22 Spring Outfit Ideas

Greetings, friends! Today I’m recapping 22 Days of Spring Fashion — my seasonal style collab with Cyndi Spivey.

I cracked up when Cyndi said on Friday that she had just styled 22 days of clothes that she can’t wear yet. Those are my sentiments exactly. Here I am, over a week out from the end of my spring style series, and it still feels like winter. It’s crazytown!!!

Of course, it was hot until mid-October, so I probably have no right to complain. Has anyone else noticed that weather-wise, our entire calendar seems to have shifted forward about 6 weeks??? It’s been almost consistently so for the past few years. Let’s just call today March 1st and go from there.

Any-who. I’m sure I lose readers every time I gripe about the weather so I will just shut up about it. Some day I might actually get to wear these outfits. For now, I’ll just admire them from here beside my space heater wearing a turtleneck and UGGs.

22 Spring Outfit Ideas for Women Over 40 | Recapping 22 Days of Spring Fashion -- a seasonal style collab with Jo-Lynne Shane and Cyndi Spivey

Cyndi and I always like to do a recap post after one of our style challenges. I will also link this on my sidebar so it can be a resource to you over the next few months.

Of course, there will be more spring outfits to come to the blog, but I usually take a break from outfits for a week or two after one of the challenges ends to give myself a break and so I can share some other types of content. I actually just reached out to Alison to see if she’s free to shoot this week, so I hope to have something new for you soon!

Meanwhile, let’s recap.

WEEK ONE

The first week of our spring style challenge was a short one. I launched the series with a cheerful striped sweater from Old Navy and jeans from Madewell, and on Day 2, I wore a casual weekend look with a varsity tee and deconstructed white jeans.

one // two

WEEK TWO

Week 2 was probably the week I featured the most variety in my outfits. I actually managed to style a casual dress, a skirt outfit for work, a couple of spring sweaters, white jeans, my new cropped skinnies, and a great pair of wedge sandals.

three // four // five // six // seven

WEEK THREE

Week 3 brought a spring workout look, a couple of date night outfits, a casual weekend look with my new Vans, and a great little $22 twist tee.

eight // nine // ten // eleven // twelve

WEEK FOUR

I think Week 4 has my favorite outfits from the series. I love the date night look with the moto jacket, the teal knot front tee outfit is so fresh and pretty, and the blush denim jacket pairs so beautifully with grey jeans.

That tiered hem top is so good I styled it twice during this series, but my favorite outfit is the bright pink jeans with black sweater and block heel sandals. I threw it together at the last minute the morning of that shoot, and I was thrilled with how the pictures turned out.

thirteen // fourteen // fifteen // sixteen // seventeen

WEEK FIVE

I wrapped up the series with two spring dresses, a bootcut jeans outfit, a work wear look, and another cozy nod to the weekend.

eighteen // nineteen // twenty // twenty-one // twenty-two

WHEW! Even though it was a cold one, I feel like I put together some really cute looks, and I think there’s actually more variety than I realized. For a girl who is happy to wear the same pair of jeans 5 days a week, it’s always a challenge to create so many different looks in a short period of time, but it’s fun! I hope you enjoyed it as well.

LOOKING AHEAD

I’ve got a few new posts in the works for this week, but I’ll be traveling over the weekend and I may take a couple of days off. It all depends on how much I can get prepped before I leave. I really wanted to get my white jeans review up this week, but I think it will have to wait until I get back. I have some other ideas, though, and I’m sure I’ll feel more inspired after I get back from the mall today. That usually does the trick!

I’m going to Florida with a few of my girlfriends for the weekend, and I can’t wait! While it’s supposed to be a vacation, I did schedule a shoot with a local photographer, so when I get back, I’ll have some resort wear looks to share with you.

I hope you all enjoy the rest of your Monday, and be sure to visit Cyndi for her 22 Days of Spring Fashion recap!

  1. I look forward to your packing post, I too am NOT a minimalist when it comes to packing…I like to be prepared and have options! I recently returned home from a 7 day Florida vacation and wore almost everything in my suitcase with the exception of just a few tops! Packing cubes are my new best friend I had never used then before and now I won’t pack a suitcase without them! Enjoy Vero Beach!

  2. I loved how you crafted some spring looks for the cold weather. I gained a lot of inspiration from these posts to make a dreary spring brighter. Wore look #5 multiple times, got a spring Moto jacket, and picked up the old navy striped dress for Maine vacation/swim cover-up.

  3. Hey, since you have a first kid going to college this fall, can you do a post on what to pack for college freshman? I am also sending my first this college and appreciate all the help I can get.

  4. Jo-Lynne ,
A fabulous assortment of outfits, I especially like the casual weekend styles, and the sweaters. I added several of the spring sweaters to my closet, and plunged into the task of finding a few pairs of jeans that fit and complement me, and my sweaters. I learned 4 nice fitting ,versatile jeans are better than 15 pairs of “ok” jeans. In the past I was afraid to order clothes online knowing many would be returned, but your blog has helped me “get over it .” Nordstrom particularly makes it easy, you hooked them a new customer ! I purchased pricier pieces than in the past, but ultimately I think I saved by not buying random items that don’t go with anything. And about the weather , Yikes ! I enjoy wearing some of the lighter sweaters, but short sleeves or peep toes, or flats , nope ! I thought I was being wimpy and you ladies were sucking it up and strolling into the snow banks in your spring wardrobe! But your right Jo-Lynne we had a balmy fall, in October I was wearing my sandals, and that was special because my daughter had mild lovely weather for her wedding, and greenery for photos. I’ll try and be thankful for my warm boots until the temperature rises , because well, it will in good time.

