#1. Fall Try-On Haul Part 1: Jackets, Tops & Sweaters // And of course, first place goes to another try-on haul. This one was a bunch of tops and sweaters. Most are still available, so check it out if you missed it!

Okay, moving on to popular products…

Top 10 Products in September 2021

These were the 10 most popular products across my blog and social channels last month. They’re listed in typical Top Ten order, with the most popular one last.

#10. KUT from the Kloth Quinn Faux Suede Moto Jacket // I am so excited to tell you this jacket has been restocked in all sizes!!! It also comes in 3 other colors, and I believe they’re restocked as well. This is a nice alternative to leather moto jackets because it’s softer and more comfortable, and it’s not quite as edgy. It’s very comfortable, and I would say it’s true to size or size up if in between… or if you want to wear something heavier underneath. See more of this outfit in THIS POST.

#9. Vince Overlap Wool & Cashmere Sweater // I discovered this sweater on sale, and shared it with you all even though I didn’t buy it. I have several cashmere hoodies already, so I don’t need it, but if you’re in the market for one, grab it if you can get your size! It’s an amazing price for Vince, at 60% off. I find Vince sweaters to be consistently true to size. I always wear a small.

#8. Hailey Western Mules // Loving this style of shoe for fall. It pairs really well with the straighter leg styles that are trending.

#7. Izabel Stud Slide Sandal // My favorite summer sandals were still selling strong this month because they went 60% off! Our weather has finally turned to fall, and I’m packing these away this weekend, but I can’t wait to get them out again in the spring. I expect to get another few seasons out of them. I recommend sizing up half, if ordering.

#6. Boho Hammered Metal Earrings // These statement earrings are great for leveling up your casual outfits. See more of this outfit in THIS POST.

#5. Gap Ribbed Henley T-Shirt // This is a great little top for fall. Wear it alone or layer it under a jacket or vest. It comes in tons of colors and runs true to size. This is the copper brown, and I also have it in the cucumber green. I’m also wearing Gap straight crop jeans and taupe ruched mules in this picture.

#4. The Laundress Sweater Stone // If you have wool or cashmere sweaters, you need this sweater stone. It gently removes pills and keeps your knitwear in tip-top shape.

#3. Frame Le High Raw Hem Crop Straight Leg Jeans (also at Saks & Bloomies) // These are my favorite jeans at the moment. They seem to go with everything, and I love the fit and the wash. They’re pricey, but currently on sale for 25% off! They run true to size, or you may want to consider sizing down if in between. If in doubt, I always recommend ordering two sizes and returning the one that doesn’t work out.

If you want a lower priced alternative, check out these high rise cheeky straight jeans at Gap.

#2. Caslon Split Neck Organic Cotton Blend Thermal Knit Top // This top is a great price, and there are a few sizes left. It’s true to size, or size down if in between.

And the winner is! Drumroll please . . . 🥁

#1. Caslon Corduroy Utility Jacket // Can a girl have too many outfit-making jackets? I think not! I really like the corduroy fabric for a change, and this color is very on trend right now.

And that’s a wrap for September! I still have lots of fall fashion in the pipeline, and soon we’ll be talking about festive looks for all of those holiday gatherings we missed out on last year. I’m so excited for that! Please let me know what types of events you have coming up, and what you’re looking for in terms of outfits.

I also plan to start rolling out gift guides this week. I know, it’s only the beginning of October, but with the supply chain issues not getting any better, I figured the earlier the better! If you have any particular requests, send me an email or let me know in the comments.

  1. Great post! I’d LOVE to see a future (soon!) post on how to wear the current style of jeans with winter boots! I’ve tried everything and nothing looks good! I need to see how to wear non-skinny jeans with boots that don’t show any skin and preferably not boots with heels. So with boots like Sorel Explorer Joan (and similar) for example. Or are these boots completely out of style now?! Or will we just still be wearing skinnies in the winter?! THANK YOU!

    1. MMASC…..I hear you. I just can’t get anything to look good when I’ve tried to get my boots to go with the newer style jeans that I’ve been wearing with sandals or mules. I know I’ll be reverting back to skinnies. The newer boots have high heels and high shafts and so I feel too dressed up for just going out casual. We need something to wear to the grocery store. LOL Jo-Lynne did a good post on this, but I still struggle with it. Good luck.

    2. Styling Winter boots, for those of us who live in northern areas, would be great! Going socKless is not an option! What jeans to wear with boots would be helpful. Sorel boots for example. Thanks for asking. Have a great weekend!

  2. I like seeing how your posts rank each month! We will not be attending any holiday functions, however, we are really hoping to make a trip to IL/MO to see family that we have not seen in probably six years. Larry’s sisters are getting up there in age, so we really want to see them while they are still living. With the supply chains suffering so bad now, I am getting all of our Christmas shopping done now; will be done by the end of Oct.

    1. Ginger- The supply chain problem is getting worse. I live in CA and off the coast from Los Angeles down to Catalina Island we can see there are huge shipping barges just sitting there….for weeks on end. There’s no one at the docks to unload and a lack of truck drivers to carry it across the country. It’s insane! Another Covid pandemic problem that our government is failing at. I have already started my holiday shopping as well and hope to be done by the end of this month and I’m usually always a last minute shopper. Not this year.

  3. I’m so glad you are rolling out gift guides soon. I always start my shopping in Oct. and try to be done before black friday. I know the supply chains and shipping are going to be more difficult this year and so early is going to be best. I would like ideas for men age 30-40 and woman 30-35 yrs. old. A gadget type idea for the guys and something not clothes related for the girls. ( $60 range) 🙂 I have their clothes item actually already bought this year from the Nordstrom sale…… The Zella joggers for men and woman. Glad you posted them, so I bought off your link(6 pair). Have a great Saturday and please update us on Caroline. I been wondering how Sept. went for her. Will you see her soon or is the next time Thanksgiving? As for holiday outfit ideas. No future plans as of yet, but Thanksgiving and Christmas at my house and I need help with ideas on what to wear to still look festive but comfortable to cook in too. Maybe cute tops/sweaters to go with the black spanx pants, I have but yet to wear yet. 🙂

  4. I always enjoy seeing your top picks! I purchased the Caslon Split neck Tee and I love the fit. It just needs to cool down a little more here in South Carolina.

I want that Ochre colored poncho top, but it sold out. Insert frowny face.

Of course you are just like those of us who follow you…I only end up wearing a handful of clothes over and over, but you are presenting styles for all of us and we only chose a few each month. Keep giving us your excellent styling tips and looks.

Is there any way you can incorporate more made in the USA clothing and shoes, handbags, jewelry etc.? I know they could be more expensive, but we need to support these products more and then the price point will come down. Growing up in a small business, I know how much it means for these homegrown businesses when we purchase locally…so the USA is local for all of us who live in one of the States.

Thanks so much and enjoy your week-end.

    1. @ Deborah,
Great suggestion to look for Made in USA.
I wonder if Etsy might be one place to
      find USA-made gifts?

  5. This has nothing to do with Sept top 10, but I wanted to say I’ve been struggling like most with the straight crop jeans and boots, But I may have found a combo in Madewell stovepipes and some higher shaft sock boots. I like how it looks in the full length mirror in my closet – but I dont feel the most comfortable w/that combo… we’ll see! Words from your post were ringing in my ears when I was putting ideas together, so thank you!

The jeans rock and look perfect with wedge sandals so all good there. Thanks again for all the good advice!