  5. Whew is right!  You must be exhausted even just doing the recap.  Lol.  But your followers do appreciate it.

And I hear ya on the packing.  My husband never understands why I need such a big a suitcase even just for a weekend trip.  I explain that I need to be prepared to have a variety of options in case our plans or the weather changes and then have to have the shoes and accessories etc to go with it.  😁

    1. Yes, all that. Plus, all the toiletries and crap have to come along whether you are away for 2 nights or 10. Those take up a lot of room, but I did actually just order some travel sizes so I can have more room for shoes. 😉

  6. Great series … thanks for all the hard work that goes into this.  Hopefully we can actually start wearing some spring clothes soon😉. Enjoy your weekend your going to at least have sunny skies and warm days there.

  7. Also missed the conversation about packing opps.. believe it or not I pack a carry on only and that’s for 10 days in Florida.( hate checking luggage or fear it will be lost).. the key is my daughter is a great packer and we roll everything…I even have room to shop and bring stuff home not sure how it all gets in but it does… and I love the shopping in Florida. Happy packing:)

  8. Happy Monday Jo-Lynne!!! Yay for a trip with the girls to Florida. Sounds like just what the doctor ordered. HA! Okay, not that you asked, but I’d say if you’re going to go for it with the white booties, I’d vote for the Vince Blakely pair. 😉XO

  9. LOL at your comment sitting by the space heater in Uggs.. That is me today since it is SNOWING once again. So over the gloomy cold. But things are looking up for the end of the week w warm temps and RAIN … haha.
Oh well, once the nice weather does decide to come we will forget all about it.

  10. LOL… You can gripe about the weather all you want, most of us are right there with you. Have a wonderful trip, and thanks for all the outfit inspiration 🙂

  11. Don’t stop complaining about the weather, we are still doing it up here! LOL! This week promises lots of melting with temps in the + – Finally! Spring series was great – you really did style a lot of different looks. Thanks again for all you do and remember to have fun with the girlfriends and not work too much!

  12. I think my favourite was #14. I thought the knot front tee looked great on you. And, teaming it with white jeans & white heels made for a great date night outfit. Switch out the heels for a pair of wedges and you have a more casual look. Which makes me think it would be a good travel outfit.
I’m not a minimalist when it comes to packing, either. So overwhelm us with your packing post. 😉
I love the leopard sandals in your Wish List. Not sure about buying expensive white booties though. I think they’re a passing fad so not worth the investment. Ok! I’ll was being a mom there. Sorry!

  13. Love the recap–thank you. Question for you: I purchased the varsity tee from week two in the same navy/white (sharp departure from my normal gray and black 🙂 ). I am wondering how white your white is. The navy appears to really bleed through on my white stripes.

  14. The weather here in Center Fl is being uncooperative, its cool at night 80’s during the day with late afternoon thunderstorms. Maybe this will help with your packing, what part of Fl are you coming to?

  15. You did a great job with good variety.  Its good you two do the recap, not only for us to look back on, but I’m sure it helps you also to look back for outfit ideas. I know there are days I put something together and then forget what I’ve done down the road. Especially since neither of you can wear most of your Spring outfits yet. Have a great vacation and don’t feel bad if you have to take the time off from the blog for vacation. You need the break and should.

  16. PS  If you roll your clothes when packing, could you show how you do it on your Facebook live?  I’ve never rolled my clothes but hear you really can get more in that way.  I hate packing a suitcase. I always over pack and can’t get by with just a few shoes either.  Makes getting ready to go somewhere hard.  Don’t quit telling us about the weather.  I live clear across the country from you, so like to hear what others are having.  Today we are suppose to be high 60’s with sun but then back to cloudy, gloomy and rainy for the rest of the week.  UGH!!!!  I’m trying to talk my husband into a weekend get away somewhere.  I need out of here.

    1. Haha, I need to get out of here is right! Sorry I didn’t get to the FB live today but I did have pictures taken of my suitcase. I’ll be posting how/what I packed in a few days.

  17. I completely agree with you, the calender does seem to have shifted. We have had snow on Mothers Day for the last few years and my kids trick-or-treat without needing jackets, That’s definitely not what it was like when I was a kid.

  18. Thanks, Jo-Lynne, for a fabulous spring series and all of your hard work is appreciated. #14 was my favourite outfit…..that tee is a gorgeous colour! When I pack, I use the “roll” method but I also use tissue paper to cut down on the wrinkles. Once I roll my clothes, I place three of the items into a medium-sized baggie so that they won’t unroll. It’s amazing how much I can pack using this method.

  19.  As im looking over this recapp i do see a lot more sweaters than usual . Which I like you created these outfits for the spring we arent having.  But take heart spring will be  here by mid week in our PA and DE neck of the woods. I cant wait but im scared to believe it cuz then it will cold again nxt week. 😢

  20. I love getting your emails each day and have purchased a bunch of your recommendations. My daughter complimented several things I wore over the weekend, and I told her about you! She is 24, working as a PA and looking for a style to follow. She leads a sporty and casual lifestyle. I checked your recommendations and they were all for over forty I think. Any ideas where she can find someone to follow?

  21. I don’t pack lightly either! So happy to hear I’m not the only one!! It’s takes a carry-on just to hold my toiletries, makeup and hair tools! 😂😂 And then the clothes…..and the shoes……and the accessories……I need options!  😜😂😂

  22. What is the best way to seach your posts for a specific item? I just bought the white sweater you featured, from loft and and want to see how you styled it. Also and olive cardi.

    1. Hey Jamalyn. There is a search bar at the top right if you’re on desktop. If you’re on your phone, tap the 3 lines for the dropdown menu and you will see the search at the bottom.

I don’t think I ever styled that white sweater from Loft. I would wear it with pastel colored jeans or blue jeans mainly. Also maybe with black jeans and my black leather espadrilles. 🙂
